Default I think my scale is broken!

Yesterday and today, it showed 225.4 which would mean a loss of 2.6 pounds since last week. I love it!

Anyway, I know I didn't lose 2.6 pounds in just one week. I think it must be that I've been so durn good since my Saturday binge that it was like starting over and I lost water. But whatever - it leaves me within range of my 225 goal.

Kaylets, I love Salmon too but usually have it only when I eat out. Dh eats no seafood so that would come under the "cooking two meals" part. We ate differently last night as he insisted on doing his own meal (fine).

Glad you're feeling a bit better. Dollar. Hard to put in your long days when you're under the weather.

Congrats on taming the scale jumping a bit, Ceara. When I started this journey, one of my goals was to weigh only once a week and tame my scale compulsion. That did last a while but I have to admit I'm weighing almost every day again. Smack!

But overall

to you all today.

Anagram, WTG with the busted scale. Awesome loss! Actually, I bet you did lose 2.6, it just caught up from some time you deserved to lose weight and didn't. There's a woman on another thread that lost EIGHT pounds last week. Ah, wouldn't that be sweet! And I was looking at another woman's diet journal - she actually lost 4-6 pounds a week for most of the time while she lost almost 100 pounds. Can you imagine! We would be thin in no time! My sister and I used to joke about it when we started a diet and lost 5 or so in a week, like "Hey, at this rate I'll be skinny in 6 weeks!" (didn't weigh so much then )

Dollar, could you convince your family to be a little more selfish with the germs? Hard to get these things out of the house when people just keep passing them along.

Amarantha, to recap (I feel like I do this endlessly, but it's always good to remind myself):

I'm following the glycemic load plan:

http://www.health.harvard.edu/article.cfm?id=48

and haven't been counting points or calories, trying to eat when hungry and not otherwise. I have been strictly following my rule of not eating other than at the table when I'm alone, which is CRUCIAL to my avoidance of binges (not to mention the sneaky calories that get in otherwise).

I walk at least 3 miles a day, sometimes considerably more, and try to do a set of yoga and one of tai chi each day, as well as first thing and last thing qi qong from time to time. I do circuit training 3 times a week. I am thinking of adding in a little more intense exercise, which I think would really speed up the weightloss.

I take in 2-3L of water a day, and aim for 9 fruit and veggie servings.

Also, I'm trying to work on the aspects of my life that need work, because I think that if everything is in balance my weight will get there too. So I'm trying to fit in more fun, spirituality, creativity, time with friends, etc.

Punkin, that cluster headache episode sounds terrible. I hate to think of you suffering like that! Nosy question: what ever happened with the crush from a couple of months back? Enquiring minds want to know! (although if you tell them to butt out, they will understand!) My scale showed me down 2 more pounds today. YAY!!!

Welcome teachrbabe, we are going to keep rolling through holidays, leaving the pounds in the dust. To Thanksgiving and beyond!

Tipper, I'm sending you soothing vibes for your back! How we feel affects every aspect of our lives and makes it so much harder when we are in pain. You deserve extra for walking through the pain. Hope you feel better soon!

Eydie, station wagons seem great, so practical if you want to transport lots of stuff. My fear, though, is I would gradually fill it with junk that I was lugging around for no good reason.

Wildfire, do you still have the quilts you made? My sister made some, but gave them all away as gifts. I think I'd like to make one - I love sewing by hand, I find it so meditative and soothing. Hmmmm... sounds like a good hobby for the evening.

Kaylets, I like the idea of trying new foodstuffs every week. But I think if there's a food out there I haven't given a shot (e.g. seal flippers), there's a darn good reason why not

Ceara, (peering over the top of my editing glasses, which slip becomingly down my nose) the rule about "its," and "it's" is:

"It's" is a contraction of "it is" or "it has." "Its" (meaning "belonging to it") doesn't use an apostrophe.

Have a great day All!

Hello everyone!

Still have a headache - not so blinding anymore, but still, after almost a week it's getting pretty old. I did go to Curves yesterday - the last circuit was tough. My headache went from dull thud to sharp pinch. So, today I'm not going... going to try one more day of being a slug, and weening myself off the migraine drugs to see if some of my headache is from drug rebound.

