This morning after the EHS (Environmental, Health and Safety) rep came and looked at my workstation to see if it could be reconfigured to accommodate the wheelchair, and after he determined it couldn't be done, I called the benefits lady to ask what I needed to do about the short-term disability and the fact that I came back for a day. She said that there is a provision for such occurrences -- you've got a week or so after coming back to decide if it's going to work out, and if it doesn't, you can have the leave extended. And then she told me that she slipped on ice in the parking lot on Dec. 5 of last year and broke her ankle, and was off until mid-February! She was surprised that I had tried to come back to work ... so at least I have a supporter in the benefits office.
Melissa, I think Judd is just so disgusted with Shaun that he doesn't want to see him, talk to him, think about him, anything. He actually can't stand him at this point -- doesn't understand laziness and a lack of motivation. He can't stand the fact that Shaun stays up late, sleeps late, lays around, doesn't do anything, doesn't have a job, lost the good job he had (since he's good friends with Shaun's former boss, he knows a lot of stuff he doesn't tell me), doesn't pay his bills, wrecked that car, still goes out and spends money that he really doesn't have, etc. He is so ready for him to leave and never come back. I might be nearly there too, but at least he's still my son. I love him but don't like him either.
Well Kathy at least you have a supporter in an important office!
I understand that Judd (and you) is disgusted with Shaun. It's a really difficult situation. I guess he just doesn't have that connection with him which is the only thing keeping you from kicking him out. I hope that everything works out really soon.
Sandra, those omelets sound good. We will have to try them some weekend here, when we're all here together for breakfast. I'm so glad you're finding it easy to get back on program. It's so important to have those "goodies."
Vickie, I'm proud of you for going to the later meeting! Way to go! And the l4 lost is just icing on the cake.
Melissa, I'm glad you're feeling better. Still remember to take it easy though. It'll take a few days for you to get back up to speed I bet.
And Kathy, I'm so glad you're taking disability. You need to take care of your ankle. I'm sorry you can't get into the doctor...that always really frustrates me.
Thanks, Angela. I guess it's not so important now for me to get into the doctor -- all I really wanted from them was to tell me I could go back out on disability. After talking to the nurse and getting her okay, and then getting the approval from benefits, I'm good to go.
I've been meaning to ask if you've done any sewing lately? I was thinking about Easter dresses the other day and your girls came to mind.
Kathy - I too am glad that you are home again and able to prop your foot up and get the healing you need! Maybe you should draw up a schedule for the week? Find out who is home and when and maybe assign different household chores? Just put a chart up on the fridge or somewhere? Would that work?
As for Shaun - I can certainly understand how you are both getting fed up - it is certainly a strain on your relationship and the household! Any news on his shipping out soon?
Melissa - glad you are feling better!
Saundra - you are a model of maintenance! And I'm sure U of O would want us to do a jewish info and cooking class dontcha think?
I did do my passover order today (and ran into half of the neighborhood doing the same thing!). A little bitty cartful of stuff came to around $150 (and I'm not even doing any major seders at my place!).
Still not sure about who's going where tomorrow night - but I agree with you Kathy - they are old enuf to know better. At this time I believe dd is going w/her dad (given she dresses appropriately) and ds is not? Don't think he's coming with me - so I guess he stays home alone and does his own (non) seder. Makes me sad to think of this - but not much I can do. I will talk to him tonight (he is writing an exam right now) and try to convince him to go with someone! (hypercity or lesbians? hypercity or lesbians? such a hard decision to make!)
I still need to get the fruit platter for tomorrow night - I think I shall buy one (yes back to Farmboy again) as I won't have much time tomorrow to cut everything up (get home around 5:30 pm and have to be there at 6:30). But at least the white wine is already chilling!
Have any of you seen the new Coke Blak? I tried it yesterday and it's surprisingly good! It's a mix of coke and coffee. The bottle has 45 calories, 0 fat, and contains Nutrasweet (I think). Let me see if I can find some info about it. If you like coffee and coke but never thought you'd like it together, you should try it.
Good Morning Chicks! I can't believe I actually have a day with NO Doctor's appointments. I slept until 7:30, which gave me about 7 hours which is ok. I'll be napping later for sure.
So first I'll give you my Doctor's visit report and then I'll go read posts and see how you all are.
