Good evening Melf and Monet and anyone else who is lurking. The board sure is slow to-day.

I was out most of the day. Grocery shopping and bowling this morning, then out to lunch and to Costco. When I got home I sat down on the sofa with my feet up, watched a bit of tv then fell asleep for about an hour. I did the same thing yesterday too. I usually try to avoid sleeping during the day but have been feeling more tired than usual the last couple of days. I didn't intend eating out again to-day but wanted to go to Costco right after bowling and it was getting late and I was getting too hungry to last until I got home. I went to an Indian buffet which I hadn't been to before and had been wanting to try it out. The food was good but different to the one I usually go to. This was South Indian food. I had a small amount of rice, a couple of small dosas, some chicken and veggie curry. And ended with one piece of sweet stuff with a few grapes. So I don't need to cook dinner tonite, will find something light.

I think I should get dressed and go out to the mall before it closes. Not to buy anything, just to walk around and get some exercise as I didn't get out to walk this morning.

Monet - Glad to hear you were feeling better to-day.

Melf - Way to go on the walking and seeing the scale go down.

Default Good evening

The kiddos and I just finished a quiet dinner...except for the don't look at me that way...uuugh...growl, groan, growl. I don't think they could be quiet if they wanted to be..LOL Today was another good eating day. I tried to take a walk but my little one needed his inhaler in the middle so we ended up calling it until tomorrow. I think the white flowers that bloom on the bushes around here got to him.

((Everybody))

Love,
Crystle

Good morning! I feel even better today. The congestion is almost gone, as is the sore throat. I just finished my espresso with Tom, and am not thinking about what I need to do today. Laura and Justin still don't have schedules worked out, so it looks like Kaeleb is with me most of the day. I was going to go to Water Aerobics, but I think I will pass again. No reason to push it until I am sure I am well. I may go for a walk with him later if I am up to it.

I was pleased that my blood sugar levels were relatively good this morning. Last night I ate a very small portion of just vegetables and meat. I need to sit down and carefully evaluate what I am doing and what needs to be done. I don't want to be put on insulin, so I need to get my butt in gear and do what I have to do to avoid that.

COUNTRY: Sounds like my kids...we used to play the quiet game. The first one to speak had to do the dishes. That usually worked pretty well.

ROSALIE: I love Indian food. I always feel so lost at buffets at Indian restaurants though! I have not had it enough to know what I am eating. I have a friend who has some very close Indian friends and I went to one with her. She 'helped' me with explanations. It is really fairly low GI...and the rice is basmati, so that is not too bad too.

Okay, just a little pop in to say hello I spent over an hour this morning writing a reply, hit the post button and it said I wasn't logged in...so I did another reply and it said I wasn't logged in after I'd just logged in! So, here I am at the Mac and hoping it works now. I had a REALLY long post made, too. Maybe after I get a few things done around here, I'll try again....assuming this post works!! I just posted on General Chatter and that worked...

TTFN!!

Well, I probably just got myself fired. For those who don't know, I'm a hairdresser at Master Cuts. I absolutely love it...just two weekdays a week and Saturday nights. The young women I work with are so cute and so talented and we all get along famously and they call me Mom. My manager is fabulous. BUT, I met her boss on Wednesday and I've never met a more rude person in all my days working anywhere. When she came in, I extended my hand for a handshake and said, "I'm so happy to meet you finally!" and she just brushed me off and said, "Oh, hi." and didn't shake my hand. So, then she's putting together a dome dryer and I asked if I could help her and she rudely said no, that she can do it herself. She spent the better part of two hours on our phone at the front desk by the register complaining to somoene about other stylists in other salons and how annoying they were and what terrible clothes they were wearing. Then I was cashing out a customer that had gotten a haircut and about $30 worth of shampoo for his wife and he was using his credit card...which uses the phone line. So, when I went to cash him out, she said, "That won't go through till I'm off the phone." So the customer went without getting his reciept because she wouldn't hang up. THEN, she yelled at me for being to stupid to realize that I wouldn't be able to make the credit transaction while the phone was in use. When I left, I said goodbye to everyone and they all said, "Bye, Mom!" except for the witch just looked in a different direction as she said, "See ya." I was so disgusted with it, I just got off the phone with Master Cuts corporate office putting in a complaint. I've never met a more rude and unprofessional person in my life. I asked one of the girls that works there if it was just me and she said, "No, she's rude like that to all the new girls...its like a test to see what they'll do." Well, I called and reported her. How stupid. So, I'll probably get fired. I'm waiting for someone to call me back.

