Hi Everyone,
A rainy day here in PA. The river near my house (the Delaware) is VERY high. The houses that are down on the river bank (about 3 blocks from me) are threatened with flooding – I am up on a high hill.
Going to make a new veggie recipe. If it turns out good, I will post on our recipe thread.
Hi Bobbi,
I see that your October goal is to have at least 40 g of fiber/day. Could you please give us an example of what foods you would eat to get 40 g of fiber? Even with 3 servings of veggies/day, I’m getting only about 20 g.

Lynn, is PayPal or eBay thwarting you unduly? Aren't computers wonderful? Bah, I say!!
Hi Donna,
I HATE trying to use E-Bay. Every time I try, I mess something up & have a problem. I know it’s because they are so concerned about security, but I use it so rarely that I am never sure what is in there. On Saturday, I got so stressed, I had to go to the gym and exercise!
BTW – where are you getting the Dorothy Parker quotes? I LOVE her short stories.
Good Morning girls! I'm off to the chiropractor again today, I still wake with migraine headaches and my neck is so stiff I can hardly turn it. Lynn...getting 40 grams of fiber is easy, you just have to remember to drink lots of water as you increase the grams of fiber or it can back-fire on you. Just ask Karen (Florida) The key to my weight loss is the high fiber, I'm never hungry and the weight just fell off. I'll post a past days meal and you can see what I've eaten for that day. Fiber One cereal has 14 grams of fiber and if you eat a bowl of that with fruit in the morning, you're well on your way. If you need to up the grams by night time, sprinkle 1/2 serving dry Fiber One on some sugar free pudding with SF Cool whip, it's delicious and will add 7 more grams.
Breakfast: Fiber One + 1 Tablespoon Flaxseed...15 grams fiber FF Yogurt Banana...2 grams vitamins...1 gram fiber Lunch: Butternut Squash soup...5 grams fiber Sugar Free coconut pudding with SF Cool whip Supper: Chicken chow mein veggies stir-fried Carrot...1 gram fiber Cabbage...5 grams fiber mushrooms...2 grams fiber bean sprouts...1 gram fiber Pea pods...1 gram fiber water chestnuts...2 grams fiber Evening snack: Popcorn...13 grams fiber I had 48 grams of fiber on this day, 1,125 calories. I always have some kind of vegetable soup for lunches. I usually make a big batch to have on hand, it's a pain in the butt to weigh and put ingredients into Fitday but worth it. I don't like taking the time to make lunches and when it's all ready, it's a no brainer. If you stay with vegetable soups for lunch, you'll get your 3 veggies in for the October challenge, get your fiber up and not fret about what to eat at noon. Also buy stock in Fiber One cereal Have a good Monday everyone, I need to go shower.
G’morning, Girlies! Another weekend has bitten the dust…why is it that they fly by so quickly, darn it???? We spent Saturday at Old Sturbridge Village with my dd, sil, grandbabies and dd’s best friend and her dh & kiddos. MY dh gets free visitor passes for every 50 hours that he volunteers, plus he & I are members and get in free anyway (plus our grandbabies are free as well) so a visit that would typically cost $165 for non-members to spend the day ended up costing us $15.75 (three kids at $5.25 apiece; we get a 25% discount for paid guests, and the free passes covered the adults, plus my sil, who is a teacher, gets in free with his teacher’s ID.) ANYWAY, we trudged all over the village for HOURS and HOURS – played a lot of old timey games such as rolling hoops, walking on stilts, etc (no, I can’t walk on stilts!), and saw lots of interesting demonstrations. The kiddos got to help with the apple harvest. Home at @ 7:30 PM, exhausted (I am definitely not as young as I used to be!) with only enough energy left to eat some grapes and a grilled cheese sandwich (lite cheese, high fiber, multi-grain bread) and wash my face, brush my teeth, and collapse into bed. The bath had to wait until Sunday morning. But what a GREAT bath! Do any of you remember “Calgon – take me away”…? It’s bath oil beads, and while my kids were growing up, I used it all the time. I somehow got away from using it – haven’t seen it for awhile on the store shelves – probably haven’t been quite as stressed out, and not