I have benign positional vertigo, which my Internist says is pretty common. When when switching positions rapidly, even while laying down in bed, the entire room would spin (worse than ever happened to me when I was a drinking young adult!). This has been happenening to me for about 10 days now. Even rolling over onto my side in the bathtub would cause the room to spin. Anway, it is supposedly a problem with the innner ear. I think he said it's a virus. I must have a pretty mild case, because he said some people end up in the hospital. I didn't do any reading about it. I've had enough scares lately to keep reading on the internet. He gave me 7 days worth of medicine, Antivert, to take twice a day with a refill. He says it probably won't come back. Jim had this too when I first met him, so we were hoping that was all it was for me.
I'll start taking it this morning after we go out to pick it up. There was such a long wait for it yesterday that I decided not to wait for it. We were just drained. So we came home and watched American Idol and lounged around. I took Jim out for turkey and dressing. He seems to be back to nearly normal this morning. Our Internist said that a viscious virus is going around and believes that is what Jim had. I've been disinfecting everything around here and am praying not to get what he had. So far so good!
Now I'm off to read about all of you. I'm hoping you're all well.
Vickie, I'm so glad you found out the trouble. Just the other day, my mom had such a bad dizzy spell, she was throwing up! She was better later in the day, but still felt dizzy for a few days. I wonder if that's what it was.
Kathy, I haven't done any sewing lately, at least for my girls. I've been busy with pillows and curtains and such for Lorena's house, and I have to admit, the idea of making 3 little dresses is kind of daunting. It was easier when it was 1 or 2.
Time to go oversee the whole dishwasher emptying procedure.
Morning chickies,,,I start work late today so I thought I would pop in and see how everyone is feeling.
Kathy add me to the list of people glad to see you home once again... you need to take care of yourself.
Saundra, oh thanks for the info on the seder meal,,,I didnt realize that!
Sandra, Im glad the foot is on the mend now..and by the way you looked great in your phota...
Frouf I hear you on the groceries,,,spent 140 myself yesterday thinking what the heck did i buy??
Melissa, soda crackers were the only thing I could eat to settle my stomach with morning sickness...I still eat them when I have an upset stomach and
gingerale..glad you feeling better...are you counting the days till you move?? how many sleeps?? haha
Great going onthe loss Vickie,.,,,,,im glad dh is feeling a little better.
Angela I think those omlettes sound so cool too...I may have to try them this weekend for easter breakfast. Dh will think Im losing it im sure..ha
Im so hoping I reach my 15 pound loss this week..Im trying very hard to get it...Im so tired of my 10 pound chickie and Ive been playing with the same pounds since christmas now...up and down...Ive taken sandra advice and gotten back on the serious wagon....thanks sandra for the kick in the butt I needed!
Morning chicks. No time to chat but just wanted to say hi and let you know I'm back at work. I'm feeling better but still very tired and weak. I'm hoping to stay under the radar today.
Whoa...was I EVER behind! Why is it when I'm around, the board is slow. When I'm not here you guys talk like crazy. I hope I don't stink or something!
Kathy, dear friend, I am SO glad that you are out indefinitely on disability. I'm not happy that you are in the situation but I'm relieved that you won't be at work. I was really concerned that you would cause permanent damage to that ankle. I know financially it will be a burden but your ankle is too high a price to pay. I hope your stomach calms down soon. How could you ever consider yourself to be a buzz kill? My goodness, we are all the walking wounded here lately. Jim and I also love the cheesecake pudding with fresh strawberries on it (and some FF cool whip!). I've also put the strawberries over the white chocolate pudding. Very yummy. As for Shaun, I'd be moving his butt out. He doesn't appreciate anything you are doing for him and all he is doing is upsetting both of you and his Sisters. If he was grateful and helping you out, it might be another matter. I guess it's easy for me to say. Maybe I don't understand because I'm not a mother.
Melissa, I do hope your bug is completely gone today. Maybe you have a form of that wicked virus. I cannot believe you were packing while you were sick. I'm sure you got alot accomplished. How convenient to have a Mom who is a Nurse. I call my big Sister.
Frouf, I hope you enjoy your seder plans and I really do hope you leave those kids home. It sounds like they won't appreciate it anyway. I don't think we have any sing along movies here but what a great idea that is. I've never been on a cruise either so I haven't seen them there either. I have to admit that I don't know the words as well as the Great Niece does. She really likes to belt them out. The 2 1/2 year old Great Nephew tried to shush us a bit during somewhere over the rainbow. He said "Dorothy sings" and put his little finger over his mouth and said "shhhh". Made me laugh out loud. I also have to tell you that I'm very proud of you. Taking one meal at a time and planning to walk if only for 10 minutes and drinking your water will result in success. I'm going to get back on that treadmill too.
Angela, welcome back to the wagon. It's good for us when you are here.
