Default Chinese Food

Julie, this may be too late for you for tonight's dinner, but I hope you can use it in the future.

From the Free to Live Binder:

Chinese food is a great option for dining out since many of the dishes can be prepared by steaming. Also, the oil previously used in Chinese cooking was pork fat - but now peanut oil which is high in monounsaturated fatty acids (the good fats) and sesame oil which is high in polyunsaturated fatty acids (also a good fat) are used.

However, Chinese food can also be high in fat when prepared by deep frying or stir frying. Any item prepared crispy or golden brown is not a good choice.

Some tips while dining Chinese style:
Sauces - Can be high in sodium, such as soy sauce. Ask for low sodium soy sauce, and foods to be prepared without MSG (monosodium glutenate)! Keep in mind, sauces and marinades, though low in calories, may be high in sugar.

Soups - Be expecially careful of soups, they can be high in sodium. Hve a small cup of soup if you enjoy it.

Noodles - Try not to let the "crunchy" noodles reach the table!

Appetizer - Choose steamed vegetable dumplings or teriyaki beef/chicken for an appetizer.

Main Course - Choose seafood and veggies as a main course. Tofu or bean curd are also both good protein choices. Order steamed dishes when possible.

Side Dishes - Rice and noodles are available as healthy carbohydrate choices. Ask for these items to be steamed and for sauces on the side. Most Chinese restaurants also have brown rice available.

Dessert - Pineapple or orange slices are great dessert choices.

Beverage - Always drink wather throughout the meal.

Wrap extras to take home.

Yes:
Steamed Dumplings
Steamed Chicken and Mixed Vegetables
Steamed Whole Fish
Brown Rice
Fortune Cookies

No:
Egg Rolls
Fried Wontons
Cold Noodles
General Tsos Chicken
Spareribs

At the center today they gave us a Holiday Menu that has holes punched in the side but it is a LOT bigger than the Free to Live binder. I guess I'm going to have to take it in to Office Depot and find a binder to fit it. It isn't large enough to fit into a regular-sized binder.

Beanie

it is a new menu planning( i guess that is what you call it), the one that has the food guide in it and such. the words are bigger and it is just a nicer book.

i am glad they decided to do something. i feel like the new person actually wants to help so that is nice.

i remember someone else making a comment that they must not pay them much there, and i know for a fact that they pay them CRAP, so it is no wonder they are leaving.

Regina: Love the new avatar. Very festive. Thanks for posting that info for Julie and for us to read. I go to a corporate center, and they have never heard of Free to Live binder. Anyone have 1 to spare?

I'm going to have to try the coconut almond bars again because I can't believe they were as bad as I thought if others like them? Maybe they'll grow on me? Or, I may have found that there is 1 thing in life that I can truely say that I don't like? I don't find many of those, LOL!

Julie: You'll do fine going out with DB and SIL, you always seem to make such good choices.

Suzanne: Welcome! Know anyone of the Fromm's from Calgary?

Congrats to all the losers.

What is a size 4? Can't remember who wrote that, but way to go!

Check back later. Hugs, Sy

Hi Suzanne and

You do not have to pay for the lites up front. you do get a bulk rate for paying up front, but you can pay for smaller amounts too and still get some kind of bulk rate becaus ei think someone on here does that.

they should show you a couple of plans for paying for the lites, so you can pick what you can afford right now. also there are sometimes specials were you can get some of the lites on sale and where you can get coupons you can use to buy lites.

You an also substitute luna bars for the lites (but don't tell the center) and you can get those from your local grocery store for cheaper.

Do whats best for you, but you seemed frustrated about having to by the lites up front, so just wanted to let you know.

There is alot of info about cheaper versions of the supplements and lites and take-off juice and other stuff on the boards, so I suggest you look through them before making any major purchases.

i found this board a few weeks after i started and hate that I paid for all of those lites up front...the chicks here are soooo resourceful

OK guys I have an event to go to thats only supposed to have houderves (sp?) so i should do good , but cross your fingers for me

I have also looked on Ebay. don't tell the center that you are doing that either cause they frown on that.

i found the bars help alittle but i have been tempted to try the luna's and see how those taste.

good luck tonight at your get together.

