Oh Lawdie...ONE thing's for sure! I'm nowhere even remotely close to being as young as I used to be! My daughter's party - after running around for it all day, having the party, and then staying with our twinnies and their sister while all the young 'uns went to the casino ( about a 45 minute drive into Connecticut) and getting home finally at 4:00 AM, and I needed the better part of today to recover! Slept 'til 10, then did my weekly grocery shopping, and then went to the park with DD and her DH and DGD and the twinnies, out for a light supper, and now, finally home and about to take myself off to bed. I have ONE more day off before having to go back to work, and I know from experience how quickly that will fly by. We had a mostly wet week, but the weather turned on Thursday, and it's been beautiful ever since - sunny, with almost no humidity, and temps in the mid-seventies. Heavenly! Tomorrow it's supposed to be back up to 90-something, and humid again. No fun, that, but we'll probably head for the lake for at least a couple of hours. I have attached a picture of me with my daughters last night - and one of the birthday girl. I swear 40 is the new 30....or something. I don't know - my girls all still seem to look so young to me - I can hardly believe how old they're getting. Seems to me that they're hardly out of their teens. Ah, well. Oh, changed my avatar pic, too....thought I'd get a jump start on September, and I like how PT changes hers every month.
Ooooh, Mary! I hope you haven't lost too many of your feathered friends! I envy you your garden, though. Especially your tomatoes. Everybody knows that I will even stoop to STEALING to get myself a nice, fresh-picked tomato! I guess I'd better start growing some, eh?
Karen3, May I come for cheesecake & coffee, too? I promise to behave and not to try to get more than my share! I'm glad you're feeling better, too!
Rosey, all that rain would have me climbing the walls. I'm glad to hear that you're more resilient than I am when it comes to the weather. (I guess most people are, come to think of it!)
PT, I will never be entirely ready for re-entry, but I'm resigned to hanging in there for a while longer. I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.....remember that child's book, "The Little Engine that Could" (I think that was the name of it?)...well, I just think of myself as that engine...huffing and puffing my way to the finish line. (And speaking of children's books...any new writing that I should know about? Hmmm?)
Toonses, I hope you're having a lovely day with the family!
Bobbi, I hope your grandson's going away party doesn't wipe you out like my daughter's birthday did me! Omigawd, that joke was hilarious. Made me giggle out loud. It sounds like something my sister would do. She's goofy like that.
Freda, SO good hearing from you! And every one here values your friendship as well, you know! I've been wondering what you were up to. Glad to hear all is well. Oh, the fresh sweet corn and tomatoes! To DIE for! I can make a meal just with the corn and tomatoes, but usually have to do some kind of meat or fish or something for DH.
Lynn, you're right back on track, lady! Way to go! (Wish I had half your determination!)
I'm feeling very sad about Isabella. I do hope that we hear back from her sometime.
Hi Gayle and Karen31! (I know I'm probably missing somebody and if so, I apologize in advance...pretty tired here, and headed right to bed momentarily.)
Have a nice rest of the weekend,

Z

Good Morning, All....
Is this site goofed up again? I had to search to find Golden Girls... and my subscribed threads aren't showing up! Grrrrr......

PT/Zoe, I cannot BELIEVE that young woman is 40! She looks so much younger (yes, we apparently ARE getting older!!). She's beautiful (like mama, like daughter, yes? Yes!) You look fabulous! I like the new avatar, and the picture of you and your chickies is lovely. Are these all your kids? I thought you had four daughters, for some reason....

Nothing to report. Hanging in there... status quo... blah, blah, blah, and more blah... Everyone, hello! Everyone, be safe!

Hello GGs!

I started a new challenge for September, based on a 4-point system, and invite you to join. One good thing about this kind of challenge is that you can set your own goals. Anyway, it's up in the Sticky area, so check it out, and jump in if you'd like.

GRRRRRRRR.....yes, this site is messed up again. It takes forever to load, hopefully they'll get it fixed.
Jane..........THANK YOU, I needed something to get me back on track. I've been goofing off all summer and Sept 1st if perfect timing before I get set in my rut.
DH picked the last of the apples on my early tree and today I'm cooking them up with cinnamon and raisins, then will freeze. It's going to be a pain in the butt but I'll have to calulate and weigh all apples and raisins to get the calorie value before packaging and freezing. Have a great Monday morning and check out Jane's new challenge.

Good Morning, All....
Nothing much to report. I know PT/Zoe is back to work today, so we should all be very, very gentle with her today! Still nothing from Isabella? I just pray that she and her family are all okay.

