I am not feeling so bad today but I am still a bit down. I guess each day will get better. Paul should be in Sydney in about 7 hours from now. I will be more relaxed when I hear that he has got there safe and sound. Yesterday I just ate and ate ................ stress has a lot to answer for! Today I am back to normal eating so I just have to concentrate on not eating too much. I would love to stop weighing myself so often but it is such a habit now and I feel that it keeps me in control
somehow. Why do I have to be thinking about my weight every single day ........ why can I not accept myself the way I am and not be thinking about how big my boobs and tummy looks in my clothes. Does every woman think like this and do men think that way too or do they just get on with their lives and not give their figures a second thought.
Nita - I sent Taz an e-mail aand I will let you know if I get a reply.
Anyway I found some more funny stuff so here goes ...........

We have women in the military, but they don't put us in the front lines. They don't know if we can fight or if we can kill. I think we can. All the general has to do is walk over to the women and say, "You see the enemy over there? They say you look fat in those uniforms."

See, the problem is that God gives men a brain and a penis, BUT only enough blood to run one at a time.
We'll I went to the doctor on thursday afternoon & he gave me some samples of Celebrex for my knee. He said to take them for 10 days then come see him. If the knee still hurts then i'm off to see a orthopedic(sp). Yesterday I went to see my podtrist. I use to wear orthodics in my shoes, but since I changed jobs, going on 3 years now, the orthodics don't fit in my work shoes. Anyway when I went he took xrays & come to find out, I have a stress fracture on my big toe. He said it's been there for about a month, that is one reason my right foot has been hurting me, also I have a bunion on my right big toe, that he said needs to be corrected. The only way for that is surgery. I told him let's get the orthodics first, then I'll see about the surgery. If i do the surgery I will need to be at home for 3 weeks, up to 6 weeks recovery. Ate way to much this past weekend.
Mitchellez - glad you could drop in.. Keeping you all in my prayers.
Mooz - Hoping you hear from Paul soon. OH, to be young again. I'm sure he is having a great time.
Nita - I saw on the news where you all were having gasoline's lines. I wonder why just there? I think yesteday i paid $ 1.47 a gallon. WTG for getting on your treadmill.
Cat - sorry to hear about your hubby surgery getting postponed. Keeping him in my prayers too...
Mooz -- I can hear what you are saying about the scale. I got mine back out and I believe I was doing better without it. All of a sudden I want to eat everything in sight. I start breakfast out perfect and even lunch and then all of a sudden I just feel frustrated and eating something good makes me feel better. I sort of remember how it was to get off those 50 lbs. and I know it wasn't easy but I was able to do it! You would think I would have gained a better insight about this whole weight problem. It would be so wonderful to just get up each morning and do whatever I felt like doing and eating without feeling guilty. I do believe here in Phoenix it may have something to do with the heat--it's almost impossible to do anything outside for any length of time. I would love to wash my car but it is just too darn hot.
Well we now definitely have a gasoline problem in Arizona because a pipeline broke which brought our gas into the state. I was lucky today because I found a station that was very well organized and it only took me 45 min. to get gas. I paid $1.93 and I saw another station charging $2.29. It sure has cut down on my getting out and doing things. The Gov. said it could be one, two weeks or longer before things get back to normal.
I still am very happy we have this site where we can go and get rid of our guilty feelings. I promise tomorrow is going to be another day and perhaps I will be more upbeat!
1day--could be if your feet are imbalanced without the orthotics, that could stress your knee. I found with my knees, the Celebrex didn't work any better than the Tylenol, and it bothered my stomach. Maybe I shouldn't mention that. Hope it works for you.
Not a bad day at work--couple of new things. Better take my walk before it gets too dark, though. DH and DS were both home all day today, so surely they must have walked the dogs, haven't they?
