I'm just checking in! I haven't posted in this thread for a while. I got pretty lax with my IF/CC combo, and as a result, gained a bit.

My weight gain is not from not fasting during the day, but 1)not stopping my eating at night. So I'd have a bowl of cereal or something at night when I felt hungry after my eating window, which led me to be hungry almost every night. 2)I also stopped being as strict with counting calories during my eating window, and I 3)stopped eating as much protein/eating as cleanly, which led me to be hungry because I was eating more calories with less food. I'd rationalize it, "OH I can have a giant bowl of ice cream 3 nights in a row because I fast during the day" blah blah......

So we're talking about a 5-6 lbs. weight gain from my low. I was up to 139 this morning, but I'm bloated from TOM. I need to buckle down, count calories and stop within my eating window. So I'm refocusing and keeping all these 3 factors in mind I know that doesn't sound like a lot to lose, but at my weight, I already have to keep my cals pretty low to maintain, so it will take me at least 2-3 months of hard focus to lose it.

Good luck to everyone starting out! IF really is a great tool to use, but it still does take dedication and focus

ok, I have been doing great losing every day as a matter of fact. Then it just stopped. What happened. I adjusted my eating window to earlier in the day. I have also thrown in jogging on my rebounder while fasting. The scale went up from 191 to 195, and is slowly coming back down.

why do you think that happened.

Hi Jendiet.

I'm an on/off again intermittent faster. (Currently more off, due to pregnancy) ...Although I do still only eat when hungry.

Personally I would say, if your diet and the amount/type of food you've been consuming has stayed the same. Your body has become used to how much you're providing it with.

I really wouldn't worry, just keep doing what you're dong and you'll see the scales move soon enough.

Well, wish me luck, fellow IF-ers, lol. Tomorrow I will try to do a 24-hour fast from dinner tonight to dinner tomorrow. I am mentally gearing myself up b/c I've only done a handful of 18-hour fasts up until now. Breakfast is easy but lunch is gonna be a hard habit to break, so to speak. But I am determined to do it. I'll let you know how I do. *crossing fingers*

Hi everyone,

I have been a lurker on this site for some time now, but only just discovered this thread.

After a huge binge on Sunday, I attempted my first 24 hour fast yesterday. Prior to my unplanned binge I'd eaten very healthily for almost 2 weeks so thought I would attempt a 24 hour fast based upon the romanfitnesssystems.com site.

It was surprisingly a lot easier than I thought it would be. I was a lot more focused at work.. But I did have D-Fine 8 to help me through the day. I had a scoop all up, which works out to about 45 calories. It's normally my pre-workout boost, so used it to maintain energy through the day, and actually supresses hunger too. What are your thoughts on D-Fine 8 during the fasting period?

Mimi123 - Sorry I am just now replying! I have been trying to eat healthy but haven't been eating low carb. I have been exercising 3 times a week (cardio and resistance bands for one hour each session) and have been counting calories (1400-1600 per day).

I had visitors this weekend and although I stuck to my eating window, I definitely ate more than I should. I am going back to counting calories tomorrow!

@misscandy I haven't used D-Fine 8 so don't have any thoughts on that, however, from what I've read if you stay under 50 calories you haven't broken the fast.

weight slowly going back down. I don't think my body got used to anything.. I moved my eating window, and I added in jogging. sigh. I wonder if that is more muscle since the rebounder also is said to build muscle all over.

Good luck fitmom, as long as you stay busy it's not too hard

And thanks FutureFitMom, I noticed we were the same height so I had just wondered how you were getting through. My diet seems similar to yours

Well, I'm a wimp! Plain and simple. Ugh! *fists hair* Due to the damage of the hurricane, my hubby and I spent most of yesterday morning doing an incredible amount of heavy lawn work on an empty stomach. By the time we were done, I was ravenous...so I ate lunch. I was only able to do the 18-hour fast. Hoping for the 24-hr. but my body just wouldn't let me. Maybe I'm expecting too much too soon...

I'm kind of thinking that I have to wait until next week when both my boys are back in school for me to try the full 24-hour fasts - I'll have no distractions when it's just me for most of the day.

I am gearing up for another 18-hr. fast tomorrow. I just finished dinner so no food except water until 12 noon tomorrow. I'm liking these 18-hr. fasts to mini-training sessions in preparation for the big event - 24-hour fasts.

