Thanks for the welcome, guys!

I didn't post anywhere here Friday because not only did I not go for any kind of walk (either at the gym or outside) ... when I went to work, I found that somebody had brought in a box of Timmie's doughnuts ... :o On the good side, I ate only one. On the bad side, it was an apple fritter ... and you know the size of those things!

Yesterday I hauled myself outside and walked some 4,000 steps, according to my pedometer. (OK, I did walk to a Timmie's, but I had only a bowl of soup with a bun and some tea ... not a doughnut, cookie or muffin to be seen on my table! :D )

My sympathies to those of you with migraines. The worst I've ever had is barometric-pressure-related sinus pain, and that's bad enough. I have a friend who does suffer from migraines, and how she manages to function around them I do not know.

Daffy, 'Cat' is just fine, LOL. I'm from the Niagara Region in Ontario.

retiredone: you're on! You're all invited to my 110th birthday party! We'll have triple chocolate cake -- we'll deserve it by then! :lol3:

By the way, I have a question: I signed up for a dieting blog, but haven't yet gotten a password. Is it like a siggie -- you have to be a contributing member for a certain length of time before they OK it?

The weather here yesterday was cloudy, chilly and rainy -- my kinda weather. I'm bracing with no enthusiasm at all for the heat and especially the humidity of a typical Niagara summer.

Hope you're all having a good weekend!

Good Morning Crazies . . . :grouphug:

My little corner of AtlanticCa is overcast again . . . but that's okay seems like a good day to tackle the taxes. :p

That's a really great NSV; SEA . . . :high: Keep up the good work.

Oh ROSEBUD . . . . . . So glad to hear about the pup . . . He can't replace the girls, but he can certainly help to ease the current pain.

Hi there CAT . . . I notice that you found out the answer to your blog question all by yourself. ;) I just love being a Moderator around 3FC -- so many people find their own answers :D and that means less work for me.

Speaking of me -- I hve a question for all of you -- I was watching the Canadian Home Shopping Channel first thing this morning and they have now got The Sleep Number Bed. I'm definitely due for a new bed and this sounds very good . . . does anyone have one? . . . or does anyone have strong feelings (either pro or con) about them?

Anyway . . . guess I'd better get about my business. Keep things moving and shaking, gang . . . see you later . . . :carrot:

Daffy29 04-13-2008 11:39 AM

G'day, eh?

I want to say that I hope no one interpreted my '3FC 5K' post as trying to push anyone into something they weren't comfy with...I just thought it was a great idea and wanted to mention it. If I went about it a little awkwardly, I do apologize. That said, Hurrah! to those who have done it/will be doing it later today! The carrot dances for you! :carrot:

Julia: Hope you had good weather for your family 5K

Retired: There's some talk of more frequently than annually, so I suspect there'll be plenty of opportunities.

Chris: One of the best things we can each do for ourselves is find the physical activity(ies) that we enjoy, and pursue them! Looks like inline skating is one of yours, so enjoy! Just be careful...

Seawave: Oh, what a fun NSV! Congrats! With the yucky weather, we decided to take in the Cottage and Big Backyard show at Landsdowne park yesterday. Three hours of solid meandering. The exhibitors were very happy with the weather. As for the walk, yes, PM me and we'll work something out; remind me to PM Mayson once we decide.

Rosebud: Glad to hear there's a 'little one' back in your life..."a going concern"...code for you are going to be very busy LOL :)

Cat: Timmies lists their nutritional content on-line. Apple Fritters are my fave, and I do treat myself to one very occasionally...they're around 300 calories, if memory serves

Meowee: I can't speak specifically to the 'Sleep number bed', but Spouse and I have been sleeping on one of those 14" thick air mattresses ( the ones that are popular as guest and camping beds these days) as our bed at the cottage for the past 6+ months. I weigh considerably more than she, so we keep it pretty firm. I have never gotten up feeling sore or achy, even after a long ten-hour marathon catch-up sleep.

My news:
Spouse is a burgeoning birdwatcher. 2-3 years ago, we saw our first Waxwings here, just a couple, and just for a few days. Later that spring, we came home to find one dead on our front deck. We suspect it hit our front window. We felt horrible. We hadn't seen any here since then.

This morning, I let out the dog and noticed a small flock of tufted-head birds in the neighbour's tree...more Waxwings! They are flittering about, eating the berries off vines in ours and surrounding yards. Spouse has gotten some good photos, and they have come very close and we've had some good observing opportunities. They are such pretty birds.