Yesterday was binge free!!!! It's been a long time since I could say that.... Did anyone see Oprah last week? They were discussing the link between communication with our parents (or in the case of these kids, the *lack* of communication) with food and comfort. I guess there's something about having parents guiding us and parenting vs. being more of a friend or equal (like mine were with me). Interesting stuff. They did a study and showed that when an overweight child is put into a parent/child relationship class - so they can learn to express themselves better (both sides) that the kids didn't overeat - at all, and actually started loosing weight.
Anyone else wonder how Oprah got so thin so fast this time????

Wildfire - Hey, I'm shaped like you! No hips, more of an upside down triangle actually. Same as you, when I find a pair of pants that fit, I can grab a huge handful of fabric right below my butt. Reeeeal attractive....

Kaylets - I love your quote (again)!

Ceara - Congrats on not giving in to the scale!

Dollar - on the loss! You're totally right - it's not about making the challenge, but about loosing weight and getting healthy - the challenge is just there for fun!

Anagram - You're there! .4 away from your goal - but heck, you could, ahem, "go potty" and be there... Congratulations!!!

Arabella - Congrats on the loss to you too!

Ok, my "crush" - still there, still a doll and still so perfect that it's a sad thing that he's so far away. BUT, who knows... I believe people come into your life to teach you things - he may not be "the one", but he's already taught me that not all men are like my ex, that it's best to be great friends before anything else, that there IS someone out there that's just right for me (aka there's other fish in the sea) and above all he's taught me that I've healed quite a bit from my divorce. I never thought I'd want another man in my life again after what my ex put me through - but now I've realized that it would be wonderful to have a friend that was a special man in my life too. I never had a friendship with my ex - probably the first (bad) sign of things to come.

Funny thing - I had a dream I was moving out of my house and renting it, then my horoscope in the newspaper (which I really don't believe in) said in the next 6 months I'd be surprised by a romantic involvement. Well, I plan on going to Arizona to visit my Dad, then L.A. for business, where I'll also finally get to meet "my guy" in May - that would be 6 months from now.

Well, another reason to get my butt in gear huh?? I've seen him, he hasn't seen me! He, by the way, looks like a big ol' teddy bear...

Ta' for now!

Default Focusing ...

Amarantha be focusing heavily this a.m. on the Thanksgiving challenge ... sometimes she loseth sight o' that goal and that her new POINTS game be merely another path to that (revised) goal. Amarantha sayeth that WE ARE DOING THIS ... EVERYONE HERE IS SUCCEEDING IN THIS CHALLENGE, EVEN AMARANTHA, WHO HATH NOT LOST A POUND ... YET!!! WOOOOOOO-HOOOOO!!!

Arabella: Thanks be to thee for describing thy plan. Thou followeth a healthy and sane path and it will carry thee far, methinks!! Congratulations on thy loss of four !!

Punkin: Hagatha o' the Hut sayeth thou shouldst consult doc re a weeklong headache even if thou thinketh thou knowest what it be ... and also thou shouldst not intensely exercise with such a headache. Hope Hag doth not offend by offering her opinion. Thou knowest how these hags are. She saith her crystal ball also sees happiness in thy future and that the horoscope in the newspaper be correct, so get well and enjoy.

To all: This website be about to crash on Amarantha and she hath only a clock and can't see anymore posts as the cursor barely moveth. So she answereth all with her generic good wishes only and needeth to go shopping anyhoo!!! Working late tonight at school BORED meeting! Sigh!

GOBBLE, GOBBLE NOT!!! RESULTS, THAT'S WHAT WE'VE GOT!!! THANKSGIVING, THANKSGIVING, WE LOVE THEE A LOT, 'CAUSE SUCCESS IS WHAT WE'VE GOT!!! (Punkin's poem was better, but I tried! )

You guys are so incredible and wonderful and caring and, and, and... ok, you're worried - in a large nutshell, here's the deal...

