I add extra garlic powder because we like our stuff garlic-ific! I cook it for about 16 minutes per pound because Jim and I like our steak/roast medium rare but more towards rare. You can adjust from there!
Kath, I guess your happy Kate isn't going yet?
Sandra, is your first surgery scheduled? Is it for heel bone spurs?
Evening chickies,
Today was a good day here, I actually got to sit out on my patio for a bit,,,there is still snow around us but it was pretty nice out. Makes me feel good and wanting to get gardening again. Nothing happening with Dhs job yet...were still waiting. Hes starting to send out resumes now though.,we cant wait forever. So many are heading west but we would prefer to go east..thats where are dd's are. Guess it will depend on where dh gets a job.
I was down a couple of pounds this week,,after last weeks gain,,but not back to where I was a couple of weeks ago. I need to get back on track seriously once again. Ineed to find some motivation.
Vickie im so sorry to hear about Jim...I hope everything turns out ok for him. Keeping you guys in my thoughts.....
Saundra that supper sounds delish...i love seafood..I even like suishi..mmmm
Frouf hope your feeling much better now.....
Kathy, hope everything is ok at your house today...alcohol does act like a depressant.....guess thats what happend to shawn.
Sandra, those spurs have to go soon,,,congrats on the third place too by te way...thats fantastic!!
Melissa did you get house hunting last night>>
Coco, hope you can get that computer fixed...virus' are nasty things and cause all kinds of problems...
one quick funny before I go here,,,I heard something in the kitchen so I went to check it out,,my cat was on the table trying to get at the olives left in the jar on the table...I forget how much he loves them!!! Guess he smelled them.....silly cat.
Patti, you keep hanging in there. Something good has to happen for you soon. Congratulations on your success despite all the stress. Where are you located again? I was trying to figure out what would be West and East of you.
Froufy roast is in the oven and smelling SPECTACULAR! I'm off to make mashed potatoes.
Today was an AWFUL eating day for me. After our resolve last night that "the diet starts tomorrow" we ended up doing errands during lunch and grabbed a burger. Terrible. And then my dad invited us over for dinner and it was not diet friendly, although I did manage to control myself portion-wise. So anyway, it really does start (again) tomorrow.
Patti, your cat sounds hilarious. I know that something will open up for your DH soon.
Sandra, when is your surgery? I know you will be feeling restless whenever that happens. Will you have to stay off of it for long?
Kathy, I'm glad that you came home earlier than you expected. I hope that today has been less eventful.
Well I need to get to laundry, etc. We've been gone almost all day and just got home a few minutes ago. Hope everyone is doing well!
Vickie, sorry your roast was rare. Thanks for the encouragement. I'm starting over tomorrow for sure.
We have a down comforter but never use it. DH gets too hot under it, and to be honest I do too most of the time. It has to be very cold. It's so pretty though.
Well, good night all!
vickie, i go for catscan(s) and doctor visit monday. surgery is scheduled for thursday. i am guessing we're still doing the right foot but i'm not sure. it might be the left. the main culprit on my right foot is a spur on top the foot. i also have other spurs. that's why we're doing the catscan. to see how many spurs need to be removed. i'll keep you posted.
patti, i didn't realize you were thinking of relocating. i hope something works out in ya'll's favor.
melissa, i don't know how long i'll be off my feet. i do know i'll be on either a walker or crutches for a bit. prob walker. i ate a little more today but am doing all right. i am proud of you for cutting down on portions. that's an accomplishment. hard for me to do.
Vickie - glad you enjoyed the rare but wonderful froufy roast - I actually made one yesterday as well - that smell of it cooking is divine!...and we have lots of LO for the weekend!
Melissa - I too had a very bad eating day - just grabbing whatever was around as I was in and out all day NOT GOOD!
Coco - sorry the computer gremlins are still annoying you - hope you can find a fix!
kathy - I am hoping that by now things have settled down at your place and you are getting some much deserved rest and relaxation. Shaun is sure pushing his luck and I don't blame you and Judd for being upset with him! Hope kate finds a wonderful new and better apartment!
Saundra - congrats on the ww job - I'm sure you will do great!..and any good finds for passover seder? I have not made my order yet - have to take stock of what I have so far - I do indulge in some of the non-core goodies - like the chopped liver, eggplant and coleslaw - yum yum!