so much in need of being “taken away” as I was when those kiddos of mine were still at home causing me to regularly tear my hair out. Plus, I’ve been using a lot of Bath & Body Works products over the past several years. But my son must’ve remembered my days of being “taken away” by Calgon, because he and his fiancée surprised me with some a couple of weeks ago, and after I used that up, I actually found it for myself at Walmart. None at the supermarkets around here. Fabulous. Just fabulous. (Probably because it brings back such good memories for me – but whether it’s that, or just simply that it works so well doesn’t matter so much, right? It does the trick, and that’s what counts.) Anyhoo, I did a birthday supper for my dd on Sunday, and by the time everybody left, I needed another Calgon session. I was almost glad to see the weekend be over with because it was just super busy and super-exhausting. Next weekend, we have nothing really written in stone on the agenda. I can’t wait. Bobbi, you have really renewed my enthusiasm for going the high fiber, low cal route. You’re absolutely right – it worked for me before and then I got lazy. I’m going to start up again – start keeping close track of the fiber, and watching my calorie intake as well. I thought I was ready to coast some more, but I’ve been coasting all summer, and I think I’d better get serious again about dropping ten more pounds. Guess I’ll head back to fitday and start counting again. Oh, I hope the chiropractor can help you with those headaches and the neck pain! Girl, you need to rest a bit more!
Glad you’re above the flood line, Lynn….we are, too, but I have to drive through a LOT of flooding, sometimes, getting to work. Ugh. 82 more weeks!
Did you get out leaf-peeping, PT? That’s what they call it hereabouts. We haven’t quite hit the peak colors here in the northeast yet, but we will within a couple of week’s time, and then, on some chilly early November morning, we’ll wake up to completely bare trees. DH and I are thinking to take our hike next weekend, and it’ll be a pretty walk, even if not at peak. I plan to take some pictures.
Oh, Mary! My 33-yr-old is terrific, too. Maybe it was that birth year? I have one younger, though – my son is 29. He was my swan song, and not a moment too soon, either. Rosey, that actually sounds to me like the ideal way to spend a day – the smell of soup simmering on the stove, and warm and cozy inside while the weather is miserable outside, and a GOOD book! Oh, yeah!
Give Nancy my well-wishes, Karen3!!! Having dents fixed seems like it might be a painful process to me…..poor thing!
AND enough out of me….hellos to Freda, Gayle, Karen31, Sherrill, and our dear Isabella, wherever she may be. Z
Busy weekend. It rained all day Saturday and it was DGS's football game so we ended up setting on the bleachers, in the rain and wind, for what seemed like hours, but was just a couple. I was totally chilled to the bone by the time I got home. Saturday was a little better, no rain at least. DGD had football that day. She is so hilarious on the field. She will be practicing her dance steps and then when the play is called she is all busisness! the boys underestimate her, much to their dismay i'm sure. I've already done the laundery and hung the sheets on the line, cleaned the floors and bathrooms. I woke up with energy! What's with that? I'm sure it will be gone by the end of the day, when the kids come over.
Bobbi, I'm another that doesn't have a problem getting enough fiber. And I don't think too much about it. I think if you make it a habbit and have it in the house it's pretty easy. and I get LOTS of fruit and vegetables. Just because I like them. Hope the chiropractor helps the headache.
Z, Calgon take me away? I have some in the bathroom right now. Don't get a change to use it too often, but occasionally......
Lynn, It takes a little planning at first, to get in all the fruit and vegetables that you need, and the fiber, but after a little planning it becomes really easy. Sounds like you are getting there. I love beans and that helps a lot too. I throw them in salads, taco's, bean soup. I know the are a carb for you, but they are a good carb. Looking forward to the new vegetable recipe. Hope it turns out well.
