How does the fat/carb blocker work and when are you allowed to use it?

My counselor just mentioned this today. She said it is good to use when you are eating out and unsure about any "extras" that might be in your meal (hidden fat or carbs). Supposedly the pills block a certain amount of fat and carbs to help you stay on plan. I think you can only use for one meal a day. She said not to take the flax oil with the carb blocker, as you don't want the pill to block that oil. Take the flax at bedtime instead.

Someone correct me if I'm passing out bad information!!!

GINA: You ROCK!!! :carrot:What are you doing to celebrate this huge milestone? I hope you treat yourself to something fantastic, like a beauty treatment or new outfit.

I just cannot seem to get it under control. I need to get serious. So I am right there with you Crystal.

So sorry about your dog - my daughter lost her cat this week so I know just what you're talking about.

The lobby was super crowded today & our 100 lb board is out of the hall & in the classroom. They had just started a new food instruction class, so I got to sign in front of about 10 new people. I hope that will give them the motivation during the rough patches. Not everyone knows about our amazing support group! Thanks group  I couldn't have done it without all the support from this forum!!!

That's GREAT, Gina! Those lucky newbies, to have seen you - what incredible motivation for them!

Good to see you back Crystal, I remember you and I joined the same time. What if we have our own little "throw down"? That will give us some inspiration to be accountable.

Bonnie - I was just thinking about you today & wondering how you're doing! All I can say is don't let those 4 lbs invite any of their friends - the more there are, the harder they are to shoo away! Good for you for getting to for weigh-ins, tho -- I didn't do that during my year of maintenance - looking back, big mistake....
Welcome back!

One thing to remember about the "carb" blocker is that it's a starch blocker, NOT sugar. So it might help a little if your indulgence is something like a bunch of bread or a piece of cake, but not if it's something like ice cream or a couple of regular sodas. And they're minimally effective.

Gina - Wow!!!!

Gina: CONGRATULATIONS on the 100 lb board! That is absolutely wonderful! I agree that those 10 newbies were likely SOO inspired to see such a success story! I'm definitely inspired - and this board is SUCH a great source of motivation. As always, I'm grateful to be a part of this crowd.

By the way - I went to WI today and was down 1 lb...I was excited because after losing 4 last week, I was not expecting too much. The bad news is that I had my first fall off the wagon today watching the GA/TENN game. Ugh. I had 4-5 buffalo wings...a few chips w/ some sort of mexican dip...a bunch of raw veggies, which were fine - but the homemade ranch dip? Not so fine. I also had one Michelob Ultra. I am SO irritated with myself. I did drink about a gallon of water all throughout. Also took the carb/fat blocker, but have great doubt as to what that does, if anything. Oh well - can't be perfect. Life isn't perfect - and I'm back OP as of RIGHT NOW. Still, I needed to admit this to you guys, a confession of sorts. Oh well...back on the horse tomorrow!

Congrats again Gina!

Hi Everyone, Seems lately I have been only been posting about once a week. Life is hectic, work is stressful right now and I know I have been stress eating.

I gained 6 lbs being off P over the last week, then finally lost 1 so I am finally down 15. It is so dang difficult doing this via the phone. Some days I think I just can't do this and stay OP. I am good all day at work, then pow, when I get home... it starts (maybe should stay at work? lol).. Anyway, you all have a great week and I hope to be checking in more often this coming week.

Hi Auntie Weiz! I've been having trouble with stress eating, too, in recent months. It seems to come and go, and when I'm having trouble with it, I'm generally fine until I get home at the end of the day. I haven't figured out the solution, but I do know this: I am so much healthier by following this plan for only two meals a day than I would be if I weren't doing it at all. Hang in there. 15 pounds is great! You've already lost half of my beagle!

Rosemary-Don't beat yourself up over the buffalo wings. Tailgates/game days are a challenge, but it sounds like you've already made your u-turn. Great job, too, on getting in your water!

Rosemary-
I think that is the key when we fall off the wagon to get back OP the next meal. We did our favorite mexican last night and I broke down and had a Mini Marg, and ended up eating 2 tortilla's! The rest of my meal was OP but I couldn't resist. We'll see that the fat/carb blocker does by Tuesday.

Thanks! I was pretty amazed when I realized that I had survived this week relatively unscathed.

I had a revelation after my morning meeting with my boss. She's been growing increasingly unstable over the past four months, and there have been some organizational changes at work during that time. I had realized during this time that she was becoming extremely possessive of me and had even started isolating me from some of her coworkers, but in a lightbulb moment today I realized that her beef with me is that she is intimidated by my weight loss! I just put it together that her attitude toward me began changing after I had been on MRC about a month.

She rarely has positive things to say, and she's said several snarky things about my sudden "weird/crazy" eating habits over the summer, but I had simply chalked these comments up to her being insecure about everything. But one of the things she did on her tirade was ban me from consuming any food at work, which was weird because I hadn't been consuming food at work. She became very defensive today, though, when I mentioned that I never bought snacks at the theater--she assumed I was criticizing her food choices, when I was simply saying that growing up my parents never let us have theater snacks and I now felt guilty for splurging on them!

I'm not quite sure how to go from here. I'm certainly not giving up my healthy eating habits for her, but for my own sanity I need to figure out a way to make her feel less judged/self-conscious about her own.

Wow.... I'm not even sure what to say. She seems very unstable and irrational. No, you can't give up your healthy eating habits for her, but you definitely do need to find a way to get through this without it breaking you down mentally. I'd say have a honest talk with her about how these comments/actions make you feel but I don't know if she's in a place you can do that. It sounds like you have to deal with her on a daily basis then? Gosh... tough one. I'm still thinking..... but feel for you.

What kind of job do you do that you would be banned from consuming food at work? That seems irrational in and of itself.

You can't give up your healthy eating habits for her. Is there any way that you can avoid talking to her about food at all? Unless you have a really good relationship with her talking to her about it might backfire.

I feel for you having to deal with the added absurdity of having someone that is not only no supportive, but who is actively sabotaging you in your every day life. Hang in there...you are SO CLOSE!!

I hope everyone had a great weekend!

I went to WI this morning and was down 2.5 pounds since last Thursday. That is the most I have ever lost in a weigh in since I go twice a week. I was pretty excited about that! I am 1/2 pound away from being able to sign the 30 pound board. I would hope that I can easily make it on Thursday.
