Monet- Thank you! I really like the pasta, so I hope it works! I am doing Sugar Busters. I am a little bit discouraged, because I lost 6 lbs. the first week, but have not lost anything in the last 2 weeks. Any suggestions? I have been eating the no sugar added ice cream for the last week, so I think I need to cut that out for now.

ANABANANA: Why don't you post a typical days menu and let us all see what ideas we can give you. Six pounds in the first week is awesome! Some folks find they lose in fits and spurts..so you may be one who takes another week or so, then drops a couple pounds. Are you getting any exercise? That will help. Post what you are eating...that will help a lot!

Breakfast: an appple, or 2 eggs scrambled
snack: iced latte with nonfat milk, splenda
Lunch: natural peanut butter on Ezekiel bread, celery
Snack: peanuts or cashews
Dinner: chicken breast sauteed in olive oil and chicken stock, broccoli and asparagus sprinkled with parmesan cheese
Dessert: half cup no sugar added ice cream

what do you think?

ANA: The eggs are good, but just an apple is not. Its best to have protein at each meal and especially breakfast. How many slices of Ezekiel bread? It is best to keep your starchy carbs to two or three for weight loss. How many peanuts or cashews are you eating? They are high fat, though they are a good snack. You just need to make sure you don't over do it. A piece of fruit might be a better snack. I think you are eating within the guidelines, but definitely need more veggies, and fruit. I am sure others will give you some ideas too.

Good evening,

Have been on the go and I'm getting tired. Did have a nice afternoon. Did the NH this morning and had stitch group later. We met at someone else's house. Betty is having car troubles and couldn't come but offered to have us at her place. There were four of us, we chatted and stitched away having a gay old time when Joyce said it was after 4p, We usually end around 3:30.

Leftovers for supper, whch I planned for during the week.

Have taken my shower so I won't be rushed in the morning. The YAH is going to the Glass Place in N.O. and then to Cafe Reconcile for lunch. GD is going to let Bitsy out for me so my puppy won't have to cross her legs!!

[B]SOLLY:[/B[ It is sad to see parts of Slidell that have been abandoned. Also N.O., beyond the French Quarter there is still so much devastation. People think because they saw parades during Mardi Gras that everything is back to normal. Not!! The Quarter did not have the damage that other areas suffered, so that area was up and running rather quickly.

That quiz was a doozy. I only got about half.

TONI: Love Schwans, they may be a little more expensive but well worth it. DIL's nephew got a turkey, said it was really big one. They live in MO too

THIN: My heart goes out to that boys parents. You just never know what life will serve. Do know a parent shouldn't have to bury a child. It's not a natural progression of life/

ROSALIE: Hope you had a good visit with DD. Some times I miss the slower good old days when there seemed to be more time for visiting. Or for that matter most anything!

MONET: Sometimes it just doesn't pay to get up in the morning! Terrible to have the cake fall.

MELF: That's the hardest thing - restraint. I think I could probably eat one of those chickens myself too. How was the trip to airport?

ANA: Think that is shorter to type.....I'm so lazy! Anabanana sings. Do you? Choir? Chorus? Welcome to the board. Barilla is a very good brand and I think they use 100% seminolina durum wheat, which is what we should use if we don't use WW pasta. How much of that ice cream are you eating? I think a serving is only 1/2 cup, which is a really small amount. Sometimes that first week is fluid, then our bodies say "what are you doing to me? I don't want to cooperate!" In the end it gives up the battle and you will see a loss. Don't want to be gross, but sometimes a new food plan can cause constripation or the opposite. Constipation can hinder weight loss (I speak from experience}, it's all staying inside you. More fruit and vegetables would help. Be careful of the nuts, only a few, not a whole handful. I found I had to be really strict with the carbs the first few weeks. You don't seem to be doing anything wrong, it just may take you a little longer before everything adjusts to your new woe.

Oops! just read the next post, MONET also tells you some of the same things.

Okay I am going to put my feet up. Don't think I will be back tonight.