Some of you may recall we were having some canine escaping problems because of the deep snow. This week, the snow has melted and he hasn't been going visiting, so we thought we were 'in the clear' on this issue. Not quite. Neighbour was in her yard and the dog decided to go visit. She says he cleared her 5.5' high fence with about a foot to spare. "He looked like one of those horses jumping". Lovely. We have a canine athlete. There's still about 2' of snow on our side, and we're hoping that once it is all gone, he won't be able to clear the fence.

This is a sore point for us because our previous dog, a Saint Bernard, developed the skill to climb said fence, and it was quite a challenge to keep him home. He never went far, he would just go visiting in the neighbourhood, because he knew everybody. Looks like we have another 'social butterfly' on our hands!

Last but not least, I will be doing my 5K late this afternoon, since we altered our plans yesterday. Have a great day, everyone!

I can not believe it. It's snowing. :tantrum: Ok, so it's only a few flakes, but COME ON! Grrr.... At least it's supposed to be nice and sunny and warm this week - they're predicting 18 for Thursday!!

Daffy - a Saint Bernard climbing a fence!! Poor fence!

rosebud - I'm glad you got a pup to keep you busy! Losing two furbabies in such a short time is very hard - it's good you found another needy one to help you through

Meowee - I know a couple that bought one of those beds (he has a bad back) - they said it was ok, but really overhyped and they wished they'd just bought a good quality regular bed and saved the cash. I've never looked into this item myself, but my experience with researching other things before buying is that products that claim to have all kinds of bells and whistles are usually either cheaply made or don't live up to their claims. Do they offer a trial period with a full refund if you're not happy?

seawave - congrats on the big pants! It's so nice when you get a reminder like that that your hard work is paying off!

I got another happy shock with my scale this weekend - for two days in a row, my weight has been 179.something! I haven't been in the 170's for over five years!! :carrot::carrot::carrot:

Time to go get more tea - I'm having a hard time getting my day started for some reason :coffee:

I'm envious of those running/jogging/walking the 5k, but my time will come. BTW, I don't feel any pressure when invited to enter a 5k-I'm pleased to get the invite.

I woke to snow falling this morning-great, big, fluffy flakes that covered all the green spots quite thoroughly. It's all melted now but it's not very warm out.

I read all the posts but there are so many people in so many threads that sometimes I'm overwhelmed by making a comment on everyone's topic. Just to let everyone know I'm not ignoring you. (Now, don't you all feel you have to make comment on me not making comment. :D)

Hello CatHouseLady,
Welcome in our little corner.

I signed up for the 5K challenge, and I just finished up. I planned to do 4 miles on Saturday and 4 miles on Sunday.
Yesterday: 2 miles walking the fourleggers, 3.3 miles on treadmill.
Today: 2 miles walking the couchpotatoes, and later I walked the same route by myself (really blustery here today, I had to wear a winter hat). I keep having a problem with my shin, I am really behind with my April exercise, I skip exercise days to let it heal and once I get back on the treadmill I am back to square one.

Chris 04-13-2008 09:29 PM

Hey Everyone

Did my 5k walk/semi-run this morning in 45 minutes. I am really slow on the treadmill. I guess because I really dislike it. I prefer to be outdoors doing something. I can't remember what number I was when I signed up, actually I can't locate the original thread. Oh well!

Daffy, I am pretty careful skating, don't worry. I've been racing for about 5 years now and it's the best!! For me, anyway. I just love skating. In all my years skating, (knock on wood), I've only had 1 major crash that resulted in a broken finger. I wear all the safety gear - helmet, wrist guards & knee pads and I am as careful as I can be. The weather is going to be nice this week so my husband & I plan on skating at least 15k Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday. I'll do 15k each day for sure and he'll probably do 20 or more each day.

Retiredone I so understand what you are saying about being overwhelmed by all the people on the forum in different threads. I, too, cannot possibly post a message to everyone and I also don't mean to ignore anyone. So, to everyone, please do not be offended if I neglect to mention you or comment on your message. I find it really tough as well.

Hope everyone had a good weekend .. back to work tomorrow. I'll check in again in a few days.

Cheers
Chris

Good Morning Crazy Ones . . . :grouphug:

Some people do really well about 'talking' to every single person, every single day . . . I'm not one of them.. . . and I really don't think anyone really expects it -- or, if they do, they are going to be disappointed.

