Zelma - Sorry to hear that you are sick. It seems that if it isn't one thing, then it is another! I hope with some rest over the weekend you will be feeling better.

I went to the gym tonight, and even dragged along a co-worker! She has been working way to much and needs to get out of the office eariler. I did 35 minutes on the treadmill, which brings my total to 830.

The new group total is 9598 + 35 = 9633! We are definitely going to make 10,000!

What speed do all of you treadmillers use? I was doing 2.5 mph today...and I don't know if that's good, bad, or whatever.....

Kayley, I'm not that great at conversions, but I'll give it a go. I try to sit at a minimum of 7.5/7.8km/h, which is around 4.5mph I think. But don't forget that I have been using the treadmill for almost a year now, and I had to build up to this speed. Now and then I sit higher, and now and then I 'interval', so I go up to 8.5 or 9km/h (max 5.4mph) for a minute or so before going back down.

When I started, I found I was pushing to do 4.5km/h, which is about 2.7mph. So I'd say you are doing just fine for now.

Keep it up!

Zelma

Today I just took the dogs for a short but brisk, 10 min walk...

As for treadmill... I think everyone will be different, and it will depend on your goals... endurance, weight loss, etc. For weight loss I think you don't want to go too fast, esp at first!

I had got my speed up to 3.5-3.7 mph for much of my walk (after several months). But I've dropped the speed and added incline (to stay within a target heart zone and hopefully burn more fat). I'd say now I walk at 3-3.2 mph for most of the walk, at an incline of 3-4%. After I get used to that, I'll start bumping the speed up again, at the incline.... unless I come up with some other idea. I think 2.5 is great if you're getting started. I don't think you want to push too fast until you're ready, but maybe ever week or 2 or 3 bump it up another .1 mph?

Anyway, the new group total is 9598 + 10 = 9608!!

Another day where I am proud of my exercise... not the amount I did, but the fact that I didn't push myself to do more. I actually checked with hubby that he agreed it was OK to only do 25 mins on the bike a little while ago. Of course he said "of course". He wants me to be careful as well. I'm not even sure why I asked for confirmation. I KNOW that I shouldn't do more than this, especially while I am not well, and even after that. Two sessions a day of 25 mins and 10 or 15 mins of resistance training every other day should be plenty. I just have to keep telling myself that.

I also did LOTS of walking around shopping centres today. Two major shopping centres with hubby in the morning and another one in the afternoon with a friend (11 year old dear sweet daughter of my dietitian friend) while we shopped for a birthday present for her mother as well as a few other things. So I know I've been active enough today. I can back off on the guilts soon I hope.

So... 25 mins on treadmill in morning and 25 mins on exercise bike in afternoon.

Personal Goal... 170 - 50 = 120 (goal for Feb is 2050... should still be no problem doing 120 mins in 3 days)

Group Total... 9608 + 50 = 9658

10,000 is looking SO easy now everyone.

Take care,

Zelma

Hi everyone

I like the new avatars that you all have . Maybe one day soon I'll take a decent picture of myself and put it up.

Yesterday I exercised for 120 minutes. Yay for me. So that makes the group total:

9658 + 120 = 9778

Not bad Chickies! Not bad at all.

Zelma, you have no reason to feel guilty, but I understand...it's habit, and you feel like you are slacking if you don't push and push and push. You've done so fantastic, and I would hate to see you injured for a period of time because of pushing your body too hard. But glad you are toning it down a bit.

I have to be off to work in a few hours, but wanted to get some exercise in, of course! This is also my 5th day straight, so I'm pretty happy about that...I did:
~15 mins "Dance off the Inches"
~20 mins Treadmill...starting speed at 2.1 to warm up, and then gradually inclined to 2.7/2.8 towards the end...having most of the time at a speed of2.5/2.6
So 35 mins for me today....9778+35=9813!!!!

Thanks for all your input, ladies!

Even though I've been feeling so depressed/angry all morning, I figured I should work out, since I'm not going to be able to tomorrow...
I only did 15 minutes on the treadmill...I feel so weak from feeling like this.

10,083+15=10,098

I did a lot of walking yesterday for errands, shopping and going to the mall and was pretty beat when I got home. Since I didn’t get my heart rate up I will just call it 15 minutes, although it was actually a lot more. Although I was tired at the end, the good thing was that it took a much longer time for me to get tired. My personal total is now 845.

The group total is 10,098 + 15 = 10,113

I went to the gym and did the weights and treadmill -- even warmed up a bit on the elliptical... 55 mins total...

The group total is 10,113 + 55 = 10,168 OVER 10,000 minutes!!

Start thinking about your March goals! I'll set up a thread for March exercise

Tonight I walked for 10 minutes and then did 10 minutes of lifting weights and stretching. That puts my personal total at 865.

The group total is now 10,168 + 20 = 10,188!

Well, I have a couple of days to report on.

Sunday - 65 mins walk with hubby (little slower than last time and much shorter), 25 mins on exercise bike and 10 mins of resistance training
Monday - 25 mins treadmill, 25 mins bike

So... total of 150 mins

Personal Goal... 120 - 150 = +30 (30 mins above goal of 2050)

Group Total... 10,188 + 150 = 10,338

Happy moving all!

Take care,

Zelma

Hi,

I didn't exercise at all last week, too lazy and the kids were off school. But back on track today. I did 30 minutes of my Salsasize.

Group Total = 10,338 + 30 = 10,368

Hugs,

Ammi
