I've been for a nice long walk on the sand dunes today, with a healthyish picnic lunch, now I'm back home for Christmas dinner mark 2, the leftovers! I didn't do too badly yesterday with food, and managed to fit in a walk with mum and a walk with my sister's dogs as well as the run in the morning. Then I practiced my Spanglish when 6 Spanish people (my parents friends) came over for a drink in the evening.
I'm trying to work out what planet my grandmother's on. I'm 5 foot 9 and a size 10 - 12. So she bought me a top for Christmas - size 16 petite?! I might see if I can exchange that one when I get back. Or at least I assume it was for me, it wasn't labelled but the other presents were and it was the one that was leftover, and none of the rest of my family are that size either.
I was gutted today, the Spanish sales haven't started yet so I trekked across the dunes to Mango and it was all full price. I will have to wait for a while to see whether they start before I come home.
I feel as fat as a house. Christmas day was lovely my parents came round. That evening though my father was rushed into hospital with a suspected heart attack. It was just awful I thought this time he would go for sure, and again it was touch and go but my father being my father seems to have pulled through. He is the Coronary Care Unit and is improving all the time.
My mother is very fretting and because of her mental health problems doesn't really understand although I have to say she has been very good. She even did a load of housework and she hasn't done a thing for about 30 years!!!
Anyway I'm just off to my mother's then hospital at 3pm.
Michelle, hope things go ok with your Dad... sorry to hear your news. I'll be saying a little word to the man upstairs for him Take care luvey.
Christmas was wonderful here. The huge great box was a treadmill, although I guessed it before hand as Dave and Hannah can't keep their traps shut with little clues they think they're not giving out I've had a little trial on it, but not a good long go...will do later though.
Have to get out and take my car in for the window to be fixed, bloody thing goes down when it's supposed to go up, and now the stereo is playing up as well... I can hear the c.d's moving about in there, but I can't get them out, nor get them to play.
Michelle I'm thinking about you and your family I hope all turns out well.
I cleaned too yesterday, scrubbed the bathroom and kitchen and even rearranged some cabinets.
Helen your trip sounds beautiful, are you ever tempted to move over there like the rest of your family???
I stole fitness magazine from the gym last night (I'm on of those annoying people who does that but I always read them, then return them and I leave my own magazines there so that is my justification). Anyway for those of us that are scale obsessed they had an article about 10 things that can skew the results of the scale.....
1. Wearing clothes especially shoes-can add up to 6 lbs.
Obviously lighter clothes don't add much but jeans and shoes can add up to 6lbs.
2. You just worked out really hard-can subtract 5 lbs.
3. You just finished off a big bottle of water adds2+ lbs.
4. You had a few alcoholic drinks last night subtract 3-5 lbs since they are dehydrating.
5. You had a "light lunch" adds up to 3 lbs. Healthy food is heavy with fiber and waterso if you weigh before they are digested you may show a gain.
6. Had a low carb day subtracts 3-5 lbs. This has something to do with causing your body to rid yourself of more water, not fat.
7. Too much satlt- Add 4-5 lbs.
8. You're sick-Subtract up to 5 lbs. You get dehydrated when you're sick.
9. You're constipated-add 2-6 lbs.
10. You had extra caffeine subract up to 2 lbs. its dehydrating and suppresses you're appetite. Weight comes back once you replace the water.
Oh Michele, it never rains for you does it, it pours! I do hope your dad does ok.
We had a fun Christmas. I had a nice turkey breast all picked out, and then new df decided he wanted something with wings and legs, so we ended up with a whole turkey. Whilst I picked the smallest turkey at the market, it still resembled a small emu!
But it was delicious. The only thing was, we were lunching at our vegetarian friends place, so I cooked it at home, then put it in a shopping trolley (you know the lethal weapons grandmas use in crowded shopping centres on saturdays) and wheeled the whole lot half a mile, with the neighbourhood dogs following behind me.
Yesterday we chilled out then went to the football to see FC United of Manchester versus Ramsbottom.
I've been rather unwell in a 'womens' sort of way all Christmas I look pale as a ghost! I got myself a new ipod shuffle yesterday to cheer me up. I couldn't do Boxing day family things I was too ill.
My computer broke Christmas Eve and my bruv mended it Christmas day.
I had M&S mushroom parpadelle for Crimbo dinner. I couldn't be bothered with Christmas food.
Hello Kylie, glad to see you're getting some internet time and not doing too much work today
RSG - I'd love to move over here apart from actually finding a job that I could bear doing and that would keep me in the style to which I have become accustomed After training for so long to qualify as a lawyer I didn't want to give it all up about 6 months from qualification when they moved out here at first, and now I don't think I could face going back to working in a bar - and my Spanish isn't good enough to get a "proper" job.
I had a pottering day today, although my mum's pedometer said we did about 18000 steps, so quite a lot of pottering! I then went out for a run (3 miles again just along the seafront to the other end of town and back), and we're going out for a meal tonight. I think I'll have gnocci in tomato sauce then veggie lasagne. Which is what I always have at this place but it's REALLY good so I don't mind. I may also get a little tipsy (again) because we go there so often and a bottle of something always seems to find its way onto our table from the kitchen, particularly around christmas.
Thank you all for your kind words about my father. He is doing really well thank god.
Awwwww Veggie hope your feeling better this evening.