I cannot believe that September will be here in two days! This year has flown (yea, verily!)! I'm glad, of course, that summer went quickly, and I am glad that Fall will soon be here (so pretty!)... but life is moving so quickly!

Rosey, Freda, both Karens, Lynn, Mary Bobbi, everyone..... hope all are well... be safe! Thanks, Jane, for the new challenge. Y'all have a good time! I'll be there... in spirit!!

Hi Everyone,

My sister and I had a GREAT weekend. Historical houses, restaurants, the Jersey shore, and movies (the Switch - REALLY cute).

I am finishing the first week of a 3-week course. So far, so good.

I saw my diabetes doctor today. I don't have to go back for a year. He was quite happy with my weight and my blood sugar numbers. Just have a low vitamin D count - even though I take it every day.

I joined Jane's challenge. Hopefully, I will stick this one out.

Good Afternoon Lovely Ladies,

The weather has changed, and not for the best. It's WAY too warm for me again. I loved those cooler days that we had last week.

Z, Looking lovely, dahling. And how could your DD possibly be 40, when you couldn't be much over that yourself? Where does the time go? My son is 44 and I still feel that I'm not much older than that. Unless I try to do something silly, like try to keep up with them. Then I feel every day of my many years. Your girls are beautiful. take after their DM?

Donna, agree, this year has flown by sl quickly. I just didn't enjoy it like I usually do. Just too hot to get out much.

Rosie, I'm sure the Dr. will help you make the right decision about which surgery to have. And you're right, they both have benefits and problems. Having sisters that have done so well with each should help. What do they say?

Bobbi, Having never lived on a farm (since i've had my own house) I still want the experience. I love to can. May not like it half as much if I had to do as much of it as you do.

Lynn, Glad to hear that you got a good report at the Dr.'s office. Shows you're doing all the right things.

Toonsie, Aren't grands wonderful? Hope you're enjoying your time with yours.

karen, Happy to hear that you are doing better. Being sick (I was going to say something i'm not sure is allowed on GG). Anyway, feel better.

At the hospital we always give diabetic patients a snack at HS. It's usually a couple of peanutbutter and graham crackers and skin milk, or 1/2 sandwitch and skin milk. We usually deal with the problem of patients being too low.

Freda

Hi everyone - just a quick note before going to bed. It's been a busy day. started out the day at Joe's PT. They are very impressed with his strengthening and he has graduated to a weight machine....forget what its called, but where you sit and push it out with your feet...he can only push 60 lbs right now because of his bad leg ...much less than he did before the accident...but it's a start! I am very proud of him! After PT we went to Taco Bell...I got a taco salad and ate 2/3 of it, but then shared an empanada with dh...not good for my diet! Going to have to be more careful if we eat in fast food places!

Then we did our grocery game shopping at 3 different stores. He usually doesn't do this with me but he wanted to stay out so he did today and he did very well. At the last store, he got a snack and waited in the cafe. That was easier for me too as I was also getting tired and without him I can run around faster.

After we got home, I rested a bit then watered the plants...garden and flowers. No birds or squirrels to be seen today. Not sure what's going on. Maybe it's the weather as it has been a lot cooler last few days. And maybe all the birds have flown south...I don't know. Just seems so strange.

Z - your dds are lovely! You could grow tomatoes upside down...we have one of those plants and it is the best growing one! We now have two orange tomatoes...not quite ready for picking but close.

Rosey - I feel for me trying to take the decision about your surgery. Read and learn all you can to help you make your decision. I had a hard enough time with helping my dh decide about his eye surgery he's having on Sept 9.

Well, it's getting late and I need to get to bed...

Good Morning Everyone

Today I started my marathon training. First step is to walk 20 min as fast as I can. I am not actually joining a group (I don't want to have to raise the funds), but my DD is going to put me through my paces.