Cat - That is what I was wondering about my knee. I always heard if you pronate your feet, your also moving the bone that goes up your leg that eventually gets to your knee. I need to ask about that. Oh, yesterday I was so nausated after I took my pill. I took a zantac this morning, & I just took my pill today. I know your suppose to take them in the morning, but I need to take mine with food & its just easier at lunch, so we'll see if I get nausated again.
Nita - I guess I didn't realize a pipeline had broken in your state. I guess I remember seeing in the news where a pipeline in Iraq had blow up, & I was thinking that is what caused your high prices for gas.
For me i'm still somewhat doing good on food. It's just no exercise right now.
Thin, Mooz, Mitchellez, Hal, Mej, Chacha - Hope you all are having a great day!... Hope I didn't miss anyone!
Just a very quick check in to say Hi to all. i am at my desk in school putting off some things i should be doing! I have put the whole business off long enough so have to put in some time the next few days.
Patty - hope you find the cause of your foot/knee problems. sounds like it may be more serious than you thought.
Nita - Ugh - I would be impatient waiting at all for gas!
Mooz - i am feeling bad Because dd moved to an apt. again - i can imagine what you are going through!
Michellez - hang in there. Good thoughts for your business.
Cat - I hear you on the heat - we have had high temps and WAY high dewpoints since last Friday - with no air at home, I am sick of it. Everything is always damp/sweaty!
Ok = back to work for me. Will try to check in tomorrow.
Hi Chicks~~
Back from the lake where it was many degrees cooler and most of the time you get a good breeze off the water. It is sooo hot and sticky here, but this is the last of it. It's been storming on & off since noon or so. Then they promise it will usher in some cooler temps and alot less humidity. Hope they've got that right.
Saw alot of great blue herons and a mature bald eagle, but my camera did not do them justice. Sometimes i need a big zoom lens with the stuff i want to take pics of. But if it's too bulky i won't carry it around either! can't win.
I am weighing in tomorrow morning cause i think i might be down 1 #. Clothes feel looser and my portions and not snacking have been the way for some time now. Hope i see the results
Well, i will catch up with all of you again tomorrow.
Have a great evening. thinlizzie
I do hope everyone is taking it easy during these dog daze of summer. It is finally hot here, like it traditionally is. Since we have experienced a cooler summer, it feels hot, hot, hot...!!!
Hey, if you guys hear from Taz, I wanna hear about it. Tell her to come back. Us Adkins follwers need her strong will, positively do it or die attitude, and are looking for her book of poetry!
School has been in session exactly 2 weeks today, and trust me on this it feels as if it has been 2 MONTHS. Oh my gosh... I love all of my classes, and all is going very well, but Lord and God above give me the strength. Today was an 11 hour day. This is pretty traditional, and it leaves little left for other things like posting here. I do enjoy this site so very much, and do know will do my VERY best to post a few times a week.
Mooz: Loved your last few postings. I sent the Celebrity Quotes to some friends and they loved them too. I shall share with you, I walked into my classroom yesterday via the preschool which is attached to my classroom. We have the dark double view windows and I had a peak at my full stomach as I pulled the door open. Let's just say, it completely ruined my day. I teach the freshmen about positive self esteem, and GEEE.... was self talking to myself all morning. It is hard. Ofcourse, I did think I need to exercise more and this would not be such a problem.
THIN: Did I miss anything about your little Robin? Did it go back to the wild?
Mej: Are you having fun yet?
OneDay: I wear Birkenstock shoes 99% of the time. I have bone spurs on both of my heels, and I have NO symptoms now. I highly recommend giving a pair of these a spin. I wear them year around, just wear the clog style in the Winter. I love them, my feet are not sore or tired at the end of 8 hours of standing. That is a major accomplishment.
Nita: I heard about the gas shortage/break on the way home tonight. I guess you guys have a special type of gasoline you use which makes the shortage even more difficult. According to the news you are in for long lines and high prices through the week. Ick, huh?