Patti - congrats on your weight loss - and sending good vibes to dh for his job hunting - hope it all works out for you!
Carrie - sorry to hear your little one is not well - always stressful for a new mommy - hope he is on the mend!
Sandra - You are doing great - don't let that temporary number on the scale worry you!
I had a busy day yesterday - ended up driving ds to school - altho I was hoping to sleep in - but of course dh said he didn't sleep well all nght so could I drive him - I reluctantly agreed - then we played the 'okay i'll go and you rest" - "no I'll go and you rest" "no really I'm up already so I'll just go" "just let me shower and I'll take him" - anyhow I ended up driving him (as I wanted to start my shopping for dd) - had breakfast at Mcdonald's - then off to find bling bling jewel stuff. Went to zellers and wandered around there looking for stuff - and it was like fate or god or something pushing me down a certain aisle - and there on the end of one of these aisles was a rack - and there on the rack PACKAGES OF BLING BLING CELLPHONE ACCESSORIES - yes unbelievable - I just stood there staring! Had I not walked down that particular aisle - well I grabbed like 4 packages (reduced from 9.95 to $8 each) and was overjoyed!
Then off to the dance supply store - where I found black lipstick (UGH), big clip on diamond earrings, a rhinestone barette and rhinestones to stick on her face! Another $32 later and I was done. I know this sounds sick but I was literally crying on the way home - I just didn't realize how stressed I was about getting all this stuff - it was like a major weight was lifted off my shoulders! WOW
Then off to get my nails done (a very birght coral pink for spring!) and had a nice chat with the ladies there - the owner/my now friend - is looking at another cruise - for her 35th wedding anniversary - greece and italy (with a stopover in Venice) - of course I am drooling - she did invite me but obviously it's not in the card but I would sure love to go!
Dh had a therapist appt yesterday - came home acting very weird and quiet - back in his 'cave' - (went immediately to bed when he got home) - then we had the same "i'll pick ds up from school" - "no I'll get him cuz you drove him" "but you're sleeping and so tired I'm up I'll get him" "no I'm setting the alarm to go pick him up" - how weird is this?
Back to bed after bringing him home - but did agree to go out to a movie later that evening (Inside Man - very well done!) and seemed a bit more himself later on.
Went to bed too late last night and had a late start to the day - had to pickup dh as his car was in for servicing and then off to his dentist appt (at the mall) while ds and I shopped around (and of course now I see this bling bling stuff everywhere - bought ds some new 'outdoor' shoes at payless and at the cash is a stand with discounted items - you guess it cellphone sparkly bling bling stuff - girls says 2 for $1 - can you believe this? I grabbed 2 more of course just in case!).
Then just acted like a chauffeur rest of the day - took big ds to rent amp then to downtown club with all the drums/amps for a show - and just returned from picking up all the stuff - such is the life of a roadie mom!
Weirdest thing is a pain in my left side? Feeling very bloated? and an occasional sharp pain in left area above waist below ribs - I think it's my spleen? Not sure what this means but hope it goes away by morning as it is most annoying.
Also getting a bit of a headache?
Hope everyone is enjoying a lovely and relaxing weekend!
Frouf
P.S. Also sad news that one of the neighborhood froufs met its maker - guess it wasnt' fast enuf scooting across the street in the wee hours of the morning. dh called me when he went to drop off his car - and told me to take an alternate route out of the neighborhood - but I still 'saw' it - and it made me very very sad. I did go to the pet shop in the mall to see all the happy hopping bunnies - but each time I drove into our little area I was so sad when I saw this poor bunny all over the place! I shall stop thinking about this now!
Yup Vickie,,,,,Im in a teeny tiny place in northwestern ontario,,,,,close to Thunder Bay, Ont. Look around Lake sSuperior.....
Sandra it dosnt look like our local mill is going to re-open and the head honchos wont tell us anything....so we will have to relocate. Where we live is pretty much a one industry town. Were thinking dh will go look for something first and then I would follow..depending where he ends up. If its west Id wait until Dd is finished school. Shes closer to where Frouf and Saudra live..too many miles away..
Good Morning Chicks! It's a pretty sunny day here but only 32 degrees. Sheesh.
