Yeah!!! I wore shoes outside yesterday. Yeah!!! The roads and parking lots are clear enough to leave the old winter boots on the shelf. And with the mild weather the last few days the mountains of snow are receding and grass and pavement is beginning to show. I thought that would never happen. It's dripping and overcast today but not snowing. Everything is dirty, mucky and wet. Yeah!!! SPRING!!! I have plans for walking/jogging up and down the street as soon as it's safe (too much head on ice incidents). Yeah!!!!

Skinny Magee 04-08-2008 10:10 AM

It's supposed to be 14 degrees here today!! YAY! I may do my walk outside instead of the treadmill today.
Happy Sunshiny Day everyone!

JuliaDH 04-08-2008 10:21 AM

Looks like we may get rain this afternoon. I better get all the donation stuff delivered and out of the back of the truck quickly! It will have to be a rainy walk today! Kids got new rubber boots they want to break in!

Hi Gang . . .

Yippee for some serious signs of Spring. We are on our third day of sunshine in a row and the temperature is supposed to be 13 by late-afternoon.

Another yippee for me -- just got back from the dentist and Phase 1 of my Root Canal procedure was totally pain-free. Of course, I'm still frozen. Hopefully it won't get too bad later on. :crossed:

Daffy29 04-08-2008 03:34 PM

Hello fellow 'Crazies'! This thread was busy while I was gone and I seem to have missed out on the 'spring harvest' discussion with my fellow dog owners DRAT! Now, if I could miss out on the harvest entirely, that would be great!

Meowee, hope the tooth is not giving you too much discomfort. I've only had one root canal years ago, and I don't recall it being anything Advil couldn't handle, but I know YMMV.

So, how many Eastern Ontario/Ottawans do we have here now? I think I've counted at least 4...

This morning, when I backed my car out of the driveway, I saw the most South-facing corner of our front lawn, hidden from our view from our drive and door by the 4' snowbank. My tulips and crocuses (crocii?) are 2" tall! :carrot: The poor things are poking through all the yucky stuff left behind on the grass along the side of the street. I'll have to find a few minutes this weekend to rake that corner.

Another sure sign of spring: the playoffs start this week! GO HABS, GO! We are big hockey fans in this house and our team finished first when at the start of the season, everyone predicted they'd end up in the toilet! Of course, we're not very popular with our Senators-supporting neighbours this time of year, but it's all in good fun!

Have a great evening, everyone!

Re: weight scales -- According to my doctor's office, the only ones that are the ones you stand on, with the slider at the top. Unfortunately for me, I find it very motivating to see those numbers go down so I'm still looking for any recommendations! The best approach I've found so far is to weigh myself every morning, and take the week's average. I hate wasting money on something that doesn't do what it's supposed to!

Yes, Spring has sprung -- this week-end is the bottle drive for my son's soccer team! I'm really looking forward to them being able to practice outside, as the club is by one of my favourite walking spots (Green's Creek area, for anyone from Ottawa/Orleans).

:wel3fc: TO ALL THE NEWBIES ~ lots more coming in while I was away (MIA) for a while.

SAD NEWS ~ our other furry baby fell ill on Thursday or Friday and passed away at home on Sunday morning. We were devastated as we had just lost her mother 3 weeks earlier. But she went fast and we are glad she didn't suffer. We have lots of friends and family who are praying and supporting us and we are very grateful for that. With each day that passes our grief will lessen, and our faith in GOD is the rock that is holding us up!

They predicted a snowstorm for today and I'm glad to report that it didn't show. Ours roads are now clear, but the weather was very cold and damp. I went out for a bit to feed the WHISKEY JACKS but the air was bothering my lungs (a residue from that nasty flu I had recently). They say the storm is coming tomorrow but we are praying they will be wrong again, and the sun will return soon.

SEAWAVE ~ I bought a digital that weighed me much higher than the docs scale; so I know the frustration. I don't weigh myself too much becuz I get discouraged if it goes up or doesn't go down. Everyone has to do what works best for them.

Have a great week ... :hug:ROSEBUD:hug:

meowee 04-09-2008 08:37 AM

Oh ROSEBUD . . .