May good things happen, Shirley

ok. I fired the kiln tonight, baked bread, mixed more bread which I forgot in the oven, then ruined trying to bake a cake at the same time, and made fried chicken breasts, broccoli and instant mashed potatoes for dinner. I was bad and ate a few taters. I was so mad at everyone though..they all got up and left the table and no one helped clean up. I have SO much to do, and it would be awfully nice to have some help. Grrr.

I need to get ready for bed so I can crawl in there as soon as the cake comes out of the oven.

In the morning, I am going to the water aerobics class at the gym with my neighbor. Did I mention I joined a gym? I am pretty excited about it...I can't wait to get started. I have an appointment with a personal trainer for my free session/orientation on Monday.

Tom is not feeling well, and is climbing in the bed now, so I better go so he can sleep! Night!

Good morning! Looks like we have lost some folks since the move! If you are lurking, please check in.

I am suited up and waiting to leave for the water aerobics class at the gym. I am excited! And a bit nervous.

I will report when I get back!

Hi Ladies, had a very busy day yesterday so I couldn't post. Today will not be much better, but hey, at least it is Friday. No plans for the weekend. It is supposed to be beautiful here, in the high 70's so yard work will be number 1 on the list. I do have to get my hair colored and cut tomorrow, but after that I want to get some flowers out and enjoy the nice weather. This weekend is "Thunder over Louisville", It is the huge fireworks display and activities to kick off Derby. Think we will pass this year. Just way too many people. I will watch it on tv instead. Boy you can tell I am getting old.

Made it to the gym 4 times this week. So I am happy with that. Hope the scale reflects it tomorrow. DD (youngest one that is not going to WW with me) was forced to get on the scale at the Dr's the other day. She has lost 28 pounds. She is looking great. She want to lose that much again. But I don't think she will need too. May 20 more. I am so happy for her. She is really loving looking nicer and buying cute clothes. My other DD has lost almost 20 pounds and has a way to go, but that is ok.

Monet, when everyone leaves the table, you need to speak up. They will let you do it if you don't stand up for yourself. I bet you will love the gym. I sure do.

Thin, it is so hard to every find a reason for such a loss. I pray for those parents.

Toni, I don't think I have ever had a day I didn't feel like eating. Unless it was when I was going thru chemo.

Melf, How is your walking going.

Ana, welcome to our group. Hope you decide to join us. Slow down on the ice cream and see if that helps.

Bob: have a great weekend.

Got to get busy, have a great day.

Mo, what a wonderful birthday gift to yourself! You have done so well on SB & exercise! I know you will be away for your birthday on the 26th so I hope you see this before you leave for your trip.

Monet Water aerobics sounds great! I agree, seems like we've lost several board members. Haven't seen Country & Heart & several others in a while! I've also noticed that there are lots of names/profiles that never post on our board I finally added my profile today. Been meaning to do that but just hadn't got around to it.

Solly WTG on the I am still as often as I can, 2miles at least 3-4 x/week. I fell better & still losing. Slower than I would like, but still losing.

SEF Let me just say that it was a good thing that we decided to hold off on the visit. We got there at 8:10am, his flight on Jet Blue had already been canceled because of the weather in New York. We spent the next couple of hours waiting in lines trying to get another afforable flight out. He finally paid double for a flight that brought him over 2 hours away from where he needed to be. I left there at 10:30 but he wasn't going to fly out until 1:45 to Long Island, N.Y. by way of Orlando!

ANA Good question on the pasta. I looked it up & found this info on their site.

Pasta & the Glycemic Index

The Glycemic Index sounds complicated, but it’s simple: it’s one way that nutritionists measure how carbohydrates affect the body. The Glycemic Index (GI) ranks carbohydrates based on how quickly they affect a person’s blood glucose (blood sugar) levels. The slower the blood sugar response, the lower a food’s GI value.

Why is this important? Studies show that a slow, gradual glucose response after a meal is better for you than a fast one. A slower response delays hunger pangs, provides fuel for working muscles long after meals are eaten, causes less stress on the pancreas, and improves coronary health.