Good Morning, All.....
No, PT/Zoe, I haven't been leaf peeping yet! The traffic is terrible (terrible, I say!) on weekends, so I'll go during the week, if I can manage the old-lady logistics. It's a lot like taking wee children, it seems! Anyway....
Everything is good here... and I was interested in the fiber talk. I regularly have an apple, an orange (or grapefruit), my raw salad vegetables, and some cooked vegetables every day. I think my fiber intake is decent, and there's certainly NO problem with constipation! I'm a firm believer that the fruits should be eaten alone and separate from any other foods, for them to "work" properly. I feel great! I think I'm doing something right!
Gotta run! Glad you're all living above the water lines (what a mess!), and I wish some of that moisture would come here! Everyone, be safe!
Good Morning! Sorry I haven't been around for awhile. Things have really been a mess here! My son and his GF(now ex) moved into their own place on the Oct. 1. And by 4:00 pm that afternoon she had called the police and had him locked up! We had tried to tell him for two months that she was trouble but he was "IN LOVE" and just couldn't see that. They went up that morning to wait for new furniture to be delivered at about noon. He brought her and the baby back here and asked her to take the clothes from the washer and put them in the dryer and to start packing up their stuff to move up there. She has done absolutely nothing but lay in bed until she had to get ready for work since she has been here. He had to go and paint another wall and also fix a toilet that was leaking. She promptly fixed her some lunch, took her daughter(21 months)downstairs and went to sleep! When he came back he asked her why nothing had got done and she started yelling at him and then there was yelling back and forth. My son came up and just took off walking to get away from her and the confrontation. About 15 minutes later she came up and asked if we knew where he went. We said no and we weren't getting in the middle. She said if he called to tell him that she had taken her daughter and went driving around. A few minutes later he called and said not to let her move anything out until he was here and we told him that she was driving around. He said well, she found me. And he ended up walking away from her 4 different times and she drove around until she found him just to keep this fight going. She then called the police and said that she just wanted him to leave. As we was walking down the street to come here they picked him up. And I guess now in a domestic dispute if the police are called somebody is going to jail! He spent 24 hours there but it took us $1,000 cash bond to get him out. That should be returned, minus any charges they take out of it, when he goes to court. So actually even though this all happened since Oct. 1, this has been the way life has been here for about the last 2 months. I have told him now that he will not ever move another woman in here at all, don't care if he is married or not. He will always have a place to stay but no more women will be moved in.
So now you know what has been going on. Just taking some time while my husband and son went back to the jail to get his money released back to him. They couldn't do it on Saturday. Thanks for letting me vent.
Now I need to get cleaned up. My older brother had hernia surgery this morning and I want to take some food over to him this afternoon. Sure hope everyone is doing good. I'll get back in touch soon.
Beautiful sunny day here. Weather is starting to be a little cooler ~ loving that
So many things I want/need to do. Don't have to worry about being bored here.
Hanging in there with the WW. All except one week, I have lost a little. A slow road, but for the first time in a while, I feel hope that I can get ahead of this thing. Had been avoiding the walking ~ don't know why. But started back with it last week. Hopefully it will speed things along a little bit.
Grandson Corbin will be 13 on Friday ~ oh my ~ where has the time gone?
Ok, I'd better quit fooling around on here and get that walking out of the way. The later it gets in the day and I put it off, the less likely I am to do it.
Here is a cute pic ~ I have fun with images ~ changing my screen, making calendars.