Michellez: I have a friend that may be interested in doing what your husband is doing here. Let us know your web address so we can all go admire your work!! My friend has substitute taught for years, but does this stuff more and more on the side. He says he stays busy. I am sure it would be a good business. I hope this finds you feeling better, and sustaining... our thoughts and prayers are with you.
CatLover: I saw a clip about a guy that lost a chance at a liver transplant due to the power outage. I hope your husband is feeling better soon. Let us know. How are you?
Well, Adkins is going wonderfully for me. I am down about 15 pounds in 2 months. I am sure it would be more if only I would exercise. I think this is the plan for me.
Hey HalGal~~Been missing you. Sending good wishes that school dayZ get less hectic! Maybe once everyone settles in.
I am thrilled that you are still doing so well on the Atkins plan. YGG!! on the 15# gone in 2 months! that is terrific!!
I'd say it's pretty hard to fit exercise into any kind of an 11 hour work day! Wish the schools could set this into their normal day...letting everyone who wishes do a workout--and making it possible right there at the school. Would help with the long day of classes too, to have some "body" workout--Not just brain work!
The robin is out on it's own now. Doesn't need to check in with me any longer. Well, hasn't for about 2 weeks now. and that must mean it found some other "pals" that are really robins!!
So i am very happy for it. The last few things my mom noticed was one day about 1 1/2 wks ago a robin landed on her deck railing, hollered a bit and then flew off. Then shortly after that she was out picking a few wild raspberries right at the edge of their mowed lawn and a robin was back and forth in the patch with her. We think it was "our" bird. That was one of his fave foods, those wild berries. So i think i did accomplish my feat. At least i hope he is well. Thinking positive thoughts and hoping that perhaps next spring he will just come to greet one of us as he arrives from wintering away. Then i will really know i did it!!
Just a quick "hello" to let you know yesterday after watching the view where they had Dr. Adkins, Suzanne Sommers and Richard Simmons on, I got motivated to get back to reality and stop eating comfort foods. They had another doctor but I don't remember his name. Also I believe part of my problem was worrying about my sister in OH so I gave her a call yesterday. When I went bowling one of my friends said to stop worrying because that doesn't help anything.
HalGal -- You will happy to know I opted to try Adkins again because that is the program you can eat celery with real cream cheese for a snack if you get hungry. I also made some sugar free jello and even took the time to whip up some whipping cream--that sure is a great treat. This morning I had my DH take down my salad spinner and washed lettuce, zukkini and red pepper and put this all into a plastic bag so my salads will almost be ready to eat. I will just add tomato and a little shredded cheese. The best part on Adkins is that you can add real dressing to your salads. The only thing I will be missing is my fruit but I am sure I can survive without it for two weeks. I am making a concerted effort to drink more water.
Richard Simmons is always a treat to watch. He surely motivates you and his theory is that is how we think about ourselves that really gets us on the right track. Remember, when you look at yourself in the mirror each morning, it is important to tell yourself you are most definitely worth it.
To all of you ladies who may be having a difficult time--I am right there with you and the only words of wisdom I can give are--the journey may be difficult at this time, but the end of the journey will be well worth your while!
Just a quick note, day 3 of my meds... haven't really noticed a difference in my leg or foot. I guess I could say my big toe is feeling better but I haven't walked all week, so it is from not walking or the meds.
Mej - Oh, no a/c. I know there is no way I could go without that.
Hal - - WTG on your weight loss. 15 lbs in two months... , I am going to be out shopping this weekend, I will try to find them. thanks for the info.
Nita - Have you tried the south beach diet? I heard it was very
similar to the Adkins.
