Happy Wednesday....

What a day, full of meetings, tummy hurts, have cramps, bleeding like a stuck pig, absolutely miserable. It has only been 3 weeks since last period. Like what's up with that? Other than that it is a great day. haha

Have a great one everyone.

Love and Hugs

Good morning chickies,

I see several little eggs lit up. We're together in spirit.

Sorry you're feeling so bad Annie. I noticed as I headed into perimenopause the periods started to get really erratic. Hope you feel better, grab a hot pack. I saw now that they have those heating pain patches for women's cramps now. Anything to make a buck Tho I did swear by a heating pad when I had to deal with that stuff.

Good morning Mel. Don't pull yourself in too many directions filling in at the office. Just do what absolutely needs done and save your energy for delegating to others.

Ceejay - it rained here but I missed it. I probably brought it on myself because night before last I basically wasted an hour of my life watering the yard and then woke up to a soaking.

Did you have a nice birthday Michelle?

Enjoy your trip to Singapore Shad. Safe travels and good cabbies lady

DH woke me up an hour early (at 4am) when he got up to let the cat out. I couldn't fall back to sleep so I'm sure this will be a long day. I did get a good workout in the pool, used the floaty resistance dumbells for some muscle work as well as swimming. Last night we had a little party at the diabetes program. She made some yummy stuff, I will pass along recipes. One was a black bean and mango salsa. I admit I was not a fan of black beans or mangoes but this was fabulous. So fabulous that I stopped at the store on the way home and picked up ingredients. Will be having that with grilled chicken breast on lettuce for lunch today.

I have to hit the road now so adios and have a good one.

Good morning ladies -

I am in such a great mood today. I had a very nice birthday yesterday, and having the afternoon off to play with the doggies was wonderful. I did manage to get stung by a yellow jacket just before we were going to leave for the Brewers game, but took care of that and now it only itches a little. The Brewers game was fun and hard fought...but they ended up losing in extra innings. I'm just in a really good mood today. I've got a busy day of work ahead, with a short break for physical therapy over lunch time. DH had to get up early to catch a 6:30 flight for Florida - Happy, he'll be changing planes in Memphis, so I told him to wave out the airport window though I'm not sure what direction you work in relation to the airport. This is just an overnight trip, he'll be home around 10:00 tomorrow night. At least I got to spend my b'day with my DH! Yay!

Mel - It may be too late to tell you this as you may already be at the office, but don't overdo okay?

Annie - I hope you feel better soon. Does Advil or Aleve help your cramps?

Ceejay - I hope you have better weather today.

Shad - Enjoy your trip to Singapore!

Happy - Good for you for getting in such a good pool workout! YGG! You are now the exercise , at least until my back gets better and can reclaim my crown! I've recently acquired a taste for black beans and mangoes, but I haven't had them together yet. Sound like you have a yummy and very health lunch planned for today! Enjoy!

to everyone!

Love and hugs,

Michelle - I waved to DH on my way into work. I am about 2 miles east of the airport. Hope he has a safe trip - not enough time to have any fun. How does his knee hold up travelling - especially on these crowded planes?

They had a drawing at work today and I won a $25 gas card. What a pleasant surprise as I never win anything.

Here's the recipe for the salsa. I had it with a grilled chicken breast and romaine lettuce. And a few Tostidos Scoops Chips

Black Bean and Mango Salsa

1 envelope Good Seasons (dry) Italian Dressing Mix
1 can (16 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
1 pkg (10 oz) frozen yellow corn - rinse with cold water to thaw
1 cup chopped ripe mango (I cheated and used the fresh mango presliced in a jar because I have made 2 valiant attempts to cut up a mango only to nearly sever my hand in the process)
1/2 cup diced red bell pepper
1/3 cup diced red onion
1/3 cup chopped fresh cilantro (fresh REALLY makes a difference)
1/4 cup lime juice (you can even splurge with a half cup as this really intensifies the flavor)

To make - mix all ingredients until well blended. Cover. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour. Serve with grilled chicken or tortilla chips (the ones like scoops are really good).

To make this as a cold side dish add 1-1/2 cups brown rice.

Makes about 32 servings. Nutritional info is for salsa only.

Hi Happy -

DH said he saw you wave back at him. The recipe looks phenomenol! Thanks! I might even make it for our next work potluck (as a side dish adding the brown rice).

