ROFL! That will be my passtime now that the snow is almost gone from the back yard, playing seek & find with dog poop!:D

Hi there MAYSON . . . :welcome:

betty grrl 04-02-2008 10:39 PM

I hear what you mean about the poop popping up! I tried my best all winter to pick it up~but there's always that little bit that gets covered!

Crazy Winnipeg weather...I went into SUperstore to pick up a few things, then I was going to take my dog to the "off-leash" park. Well, that didn't happen because it started to RAIN!!! The sky looked sooo black I didn't even dare try. Thank goodness my best friend called me up to see if I was up to go to the gym!! I had a really good ache in the side type of workout!!!

Good Morning . . .

Sunny and windy and cold (right now); but the long term forecast says above freezing temps for the next two weeks . . . maybe, just maybe, Spring is finally going to get here? I hope, I hope, I hope.

Later . . . :carrot:

Good Morning My Gorgeous Fellow Canadians - and hello to all those new to the thread!

Just checking in from the West Coast here (am I the lone West Coaster???). Still chilly in the mornings here but the sun is finally back where it belongs! My weight after going up and being stuck for 2 weeks is finally down 4 lbs :carrot: - I'm only 2 lbs from 40 lbs lost and for some reason it feels like a long way to go. I'm not sure if anyone else has experienced this but for about 3 days last week I felt starving - not craving chips or treats type of hunger but ravenous feeling - like I could eat 6 full meals a day and still want more! It was agonizing! I finally figured out that it was smack in the middle of my cycle and I was ovulating. I looked it up on the net and apparently yes - that is a very normal occurance. I guess I never really paid much attention to my cycle before and I always though my cravings were right before my period. So, good to know for next month. My appetite is back to normal (which trust me, is very healthy, I may be named after a bird but don't eat like one!).

Speaking of birds, we put out another feeder and have been watching and listening to all the little spring birds in the yard - wonderful! My two chubby cats perch themselves on the window sill and make that funny beckoning noise. Both are very spoiled and overweight :o so even if they are outside the birds are in no danger as even a half blind bird could see the massive white shape lumbering towards them.

Enjoy your day Canada! :D

Bo Peep: I bought 3 hostas, 3 ferns and 1 climbing hydrangea (yellow). I think I showed great restraint! I am going out again on Saturday to a larger nursery though - still have my list!

Mayson 04-03-2008 10:41 AM

Good morning all!

yes, I think spring has finally sprung!!

It's going to be a whopping 8 degrees and climbing in the upcoming days.

Might be June before all this snow is gone though

Healthy Mama,
Congrats on your weight loss and I envy you the plants - here, in s-w Ontario it will be a while before we can start gardening - until then, I am planning to live vicariously through you.

bopeep 04-03-2008 02:18 PM

Tomato - I have already started my gardening! I have tomato and pepper seedlings up and my basil seedlings are up and growing too. So are my lobelia, salvia, poppies and several others. I have a dozen things out for wintersownig and yesterday I potted up my canna bulbs. Today I'm taking geranium cuttings for rooting. Just because I can't do this outside, doesn't mean I can't still garden :D

And what's this I see on the weather forecast for the weekend? Highs of 12 and 13 and sunny!?! :woohoo:

Healthy mama - I'm so jealous! Our nurseries won't be selling perennials for at least another month! :tantrum: That's more plants than I usually get per visit, but then again, I'm limited to what I can carry home on the public transit (we don't have a car). Sometimes DH will go with me to get plants and then I can get more, or bigger ones, but we're still limited. ;)

I wish we had more interesting birds around, but living downtown it's rare. Last year we did get a pair of cardinals move in to the neighbourhood, and about five or six years ago we had a male Pileated woodpecker hanging around all summer - that was really neat!

 HELLO FROM THE FROZEN NORTH ... even though so much snow fell on Tuesday, we have had lovely sunshine for two days. DH went out and measured our pile in the backyard and it is over 7 feet high, but it will be melting with all this sunshine out there. DH tries to keep up with the doggy doodoos too, but some slip by and he cleans 'em as he sees 'em ~ LOL!

We have lots of lovely birdies here right now; starlings, finches, wrens, pine grosbeaks, chickadees, woodpeckers, bluejays, ravens, and some Whisky Jacks today (gray jays) came for bread only a foot away, so I got some pics. Am just starting to plan my garden for 2008.

I tried to pre-plant seed, but they don't work out as it's too cold and not enuff sun and they start reaching too much. So now I just buy a few tomato plants from the nursery for under $2.00. The rest we grow are short-season veggies like onion sets, carrots, green and yellow beans, peas, potatoes, etc.

:wel3fc: TO ALL THE NEWBIES ... nice to have you join us.

Just having a quiet day doing indoor stuff today; have a great evening ... :hug:ROSEBUD:hug:

bopeep 04-03-2008 08:47 PM

Rosebud - and here I thought we had a lot of snow with close to five feet in our backyard!!! It's down to a couple of feet now.

Did you set your seeds in the window? That seems like a lot of light, but it's not enough usually. I use fluorescent lights for my seed growing.

What's Spring? Hi, I'm Isabella from Central Newfoundland. I suppose we won't see doggie doodoo for another month or two in Central. Well, it's not quite like that but there are mountains of snow everywhere from two huge storms (1 was a blizzard) just before Easter. On a brighter note I had a pair of Downey Woodpeckers visit my front veranda this week. I have a suet cage hanging from the railing and they came to have a picnic. They also helped themselves to something in the tree. I can't believe they found bugs because it's so cold but they were pecking away. I took pictures but they were too far away to see clearly.

Hi ISABELLA . . . . . . You should come down to balmy Nova Scotia for a visit. Although our winter was nasty it was like a walk in the park compared to yours.

Good Morning, Everybody . . .

Just a quick "HI" this morning . . . doctor's appointment . . . then just might take my first stroll on the boardwalk -- it's sunny, relatively windless, and temp is supposed to hit 12 today . . . :yay: . . . but guess what is in the forecst for tomorrow -- yep, the "S" word again.

See you later . . . :carrot:

Hi retiredone,

I know, Mother Nature was not very kind to you this year. I saw pics of the snow Himalayas on TV. I am keeping my fingers crossed that warm weather will make it over to you soon. I enjoyed the first walk of this spring with my dogs yesterday (today, we are back to kinda ugly again).

retiredone 04-04-2008 01:34 PM

I'm looking forward to walking outside again. I don't walk outside in the winter anymore because the ice and my head do not meet well. I had a few falls the last year I taught and decided then that the winter was for indoor sports. :D The sun is shining and the wind is cold but I see puddles of water oozing out of the snow mountains so that's great to see. :carrot:

bopeep 04-04-2008 06:04 PM

I guess I really shouldn't be complaining, since Rosebud and Retiredone have had way more snow than I've had, but I'm going to complain anyway. It's been snowing all day. :censored: It's above freezing, so it's turning into a slushy nasty mess, but it's been falling for five hours so far. The next several days are supposed to be 10 or higher, so it'll all melt, but right now, I'm mighty ticked... :tantrum: I guess that's what's coming your way tomorrow Meowee.

On a good note, I discovered that I can 'run' four miles on my elliptical in an hour!! :woohoo: After just over two months of work, I'm starting to feel like I'm *really* getting somewhere!