~ Headache 101 (aka Terri's Brain)
My Dr. knows all about me and my funny brain. I've had migraines since I was 10 and was diagnosed with both migraine and cluster headaches (they are different) - for me this is the norm. I've got Imitrex, hydrocodone (synthetic codeine), prednisone (which I will NOT take) and other things at my disposal. The neurologist said if I have another one that brings me into the ER they'll try lithium (oh joy). I've been taking normal Excedrin (equiv. of 2 Tylenol & 2 asprin) since the Imitrex raises my blood pressure and the hydrocodone causes me to halucinate when I'm almost asleep... This is the first cluster I've had (and it's a *really* mild one compaired to '99) in probably a year or so. Right now I have a sore-brain headache (another sign it was cluster, from the rapid dilation/restriction/dilation, etc. of blood vessles - causes an odd headache-like feeling - also a sign that it's almost over ).

Getting off the pill and on Depo-provera cured the bi-monthly 3 day long migraines. None of the normal stuff - cheese, cured meats, wine, etc. trigger me. No one knows what triggers clusters - but weather change will get me, and I think that's what started this. This one is *nothing* like what I had in '99, which lasted almost 1 month and sent me to the ER. Not even the morphine they gave me did anything (although I did find out I'm deathly allergic to morphine ).

So, they think blood vessel-wise something is wired a little funny in my head - 98% of the time it's smoooooth sailing, then that 2% hits and it takes a week or so to settle everything down.

But I'm fiiiiine, feeling mucho better today and probably by the weekend be back to my evil little self. No, no Curves today, we'll have to see about tomarrow.

Smile Wed pm

Hello all!

I have a station wagon too! Not anything fancy and its not anywhere new but its first owner was very gentle and didnt drive much. And since I do sometimes find things at auctions and yardsales-- perfect.

Realized after all the discussion about points and calories that sometimes I forget that there are lots of vegetables that are 0 points-- And that's how the Zero point soup got is name. ( I know, how obvious was that!) I just automatically eat them without thinking which is why I'm not more hungry.
I've read theories about the water in vegetables helping the "full" feeling but honestly don't know if there's any real science behind that theory.
A really cold weekend is forecast for us here on the East coast so I think some soup would be in order- Might even get some soup made ahead for the freezer but I just don't seem to have it all together for that like you do Punkinseed- I remember one time you mentioned lots of batches made in one weekend. -

And btw, I get sinus headaches, but yours sound awful Punkinseed-!

Oh my, one of my favorite tv shows has begun--- hope everyone has a great evening!

Hello all!

Guess it will be warmer before it gets colder as we have fog everywhere- Going to keep my post short as this fog means longer driving time--

Hidey-hidey-ho!!!! We have a week to go!!!! Thanksgiving's almost here! Let's give a big cheer! ~ Signed, Elbertine Pep

Hmmm. Ok, thanks be to Elbertine for that cheer and thanks be to Kaylets for the quote o' the day! And thanks be to all of us who hangeth here!!!

Amarantha thinketh she must have failed to congratulate some people on recent lossages and she apologizeth!!! She be blanket congratulating all as we are all gonna lose it and meet our goals and if we do not, then Christmas cometh ... ho! ho! ho!!!

Arabella: Found the place on the WW website where it says I can only have 4 activity points. It's on the journal. Needless to say I'm ignoring that!

Was only one point over yesterday, wooooo-hooo!! Not in love with the online journal that oft crashes, but soon will have my at-home kit! Hooray!

Re WW, Amarantha foundeth yesterday that most of their product line be off the shelves ... and the shelves be marked "Out of Stock" as if they don't intend to have any more. Kaylets, remember how thou saith awhile back that WW be revamping? Perhaps this be the revamp in action. I hope they do not sell themselves to Goodtimes Marketing as Richard Simmons, Leslie Sansone, The Firm and probably lots of other fitness companies have done. The foregoing is an opinion based on the horribleness of my (ongoing as they still try to bill me for services I didn't get, didn't order, didn't want and had to cancel a credit card to keep them from robbing me blind) experience with Goodtimes, not meant to offend anyone (except that ******* company) and hopeth no one taketh it as such or feeleth that Amarantha wisheth to start controversy!!! She would never do that!