Okay. I truly shouldn't be checking in today due to the foul mood that I'm in, but I feel a need to, so I hope nobody minds. The drive into work today was inordinately long because of the rain - light in some places, torrential and flash flooding in others along my route. Gray, gray, gray, and everything moving in waterlogged slow-motion. Several accidents. A woman who slammed her BMW into the back of a big garbage truck. A tractor-trailer off the road and half into the woods a little farther along. A fender-bender at the commuter rail station near my job. Cold, and don't you know I haven't swapped out summer for fall/winter clothes yet, so I'm rather limited as to what to wear on these icky days. I mentioned that our offices were awfully cold at lunch yesterday (the soup I brought from my freezer at home hadn't thawed out after sitting on the shelf in my office all morning!) and my co-workers all chimed in a big chorus of "We'd rather be chilly and wear sweaters than be too warm!" Well, bully for them. I'd like for my soup to at least thaw a LITTLE bit over the course of the morning - seems like it shouldn't be too much to ask to not have a REFRIGERATED office, after all. But, majority rules, naturally, and I suppose if I were to persist in my complaints it would be said that I'm getting old and peevish. Well, why not say it? I AM old and peevish. My eating has also not been as good as I'd like. My hair is disgusting. DH is working my last nerve. I can't think of anything I'd rather do than curl up in a big ball under the bedcovers and sleep for the next 24 or more hours.
I must nurture some small hope that my mood will improve sometime soon. This Seasonal Affective Disorder is a killer. One needs some sunshine, after all: without it, my whole life feels like it's lived in shades of gray, and I wonder if it's even worth bothering. Maybe I need to visit a tanning salon? Get a home tanning bed? Get a grow-light for the plants and sit under it myself?
Plus, I really LOVE eggs - any kind of eggs: omelets, quiches, scrambled, over easy, fried, egg salad (I especially love egg salad!) potato salad with egg, etc., etc., and now I am allergic to them!!!!!!!!!!
Betcha DH was glad to see me drive off to work this morning, eh? Hope his day isn't too demanding. I think he may have to go to pick up a prescription, poor fella. After all that effort, he'll probably need to come home and have a nap. He'll be up in time, though, to ask me what we're having for supper when I walk through the door at 6:00. Okay that's not fair. He asked me that this morning.
Okay. Got most of the venom out. Hopefully I won't have to snarl at any of my co-workers for the remainder of the day. SO sorry to have unloaded here - apologies. Really. I am also feeling bloated and tubby. I have some pink grapefruit sections for my breakfast, but don't even feel like eating them. Maybe that's a GOOD sign?
Okay, have a good day, Golden Girlies, and please forgive this whining. Isabella. Z
Good Morning! DH got a part time job at Cabela's (sporting goods store). After two weeks of training he'll be on the floor today. So........I have the whole day to myself, what Bliss! Freda...Yup, keeping wholesome foods in the house is key. I don't buy junk food and DH doesn't care for them. I do keep pretzels stocked for him and we both eat popcorn at least 3 times a week for a evening T.V. snack. We have a stainless steel whirly stovetop popper that makes the best popcorn. He uses 1 teaspoon of peanut oil and the popcorn has a peanutty flavor, really delicious. I'm smacking my lips just thinking of it. Good fiber too.

Glynn...good job on WW, hope your DH is helping you. I think about your past problems with his support and wondered how it's going this time around. Donna...say what? I've never heard that before, tell me more!

Karen31, oh my.......Lots of excitement/dread at your house! I'm very proud of you for putting your foot down to NO MORE GF/SPOUSE at my house. You and Tim should be enjoying your retirement, not worrying about son/GF. Now if you can just convince him to never go back to her but if he's 'IN LOVE', you probably won't see the end of her. You can vent to us girls anytime Karen. Zoe...I thought of you yesterday after reading what Crabby Maxine said, "Wanna know a good way to relieve pressure at work? Let the air out of the boss's tires." Yeah, I think everyone lets their guard down during the summer months and it's time we all got serious again.