Patti, you poor thing! I forget that you are in Canada too. My understanding of geography knowledge is really weak. I can get sort of an idea from Lake Superior. And, I've certainly heard of Thunder Bay but I can't remember why. I know my Uncles used to fish in Canada on those trips where you get dropped off in the wilderness. I'm praying that DH finds something quickly in a wonderful location close to your family. In the meantime, you are doing a great job. I know it won't be easy to be left behind while he goes to search for a job.
Frouf, so we sort of had dinner together yesterday?! I could never get my roasts to not be blah so I'm very grateful to have another dish in my rotation! I don't buy really big roasts because we won't warm it up for another dinner. Jim makes a sandwhich and I'll ususally cut it up in a salad or eat it in my fingers. Yum! Well, I sure can hear the relief in your voice that DD is all set for her dance concert. You would think she'd notice all that you do for her and be appreciative. Someday you and she will be friends! I wonder what's up with your DH. Maybe Therapist gave him something to think about that he wasn't aware of. If she had sided with him on something he sure would have let you know about it! So she must have supported you or poked at a painful area. I'm happy for both of you that he's still going to therapy. So I thought you were a short Froufie? I don't have much room above my waist and below my ribs! I did have "discomfort" in that area on the left side as well. It started a couple of years ago and has calmed down since Gastro guy put me on Prevacid. I'm surprised to hear you say that the spleen is there. I have no idea where my organs are, I'm ashamed to say. I asked my Doctors over and over again what was there and I thought the said just the beginning of the stomach. Anywhoooo.....after having a endoscopy of my stomach to rule out h pylori, they told me I had a small hiatel (sp?) hernia. Nothing to be done about mine and as I said the Prevacid made it go away. With all you have going on in your life, I'm surprised you don't have tummy troubles! I'll hope yours was some nasty gas or something simple like that. On a happier note, I think of you whenever I see a bunny!
Sandra, I didn't realize the surgery was so soon. I'll be following all your progress to see if this is something I want to do. What kind of Doctor does this kind of surgery. I can't picture letting my little Podiatrist do it. Mine is nice but she doesn't seem like the surgeon type. I'd hate the thought of crutches. I don't think I'd be able to work them since I have zero upper body strength. I just have heel spurs. I didn't feel lucky to just have them until I heard how many you have! Keep us posted.
Melissa, what I order last night was a blanket. They are much lighter than comforters. I have a couple comforters that are just TOO heavy for me and Jim too. Our favorite one is dead and I'll need to try to replace it in the Fall. I hope you have a great Core day today. It's really hard when you aren't in control of the meal. My family caters to me and I forget to be more appreciative sometimes.
Ok chicks....I'm off to make a menu thread. I can't eat until 8:15 so I'll just ponder it for now.
Sunday morning and all is quiet around here. Bernie's car has a gas leak, so I drove him into work this morning. His 92 Corolla will go to the garage tomorrow morning. I hope it won't be major. In the mean time, the driveway continues to have leaking gasoline.
We watched two movies yesterday afternoon. The first was The Squid and The Whale and the second Where the Truth Lies. They were both very good. Bernie went to get one, but couldn't make up his mind. We haven't watched a double bill for a long time, but yesterday afternoon was a bit blah and a good one for R&R. After the movies, we had a nap. Then over to spend time with Natan. The kids went to see the play at Carleton. We took Natan to Dick's (hamburger place) for dinner. I put my back out when I was puting him into the car seat. Gee, add that pain to the foot and it wasn't a very good night's sleep last night.
It is suppose to be 9 celcius today and mostly sunny, so I hope to get out. I thought maybe take ds to lunch as he leaves for Vegas on Tuesday.
Patti, where does dd go to school? We've never been to your neck of the woods. Oldest ds worked in Manitawage (sp?) after university. Hope dh has success in job search. BTW, you cat has good taste.
I must try Froufy's roast one of these days. I could almost smell the aromas coming from Chicago and Centrepointe. We didn't wind up going to Loblaws on Friday. We're going to wait another week. My gf keeps kosher, which I don't , so everything has to be done at her house.
Sandra, do you come home right after the surgery? I know what you mean about crutches, I don't like them either. A walker is probably easier to handle.
Okay, I better do something with my hair before I let anyone see me today. I want to do my floor exercises too, to try to ease my back. Hope it's a good day out there for all.