Someone asked above whether anyone wondered how Oprah got so thin all of a sudden. I had her on last night (she's a nightlight!) and see what thou meaneth. Last time I noticed she was MUCH larger. The pressures on her to deal with her weight issues are tremendous and I kind of feel sorry for her ... not too much, though, as she has a magazine with her face on the cover of EVERY issue, a penthouse that she displayed on a tour during the show, a career that never seems to go downhill (as jealous Amarantha's is wont to do) and a housekeeper and cook. Who could ask for anything more? Sigh.

But I digress because I don't know what Oprah did to get thin. Perhaps she be back with Bob Greene and exercising a lot? Hope she not be starving herself, as that will never work for long.

Have two hour trip to an interview today, so shall hit the Turkey Trail! Hope this post be not too negative. Amarantha be cranky, but hath finished weights at least!!! Sorry it be cold where others are ... the weather here be heavenly, as it always is in winter!!!! Yahoooooo!!!! Woooo-hoooo! (Oops, not gloating, just like the weather today!)

Good Morning, Turkettes!

I just realized that I'm nearing the end of a three-week OP stretch, which would have been a block on the 21-day challenge thread. Tomorrow will be day 21! It was the post-Halloween fiasco click that did it for me. And I'm staying with this thing for life - low glycemic load, water, exercise - there's nothing to quit. That's not to say that I won't have the occasional off-program day, or that I'll never eat an unhealthy carb again, but they will be aberations rather than the normal MO.

Amarantha, I studiously ignore WW's prohibition against counting more than 4 exercise points - it's not like we stop burning calories when we exercise more I also refuse to count carrot points, esp. in light of the new information about their glycemic load as compared to glycemic index.

Your Punkinness, so glad you're starting to feel better!

Kaylets, you are a constant inspiration. As someone else said, you seem so YOUNG! Because of your upbeat attitude and pleasant outlook. I vow to cultivate same my own self!

I'm gearing up to start journaling again, too, because I always find it helpful. Why not today, I say?

Let's make this a good one! Love to all!

Howdy good people.

I have been put in charge of out Thanksgiving diner. What they don't know is that I am going to cut fat and sugar where ever I can. That is what they get for letting me do this.

Amarantha: On the subject of Oprah. She is losing weight with circuit training and eating healthy. She lifts weights, jogs, hikes, and is cutting out sugar I think.

If I had a chef and a personal trainer my diet would be a little easier also.

But I don't so I am in contol of my fat. This is the dreaded week for me. I can already feel the bloating begin. I am not going to weigh until next wednesday. I have 4 pounds to go. I am at 204 now and my turkey goal was 200 or under.

The muscle relaxers I am taking have deminished my appetite. All I want to do is sleep. But I push through my walk I have skipped dinner a few times and went right to bed.

Well ladies, let's get busy. We have one week to get rid of some fat. FAT BAD, THIN AND HEALTHY GOOD. (cave man reference)

Mornin' all and happy Friday eve!!!!

Turkey day is a week from today.... just think... this time next week, most of us will still be asleep! (it's 7am presently)

Nothin' much exciting going on today - I plan on going to Curves. The head seems to be cooperating so far and today's the big *1 month remeasure day* (cue blaring trumpets). I'm a bit nervous, since I've gained 3 pounds since I started - but have places on my body where there's now muscle! Should be interesting.... and regardless of the outcome I will NOT be discouraged!

Kaylets - Yes, it's soup time for sure. It's foggy here this morning too. I just took out my last frozen container of split pea soup this week and have 1 last container of chili... I guess it's time to break out the pots!

Arabella - Congrats on 21 days OP!! That's awsome!!

Amarantha - Aaah, memories... in early November, WW's all over the country (maybe world) have a huge pep rally-type meeting (where you're required to reeeeally dress up to attend) to unveil the changes in the coming year - program tweaks, new products, commercials/promotions, etc. WW centers are told to push their old stuff to make room for the new. In January (big shock) they announce the changes and hype all the new "toys". In January one year, my meeting in Napa, CA went from 25 people to 110 in one week - they're expecting new people and want to sell the new stuff. So, if they're telling you things are sold out it makes perfect sense - you may end up getting the newer products.
Heck, almost makes me want to go back and see the new stuff!

Well, off to work so that next week I just have to sit here... and wait for TURKEY DAY!!!!