Good Morning Chicks. Friday - YAY!! and I had to do some extra hours this week so I am now off all of next week YAY!! Monday and Tuesday we have The Auld Lammas Fair where thousands of people descend upon out town! My father-in-law lets us have use of one of his fields to open up a carpark as do lots of others. So most of both days will be spent around that. Ihe linedancers are also doing a demonstration for 2 hours on both days. I will not be able to get on the Monday as that is our busiest day with it also being a Bank Holiday. I should be able to dance a bit on the Tuesday. By the end of Tuesday I am usually exhausted but if the weather is good and we get a good number of cars then it is worth it. There are usually about 6 of us working - the men are there most of the day but us girls do the collecting of the money and we take turns at it so at least we get a break.
Paul is in Australia - I have had 2 text messages from him but no e-mails yet so I have not heard that much about it. He is staying in a house with some of his friends from here and Bondi Beach is part of the address - sounds lovely.
I am not thinking too much about diet but I am trying to eat healthy and getting some form of exercise in. I am fed up with this constant dieting and then not dieting Life is too short ...... I want to get into good habits and be able to enjoy whatever food I eat, and whatever exercise I do.
Patty - I hope your leg and foot mend soon. It ismiserable when you cannot go for a walk.
Nita - I hope the Atkins plan works for you.
Thin - it is good that the robin is independent of you and living its own life ..... all thanks to you!
Halgal - WOW an 11 hour day and I thought my 7 hour day this week was long!!
Mej - is your daughter far from you?
Catlover - I hope either your DH or DS walked the dogs and that you were not disappointed.
Michelle - that sounds like a good business your DH is working on as I know that around here it is nearly impossible to get someone who can sort out computers.
To anyone I have missed have a great day.
Health TipsHow To Lose Weight And Maintain Energy
If you have excess body fat that you want to lose, you must understand that diets don't work! In order to lose weight healthfully and successfully keep it off, you should look at your eating. After all, eating contributes to weight problems...particularly the over-eating that commonly occurs after blowing a strict diet.Strict diets teach you willpower. Strict diets leave you feeling deprived of one of life's pleasures - food. Rather than diet, you should learn how to healthfully eat diet portions of any food that you currently enjoy and would like to eat throughout the rest of your life. Healthful eating offers more long-term success than crash dieting. Healthful eating also ensures adequate vitamins, minerals, protein and carbohydrates--the nutrients you need to exercise at your best. The following eating tips can help you successfully lose weight plus have energy to train hard and exercise at your best. Expect to gradually lose weight at a realistic rate of one-half to three pounds per week depending on your body size and total amount of fat you have to lose.
Twelve Steps for Successful Weight Reduction
#1 Write down what you typically eat in a day, then evaluate your meal patterns and eating habits. Do you nibble all afternoon? Devour huge dinners? Munch-out at night? If you eat very few calories during the day but then over-eat at night, experiment with eating a bigger breakfast, lunch and a planned afternoon snack. Then you will be less hungry at night and better able to eat a smaller dinner.By giving yourself permission to eat more calories during the day, you will not only have more energy to exercise, you will also prevent yourself from getting too hungry. Generally speaking, once people are ravenously hungry, they don't care about what they eat nor how much and can too easily over-eat.
#2 If you over-eat when you are stressed, nervous or lonely, remember that no amount of food will satisfy you. You really need a hug and human comforting. Food is only fuel. It will not resolve your problems.
#3 To lose weight appropriately, you should know your calorie budget. To determine the number of calories for your reduction diet, you first need to estimate your maintenance calories:· Multiply your desired weight by 10 to determine your resting metabolic rate (the amount of calories you need to simply lay in bed all day and breathe). For example, if your target weight is 120 pounds, your resting metabolic rate is about 1,200 calories. You burn off these calories even if your are injured or taking a rest day from exercise.· Add another third to half of that number for your general daily activity excluding your specific training or exercise program. If your are mostly sitting, studying, or working at a desk, you need fewer calories than if you are active during the day (i.e. going up and down stairs, walking around, doing errands). For examply, a 120 pound mother with 2 children is quite active and burns approximately: 1,200 calories (resting metabolism) + 600 calories (general activity) = 1,800 calories (without exercise).· Next, add on calories burned off during your exercise program.
