Yesterday we went to the mall and ended up walking quite a bit. Part of that was designated walking time, between dinner and the movie. All in all I am counting that as 30 minutes. Today, I did 30 minutes of dancing and then I also did my 50 minute strength training tape. So with all that my total is now 945.

The group total is now 7333 + 110 = 7443

Gala was fun. Got to meet basketball allstar Sheryl Swoops and her partner. I've loved, loved, loved watching her play women's pro-basketball for years. L and I danced up a storm for almost 1.5 hours. I was incredibly amazed of how much fitter I am now than before. I always have loved dancing but always had to sit down after 3-4 songs cuz of my knees hurting or my legs being too tired. The few breaks we took were due more to tedium from the single beat music than to my body being tired. Amazing!

We are both ballroom dancers (she more experienced than I) - tango, salsa, merengue - so it's boring for us to dance to 70's and 80's dance/pop music the dj was playing; we did manage to do some fancy footwork on the floor, despite the beat. Needless to say, I had a very good time. My knee was hurting a little today - I'm sure partly the "girl shoes" without my orthopedic insoles, partly the barefoot dancing and twirling about the dance floor. Today is my "rest" day, but I couldn't stay away from the bike. So, I did the minimum - 30 minutes.

New Group Total = 7443 + 30 = 7470

Tomorrow my new scales arrive and I get to find out how much I weigh. I cannot wait! :-)

Nancy - It is definitely a pain not knowing when to expect TOM. Things are better today, both emotional and weight-wise (I am down a LITTLE). I am beginning to wonder whether you can get all of the hormonal changes, and what that brings with it, without actually having a period. This is the second time that this has happened. Interesting...
I was on the pill for a while, then tried the contraceptive needle, but had problems with both, so I'm not sure what other choices I have now.

Wyllen - Patience... definitely NOT my middle name. I try, but it doesn't seem to work.
I would love to blame the scales, but I have 3 sets in the house, new and old ones, and I have weighed myself on both sets of digital scales, which show I am up. Oh well... it was worth a try huh?

MariaLucia - I am SO glad you had such a good time at the gala. It sounds as though you danced up a storm. That would have given you such a good workout! Pity you can't put a 'minute' value on it. I hope your knee is better soon. You're as bad as me on your rest day! Can't stay away from working out.

I have felt MUCH better about exercising over the past two days. I am paying much closer attention to my body now and 'listening' to the messages it tries to send me. I am fine on the treadmill in the mornings, so I did that for 30 mins both mornings, jogging for 10 mins at intervals. Last night I did 40 mins on the bike, just at a slower pace, as my legs were bothering me. Tonight I felt good and did the 20 mins on the home gym, then got on the bike, but only did 20 mins as I was getting tired legs again. I know I could have pushed myself to do more, but I am being careful.

Personal Goal... 200 - 140 = 60 mins left of April's goal of 1800

Group Total... 7640 + 140 = 7780

Some of you are really kicking butt with your workouts! Keep it up!

Take care,

Zelma

Wyllenn - yeah, i try to not add too much to my plate if I can. May is going to be a hard month emotionally and I'm sure taking that into consideration as I'm planning for May's exercise goals.

Zelma - I thought of counting some of my dance minutes toward exercise, then I decided against it. My goal is to start living a more active lifestyle and that is why I work out so much, to have the fitness necessary to live the kind of life I want to live including regular ballroom dance classes, long walks, Saturday hiking, etc. If I thought of those things as "exercise" then I probably would slack on my planned workouts. Weird, maybe, but that's how I feel. :-)

Today I did 60-min wind-sprint bike ride. What a great workout! I really love wind-sprint days. Been reading more on them too - physiology is FASCINATING! Did you know we have three different chemical systems that take care of fueling our muscles, depending on what the length of the exertion? The more I learn, the more in awe I am of our bodies!!!

Group Total... 7780 + 60 = 7840

Let me see...Saturday, I got in a 20 minute walk, then on Sunday, went on a 40 minute hike at a county park called Love Creek...very beautiful, and hills/stairs=workout! lol...today, I mowed our yard! I haven't done that in a very long time...60 minutes pushing that mower around, and up hills...yeah, I'm counting it as exercise :P Got in a 25 minute walk on top of that today, so I'm adding:

7840+145=7985! Brings me up to 505 mins for this month, but yeah...for slacking almost all month, I'm not going to make that goal.

Kayley -- Glad to see you posting again!

We've dropped a lot of people, haven't we? Val got this all started -- Val, where are you??

We got to the gym for weights, then I did my back exercises then a walk with the dogs. I'm starting to try to do more than 1 thing a day! Like Zelma! 50 minutes for me.

Group total ~ 7985 + 50 = 8035 minutes

Did OK on the exercising again today. I think TOM has finally thought to show his face, which answers a few questions. I seem to have more energy again. I don't know if lack of energy has ANYTHING to do with TOM, but they seem to coincide with me.

I did my usual 30 mins on the treadmill, jogging during intervals for 10 of those minutes (1 min at 5.4mph and 1 min at 6mph for each interval), and I did 40 mins on the bike. I was going to do 40 mins at a slower pace, then seemed to almost stick to the usual pace, but still stuck to the 40 mins I had originally committed to.

Personal Goal... 60 - 70 = 10 mins above April's goal of 1800

Group Total... 8035 + 70 = 8105

You are right Wyllen, we do seem to be missing quite a few folk, but I think we are still doing pretty well. That total is still making its way up there. It is great to see people still committed to exercising even though they have things going on in their lives that would have made them give up in the past. It shows just how far we've all come with our lifestyle changes.

Keep it up everyone!

Take care,

Zelma

Yesterday I went to the gym and did 30 minutes on the elliptical and 30 minutes on the treadmill. That brings my total to 1005.

The group total is now 8105 + 60 = 8165

I did 35 minutes on the treadmill tonight, using "hill" on level 3. I was going to do some strength training when I go home, but I totally forgot until right now as I am writing this (oops!) That brings my total to 1040.

The group total is now 8875 + 35 = 8910

Note to self: do not attempt a major cardio workout while still full from a big dinner. Only 20 min on the treadmill tonight, and at a low intensity...

Group total ~ 8910 + 20 = 8930 minutes
