What is RFL?

LebenAlles 01-16-2013 12:54 PM

It's Lyle McDonald's Rapid Fat Loss 'healthy crash diet'. Basically it's one of the healthiest ways to lose weight in a short amount of time and isn't supposed to be sustained for an extended period of time. Really low carbs, really low fat, and high protein...basically a small list of acceptable foods...so it's different from Atkins and those types in that you don't have all the fat either.

I'm using it as supplemental to my diet...3 days on it then 4 on a regular calorie count with moderate carbs to keep from gaining much back when I'm off. Not sure how it's going to work as it's still incorporating an extreme measure for a few days, but I have an engagement party for a friend coming up and her wedding after that...itll be the first time I've seen most of these people in over a year, so they last saw me as the 305 lb me. I want to be as small as possible to really wow them :) My other excuse is that I took my sweet time losing the sixty I've lost so far (a year), so a few months losing a little quicker can't hurt, right?

Anyways, I'm sure that's more information than you bargained for, but there ya go.

LebenAlles, you might be interested in checking out the Dukan Diet. It sound quite similar to RFL - not to say you should change something if it's working for you, just that while I am following Dukan, I find I pick up helpful bits and pieces all over.

And Daimere, the 260s-250s thread is here, if you are still looking
http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/100-...50s-new-7.html

as for me, not quite officially here yet - the scale was 250.0 this morning. So close but no cigar! lol! (but I'm going to start packing, getting ready to move.)

Ah ha! I bet people can get really judgy about that. So in theory- it's probably pretty low calorie too. Does it make you feel tired at all?

I did something called GAPS (Gut and Psychology Syndrome) last year and when you are first starting- you are just eating boiled meat and veggies (EEEK! The weight came off quickly during that time)- but I still felt amazing. ::shrugs::

LebenAlles 01-17-2013 09:22 AM

Yeah, though I understand why they are. If it was something I was trying to sustain for a long period of time, I'd probably be judging myself more...more than I obviously already am, ha. But I tried doing it for more than a week and almost lost my shiz.

Physically though, I feel great on it. He's very particular about the vitamins you take with it, and stresses the importance of caffeine (he says to do an EC stacker but I haven't done that) to supplement the loss of energy. Which brings up all sorts of other issues, but yeah...I feel really good. Takes away the 'bloaty' feeling you get sometimes with a decent amount of carbs.

The only way I won't keep this up is if during the four days i have off each week, I gain back more than 50% of what I lost during the 3 days on. That would make it not worth it.

Boiled meat and veggies...that sounds a lot like this...except for the boiled part. And it's all lean meats and fish...no beef or pork.

Today I'm officially here 249.2!!! Happy Dance!! :broc:

I'm going to wait to change my ticker until my normal Sunday WI, and hopefully I'll have even further distance from the 250s by then.

jenicra 01-17-2013 12:21 PM

Glad you're feeling well LebenAlles - keep it up!

April Snow - nice job!

April Snow 01-17-2013 01:55 PM

Thanks Jenicra!

Even though I started in the 250s this time, my all time high is the 260s, and being in the 240s finally feels like I have enough distance! lol! Not that I intend to go back to the 250s at all, but I like having a lot of room between where I am now and then.

It looks like a lot of people posting here are in the low 240s or already in the 230s, like you, so seems like this must be a great group!

LebenAlles 01-18-2013 08:29 AM

241.0 today. It's Day one OFF RFL, so I expect a gain of a few lbs, but as long as it's between 2 and 3, I'm Okay with it. I'm looking forward to being able to have something other than meat and veggies! I had a dark chocolate kiss this morning for breakfast and it was HEAVEN.

Congrats April, you're doing great!

Jenicra, I'm right on your heels hopefully!

lunarsongbird 01-18-2013 09:49 AM

Leben, I'm interested in seeing how your experiment turns out. Do you supplement with protein at all when you are RFL?

I also feel like I'm experimenting. I've learned that if I'm off plan for a half a week- and on plan for a half a week- I end up breaking even. Which means if I end up making the decision for being off plan- it really can't be more then 2 days.

I'm a bit disappointed to see that it doesn't take very much for me to be off plan. :-/

April, It doesn't seem like many people stay in the 240s very long- so I think we come back to pull you guys through to the 230s, as there aren't too many people posting in this group.

I also don't change my numbers until official weigh-ins, but gosh darn I want a ticker!

April Snow 01-18-2013 10:14 AM

thanks Leben and Lunar! Glad to be here, even though I am cheering you guys on to leave as soon as possible! lol! But I know I'll be getting company from the 250s very soon including Tziri.

Lunar - I remember how excited I was when I got my ticker - the one good thing about the wait is that you've done so well and made great progress, so your ticker will look great as soon as you get it!

Tziri 01-18-2013 08:43 PM

Officially 249.3! Hello all! Hope everyone has a great weekend.

lunarsongbird 01-18-2013 10:27 PM

Woohoo! Congratulations, Tziri! April totally predicted your arrival!
:welcome3:

I hope you will come and visit with us in the 230s-220s soon! :carrot:

April Snow 01-19-2013 11:19 AM
