Good morning girls, it has been a busy week around here and I am finally catching up on some of my correspondence. Some weeks have more paper work than others it seems.
Well if you have checked in on the accountability thread you will find I am having a real up and down month. Think I have figured out the problem, now I just have to work on fixing it. Yesterday I went to see the Dr to get blood work done to see how the new cholersterol meds are working.Be interesting to see if it has come down lots. Then went to the hospital and got my MAM done.Glad that is over for another year!!!!
ISABELLA: That soup sounds soooo good. I love soup
especially when it starts getting cooler.Kind of like a warm hug.We have been having summer again this week.Temps in the upper 80's again. Now next week it is supposed to cool off some.
SHERI: Have a good time in Oregon. Hopefully your
beavers will move on and find someplace else to dam up.Good luck on your walking during your lunch hour, sounds like a great idea.
MEOWEE: Glad to have you back but sorry you now have a cold. Hope you are feeling better real soon.
We are going to cut another load of firewood tomorrow so guess that will be my workout for the weekend. I am always so tired on Sunday afterwards that I can hardly get out of bed.Couldn't have anything to do with my age could it?? Hope all of you have a great weekend, talk to you next week.

Well, hello gals. Just a quick run through as it's getting late. Summer came again today with a temperature of about 24 C. I went to town all dressed up in my new pants and a little jacket over a t-shirt and almost melted especially when I came out of the stores. It must be the pants because the last time I wore them the temperature was even higher than today. I think I'll save these and wear them in the winter to see if they can affect the winter temps.

I got in a short jog today before I went shopping and then I walked through a few stores. I went into Walmart and it was like a jungle in there. They are having an anniversary sale and moving the store around at the same time. It was chaos and I couldn't figure out where I was half the time because everything is moved from one end to the other and they aren't finished with it yet. What a run on toilet paper and Tide there was. I was looking for a large garbage pail for outside the house and even the sales person didn't know where to look. We couldn't find them so I went to check out the things I did have and when I was standing in line I heard someone say, "I found the garbage pail but I can't find the lady who was looking for it." I turned around and there was the sales person with the pail in her hand so I did get my garbage pail after all.

Must close and try and get to bed before tomorrow. Have a good weekend gals and I hope Meowee that you are feeling much better by tomorrow.

I weighed in this morning and haven't lost an ounce!!! Grrrr.....oh, well....sigh....it happens. But I wanted to change my ticker so badly.

Donna I've seen your Accountability post and know what you're talking about. I'm having a slow month myself. Everything seems to have stalled. I have a theory about it though. I've lost 40 pounds before several times and I never get past the 150s so I have ancient fat stored below the layer I just lost and it's harder to break down and get rid of. My body just thinks that 150 is where I'm supposed to be because all the fat that's left has been there so long it wants to keep it for sentimental reasons. Ha, ha. Maybe you have sentimental fat stores, too.

Not a good month for me either -- got into the chocolate yesterday and again today -- blaming it on the low-pressure-related headache that has now joined my cold just so I can feel even more sorry for myself. Kyle is definitely on his way to Nova Scotia. :

Hello Judy. Welcome to the Getting Lighter thread. I used to get night sweats early on in my menopausal journey but they don't seem to bother me much now. Maybe I just got used to them. But my sleeping patterns were all out of whack too but lately I'm sleeping much better if I go to bed at a decent hour. Have you discussed this with your doctor?

Yes, it gets much harder to lose the weight after 50...sigh...but it can be done because all the chicks can testify to that. I am a calorie counter. I aim for between 1200-1400 calories per day and I exercise 5-6 days a week. I'm a retired teacher so I can pick and choose the time I want to exercise. If you look in the Accountability Thread in the Stickied area you'll see some of the exercises that the other women do also. I walk, bike and do circuit workouts. But the sky's the limit on what kind and how long to exercise. Maybe you could start with a little walking just around your neighborhood or get a low impact workout DVD.

I was the only woman in our house til my mom came to live with us so I know what it's like living in a man's world.

To get the smilies go to "Go Advanced" at the bottom of the message window that you are typing in and when it takes you there you click on the smilie picture and it should appear in your text as a symbol something like this : ) but with no space between them. When you hit reply it'll come out as a smilie. You'll get used to this system if you post everyday and that's what you need to do to get encouragement and to give encouragement. It's a large, large site. I mainly stick to 4 or 5 threads and wander around reading stuff but I mostly post in my favorites. The Age 50+ is a definite favorite with me.

Hope to see you around lots.

Isabella: Sentimental Fat, I love it. I'd never thought about it like that,I'll bet you are right. I started doing what I call "burst training" on the treadmill. I start out at 3.0 mph for about 3 minutes then speed up to 3.5 for a couple and then to 4.0 for a couple and then 4.2 for 1 minute then go back down in the same manner. It hurt like the devil the first time or two but now if feels pretty good and seems to be working to chase some of that "old" fat away.Just hope my knees don't give out on me before I finish.
Meowee: Sorry you are still not feeling well. Sounds like Kyle is headed your way, hope you stay dry.
Judy: Glad you stopped in. I know you will love it here at FC, it is the best. As for menopause, it has been so long since I was there I have kind of forgotten how it was. I know I didn't have much trouble with hot flashes but lots of irritability and sleeplessness. Actually exercise helps both of those, so as Isabella said start slowly and do little things even sitting and watching your favorite shows on tv, if you do some light hand weights or swing your legs or march in place, it all counts up and you get more energy as time goes on. Good Luck and hurry back for lots of inspiration from the gals around here.By the way my plan is called "What plan?" I basically use portion control as I've been trying to lose weight off and on most of my adult life. I belonged to TOPS for about 7 years and learned about what and what-not to eat so I know what I should do but as you know it is hard. Hang in there and we will help you all we can.
No great plans for today,am at work and it is a slow day here so I guess I will get some cleaning done, right after I get done with the treadmill.
Hope all of you have a fantastic day, tomorrow is our last chance to do well for this month so GOOD LUCK TO ALL. DONNA

Well . . . Kyle was pretty well-behaved right around my part of northern Nova Scotia . . . hardly caused any stir at all.

Wish I could say the same for my stupid cold -- I'm still overfeeding it comfort foods like chocolate and pizza. Hopefully it will head out to sea soon too.

JUDY -- afraid I cannot offer any good news for the menopause problems. I'm still getting the hot flashes and night sweats and poor sleeping routines and it's almost 20 years since I started them -- may have something to do with my diabetes though.

Big for everybody.

PS -- Just started the new October Accountability thread up in the Sticky area -- hope to see you over there if you are interested for this month.

Hi gang . . .

JUDY . . . do come and join in . . . editing is really easy -- at the bottom right of your post (see the one above) you will find a little button that says "EDIT". Just click on that and you will be taken to the familiar input screen. Make your changes and then click on post reply and you have edited.

BTW . . . regarding the scale question . . . doesn't really matter which one you use, just be consistent. We are so much more than a number on a scale anyway. How you feel and how your clothes fit is a much better way to judge if your journey to better health and fitness is being successful. The scale- can be so fickle.

Having said that . . . I'm taking my 1 pound loss for the month of September (average of the numbers for the month). Actually I'm quite amazed by it, since it was definitely not a great OP month for me. October will be better.

And, to that end, I think I'll start a new thread for us since this one is getting rather full. Will be back in a few minutes to close this one and post a link to the new one.

See you soon.