Due to the special protein structure of pasta dough, all pasta has a low GI value, ranging from 30 to 60. That’s true for pasta of any shape or size, and for pasta that’s made from either soft or hard wheat. (But overcooked, mushy pasta is very soft and swollen in size, so it will have a higher GI value than pasta cooked more firmly, or as the Italians say, al dente.)

Eating low-GI-value foods – such as pasta – may help you stay healthier and live longer, and may play a key role in preventing chronic diseases, such as obesity, diabetes, coronary heart disease, and certain cancers.

"Pasta, with its dense compact structure, is a low-Glycemic-Index food. "And it's even lower if it's eaten with beans, chick peas and other low-Glycemic-Index vegetables."

I actually tried the Barilla Plus for a pasta salad I did for Easter & it's very good. I questioned the Glycemic Index value of it at that time. Although this article doesn't tell us the actual value, it claims that it's in the LOW range.

HI,

Just a quickie. I did not go to N.O. with the YAH. I woke up with vertigo and feeling rather low. I called the friend who was going to pick me up for the trip to the church for carpooling. Good thing I didn't go. About the time we would have been on the way to N.O. I had a bout of diarhea, So things work out for the best. Spent the day sleeping or half asleep. I have pills for vertigo on hand as I've had it before. That helped but still felt lousy. Doing a little better now.

MONET: My DH always said the cook shouldn't have to clean up. We had a lot of family gatherings at our house and he would tell them they had to help. One of his sisters always wanted to be thr princess, but it didn't work at our house! You have to tell your folks that they have to pitch in and help. All you do for others, they should do for you.

Water aerobics are such fun. The class I went to was all a bunch of old broads like me so no one noticed our imperfections. There were a couple of old guys too.

SOLLY: How wonderful your daughters are doing. I think it helps when you're not alone in this struggle. You're doing great too.

MO: You are amazing! You are doing so well. Enjoy your family visit and your birthday.

MELF: How aggravating to have all that trouble with flights. Can't blame the airlines for weather delays, that's in God's hands. Amazing the routes they make to get you where you want to go!

Thanks for post the pasta info.

I am tired, you'd think I did something today! Today is FF and I have a couple saved.

The Dentist:

A guy and a girl meet at a bar. They get along so well that they decide to go to the girl's place. A few drinks later, the guy takes off his shirt and then washes his hands. A while later he takes off his trousers and washes his hands again.

The girl has been watching him and says, "You must be a dentist."

The guy, surprised, says "Yes.... how did you figure that out?"

"Easy," she replied, "you keep washing your hands."

One thing led to another and they make love. Afterwards the girl says, "You must be a good dentist."

The guy, now with a boosted ego says, "Yes I am, I'm a very good dentist. How did you figure that out?"

"I didn't feel a thing!!"

YOU GOTTA FOLLOW THE RECIPE!

A man is showering up in a locker room with his buddy when he notices his friend is very well endowed. "Darn Bob, you're hung!"
Jim exclaims."I wasn't always this impressive, I had to work for it."

"What do you mean?" Jim asked.

"Well, every day for the past two years I've spent an hour each night rubbing it with butter. I know it sounds crazy but it actually made it grow 4 inches!
You should try it."

Jim agrees and the two say good bye.

A few months later the two are in the same locker room and Bob asks Jim how his situation was.
Jim replied," I did what you said, Bob, but I've actually gotten smaller! I lost two inches already!"

"Did you do everything I told you, an hour each day with butter?"

"Well, I was out of butter, so I've been using Crisco."

"Crisco?! " Bob exclaimed. "Darn it, Jim, Crisco's shortening!!!!"

YOU GOTTA FOLLOW THE RECIPE!

White Lie Cake
Have you ever told a white lie? You are going to love this - especially all of the ladies who bake for church events.