So, how is everyone else's day?

TECH: I agree, her behaviour is very unprofessional. Someone like that does not deserve to be in a place of authority. If you get fired for your complaint, then so be it. There are other salons. If and when they call you back, be sure to mention you tried to check a customer out and she would not hang up so you could process his credit card. Of course, if she has the upper management snowed, they may believe her instead of you, but it sounds like some of the other stylists might back you up if necessary. I am glad you got your posting issues resolved!

Monet: It was getting a little more than frustrating...the whole posting thing. Here I am back at the Mac!

Just a quickie...I posted this on our hockey fans thread in General Chatter, but you guys may/may not know I'm a rabid Buffalo Sabres fan and I just LOVE this video. No professional sports team in Buffalo has ever won a championship game (Super Bowl or Stanley Cup) and this year the Sabres have a REAL chance. They had the best record in the entire NHL this year. This video makes me cry. Take a peek if you want!!

Just wanted to pop in and say hi before the weekend. I don't know why I thought I would have time to post more. ha.

We have a wedding tomorrow and a birthday party Sunday. Actually the whole month of May is full. My house will suffer. We will be out of town 3 weekends in a row. We booked our vacation today. July 5th we fly to Punta Cana. My DD is going and 2 of her friends. We will leave them alone all week but I feel better traveling to a foreign country with her.

Melf, I love the Relay for Life. I want to do one some day. Emotionally, I am not ready.

Country, I can't believe the mother would keep that baby from you. I hate what people do to kids out of spite. Hang in there.

Monet, glad you are feeling better.

Rosalie, have a great weekend.

Sef,

Tech, I sure hope you don't lose your job. But that lady was rude. My DD had a very rude sales person last night. She wants to call and report her.

Bob, what's up with you. Kate doing alright?

This is the start of Derby Week here so everyone is busy with some activity. Pretty crazy here.

I hope I didn't miss anyone. Got to run. Have a wonderful weekend.

Hi Everyone

I had trouble sleeping last night, which wasn't surprising as I had slept for an hour in the afternoon. At 2 a.m. I was still wide awake so got up and sorted out some stuff in my closet and ironed a blouse. When I went back to bed I set the alarm to make sure I would get up on time for my walk, which I did. I did three laps at the mall before going bowling. I just finished lunch a short while ago. Decided to have a late lunch as I am going to a pot luck supper this evening and know we won't be eating before 8 p.m. I'll have to try and not gorge myself but I know there will be lots of good food there and the temptation will be great. I am making sweet and sour chicken in the crockpot and will cook some basmati rice to go with it. For lunch I had lentil and veggie soup with a slice of whole grain bread topped with spiced cheese and popped in the toaster oven. It was yummy.

Tech - I think you did the right thing reporting that manager. There's really no excuse for so much rudeness. I do hope you don't lose your job over it.

Monet - Glad to hear you are feeling better to-day.

Melf and CountryMom -

Solly - Sounds like you will be having a busy weekend.

Sef and BOB - WHERE ARE YOU?

.GOOD MORNING,

Yes, I'm still here. I have been on the go forever I think. I'd rather have that then sit around twiddling my thimbs or bemoaning my aches and pains. Although sometimes......afterwards

I have entertained at NHs three times, went to my group at the NH twice, went to a party last night, had to make a casserole for that (I was not good at the party!), been shopping, choir, all in one week. It was just too much. I just couldn't even sit at computer. There's my excuse for being AWOL.

At the party last night someone else brought baked beans too, she wasn't supposed to but did. So I had a lot of beans left over. Put them in a ziplock in the freezer and won't have to do anything for another party. This party was for a choir member that relocated back to her roots in Minnesota after Katrina. It was good to see her again. One of my favorite people, the energizer bunny of the octogenerians!

COUNTRY: What are purple hulls? I'm always interested in plants. My DS has developed wuite a green thumb.

I didn't have the luxury of seeing my GD grow up. They lived over seas until she was in fifth grade. Thank God for video tapes. They bought VCRs the Christmas GD was born for both sets of grandparents and kept us well supplied with tapes. Still we missed out on the special bonding that goes between grandparent/child. I hope somewhere along the way you get that special chance.

