Chris, the table is temporarily against a south facing wall so it was just warm enough to sit out there for 10-15 mins. I've got the heating turned off and the windows all open - lovely to give the house an airing at this time of the year. Its all very nice but a bit worrying - there is no way I should be able to do that in February. Since I've lived up here January and February have ALWAYS been bitterly cold.
Helen - Yes, it was warm here yesterday as well - DH and I had a coffee outside in the park on the way home from yesterday's walk (there's a lovely cafe there) - which is what gave me the idea for drinking my coffee outside this morning. I hope your Dad is okay - is there any way you can get more details.... and I hope you knee and hip feel better quickly.
The latest update seems to be that he's back in the hotel room and has had a special meal sent up for lunch (they're all inclusive, and I think the doctor might be in or working closely with the hotel), then has to go back to the doctor at 7. It's apparently an existing sinus problem which has been aggravated by pressure from diving, but I'm not sure why it was aggravated there and not normally, unless he's going deeper when he dives for pleasure than he does with students.
I've just been for a nice walk as it's vaguely warm out there. I have a rule that there are certain treats I can have only if I walk over to the other side of town to buy them (one at a time). I thought it was a nice excuse to get out there today.
No... wensleydale is a bit girlie. I like pongy cheese - preferably blue - but Stinking Bishop was okay - except that its mailorder and how was I supposed to know the postman hates cheese.
I like goats cheese to cook with - I get it locally and the dogs get to bark at the cute goats when we go to buy it.
White stilton with cranberries is - I used to be able to eat a whole slab of that without any problem whatsoever - I think it was that sweet edge to it. Particularly nice crumbled over pasta.....
Basically I just like cheese.... .... except any cheese which is orange coloured (don't mind if its got an orange rind).
Have you read the Paul McKenna book "I can make you thin"? It's got a good visualisation technique for getting rid of cravings. I think it's worked for me and chocolate cake See if you can get it out of the library or cheap off the netty.
The only time I get cravings for it is when I've got some in the fridge. So - you are probably saying to yourself 'silly c*w, why doesn't she just stop buying it, then' - and I did for a while but DH loves it as well and we're worried about his weight because he keeps losing it when he doesn't need to - so its not fair on him to stop buying it completely.
He's doing the shopping next week - on his own. Last time I let him loose in a supermarket on his own the bill came to just over £200! I offered to get it delivered but, no, he wants to go to a proper supermarket *tut* I think part of it is that he wants to go try out lots of different types of cheese at the deli counter until he finds one he likes which is either orange or rubbery - I don't like rubbery cheeses either. If we're really lucky he'll find one which is orange AND rubbery.
Running curry was good I'm absolutely stuffed, and I'm sure I ate far more than I needed to - but it really hit home how many calories I used to get through in alcohol. I drove over there and was only drinking water, but I saw how much lager the others were drinking (and knew I'd have been keeping pace with them if I'd been drinking) and was shocked at how many extra calories I used to drink. I don't even like lager that much, but I'd still have been drinking it .
My knee and hip seem to have recovered, so I will probably run tomorrow. I've got an alarm maintenance visit at lunchtime and I've been pondering how I'm going to get back home (I don't want to drive in and park in the morning because the car parks charge the full day rate no matter what time you leave, and the buses are hit and miss) and worked out that the quickest way home would be to run, then I could shower before going back and pick my stuff back up before coming home from a second time. It's dress down day, so I could even just wear lycra all morning in readiness
Helen, glad to hear that your Dad is doing better. Well done on the run and the curry and the non larger.
I've thoroughly enjoyed my walk on the beach with Hannah, Pen and Lew this morning. It was cold and snowing lightly but wonderful. The beach I went to has a boardwalk ( six foot wide planks with no hand rail across a aby bog type water deal) Hannah didn't like walking across it because of no hand rails, and Dave has said the same... and I couldn't even get Mum near it when we went. It's very cute as people have paid to have their names written on a plank, so you can read as you walk.
The back of the car is now covered in sand, even though there's a blanket in there, I wonder if I can talk one of the kids into hoovering it out at the weekend
I was tempted on the way home to stop in the little tea shop Mum and I visited and have a cream tea with Hannah, but we had the dogs and they wouldn't have been happy waiting in the car, so we chose Subway for lunch instead and brought them home to eat.
Ok, time to think about dinner... hope you've all had a lovely day, see you all tomorrow.