Alice Grayson was to bake a cake for the Baptist Church ladies' group bake sale in Tuscaloosa, Alabama but she forgot to do it until the last minute. She remembered it the morning of the bake sale and after rummaging through cabinets she found an angel food cake mix and quickly made it while drying her hair and dressing and helping her son Bryan pack up for Scout camp.

But when Alice took the cake from the oven, the center had dropped flat and the cake was horribly disfigured. There was no time to bake another cake. This cake was so important to Alice because she did so want to fit in at her new church and in her new community of new friends. So, being inventive, she decided she needed something to put in the center of the cake. Alice found it in the bathroom -- a roll of toilet paper. She plunked it in the center of the cake and then covered it with icing. Not only did the finished product look beautiful, it looked perfect!

Before she left the house to drop the cake by the church and head for work, Alice woke her daughter Amanda and gave her some money and specific instructions to be at the bake sale the minute it opened at 9:30, and to buy that cake and bring it home.

When the daughter arrived at the sale, she found that the attractive, perfect cake had already been sold. Amanda grabbed her cell phone and called her Mom. Alice was horrified everyone would know! What would they think? She would be ostracized, talked about, and ridiculed. All night Alice lay awake in bed thinking about people pointing their fingers at her and talking about her behind her back.

The next day, Alice promised herself that she would try not to think about the cake and she would attend the fancy luncheon/bridal shower at the home of a friend of a friend and try to have a good time. Alice did not really want to attend because the hostess was a snob who more than once had looked down her nose at the fact that Alice was a single parent and not from the founding families of Tuscaloosa. Having already RSVP'd she could not think of a believable excuse to stay home.

The meal was elegant, the company was definitely upper crust old South. . . and to Alice's horror, the CAKE in question was presented for dessert.

Alice felt the blood drain from her body when she saw the cake. She started out of her chair to rush to tell her hostess all about it, but before she could get to her feet, the Mayor's wife said, "What a beautiful cake!" Alice, who was still stunned, sat back in her chair when she heard the hostess (who was a prominent church member) say, "Thank you, I baked it myself."

Alice smiled and thought to herself, "GOD is good."

We all face times of great trouble. When we do, it is so easy to forget what God can work in our lives, sometimes in the most surprising ways. And remember with God, a mere spider's web becomes a brick wall of protection.

May good things happen, Shirleu

Just a fly by. All is fine here. We're having beautiful weather. Not much going on. Guess we'll go grocery shopping tomorrow. I really need some vegetables and fruit in the house. Hope you all have a happy week end.

Well, thanks for the warm welcome, you guys! I lost 25 lbs on Sugar Busters 8 years ago, and 2 kids later, I am ready to do it again. I am remembering now the plateus. I used to go weeks with no loss, then 5 lbs would come off, overnight. I am being patient and cutting back on the sf ice cream. Eating bigger breakfast, more protein at every meal. Thanks so much for the suggestions. I am so glad Barilla Plus is legal- I love it! So does my family... Ezekiel bread is also my favorite. Someone asked about my name... I am a singer, I am a worship leader at my church. I could not live without singing and music. Hope you all have a nice weekend!

GOOD EARLY MORNING EVERY BUDDY!!

I had to eat this whole birthday cake by myself because none of you showed up to help!! I had a good DO NOTHING DAY...I got flowers early this morning from my Nephew's children, talked to my Brother, my Niece and my Cousin and her Husband. Heard from Kimmy (who used to be on the board), and got a card from Debbie. Kate and I have had a quiet evening....well...she wasn't so quite...THE BRAVES played some good baseball tonight and she was yelling, hooting and hollering!
All in all, it didn't hurt to turn 55yrs old...I'm not squeeking yet...

I'm researching things on the computer for the work situation. A friend of mine wants me to go into the candle business. They are tripple scented, don't smoke (not black stuff on the jars)...the samples she sent me smell devine and the return is pretty good. I'm still thinking about that...of course, that could be something to do on the side.

I'm off for now...I'm watching Intervention on A & E...it's heartbreaking to see these people who are so addicted...

I'll buzz through on Saturday...Hope everyone sleeps well!