Just checking in. Things have been hectic (and not good) around here lately but just have to improve. I seem to be constantly dealing with a sick dog and wiping blood spatters off my walls in the kitchen. One of the lovely side-effects of Cushings is skin breakdown and Hersh has been bleeding from her tail. Being Hersh, she constantly wags it. Spatter! Spatter! Liquid bandage seems to work though. TMI, I'm sure.

The chemo meds (Mitotane/Lysodren) did their job of knocking off adrenal gland cells as of last Friday. Hersh stopped eating and drinking, over the weekend with other vets covering for my specialist. We survived a really hard Saturday and Sunday - I'll spare you the details but all body fluids were involved except semen!

Monday we dashed in to Ottawa and they ran tests that showed H's cortisol production was extremely low so she went on Prednisone to get them back up. (I stopped the other med on Saturday!) Tuesday she seemed less lethargic and yesterday she started the day off by putting her head into the fridge and stealing a peach! She's drinking again too and is much more herself. Whew! Now we continue the dose of prednisone, test again in a few weeks and then work on balancing her cortisol with low doses of the Lysodren. ($200 for 30 pills. I may have to give up Scotch!)

I'm hoping she stays stable for a while. Next week I go to a meeting with the other MODs and plan to leave the Doggage with the Hyper Pypers while I'm gone. No way my darling goes to a kennel when she's sick! I know she'll be well loked after by the Pypers and they are only 20 minutes away from teh Ottawa Vet hospital.

So that's what's happening besides the usual Real Life crap like trying to get caught up with outside work before the snow flies and working hard to rein in some of my volunteer workload!

I'll check in when I can and try not to whine.

Wow, I'm the first one here since yesterday. It is getting quiet around here. Well I'm sure everyone is busy in their own right.

Mel - are you involved in any sort of 911 memorial service? Was reading an article this morning and as always, controvery over what, when, how long things should be done. I imagine that people have very strong feelings no matter how they feel about it. Hope you have a restful day.

Ceejay - ditto Michelle's comment on B's surgery. Hope this doesn't put an extra burden on you.

Michelle - glad you got to spend your birthday with your DH. And it's nice to hear that SOMEONE is in a good mood lately Seems like most of us are walking around grumpy over something or other I think I wake up in a good mood when I don't have to get up at 4 to go to the gym AND it's a weekend or holiday Hope the joy continues

Hope you are having a better day today Annie. All I can say is going forward you won't have to deal with cramps in the future BUT it gets replaced by a boatload of other annoyances I don't miss cramps at all tho.

Hi Ruth, Shy, Carla, Madcat

I think I have to go sleep in the guestroom. Sometimes the mattress bothers my back. I don't like a firm mattress but I wonder about the support in these extra thick, pillow top mattresses. I think they aren't making them anymore. However I am not about to toss a 1,000 dollar mattress that is only 3 years old. I got 7 hours of sleep last night but I still feel tired. I think part of it is the atmospheric pressure or something in the air with all the disturbances from the hurricanes and such. Not enough to blow us down, just enough to ruffle the feathers. DH says he is hurting too. But we have to carry on because we're not allowed to go back to bed until we feel better

Have a good Thursday - weekend is almost here.

Happy Thursday Ladies -

I didn't get to the gym last night, as I was a bit sore after physical therapy, which consisted of cardio and strength training...so I got a workout in anyway. I'm going to the gym tonight though as I have an appointment with my trainer. DH comes home tonight from Florida, and he'll probably be going to Mexico in a week or two.

Ruth - So sorry to hear about Hershey. What a rough weekend you had. I'm glad to hear she's more herself. It's difficult to balance meds, especially in animals. Sheesh, those are expensive pills! Sending you and Hersh hugs.

Happy - I'm happy to say I'm still in a good mood. I watched some TV last night and got a good night's sleep. My back is a bit sore, but I'll try and stretch a bit sitting at the desk. Sorry that you didn't sleep well last night and that you and DH feel better soon. Sore backs are no fun. And something about changes in the weather...when it gets cloudy, dreary or rainy...I tend to feel tired no matter how much sleep I got. Luckily it's supposed to be sunny today and not rain until tonight....so being tired will be okay.

to everyone else. I've got lots to do today and may not be able to check in later.

Love and hugs,
