I've been having awful pains in my legs the past week or so whenever I run. The pain seems concentrated in my calves and down towards my heel. It was so bad this morning I could only manage 17 minutes before I had to stop and use the elliptical. I've been using the treadmill for almost two years now and this is the first time I've experienced anything like this. I did buy new running shoes a few weeks ago and for the first couple weeks had no pain at all. They have good cushioning and support. The pains started after I did a 4 mile road run. I hope I haven't hurt myself.
I'm going to have to use the elliptical for a bit I think until they feel better, I will miss the running .
I'm hoping my new swimsuit arrives today, if so I'm going to swim in the gym pool tomorrow. The pool is usually very busy but this month it's been pretty empty when I arrive to the gym so I thought I'd give something different a try.
I'm dying from boot camp, my legs are soooo tired, but that class is awesome, I sweat so much.
Lynne- I wonder if those are shin splints? Not sure what they are but I know they are common for runners.
Michelle-I do have a busy social life, hinders the weight loss sometimes but it's nice, have fun at your party Friday, vodka is often my drink of choice. I have a surprise 40th for one of my friends on Saturday, he has no idea so that should be fun. I swear I have a 40th party every month this year.
Chris-Frigid the next few days, I bet it will be windy on the cape, stay inside if you can
G'morning! Cold and sunny again - I love crunching along on the frosty grass and leaves when I go for my daily walk and its so much easier when the boggy bits are frozen. Once the sun came up it was beautiful - the Moor looked like someone had sprinkled icing sugar all over and it was twinkling in the sun - we stayed out for over 3 hours.
Lynne - seems weird to have the pain in BOTH legs if its something you did to yourself while you were road running. Could it be some kind of nutritional deficiency?? I know lack of salt can cause muscle cramps and I was in AGONY with cramps at night when I did Atkins. Maybe you could try a full spectrum vit/mineral supplement - see if that helps?
Chris - I know what you mean about men and their clothes. When DH first moved in with me his taste in clothes was awful. I was going through one of my 'you only look cool wearing black' phases so the next day he and I went shopping for loads of stuff for him - all in black, of course. He loved the look - that was 12 years ago and I've long grown out of that phase but he still only feels confident if he's completely decked out in black from top to toe. He's got the same hair colour/style as George Clooney so it looks good on him but he does look like a member of the Mafia or SAS - especially when he's walking George. I keep buying him things in different colours but they just sit in his wardrobe gathering dust.
OOOH Sarah Ann - the man in Black! Does he bring you milk tray????! Get him a balaclava and he will look even more like the SAS or a terrorist!
I should not say anything about style or lack of. At the moment I am doing bag lady chic i.e scruffy but with full make up. I always do make up but my clothes let me down! Just concentrate on the face, please!
How funny that you associated the frost with icing sugar! So do I and fluffy clouds are mashed potato - yes, always thinking of food!
Hi Suzi - Yes, he does bring chocies... but I don't think he's jumped out of a helicopter to deliver them... yet....
I've given up wearing makeup. I seem to be allergic to most kinds nowadays. Even hypoallergenic types can bring my skin up in angry sores within an hour - especially my eye lids. The sad thing is that I used to love wearing makeup.
On the other hand... I spend FAR too much money on clothes.
I'm lucky - Milk Tray doesn't do anything for me at all - but just watch me around a good cheeseboard....
On the subject to cheese.... so much for one of my New Year's Resolutions. I had all good intentions today (fresh start and all that) - I'd even prepared a very pretty chicken & wholemeal pasta salad with a homemade honey/mustard dressing and I mixed in the dressing, looked at it and thought 'yuck - gotta have CHEESE'.
Its all DH's fault, he complained that he's suffering from cheese withdrawal symptoms and that he'll lose even more weight if we keep on having a cheese-free fridge - he's as mad about it as I am - so, being a good wife, I put three large wedges of it in the trolley yesterday
All the time the fridge has been a cheese-free zone I've been okay (mostly) but since we bought this cheese yesterday afternoon I've been thinking about it ALL the time. Last night I managed to overcome the temptation with the thought of it being weigh in day today (and I retain water after eating cheese) but all day today there's been this little cheese-y voice calling my name... enticing me in to the fridge... reminding me how much I love it. And I gave in. Pathetic.
Redsoxgirl and Sarah - not sure if it's shin splints, I googled it and most websites described shin splints as pain at the front of the leg. My pain is in my calves although I do over pronate when I run and people who over pronate are sucseptible to shim splints. Gawd there's always something. Sarah I'm thinking salt deprivation might have something to do with it because I tend to avoid salt in my food. I take a multi vit each day so will look at what's in it and make sure it has mineral supplement too. If not I can always look to change it.
I'm seeing my supervisor at the gym tonight for measurements/body fat/new strength plan so will ask him what he thinks.
Sarah have to tried Clinique? I have terribly sensitive skin/rosacea and Clinique is great on me.
It was freezing here this morning too. Frost on the car had to wait for it to defrost.
I was joking to DH the other day that we should get a mini safe and lock up all the treats we have in the house and I was only allowed into the safe after erm let's just say, doing him a favour
Maybe you should get a cheese safe?
Another vote for Clinique over here - I just like it