Calories You may burn more calories or fewer calories, depending on many factors unique to your body. For example, fidgeters need more calories than mellow folks! A registered dietitian can help you more accurately determine your actual energy needs.
#4 Subtract 20% of your maintenance calories to determine an appropriate calorie target for weight loss. For example, if you maintain your weight on about 2,000 calories, you should plan to lose weight on about 1,600 calories. Note that individuals of a more petite body structure will subtract fewer calories than average sized individuals. If you cut back more than 20%, you will likely become ravenously hungry and put yourself at high risk of blowing your diet.
#5 Organize your eating into a balanced plan. For example, divide your 1,600 calorie diet into three meals plus snacks, such as: breakfast - 500 calories; lunch - 500 calories; afternoon snack - 100 calories; dinner - 500 calories. By eating the majority of your calories during the day, you will have energy to exercise at your best. You will also be able to (easily) "diet" at night because you will be less hungry.Remember: you will not gain weight by eating a substantial breakfast or lunch. You will gain weight, owever, if you skimp on these meals, get too hungry and then over-eat during the evening!
#6 Eat slowly. Over-weight people tend to eat faster than their normal-weight counterparts. Your brain needs about 20 minutes to receive the signal that you have eaten your fill. No matter how much you consume during these twenty minutes, the satiety signal won't move any faster. Hence, you should try to pace your eating. Practice chewing slowly, putting down the fork between bites rather than eating non-stop, and tasting and savouring the food.
#7 Once a week, relax and enjoy a piece of birthday cake, a special Sunday breakfast or a planned treat. This will give you incentive to maintain your reducing program when tempted at other times. When enjoying this treat, be sure to eat it slowly to fully enjoy the taste. After all, the best part about food is the taste.
#8 Keep away from food sources that tempt you. For example, read the newspaper in the living room rather than the kitchen. Avoid jogging past the bakery. Stand away from the buffet table at a party. By keeping food out of sight, you will be more likely to keep it out of minde -- and out of your mouth!
#9 If you tend to eat because you are bored, stressed, tired or lonely, make a list of ten non-food activities that you can do instead of eating: water the plants, take a bath, call a friend, write letters, go for a walk, go to sleep, etc.. If you eat because you are stressed, take steps to resolve the real problem. Recognize that no amount of food will resolve the stress. Learn how to handle stress and anxiety without over-eating.
#10 Think positive. Every morning before you get out of bed, visualize yourself eating appropriately and acheiving your nutrition goals. This will help you start the day with a positive attitude. Continually remind yourself that you would rather be leaner than over-eat.
#11 Measure success by looking at yourself naked in the mirror. If you see, and pinch, less fat, you have less fat! If you weigh yourself, do so once a week first thing in the morning, after you have gone to the bathroom and before you have eaten. Don't weigh yourself after a workout or at night -- that gives a false weight! Remember that if you are starting an exercise program, you may gain pounds of muscle while you lose pounds of fat. The scale may read the same weight, but your body will be different.
#12 Be proud of your healthy eating patterns and keep reminding yourself that when you eat well, you not only feel better but you also feel better about yourself. Plus, you have enough energy to exercise and enjoy life.
Able to adapt
When the world changes, as it constantly does, you can make the most of it. When things don't turn out as expected, that does not have to throw you off course. Because you have the powerful ability to adapt. You can assess the situation, make some adjustments, and continue moving forward no matter what.
Adapting to changing conditions is not a matter of compromising your values, your purpose, your dreams or your goals. Indeed, it is often the ability to adapt that enables you to maintain those values and to reach those goals.
Many things can throw you off course, even with the best of planning. Yet there is always a way to adapt, to adjust, and to keep right on going.
When you find yourself heading in the wrong direction, no matter what the reason may be, it's not the end of the world. Rather than worrying or fretting, complaining or blaming, put your energy into adjusting your approach and get headed back toward where you want to go.