On the scale front, I weighed in at exactly 117 lbs. which was nice after somewhat cheating on Sunday will some Chinese takeout. I figured with my two 18-hour fasts last week that I must have created a calorie deficit of around 850-1000 calories. So, it's been well-worth the effort, thus far.

Will keep everyone posted. But I still can't help feeling like I failed in some weird way. Oh well.

@Mimi123: Thanks...that's what I'm thinking is the key - to keep busy.

Found this thread and decided to join the board!

I've been playing around with IF for a couple months. My weight loss/lifestyle change started about 6 months ago. Started with the Paleo diet, led me to the Primal Blueprint, led me to the Warrior Diet, led me to Eat Stop Eat, and now I'm at something very similar to fast-5 but it's based on the book "Fasting: 18 hours for your God-Given Body".

I liked the 24 hour fast but found I was consuming too much on my non-fast days. Decided to go with a daily fast instead and also decided against the common "skip breakfast" fasting. I love breakfast and feel like it can't hurt to get your fuel at the beginning of the day verses the end right before sleep. Plus, I find that I was way more likely to binge at dinner than breakfast as I don't wake up with any cravings really (even if I go to sleep with them).

So far I love my daily 18 hour fast from 12:30 pm - 6:30 am. This is my 9th consecutive day of not having anything but water after lunch. I am down 4 pounds so far. I don't really count calories when I'm not fasting, but I don't have to worry about overconsuming since like I aid I don't have a desire to binge when I wake up nor at lunch since I had a big breakfast. I try to eat healthy and make sure to get a variety of foods during my 6 hour window, I typically get between 1000 and 1500 calories in the morning. I had planned a cheat day this saturday but when it got here, I didn't feel like cheating. That's a good sign right? I hope to continue this style of fasting and may throw in a 24 hour fast once a week if I hit a wall in the future.

Giving up dinner may be really hard for most people but I have found that it has really helped with my deeper issues of self-control while eating and also with my emotional eating or eating when I'm bored/watching TV. Plus now that I've done it for a few days consistantly, I don't get hunger pangs or anything at night.

Does anyone go with the unconventional method of eating breakfast and lunch, instead of lunch and dinner? (in terms of the daily 18 hour or 19 hour/fast-5). After another week, I may start opening myself up to the occasional weekly dinner with friends and family by switching my hours... once I know I won't be overcompensating at night-time meals.

I love IF and am really glad it has alot of benefits!

Or just water from swelling a bit when you added in more impact exercise.

Thank you so much! It's good to know the calorie maximum is 50.
D-Fine 8 is fabulous.. Delicious (great flavours like Cherry Bomb) and really curbs the cravings a lot!!

I've been following this thread but not really posting, just thought I'd check in. I kind of fell off of any wagon for a while. But I started back up again with calorie counting and IF 10 days ago. I have been going with a 16 hour fast from around 9 or 10 - 5 or 6 daily, although I have not been perfect with this, I try my best but I'm not anal either. I also have decided to do longer fasts on Weds. and Fridays, fasting til noon on Weds and my goal is to try and go until 5 on Fridays, but I've only made it until 3 so far. I'm not super strict about my daily windows but I try to get close, I usually have to brush my teeth early and that really says 'you're done!'

Since I've re-started I'm down just over 4 pounds! I actually like doing the longer day of fasting. It is nice to take a break and be more in tune with my body and mentally it's great to just say no to the 'hunger'. Honestly I'm not any more hungry at 3 then I am when I wake up. It really does just seem to go away! I also really like stopping eating earlier in the night. I'm usually satisfied from dinner and I just drink water, and I get to go to sleep for most of my fast. I like doing the long day fast because then I get to eat more on the other days so it doesn't feel too restrictive.

Good luck to everyone trying IF!! I hope to check back in more regularly

I didn't realize if you consumed a liquid that was less than 50 calories, you haven't broken your fast. I think my green tea is 65 calories though, will have to check.

Anyway, did the 18 hour fast and it was no problem. However, when I weighed myself this morning, I was 1.5 pounds lighter than usual. I am assuming that it's just water weight and when I weigh myself tomorrow on a non-IF day, my weight will be back to normal, right? Anyone? I don't want to lose anymore weight just maintain at this point. If I've really lost, maybe I'll add some carbs back into my diet. This way of eating is so trial and error.