Lynn...I see you're not having a problem getting your 3 veggies in, V-8 is a good choice if you don't have the time to actually chew something. I still haven't dug out all our carrot, will this week. But yesterday I found a recipe for Carrot soup and made it. I can't imagine how the recipe could go wrong, no weird ingredient. It had a very bad after taste, DH didn't even like it. I see you had some carrot soup, what's your recipe? I'm going to eat my carrot soups for lunches but will probably plug my nose so I don't get the ucky after taste. Unfortunately I wasn't brought up to waste food so I'll eat it. The recipe came from allrecipes.com, called Carrot Zucchini Soup, I'm going to give it a bad review. Have a good one, hi to all I missed.
Morning all....The Nancy is in the shop getting her skirt fixed. Can't stand being carless. Even if i don't go anywhere just knowing I can is enough.
I made chilli Sunday and last night made taco salad using the leftover chilli. It was so good DH asked for it again tonight. I was gonna freeze for emergency meal. Getting my beans in daily now. Between the white bean soup, chilli and almost daily tossed salad with chickpeas added.
Ooops gotta go to Walmart be back later to finish this....Zoe hang in there ole gal....hugs karen3
As I write this, the HVAC folks are here installing a new water heater - what a miserable way to spend money! Days like this I wish I were back living in an apartment where the landlord does this stuff.
Hi Zoe, I wish you could retire NOW! Is there any way you can talk them into letting you work from home?
Hi Karen, I am so sorry you are going through all the drama with your son. Good for you – NO women rule sounds VERY reasonable to me.
Hi Bobbi,
I picked up some Fiber One cereal yesterday. I will have it with skim milk & protein powder & strawberries for lunches. I cannot give up my Nugo bars for breakfast.
The soup with the mushrooms & carrots was a Tabatchnik soup. It’s a frozen soup brand that uses healthy ingredients.
Hi Freda,
Did you get onto Shelfari? Someone named “Freda” contacted me on there – was it you?
Hi Donna,
Seems to me like the veggies are not enough to get to 40g of fiber. Looks like I will need the Fiber One cereal to get there.
Hi Gayle,
Happy Birthday to GS. Enjoy!
Last night I made VERY good sauce with eggplant, mushrooms, pepper, onion, and crushed tomatoes. I planned to put it over polenta, but I think the polenta was buggy (had little black specks). Luckily, I had ww pasta. I will post the recipe in our recipe thread.
Good Morning, All....
Oh, KarenMO, what a mess! I'm a bail bonding agent, as you know, and a good number of my clients are "domestic violence" clients... with the laws these days, you don't DARE argue with your spouse. Go to the basement, turn on the dryer, and whisper your bad feelings. It's all so stupid, and she will never go away (especially if he "just luvs" her!) until she finds another schmuck.
Bobbi: What is the correct way of eating fruits?
It means not eating fruits after your meals! Fruits should be eaten in an empty stomach, for it plays a major role to detoxify your system, supply you with a great deal of energy for weight loss and other activities. Let's say you eat two slices of bread and then a slice of fruit. The slice of fruit is ready to go straight through the stomach into the intestines, but is prevented from doing so. In the meantime the whole meal rots, ferments and turns to acid. The minute the fruit comes into contact with the food in the stomach and digestive juices, the entire mass of food begins to rot.
So eat your fruits in an empty stomach or before your meals! You have heard of people complaining - every time I eat watermelon I burp; when I eat durians my stomach bloats up, when I eat bananas I feel like running to the toilet, etc. - actually all this will not arise if you eat the fruit in an empty stomach. The fruit mixes with the other food and produces gas and hence you bloat! Graying hair, balding, nervousness, outbursts, dark circles under the eyes - all these will not happen if you take fruits in an empty stomach. There is no such thing as some fruits like orange and lemon are acidic because all fruits become alkaline in our body, according to Dr. Herbert Sehlton.
This works great for me!
PT/Zoe, I hope you're feeling so much better! I know it's insensitive, but I did have to emit a few teeny little chuckles! You're a very funny lady!
Nothing much going on.... status quo! And that's a good thing! Everyone, have a lovely day and be safe!!
