  • Ive not IF'd much for a few weeks-due to work etc,
done one today (22hours! ) & my god loved it again. I think i needed a break. I feel so clear headed & remotivated.
Ive just eaten , Had a curry (Turkey, but mushrooms instead of rice) & some yoghurts for pud. Feel STUFFED.
Im back on the IF train!
  • Quote: I'm new to IF, although not really 'cuz I have never ever liked brekkie. I remember fighting with my Mom every single morning about it! I'm up everyday at 5 am and I don't get a lunch at work so I am done by 1 pm. I break the fast at 4 pm.
My question is for John who mentioned eating a slow digesting protein in your last meal. Could you give me some examples of some please?
I can save John some work and get started on this there is not a whole lot of clear data on the absorption rates of protein so we are probably looking at the same info. The slowest was raw egg protein at 1.4 grams per hour but thats no fun ( I would only try this with a pasteurized egg white product) cooked egg is 2.9 Casein based protein powder is about 6 g per hour. I like the Casein made into a kinda mouse whipped with skim milk. All the times will be slower if eating with some fibrous veggies.
  • mm, Rick that casein actually sounds good. You know what I hate. every protein product, i've come across uses artificial sweeteners. I hate all of them. i don't even like stevia, but at least stevia doesn't give me a brain attack (severe headache)
  • @Jendiet I found one for you...http://www.gardenoflife.com/Products...4/Default.aspx

That is Garden of Life's raw protein powder. Vegan, no artificial anything. My question is... how does it taste? Sounds pretty awful truthfully
  • omg, that sounds so good!!!! you may have just found my new protein supplement. I appreciate you digging that up. I also love that you can add it to anything! Thank you so much

do you know what I think is REALLY cool. Everyone says how vegans are missing their protein and there is no way to get it. However there is a SCIENTIFICALLy proven formula IN THE BIBLE. that describes exactly what grains to combine to make a complete protein from sprouts. I think that is really awesome.

I used to be vegan, so I was interested in this, and always bought Ezekiel 4:9 bread. I loved the taste, I wonder if this company uses the formula in Ezekiel 4:9 to make their protein powder?
  • @jendiet Could be but I'm not sure. I really like Garden of Life products, though I don't like the prices so much! You can sometimes get reasonable deals on Amazon though. Ezekiel 4:9 bread is good stuff. Unfortunately, I can't get it in my area, and I just can't bring myself to buy the kits they sell on Amazon to make your own! That would probably be the best way to do it, but I haven't tried it yet.
  • i really don't lose sleep over protein. Everything i have read states a good healthy balance of greens, whole grains and beans & legumes will support you with enough protein. There's even protein in my soy milk. i think it's funny how health people get riled up about a vegan but someone who eats a "normal" diet of fast food and processed foods is considered OK (Not to imply you guys are doing this here, i'm just spouting off, lol). It just seems a typical day in a typical diet vs. a typical day in the vegan diet, the vegan is going to get alot more nutrients.
  • oh yeah, the vegan definitely has health on their side much more than a typical American diet. I don't like the hefty prices though, but i'm all about natural foods and health. Before I went nuts, i only ate vegan and organic foods. that was BEFORE i went nuts though. realized I could not sustain that lifestyle--neither could i afford it.
  • almost any diet is healthier that the Typical american diet. When it comes to protien one size not fit all. Most of us guys have a high priority to preserve or even gain lean body mass that puts priority on protein intake. There are a lot of factors to protein requirement but if nothing else keep in mind that protien has a metabolic advantage in that it takes more calories to burn protein than any of the other macro nutrients so if you took the extreme example of eating 1200 Kcal of protien or 1200 Kcal of carbs you would lose the more weight on protein. Protein is also the most satiating macro nutrient in studys.
Geez you would think I was trying to sell a protein supplement lol
  • Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but the fact is that if a vegan is not supplementing vitamin B or is eating a very carefully designed diet their health will suffer once their stores of vitamin B are depleted. Thus - we as a species are not meant to be vegans.
  • oh yeah, i definitely had B vitamin issues. LIKE i said. I went nuts from being a vegan.
  • i was discussing protein. Of course i supplement for b-12 and vitamin D. It's not that hard to pick some up at the drugstore. Anyway, i didn't mean to cause a debate. -fm
  • Just wanting to know how long it took all of you to adjust to IF? Even though I normally don't eat during the day, I'm find I am constantly thinking about food since I started! Is this from all of your experience, something that will pass or get easier? And thanks Rick for replying to my protein question...
  • @badgirl It didn't take me long at all, however, if I don't keep busy I tend to think about food. When I'm at work, I don't think about it at all because I'm busy, but when I'm home during the day for whatever reason, I have to find something to occupy myself or my mind keeps wandering to food!
  • Thanks KTucke7, you have some amazing stats there....

If you don't mind me asking, how long have you been doing IF? I'm 205/185/145. Hoping to be where you are!
