Keep busy. I graze when I have nothing to do. If food is accessible, try to make it veggies so if you must graze, you're doing less damage.
Grazing is a huge problem for me.
I'm the same as Jane, I have to stay away from the kitchen and keep myself busy. I try to plan my day in my journal as best I can and have it already mapped out what the eating plan is. Granted, if I'm hungry for my snack an hour early, I have it and adjust my plan. (I can always add more fruit and veggies as I need.) I never go hungry and never (?!) get tempted to eat things I'm not supposed to by testing that hunger. If it's not on my agenda to eat for the day, it's not happening! And I find some odd kind of peace from that.
Good luck on your weightloss mission, this is a good group and lots of motivating support to keep us on our path.
I am also a grazer! I try to keep apples, grapes, carrot sticks and pickles. If it can do damage I try to keep it away! Also, I ask myself everytime I am about to eat something if it is worth the points/calories or the potential scale damage.
Thanks for the responses. I'm definitely worse about grazing on the weekends when I'm home rather than during the week when we are busy with work and school.
First thank you, thank you for all of your kind words. I'm about to post a 290's thread here in a second!
Second to fix grazing keep track of every thing you eat for a few weeks. Write everything down. Sometimes the pain to bother to write down "crusts from kids pbj" is enough to make it not worth it to eat it!
So.... I'm a lot further from under 300 than I thought. Turns out my scale was way off. Which means I have 70 pounds to go, not 20, and that I was probably over 500 pounds at some point in my life.
I've started over with a new scale, but suffice to say twoderville is pretty far off on the horizon. Still rooting for all of you though!!
I am a lurker here (was qualified back in January at 306)..
Jane.. Please don't let the "nos" discourage you. YOU have done AMAZING.. truly and you will continue to do amazing. The only thing that changed as that you have alittle more to lose that is all. You are still in control and can still do it. We all believe in you and are here to listen when you get frustrated too. Tho I lurk... I still care and root for you (and everyone).
Thanks Everyone, JustB it was a TFL, I bought it online when I started in August, it had really good reviews, but now I have a conair WW scale. I chose it because it was the same model as my sister in laws, and it matched the hospital one pretty closely.
I'm up a pound today, but I think it's sodium. I'm going to buckle down now and hopefully I can post an actual proven loss for the last two weeks of april!
For grazing - everything I buy that is like a chip or a nut or something in a large bag, I instantly portion them out into small tupperware, snack bags, etc. I'm not going to graze by opening up a portion and eating one or two and cheating myself out for later. I also try to stay away from the kitchen as much as possible so that it's a trip if I really want something, and I try to avoid making myself hungry. I make sure I have sliced strawberries or a good veggie & dip in the fridge if I really really need something. I find if I withold myself when I'm hungry, later I get REALLY hungry, and then it's just not pretty.
I'm so sorry Jane!!! That is really awful, I can't believe your scale was that off!!! That is absolutely crazy. You've really done a wonderful job though, totally awesome!!
I thought I was doing good eating fresh sliced deli meat but the sodium is insane!
Look for the good stuff - around here it goes for about $10/lb and is much healthier than the cheaper sliced turkey. You can ask the person at the deli counter to show you the labels of their different items too.
I meet with a wellness coach on Saturday and decided that I was going to work with her. She'll provide me with meal planning, encouragement and moral support among other things. I'm really looking forward to it.
Tomorrow I'm upping my game play by starting to walk to work in the morning. It's about 2 km to work. I'll be doing it all summer to work and back.
Hang in there, snowboundchick. Just by posting here shows you have the strength to keep going in this journey. My sister has a wellness coach and swears up and down by her and the things she teaches. She has made tremendous strides with emotional issues, getting her weight down (she was never heavy like me, but wanted to get some weight off that was from emotional eating), and some stress issues. I hope your wellness coach is just as great! And we are here for you, even when you are burnt out. Sometimes you just need a little break. But please don't leave 3FC!