I have an IPOD Nano I am thrilled I no longer have to plead with my boy to let me use his. Its silver and I love it. My hubby bought it for me as a surprise he had bought me my Estee Lauder gift which I had chosen. But presented me with the Nano and Eden choccies from Thorntons on Christmas morning it was just the lovliest surprise since he isn't big on those these days!!!
Eldest boy got me an Oasis voucher and choccies and the little fella got me a kittycat Dolls CD.
I've eaten mushroom fried rice and mushroom chowmein and sweet and sour sauce this evening. I'd only had a bag of quavers in the afternoon so consequently I was starved. Its been ages since I had a takeaway and it was delicious.
I shall sleep well tonight now knowing my father is on the mend.
I've been on my new just a few minutes ago. Hannah got me the new SUgarland C.D. as one of my pressies so I have let it rip on the computer while I walked. I've only done 15 minutes and stopped as my tummy was hurting, but I think it's cos I've not let my dinner go down as we had just finished eating. I'll add five mins extra each day, and that way I reckon I'll be on it over an hour at a time before I know it
I took my car in this morning, they told me it would take two hours, one to sort out the window and one for the stereo, and they'd call me. So I had Hannah follow me in her car, and then we went off to a few shops and the mall. Mum got some late Christmas pressies that she's taking home for people and I got a few bargains ready for next year. The mall was horrendous, the amount of people taking things back was ridiculous, shame really, that people don't seem to like what they're given and end up taking it back and changing it I drove around for ages to find a parking spot and then had to glare at someone racing the other way as I went to pull in, as they had an idea that they were going to get it
After two hours I called the car place and it still wasn't ready, so I decided we'd have a little drive around the touristy bit of the town and of course got lost, but eventually found a road I knew...
We all had a lovely time at Christmas and we were all very spoilt. The food was lovley and I ate to much, but am trying to be good now. I have loads of veggies and made a nice bubble and squeak, so it'll be windy here tonight.
Veggie: Hope your women troubles sort out soon.
Michelle, glad to hear your Dad is faring better, keep your chin up lovey and enjoy your nano.
Frus, you're as mad as me going out in the sales, but I've got so good over the past few years, and rather enjoy it.
Helen, sounds like you're having a nice holiday, we planned on a walk on the beach yesterday, but I couldn't find the road to the car park and Mum didn't want to walk on the boardwalk as it had no railings, so we gave it a miss, did pass a tea shop on the way back home and decided to call in, so ended up having a cream tea...it was bloody yummy... I've not had one in over ten years... It was a very Englishy place and by the decor we're thinking the owner is a Scot, but they weren't there, so I'll have to go back and find out more another day.
Tomorrow I have doctors appointments for H and I, and then I shall come home and clean....and walk with Pen and Lew and then do nothing....I feel the need for a rest after the past few days.
We went out for pizza last night I didn't really need THAT on top of all the Christmassy rubbish recently, but I did have a salad... Then was tempted by the white chocolate and cranberry cheesecake - to DIE for! So I guess it's ok!
I'm going to drag DH out for a run this morning, I think it's about time I got off my lazy backside and did something other than read or doze or surf the net!
Tomorrow we're off to Cornwall and I shall be using DH's parents' guest pass for their gym
Michele - I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad - and I'm glad he's on the mend.
Hi Veggie I hope you're feeling better - what horrible timing. You'll just have to go nuts at New Year instead.
Chris - Your Christmas sounds lovely - very peaceful! Go easy on that treadmill, I think they recommend you wait for at least an hour after eating. We had bubble & squeak last night - and we found out that Ellie likes sprouts - especially cold ones - so its been a bit windy round here as well!
Helen - Aren't there any other jobs you could do apart from bar work? 18000 steps! That was a LOT of pottering - its surprising how it all adds up - have a nice time with that wine and gnocci (yum!)
Jen - That cheesecake sounds totally fabulous - have a great time in Cornwall.
Ky - A turkey in a shopping trolley? Sounds like fun!
RSG - I'll have to print off that list and read it every time the scales go the wrong way for me.
Phew - thank goodness thats over for another year. I've certainly been put off of ever having another Boxing Day bash which involves family AND friends - and next time I'm going to do a little more research in to whose been invited. This year there were about half a dozen long distance relatives turned up who I've never met before and among them was a pair of the most unpleasant people I've ever met! Opinionated, arrogant, rude... and worse.... THEY DIDN'T LIKE DOGS! (If you don't like dogs then why go to a household that has got three big 'uns??)
The people that stayed over (including the unpleasant couple) were rudely awakened at 6.30am by some idiot making themselves a cuppa and 'accidentally' leaving the door to the dogs' room open. Ellie is very good at waking people up, especially when they are sleeping on the floor. Anyway, the last of them had gone by mid morning and it took another 4 hours to put the house back to rights.
The vegan relatives turned out not to be vegan any more - but the food I cooked for them was yummy and it was the first to disappear, which was nice.
I've eaten and drunk FAR too much over the last few days - all my waistbands feel a bit snug and I had very bad tummy ache and indigestion yesterday so today I'm having a fruit and veg only day which I'm hoping will sort me out. I had a mug of hot water with slice of lemon first thing, a dish of blueberries, raspberries and chopped pear for breakfast, big green salad with an avocado and grapes for lunch and I've planned a baked sweet potato with lots of steamed spinach and char-grilled aubergine/courgette/peppers for dinner, then fresh pineapple for supper. Water or herb/fruit teas for drinks. Fruit for snacks if I need them. Nothing with caffeine in. I might do the same again on 2nd January to kick start getting back to normal eating.