Good Morning Chickies . . . :grouphug:

Another :sunny: day with double digit temperatures -- getting spoiled. Rain in the forecast for tomorrow, though.

Better get moving and shaking :carrot: We are going to do the great mall-crawl today instead of tomorrow because of the weather. See you later, gang.

Daffy29 04-10-2008 06:49 AM

Rosebud, my thoughts are with you. I know how hard it is to lose a furbaby.

There seems to have been lots of discussion of scales lately, here and elsewhere. I was curious about mine, so this morning I stepped on and off several times. It's digital, and gave me a .2 lb increase each time. Needless to say, I won't be doing that again!

We were supposed to get rain yesterday, but it didn't happen. It got windy enough last night to wake me at 3 AM, but this morning is breezy and sunny, with a few dark clouds on the horizon. It's been warm the past few days, and the snow has melted enough that our resident canine can no longer wander out of the yard. :broc:

Have a great day, all

Hi
Nice sunny day here in Ottawa, but supposed to be a crappy weekend. Come on spring!

Tomato 04-10-2008 12:11 PM

Rosebud, so sorry to hear about your furbaby!

I guess we all have a different approach for weighing. I have decided I will weigh myself on the 15th and 30th/31st of each month. I don't know I could take the jumping of the scale results on an everyday basis. So far, I am resisting temptation to touch the scale.
I am quite worried about what my result will be on Tuesday, because my old shin problem started to bother me again so I have been off the treadmill this week. I did use the Gazelle one day and I managed to completely ruin my calf muscles (in just 20 minutes) LOL. Now I limp whenever I get up (I do walk it out after a while). I tried Pilates last night but it is a beginner's level and i find the tape so stupid - they waste too much time by yakking intead of just doing the exercises. I fell bummed, I may have to rethink the "I am not joining a gym" decision.

JuliaDH 04-10-2008 01:21 PM

Help!
I have housework to do but I want to go outside! But the work must be done since I played this morning and hubby is coming home so the place should look like I have not been goofing off LOL.

bopeep 04-10-2008 03:32 PM

rosebud - so sorry to hear about your second furbaby in a month!

This spring weather of the last few days sure has been a rollercoaster! I soooooo needed to see some sun and get outside without my winter boots (Shoes! Yea!!), so I've been mentally on cloud nine, but the allergies have started up again and I've been physically wiped out. I've been sleeping really badly and needing naps and no way have I had any energy to use my elliptical. I finally doubled up on my antihistamines and yesterday I started to feel better, but I feel like I'm half stoned :dizzy: I'll just hold on tight to my elliptical today and hope I don't fall off!

I spent the morning fencing in the back stairs for the upstairs apartment - they have two cats that have just started using my dirt as a litter pan :barf: I just finished cleaning up all the stuff from the neighbourhood kitties that had been able to get into my fenced yard - there was so much snow they could easily hop over the fence, and now that it's mostly melted, they can't get in. Once the snow's completely melted I'll let my two beasts out, and my little one is so territorial that she'll keep the upstairs ones upstairs (those upstairs cats are a big pair of wusses!). Hopefully that'll solve the problem - I don't mind the neighbour's cats coming down, but I'm about to start working in that dirt and I *really* don't like the idea of plunging my hands into s***!

I realized last week that my scale measures me differently if my weight is more on my toes than if my weight is more on my heels! Gah! Oh well, as long as I stand on it in more or less the same way, I can get a decent average.

Has anyone ever used the basic yoga for dummies DVD? I'm thinking of getting it. Yoga is supposed to really help with asthma (all that controlled breathing), but I'm not sure I want to go to a class full of fit yoga nuts and fall over flat on my face - I'm a bit of a klutz :o :D

Rosebud - so sorry to hear of your loss...

I've been stuck inside for three days with my son (who's had a migraine), so going out this morning was a real revelation -- the snow has mostly melted in our front yard! It's south facing, and all our neighbours across the street are jealous, because they still have a couple of feet of snow. :sunny:

Mayson - to share with your crappy week-end, I heard this morning that we might also get 2 cm of wet snow tomorrow. Oh well, at least we're not as bad as some folks who live further north! :D:

Daffy - your scale seems to be a single-use per day item -- don't fight it!