Saundra, the weather here is also beautiful. We get a lot of rain in the spring but it was almost 70 yesterday. I can tell that you really enjoyed DS's visit. Is he still at your home? I was shocked when you said that you had to learn how to walk properly again. I guess that means the injury was worse than you thought! Will they give you more than the 7 visits now?
Patti, thanks for the support! You have been a great friend. Don't worry about me and Jim. I know you've got your hands full with you own life crises right now. Welcome back to the wagon to you too!
Sandra, it is expensive to stock back up for Core again, isn't it?! It's much easier for me to keep it up. I'm cheap about stuff too, that's why I love Walmart. I'll be happy when our Walmart becomes a Super Walmart. Then I'll be able to buy more groceries there. Now I buy beans and as much as I can there. They only have 2 flavors of pudding but they are .62. My Jewel just had Jello pudding on sale for .50 a box. I stocked up! I really can tell that you have been reenergized on your program. I use visualization alot in my life and believe it could work for weight loss as well. I'll try the omelet soon since I eat them frequently. I'll be making a turkey soon too. I had the most success once I started using the bags. I haven't made the 7 layer dip yet but was thinking about it for the Great Niece's birthday. It depends what going on around here.
Ok chicks.....I'm starving! I'll probably go out for a while and will check in on you all later.
Vickie - glad you got to see the dr. for a diagnosis and some meds...as for Jim's vertigo:
Quote:
Jim had this too when I first met him, so we were hoping that was all it was for me.
For goodness sake he did NOT have what you had- he was merely dizzy crazy in love with you - which made his head spin whenever he saw you!
Hope you were able to get the meds and are feeling better soon - sounds like Jim is on the mend too! Glad the virus is on it's way out!
And too cute about little GN 'shushing' you to let 'dorothy sing" - guess you don't sound much like Judy Garland? ha ha
Melissa - sounds like you could use a little more rest? Hope you stay under the radar and are able to make it thru the day okay!
Angela - gee I thought you could whip up 3 little dresses in no time - in between curtains, pillows etc? ha ha ha. Glad your mom's vertigo went away tho! Does not sound like fun!
Patti - you sound bound and determined to make it to the 15 lb mark - which means you will definitely get there - good for you.
Kathy - hope you have determined a schedule for your little helpers and you are resting comfortably with you foot propped up nice and comfy.
And of course the seder saga continues - spoke w/DS last night who said he never wanted to go with his dad - so he is coming with us - left a note for dd (she was already asleep) asking if she wanted to go with her dad or with us (seeing as big ds was now joining us). Response said with us - so now we are ALL going to hyper Sherri's house for passover.
I have ordered a large fruit platter for pickup later today and will bring the wine. It sure feels different going out rather than making the prep for home. Altho we will have a very lovely dinner tomorrow night (froufie roast beef, asparagus, sweet potatoes) - no time to make matzah ball soup as I am working tomorrow - but home on Friday and have all ingredients (including fresh dill - yum) ready to go.
Cleaned up the 'pantry' last night (dd helped) so we could store our passover foods and leave some other stuff for dh close by (he was panicking cuz we were moving stuff around! - poor thing!).
Just got back from gf's. I marinated the chicken, which will be put into the oven this afternoon. I also set the table, and it looks lovely Gf will prepare appetizers and salad later on this afternoon. She said it was the best Passover prep she's ever done, which is very sweet. We went for quite a walk when we were finished, it's quite warm today. My foot is killing me, but I've got to use it. I'm not able to go beyond my eight visits, so I'm hoping for drastic changes soon. Oh, I'm having ff cottage cheese with fresh raspberries and strawberries, and it's oh so good.
Did I mention that Bernie got his tax cheque yesterday. At least I was able to fix the screw up.
Vickie, sounds like you guys are ready to mend yet again. I hope you enjoy your nice day. Your song story happened to me too. I was singing at a restaurant along with the 50's music, and Natan told me that I shouldn't sing when he was eating.
Melissa, glad that you're somewhat feeling better. Those things take a lot out of you (pardon the pun), so take it easy.
Frouf, have you told your friend to change the dinner numbers again? Don't you love when our kids do that to us? Good for you on cleaning out your pantry. Maybe one day, I'll get inspired and do the whole thing too.
Kathy, how are you doing today? Hope that it will be a nice quiet day for you and that you are well nourished.
Sandra, how's the core eating today? I find that if you have the ingredients right there, it really helps you to stay op.
Angela, you'll have to send pics of your sewing creations. I wish I was talented, but alas, I am not.