Good morning- sunny and bright out and like Saundra mentioned finally getting warmer temps - you know it's spring when the kids start biking. Yes dh just took little ds' bike down in the garage and he is out driving around the block and looking for his street buddies to bike with him - I know we will barely be able to get him indoors today to eat or do anything (which is why I was a mean old mom and FORCED him to do his dictee/homework for tomorrow before he went out!).
Vickie - I think my roast was about 4.5 pounds? And it should last a couple of days - depending on the teenager's appetite! And I sure hope dd and I eventually become friends - she is so challenging right now I can hardly imagine that!
As for dh - you're probably right - he said he was going to talk to her about the kids not answering the phone when it rings? (how lame is that?)...I of course went rank and said 'how about asking her why you don't get along with the kids...and why everytime I do something to help them out you get angry? You might as well tell her we're going to have a fight this saturday as I am driving big ds and equipment to downtown club and back!" - I think he got the picture - and maybe he did speak to her about this - and I sure hope she told him it was perfectly okay for me to do things for my kids now and then? (even tho they are not entirely appreciative!). I might ask him about it later if the opportunity arises?
Saundra - Definitely try the froufie roast - you will not be disappointed (actaully I think I originally got the recipe from 'second helpings' an old jewish cookbook making the rounds in Montreal many years ago!).
I saw "where the truth lies' a couple weeks ago - movie was good - but book is of course WAY BETTER (by rupert holmes) - if you are a reader I suggest having a look for it. Sorry about your back tho and hope it is feeling better today.
And yes Vickie I am a vertically challenged (short) froufie - and I looked up spleen on the internet - no I am not a medical genius aware of all my body organs! ha ha ha. Stomach area felt a bit better this morning but as soon as I ate (too much?) I again felt a bit of pain/pressure in that area - wearing non-constricting clothing today to see if this helps - very weird? Could it be a hernia thing? on the left side? I guess I'll wait and see what happens and if it does not improve will go see dr?
No big plans today - but I did bring work home - some insane key commitments thing/workplan and goals doocument - of course they change format/info every year - and it's all the same garbage - I am trying to fill it out but it just doesn't make any sense and I am getting very frustrated! Have a meeting at 11 am tomorrow to review with my manager and let's just say I am ill-prepared. I hope after our meeting I can then revise the docs - what a pain in the @#$#@@#$ (and not a fun way to spend sunday).
House is clean cuz cleaning lady was here yesterday!...and big ds gone to work and dd at her dad's place so it might actually stay clean for another 8 hours or so!
Not feeling motivated to eat properly or exercise by the way - feeling blah!
Ok....so where is Kathy? She hasn't been around for more than 24 hours and that isn't like her. Kath, I hope all is well.
Frouf, when I was having the hiatel hernia problem (on the left side right in the area you described), I'd sit with my thumb in the waistband of my pants trying to keep it from digging into that area. It bothered me even though I was only wearing elastic waist pants. I'd also notice that if I'd eat more than a small amount of food, I'd feel the discomfort. It wasn't stabbing pain, just achey and uncomfortable. Of course, mine is not a bad one. I hope it's nothing but I'd get it checked out if I were you. Especially with all the stress that you have. You really made me appreciate retirement again. I remember having to bring stuff home and work on it over the weekend. It stunk! And, we'd have the same stupid stuff to deal with. Why do they feel they have to tweak that stuff every year? Who are they kidding? Everyone knows it's the same old stuff in a new outfit! How's DH today? Back to normal. Be careful if you decide to poke the sleeping lion!
Saundra, I HATE car problems! I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's an easy fix for you guys. Our car will be under warranty until 2010 since we had to buy a new one last year after ours was totalled. I'm hoping to always keep it under warranty. I hadn't heard of either of those movies but that's no surprise. Jim and I hardly ever go to the show or rent. I'm guessing we'll be doing more of that when he's had his shoulder surgery. Your day sounds delightful. I hope you are out enjoying it now!
Jim just went to get us lunch. I wanted a great medium rare sirloin burger. I try not to eat meat the day before weigh in but I'm craving it. Damn TOM! I couldn't face another can of soup.
Tomorrow through Wednesday is really busy for us. I need to think about my cooking plans for those days.