MELF: That tape edit thing didn't seem to be in my ken. I was probably tired and missed something. I had forgotten about it until just now going over the posts, I will have to try again. Thank you for sharing.
We have a Picadilly here, we go there after church sometimes. The staff is very good too. It is hard trying to carry a tray when using a cane. The cashier always volunteers someone to carry it for me. Never have to ask.

BOB: All the people in my NH group are true blue Southern ladies and gentlemen. They liked your Southern Woman bit. Also liked scale tips.

ROSALIE: Hope you enjoyed yourself at Frankie Tomatoes and was good to boot. I don't like to sleep in the daytime either, but sometimes our bodies have other ideas. We should learn to listen to our bodies and not fight them. I am not always a good listener!!

We love chicken, there is so much you can do with it and have a different flavor sensation each time. Do you have a recipe for your sweet/sour chicken that you'd be willing to share?

MONET: Hope you are feeling better. Maybe I'll see that you are in a later post. The bowl on the left reminds me of an large antigue bowl I have, we use it as a planter. I love your work. Wish I was so talented. See you skipped your trip up north. Disappointing I'm sure, but wise. You could have spread a few germs up there. There are so many good OTC meds, but like you, I have to read the labels and most I can't use. I will keep that Tussin CF in mind.

TECH: If they can you, I'm sure you can find another job. I know it must be hard when you get along so famously with the staff. How stupid that woman is. When she was tying up the phone she was blocking potential customers too. Probably no one has complained about her before, just felt they had to take her c--p, otherwise how could she be in the position she has? Good for one for standing up for yourself. If you get a call about your complaint, you need to remind them about the phone incident.......that hits them in the pocketbook.

SOLLY: Sounds like you are going to be busy. We had to cancel the activity for mid-May that the YAH was having. We're all grandparents or aunts/uncles with graduating relatives. My GD graduates from UNO and we will have company for a few days. Everyone lives a distance so we want to make the trip worthwhile time-wise.

Been sitting here a while, time to move, but first......

IRISH COFFEE
Think about this next time you have a lattee .....and enjoy some Irish Viagra!

An Irish woman of advanced age visited her physician to ask his help in
reviving her husband's libido.

"What about trying Viagra?" asks the doctor .

"Not a chance," she said . "He won't even take an aspirin."

"Not a problem," replied the doctor. "Give him an "Irish Viagra."Its when you drop the Viagra tablet into his coffee. He won't even taste it. Give it a try and call me in a week to let me know how things went."

It was a week later that she called the doctor, who directly inquired as to progress. The poor dear exclaimed, "Oh, faith, bejaysus and begorrah! T'was horrid! Just terrible, doctor! "

"Really? What happened?" asked the doctor

"Well, I did as you advised and slipped it in his coffee and the effect was almost immediate. He jumped straight up, with a twinkle in his eye, and with his pants a-bulging fiercely! With one swoop of his arm, he sent the cups and tablecloth flying, ripped me clothes to tatters and took me then and there, took me passionately on the tabletop! It was a nightmare, I tell you, an absolute nightmare!"

"Why so terrible?" asked the doctor, "Do you mean the sex your husband provided wasn't good?"

"Twas the best sex I've had in 25 years!" replied the woman. "But sure as I'm sittin' here, I'll never be able to show me face in Starbucks again!"

THE POTATO

Well, Girl Potato and Boy Potato had eyes for each other, and finally they got married, and had a little sweet potato, which they called 'Yam.'

Of course, they wanted the best for Yam. When it was time, they told her about the facts of life. They warned her about going out and getting half-baked, so she wouldn't get accidentally mashed, and get a bad name for herself like 'Hot Potato,' and end up with a bunch of Tater Tots.

Yam said not to worry, no Spud would get her into the sack and make a rotten potato out of her! But on the other hand she wouldn't stay home and become a Couch Potato either. She would get plenty of exercise so as not to be skinny like her Shoestring cousins.

When she went off to Europe, Mr. and Mrs. Potato told Yam to watch out for the hard-boiled guys from Ireland. And the greasy guys from France called the French Fries. And when she went out west, to watch out for the Indians so she wouldn't get scalloped.

Yam said she would stay on the straight and narrow and wouldn't associate with those high class Yukon Golds, or the ones from the other side of the tracks who advertise their trade on all the trucks that say, 'Frito Lay.'