Well, speaking of disappointed, my weight took a little one pound upward 'blip' this morning -- actually it really doesn't bother me anymore -- I know that eventually (as long as I keep doing the good stuff just as much as I possibly can) the scale- will come into line.

I feel worse about the fact that I woke up to SNOW covering the ground this morning. Enough is enough. We are supposed to have sun tomorrow, though. :yay:

Hope everyone has a great moving and shaking day planned . . . see you later.

Daffy29 04-14-2008 08:11 AM

At the risk of being pelted by snowballs thrown by BP, Retired and Meowee...I awakened to glorious sunshine and a clear blue sky. And they're forecasting we'll go from 8 today to 20 by Friday! :cheer2:

Some days I am more chatty than others, and I feel like commenting on everyone's post...other days I don't. We each do what works for us.

Chris, I did my walk/run in 60 minutes on the treadmill, so by my book, you're fast! For walking, I prefer the treadmill: I watch DVD's of my fave series, and it passes the time. If I am jogging, I prefer outdoors.

BP: congrats on the 170's and the time travel! Oh, and GRRRRR Bruins :tantrum:

Have a great day, all!

meowee 04-14-2008 08:21 AM

Thanks DAFFY . . . at least I know where tomorrow's sun is going to come from.

Mayson 04-14-2008 08:38 AM

Happy Monday Everyone! Hope everyone has a great week. Lot's of sun and warm weather coming!!

retiredone 04-14-2008 03:00 PM

Good day chickies. I ran outside today with intermittent snow flurries blurring my vision every now and then. I haven't run outside in several years and the difference is quite noticeable. Potholes, for instance are never an issue when running inside. :D And yappy dogs don't bring the heart to the throat when inside. The snow didn't last long and it wasn't really cold as water is running everywhere. And the dog got bored and went on to his next victim. I love spring-potholes, mud, gravelly roads, dog poo, and fat ladies jogging. :running:

The sun is trying to shine this afternoon, I got great bargains at the grocery store and all is well.

SeaWave 04-14-2008 10:03 PM

Hey Cat  I was born and raised in Niagara! Welcome!

Daffy: I'm a "burgeoning birdwatcher" too! Got the bug way back when we visited the Everglades, and like taking photos, so the two go hand-in-hand. Nice to see them coming back. With regards to the leaping dog, I sympathise. We had a beagle (a beagle!) that could jump a 5 foot fence from a sit. Amazing. We wound up giving him to a farmer who had lots of space for running around.

Bopeep - congrats back! I'm so looking forward to being back in the 170's!

Meowee - we in Ottawa like sharing our sunshine! And it looks like the next couple of weeks are going to be mostly that, with warm weather. I just hope it holds for the Tulip Festival in May!

Ciao bellas!

meowee 04-15-2008 06:24 AM

Today is dawning . . . sunny and mild . . . and supposed to continue that way for the rest of the week . . . :yay: . . . and many thanks, Ontario/Quebec. Your sharing nature is much appreciated.

Well, I'm sitting here drinking hot lemon water -- not bad, but it isn't :coffee2:. I'm going to the lab this morning for bloodwork and wouldn't you know I'd be up too early. Can hardly wait to get there and back . . . I need :coffee:

Hey . . . have a good day each and every one of you . . . see you later.

Daffy29 04-15-2008 09:40 AM

Hey, everybody!

 Thanks for the morning chuckle, Retired.

Meowee, here's hoping you are able to get caffeine into your system soon!

Canine Chronicles, installment 2:
We walk him with a Halti, 'cause he likes to pull. He hates it, and does this rolling/diving/rubbing thing on the ground, trying to get it off. When the snow is deep enough, he actually tries to tunnel through it with his nose!

We took him to the dog park for some off-lead time yesterday afternoon, and decided to take the Halti off so he wouldn't feel he had to roll around on the wet, muddy ground. Of course, he did anyway. In about 10 seconds, we had the wettest, muddiest dog we had ever seen.

On the way out of the park, though, he was nice enough to spend about 5 minutes rolling around on a patch of (relatively) clean snow, so by the time we got him home, he was just wet. We left him tied out front, in the sun, so he could dry off a bit, but he did such a good job, he was still damp at 8 PM.

I can't help but think that this was prompted by the fact that I spent about an hour brushing him on Sunday night. Time well-spent, obviously

ETA: finally got around to uploading an avatar. The canine culprit, of course!

Have a great day, all!
