Okay, so I am doing IF. Should I also be calorie counting? I wasn't counting calories I was just doing the 12 to 6 pm eating window. I am basically eating whatever I want and drinking a lot of water.
I am trying to figure how to add exercise. I was thinking of doing morning exercise instead of afternoon/evening. I wanted to have an empty stomach but figured if I did morning I would need to open my window early since I would need a protein meal within an hour of working out. Or is this one of those diet myths.

See, I always over think any new woe plan. lol.
You're probably going to be hungry after working out. Protein does work to heal your muscles, so if you eat protein right after, it'll help you heal up faster. Of course, that's assuming you're lifting. If you're just doing cardio, it might not be as relevant.
If you open your window early, why not just close it earlier, too?

Depends on what kind of exercise you are talking about. Per the leansgains.com website, if you are doing light to moderate cardio you don't need to eat. You can do it fasted with no worries. If you are lifting heavy weights, leangains.com recommends taking BCAA's before, during, and after the workout until your eating window opens.
If you want to lose weight, calories do matter regardless of when you eat.
xxkaleidoscopic: I didn't want to open my window to early, because then I would miss eating dinner with my family.
KTucke7: Are BCAA's found in protein shakes that you make with whey protein? I will be lifting weights following a 15 minute dvd. Does the duration of the weight lifting matter, I mean I am not going to be doing 45 minutes of lifting.
@Imannott There are BCAA's in whey. In my personal opinion, if you aren't lifting heavy weights I wouldn't worry about BCAA's or whey. I think it is the weight more than the duration that is important. I.e. I have ten pound hand weights here at work that I do stuff with on breaks and lunch (since I don't eat). That's fine. If I was doing 200# deadlifts I'd need to get some BCAA's.
ok, I tested this. I got on my rebounder and did some cardio with some yoga type stuff. airplanes, and planks and some ab work--and I got done and drank a protein shake. Myofusion.
GROSS!!! it has stupid splenda in it. I even mixed it with a 1/4 scoop of my breakfast shake which i like...and omg...talk about head rush! I have that jittery feeling like I just drank 2 cups of coffee. There is that elusive sugar rush from working my cells to be less insulin resistant. I know it is not the chocolate because I never get a rush from chocolate anymore...
hopefully I can start the LONG recovery to get my abdominal muscles back. I have always had great abs--just alot of fluff hiding them...I hate having weak abs...but they must repair from the surgery some time right? Ab work freaking killed me!
I've recently gotten back to doing IF. I'm ready to finally get to goal and stay there. I really really like IF for multiple reasons, I guess if you're here you know them- mostly, that it makes life a lot easier.
Anyway, I signed up to start receiving Brad Pilon's newsletter and after a few days he offers a trial of 30 days of his ebook for $5. I wanted to post this here in case anyone was thinking about buying it because that would be the way to go about it.
His newsletter is really good too, he knows his stuff. A lot of it is over my head lol but it's still interesting.

Martin says BCAA supplementation is not necessary but it is optimal for those people following his leangains protocol attempting to gain muscle slowly while losing fat. This protocol also involves eating over maintinence on workout days.
If you're just attempting to maintain your muscle while dieting I wouldn't worry about it unless you're going to workout very early in the morning with heavy weights and even then it probably depends a lot on your training level where novice lifters probably don't need to worry about it. However if you're an intermediate/advanced female lifter I doubt you're reading this anyways.
I'm fairly new to 3FC & IF. I only started IF'ing yesterday. It just felt so easy AND I lost a pound! I have decided that fasting for 16 hours with an eating window of 8 hours is good for me. I fast 8pm - noon and eat noon - 8pm while also tracking carbs and watching calories Carbs are definitely my downfall. I just keep an eye on calories rather than track them. I"m looking forward to this becoming my new eating lifestyle!
well, i went to town, which included standing in the heat for 2 hours--no a/c at my friend's business sweating like crazy, breast feeding, then shopping for 5 hours, which included lifting heavy objects, calculating the cost of each product and savings, breastfeeding in a fitting room, holding a baby with 1 arm while pushing a shopping cart loaded with heavy objects and chasing my preteen around the store...and I didn't pass out or get hypoglycemic. I only had one cup of chai with a tsp of sugar, and a tsp of milk for food. Of course when I finally got done--I was STARVING. I ate 3 sonic jr. deluxe burgers from 6pm to 11pm, and 1/3 banana split, a side of tater tots, a cherry limeade, and ramen with eggs mixed in it at midnight..and I still was 2 lbs down on the scale. So 7 hours on my feet running around doing IF-no negative effects.
@shalyn Welcome. I find IFing to be great. It fits in with the way I eat normally.
@jendiet thanks for sharing. I was trying to explain this to my sister and she just didn't get it, she kept saying but if you don't eat you are going to pass out. I have never passed out from not eating.
I have incorporated the exchange system into my IF plan to make sure I am getting at least a baseline of 1400 calories a day. I started that today. Can't wait to weigh on next Monday to see how that has helped with weight loss.
I only just discovered IF and it was entirely by accident. I was ill a couple of weeks ago and couldn't eat anything for 48h. Well I weighed myself after that period of time and had somehow lost around 5lbs(?!). Of course I then went back to my usual eating habits and within 3 days it was back on. But it made me think.
I've since been home for a week (first time in 5 months) and as it was my mum's birthday I've been going out for lunch, dinner, theatre, meeting up with friends for breakfast... Needless to say I haven't been worrying about what I was eating! But I felt really wrong most of the time I was there, especially after eating and I think all my weeks of unhealthy food has finally caught up with me. I work as a waitress in a chain of pubs and recently I've been constantly picking at chips, onion rings, ice cream and plain JUNK.
So I went food shopping this morning and stocked my fridge with salmon, chicken, white fish and TONS of fruit and veggies. Then I remembered about the few days I was ill and started to wonder about fasting. I'd read something about it a few months ago and had a look on here and lo and behold I found this thread! (btw, I've been reading it for HOURS but couldnt go any further after page 16...you guys are CHATTY! haha)
So yeah. First day of fasting tomorrow. See how it goes!
