Hey guys and gals. I'm pretty new to 3FC, and have less than one year to stay in the twenty-something forum, so I am taking full advantage!
It seems my weight has stabalized in the 160s for the last like FIFTEEN years. Sure, there have been forays into the 150s, forays into the 170s (I'd rather not talk about those times), but for some reason the 160s have a hold on me.
So I started to lose weight a couple months ago...stopped, kept off the weight, and restarted back in early September. So I went from 172 down to 167...then hovered...it was AWFUL...then all of a sudden, weight came off...YES! Down to 163, now back up to 165. I can't be eating more than 1200 calories on the average day. Am I stuck here forever?
From my experience, no one is ever "stuck" at a weight. (presuming they are overweight, and not deluded!) I've frequently found in my weight gains and losses that it's VERY hard to get the scale going down, and it frequently requires a brief period of perfection eating and working-out-wise to drag your body back down into a new, lower weight range. However, maintenance is much less of a struggle. The body wants to keep you within the same range, so once you're down, you should be able to eat more normally, and maintain that new, lower weight.
STICK AROUND.

You are totally the voice of reson Jelbb...just what I needed today. I am definitely going to stick around the 160s forum until I beat my weight down into the 150s. I have a very fun trip to Central America in January and I want to look good when I'm ziplining...oh yeah, and on the beach! Is the 140s by Jan too much of a dream? Probably not, but I like food too much to get there that soon. First week of November, maybe I'll do South Beach for a week...perfection South Beach phase I - that might do the trick.
It's probably not too much to expect... Except, timeline goals are sometimes a bad idea. Even if you're being perfection-personified, sometimes your body just... won't cooperate. You might drop 5 lbs in a matter of a few weeks, only to have your body sit at the same weight for a month with the exact same diet and exercise you used to lose the previous 5 lbs. It doesn't mean you're trapped at that weight, just that your body is trying to keep you constant... and it may take a bit for your body to catch up to your weight loss.
Anyhow, my point being that it's kinda depressing if you hit a plateau, and your body doesn't want to cooperate and make the weight drop off immediately, and you don't make a timeline goal.
Then again, that's just me! Some people are super inspired by timeline goals!
Jelbb - that is AWESOME!!! Keep up the good work. You should be back in the 150s forum in no time
My scale said 164.5 (it totally went in the wrong direction), but I think I have alot of water weight. I looked at my daily sodium totals and I have been having 300% the recommended amt of daily sodium + TOM fast approaching= temp weight gain.
Gold: I feel ya with the water weight. Asinine amounts of water, that's the best way to combat sodium and TOM bloat. Other than that, just gotta wait it out! And that's likely all the scale going in the wrong direction is.
I'm a bit worried that my neat little nearly 2-lb drop overnight is just going to be a fluke. But I really will be thrilled when I get back into the 150s. You know, I've been eating better for two days, and I already feel like I look better? I'm probably imagining it, but I feel like my face has less bloat to it... Which maybe it does since I haven't taken in nearly as much sodium and fast food junk....
Jelbb - Let me know how it goes! I am going to be offline for a couple days, but I'm crossing my fingers for you. The non scale (i.e. - less bloat) victories are definitely a good sign!! WL - fluke or no fluke - you saw a 160.6.
I think I'll just keep watching cals, and then do SB Phase I the first week of November. I wouldn't make my Oct goal of 155 (waaay behind on that), but I'll be way happier to never see 160 again.