Have a good day everyone,

Lynn

Marathon, eh, Lynn? Wowie zowie. Good for you, chica. (The only marathon I’ll be entering is maybe an all-night movie marathon – and my ability to stay up for that is highly unlikely!)
Mary, I’ve seen those hanging upside-down tomato plants and actually thought how ideal they’d be for me. Never got around to buying any, tho. I’ll have to put it on my to-do list for next summer. I’m glad your DH is doing so well. Being incapacitated is hard enough – caring for someone who is can be very draining. You’re certainly a wonderful partner to him!
Thanks, Freda, and yes, it really IS difficult to adjust to this business of getting older. It’s not unpleasant, exactly…just different. It was pretty amazing at that party to see some cousins of my children’s whom I haven’t seen for 20 years or more, and to have them all be about the age now that I used to be when they were hanging around with my kids and in and out of my house. Now they have kids nearly grown of their own. A little Twilight Zone-ish, eh?
Rosey, I’m sure that Dr. Turd and his minions will help you make the choice that will work best for your condition and situation. In the meantime, I’m sending you my very best wishes and thoughts as you set out on this amazing undertaking. And speaking of amazing undertakings…Christmas gifts already? <looking around> Is it Christmas eve already???? (J/K…I don’t wait that long, but definitely won’t get started anytime soon, either.)
PT, I have three daughters and one son – four children altogether. And yes, I am back at work, more’s the pity. Yesterday was excruciatingly long, a little on the frustrating side (although I still had enough vacation-induced mellowness not to get too incensed at the craziness around here) and I comfort myself with the thoughts of another five days off in a row Sept. 18 – 22 when my sis will be up for a visit and we’ll visit our old haunts down in Little Compton & Newport, RI. We are such ocean-addicts; she’s still shaking her head over how she managed to let herself be talked into retiring up in the mountains of NC.
Bobbi, it’s weird, because it takes a while to load the site when I’m at home, but here at the office there’s no lag at all. How can that be? Oh, I can’t wait to get to the apple orchard and get myself a few bushels of apples. We’ll have apple sauce, apple crisp, pies and turnovers coming out of our ears. (Well, I won’t be eating the pies and turnovers, and my version of apple crisp is the Fiber One substitute, but yummy, nonetheless.
Hope you’re feeling a bit better, Karen3…are you being affected by these recent hurricanes that I keep hearing about on the weather forecast? We’re supposed to be seeing some high winds and such by weekend (Oh, joy!)
Hiya, Karen31 and Gayle…and Toonses…and our Isabella, wherever you may be!

We're in for some much needed rain and it's here. Lots of lightning so I need to shut down my cp, unplug everything from the wall.

Good Morning, All....
I've been watching Earl's progress, and it seems that you might get a bit wet, PT/Zoe! We whine about our weather, but it's really quite wonderful, especially compared to the rest of the country!! Knock on wood... And my brother and his wife have one of those hanging upside-down tomato planters (they're gadget K and Q!!) and have had great success with it. I wonder if the icky tomato worms would crawl up there??? Speaking of which, but not at all... how's TurtleBoy?

Mary, what part of the country do you live? Are you in line for some of these storms, too?

Nothing to report! Freda, KarenMO/FLO, Rosey, Bobbi, everyone... hello! Be safe.

Here's something to brighten your day: http://wimp.com/dolphinbubbles
And something else to brighten your day: http://www.youtube.com/watch_popup?v=-YFRUSTiFUs#t=65

ENJOY!

Hello everyone,

Sounds like everyone has been busy. I had a great weekend with two of my granddaughters. The five-year old spent the weekend with us and kept telling me how much she loves spending time with us and did not want to go home on Sunday. We don't spoil the grandkids, but we do spend quality time with them. I try and teach them something everytime we are together. My granddaughter was shocked when she saw me working out. She has noticed that I am losing weight and wanted to know why. I told her it was because of my grandkids and that I want to be healthy for them. She got a kick out of that.

We are now gearing up for a nice long visit with our grandson, Benicio (3 years old). He is coming on Sunday and will stay until September 12th. He loves trains so we have a lot of rides planned. We are also going to take him to a local apply orchard so that he can pick apples. Apples are one of his favorite fruits. He is a vegetarian so I have to really plan his meals carefully. He is also bilingual and loves to teach me new words. Last time we saw him he taught me the spanish word for tracks (as in train tracks). When I repeated it correctly, he said, "That's right. Good job Grandma." What a kick. It will be so nice to take a week off of work. I have been swamped here and really need a break from this rat race.

I am also training for a century bicycle ride (100 miles) that I am going to participate in next year. My younger brother is a tri-athlete and wants me to join him on this ride. I have been riding 30 miles per week, with longer rides on the weekends. I need to start boosting this up to 50 miles per week (ugh). My brother is such a task master. So next week while my grandson takes a nap, I will hit the road on the bike. Grandpa will watch Benicio while I take a ride.

I hope you all have a wonderful week. The weather here has been great. We are expecting a little more heat today through Thursday, but we are expecting a cool down by this weekend. Our veggie garden is starting to slow down. We are going to clean up one of the raised beds this coming weekend to get ready for our fall/winter crop. I usually only plant veggies in the summer, but we are going to try and garden year round. We will see...

Talk to you later.