Every change can have a positive outcome when you're willing to adapt and move forward.
Mornin' Chicks~~ Got my 2 mile walk in already and feel pretty energetic cause the temps and humidity did go way down! YAY!!!
MOOZ~~Thanks for all that info you passed along today. Very good tips for healthy weight loss. I cannot report a loss when i stepped on the scale yesterday. But my clothes do feel just a tad looser, so i know i must be doing something right. And i'm not giving up yet! These gained back pounds sure are stubborn tho.
I am not snacking (cept for sugar free ice cream at night 1/4 cup)
and i'm keeping my portions under control, so soon something has to budge. I have a digital scale and it did keep going back and forth between 1# down and the same, so perhaps i've lost 1/2 a #. I will weigh in again in about a week to see for sure!
Yes, Mooz it is hard to live with this on again, off again "diet" we are on. I don't think i can go back to the WW way of writing it all down. Just doesn't seem to help at this point. I am with you on the basic plan. We are important and our bodies and health are EXTREMELY important and we should just remember that before any bites of food. Choose wisely and enjoy what we do eat. Just having that kind of attitude i don't see where we can go wrong!
Glad you have a week off ! That must feel nice. And the fair is here already?? Seems like just yesterday you sent us pics of some of the activities-- but it's been a year! Wow, we have all been together a long time now. Feels so comfortable! I enjoy all the chicks that post on here immensely.
Good that you have alot of help for the busy days of the fair. And line-dancing too! YGG~~ that will wear you out for sure. Do take care. Hope the weather is good and lots of people turn out to enjoy it.
~~~CATLOVER~~~ yes, i too hope the DH &/or DS walked the dogs that day. Guys do need reminders for most everything, don't they?? Why they won't be more organized like the women of the world i will never know! Cause they have us i suppose!
~~~1DAY~~That does sound frustrating that you can't really tell if the knee is better from laying off the walking or from the drug now. I tell ya, things are sure tough for us lately. Will you be able to try walking soon to find out? What does doc think now?
~~~MICHELLEZ~~let us know the web addy so we can see your hard work setting up DH's page. I sure hope things are looking up over there. We do miss your posts. How are your doggies doing?
I have sooo many hummingbirds now, they are constantly fighting over the nectar feeders. I'd say they all had pretty good size broods this year. Must be about 8 at a time buzzing around. Very fun to watch, but your neck gets sore from swiveling about. Those birds fly sooo fast! I'd love to get some more good pics, but they don't stop for long.
Got to go now, and i will try to post again tomorrow. Everyone stay strong and focused. Post when you can!
Good Mornin' Chickies~~
Hope everyone is having a grand Saturday morning.
I slept in cause they had a planned power outage from 6 to 8 am ...course i usually sleep in anyway! now that i'm retired
I find that when i get up on my own(NO alarm clock) i just plain feel better for the whole day! I am very grateful for this.
I am going to go and walk soon before the sun gets up any higher. Yesterday i got the 2 miles in and that was it. But i did work around the garden a bit. Got tons of mosquito bites. I did not even realise they'd be out ,but there they were! Darn things.
Have salmon thawing for a healthy dinner tonite. I might make a coleslaw and just share a baked spud w/DH. Try to cut those starches a bit. But it seems nothing takes the place of a good potatoe! I am soooo bad! well, sweet potato helps, but i think i'm out now.
No weight change yet, but with TOM right around the corner it is not suprising. That water retention does occur then.
Well I had to stop taking the Celebrex. I noticed that my eyes were feeling very heavy & in the morning I was having a hard time wakeing up. I called the doc & he said I was probably having a allergic reaction, So i stopped taking the meds on friday. We'll I pain in my right toe is back & my left knee is somewhat bothering me, so I guess the meds were helping. He gave me something else to take but I havne't taken it yet.
Mooz - I hope you enjoy your time off next week. Sounds like you'll have a busy week.