Mr. and Mrs. Potato sent Yam to Idaho P.U. (that's Potato University) so that when she graduated she'd really be in the Chips. But in spite of all they did for her, one-day Yam came home and announced she was going to marry Tom Brokaw.

Tom Brokaw!

Mr. and Mrs. Potato were very upset. They told Yam she couldn't possibly marry Tom Brokaw because he's just.......

Are you ready for this?

Are you sure? OK! Here it is!

Good Evening

I didn't get out to walk this morning but I did play a couple of games of badminton. I had no time for more as I had to take my dil's Mom and Dad to the airport. On the way back I stopped at a flea market and picked up one of those long armed tub scrubbers. The first one I had lasted me about 10 years. The last time I used it I was thinking how good it had been and ten seconds later the top fell off! I bought a new one about a year ago but the darn thing has fallen apart twice. I fixed it up once but it fell apart again. I hope this one lasts longer.

Sef - I agree it is good to keep busy and you are doing such a good job entertaining at the NH. I am sure you are appreciated. Here's my recipe for the Sweet and Sour Chicken:

1 1/2 - 2 lb chicken breast cut up
1 onion, chopped
1 stick celery, chopped
1 green or red pepper cut in small pieces
1 14 oz can stewed tomatoes
1 7 oz can pineapple tidbits or crushed (see note below)
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup white wine vinegar
1/4 cup agave syrup (or sugar substitute)
1/2 tspn ginger powder - or use fresh
Salt and pepper
2 tspn chicken boullin mix (I use salt free)
A couple of bay leafs.

Fry the onion for a few minutes in a little oil. Add the chicken pieces and brown on all sides. Add the remaining ingredients, bring to a boil, lower heat and simmer for about 1 hour. If you like a thicker gravy thicken with flour or arrowroot at the end of cooking. Or coat the chicken in flour before frying. This is what I did Friday when I made it for a pot luck supper and cooked it in a crockpot.

I know pineapple is a no-no but it is only about 1 oz of pineapple and juice per serving. And the juice has a lower gi than the fruit so with the gi of 66 for the fruit and gi of 46 for the juice the gi for fruit and juice together should be no more than 60 and I am sure the GI Load for that amount would be much less than 10. If you don't want to use pineapple you could try it with unsweetened juice. This recipe is also good with pork. I sometimes make it with pork tenderloin or any other lean pork.

Just flying by on my way to bed. I had a student today..she stayed a long time and helped me finish up a lot of the glazing for the school kids pots. We got the kiln on before she left. I stubbed my little toe really badly this morning, and I think it is broken. It sure hurts a lot! And it is a lovely purple color.

I was throwing with my student and made a very large bowl. It sure was fun, but now I have to go buy a bat large enough to trim it on! It is almost 24 inches in diameter, and will JUST fit in the kiln!

I made ww pizzas tonight using pocketless pitas. They turned out so good! And my bg was not too bad after dinner.

Sweet dreams all!

Good morning!! It is a beautiful day and I plan to get out and enjoy it. I worked outside yesterday also. I'm so glad to have the wonderful spring weather, but I know that the hot, humid Georgia summer is right around the corner. I scrubed our porch yesterday and planted two tomato plants, one each of jalepeno, zucchini, lemon mint and spearmint. I also spread five bags of mulch. So, I feel like I accomplished a lot. Today I have to go pick up Rachel from a spend the night birthday, so I think I'll go back by Home depot and look for some strawberries, and some wave petunias or something to plant in a pot on the back deck.

Monet-If the toe is blue, it usually is broken. Just tape it to the next one and try not to bump it on anything till it is less sore!

I hope everyone has a lovely day and try to get out and enjoy some frash air if you can!!!

Good Morning

It's been a nice sunny morning here. A little cool but supposed to go up to about 68F this afternoon. I went for a walk this morning. I left my car at home and walked to the mall as it was a bright day, also Sunday the mall doesn't open until 8 a.m. so it is light when I leave here. During the week if I leave at 6-630 a.m. it is still quite dark. I've been lazing around since. Did a bit of reading then decided to make some oatmeal cookies. After I put all the dry stuff in the bowl remembered I had used up the last of the eggs this morning. So maybe I will make them this evening when I get home. I'm going to the legion this afternoon to play shuffleboard and will stop at the grocery store on the way home.

Monet - Ouch! I bet that toe hurts. Take care.

Have a great day everyone.