Hey ladies!!

I've been gone all day so, I'm trying to keep up with you all! I am just on page 8, so let me respond really quick and then go play catch up.

Katie, and Julie,
Hi! I do aerobics anytime our friends, their friends, or whomever can join me. We don't do nothing but either the firm, slim in 6, or turbo jam. If it's late, it'll be turbo jam, because it makes us feel "younger" like we're partying back in the basement again for old times sake!! Well, let me go sell my car to this lady who's at the door, and I'll read all the other posts, and write back later!

Hello to all the ladies!

Out to a jewelry party....hopefully not a lot of tempties! The friend who introduced me to LA is going with, so we will have support and pep talks during the 45 min drive each way.

Am I wrong, or does it vary.....in order to get my 1/2 of the $ back I HAVE to have 2 of the LA bars/lites per day? I know that this is where they really make their money. I will check out other places as well. The bars are similar to some I tried a few yrs ago with a Dr program. The only problem was that you only saw him 1x/month. I guess the outlay of $$ and the multiple WI's will keep one on track. Have a great eve!

Default Hello!!

I went to my personal success visit, and am down 5.2 lbs. I think I may have made the couselor mad because I decided not to buy the lites. I know that they help w/ the chocolate cravings, but we just can't afford it right now. She moved me to the red plan w/o the lites. The way it was explained to me was that it was not mandatory to lose the weight. She did say that they will not guarantee the 2 lbs a week lost. I just wonder (someone else mentioned it earlier), will I still get my refund during maintenace?

Tiffany: I'm proud of you for not choosing the LA Lites, and they are NOT mandatory in order to lose weight. You can lose weight without them, very successfully as MetalChic/Karen if proof of that. The counselor wasn't mad at you, she/he was mad that they couldn't convince you of a bulk purchase of the LA Lites. They work on comission a newbie purchasing LA Lites in bulk is a huge score for them. Don't worry about not getting 1/2 your money back because you would have paid way more than that purchasing the Lites.

Slim: Did you sell the car?

Jlynn1: How was the jewelry party? I just got an invitation in the mail on Friday. I love jewelry but always seem to wear the same things.

I'm off to get ready for the farmer's market. Have a POP day, I'm hoping to myself.

morning, chicks!

Regina, thanks for posting that info - I really *wish* LAWL could get it's stuff together, and all it's centers have the same stuff!

It turned out no chinese last night, but instead fish, stove-top stuffing (only 2 tbsp), veg and blueberry pie - oh my -- so I ate mainly the blueberries, and tried to stay away from the crust - and all in all did okay. Not stellar, but okay.

About luna's -- the thing I like about luna's is that there is more variety in flavors - and they are slightly bigger than a lite, so there's more chewing!

About the rebate - I've put my contract somewhere so I don't remember what it says, but check it to see what the terms are. .. that's what they have to go by, not what the counselors say. If there's a difference, and the counselors say something to your benefit - try to get it in writing. I still have a long way to go before I have to worry about that - since it doesn't happen until maintainence - and, also, since I don't always go to the center 3x a week, not sure if I'm still eligable, anyway. However -if the contract states lites are required, then Sy is right, you'd end up spending more on the lites than the rebate, probably.

Tiffany - WTG on the FIVE pound + loss! What did you get at the jewelry show??

Suzanne -welcome!

Beanie -there is a new menu planner - it has an 05 date on the back - I just got mine a couple of weeks ago - it has little dots next to choices that are higher in sugar or sodium (the ones we shouldn't choose as much of) -- also the portion sizes are slightly different - 1/2 c for brown rice, 1/3 c for white rice.

Shennie -how did your event go?

Deets - did they move you to gold for a trial run? What size where you when you started out??

Sy - I truly thought the new coconut ones where awful - but I'm not a coconut fan (consider the source, as Deets said)

JLynn - what exercise tape do you do?

Sally, what's in the recipe for eggnog - maybe we can figure out something?

Angel - what's in the survival pack? I've never bought one.

Hi Katie! Are you talking about the Holiday booklet that has the holiday survival tips in it?

Sorry if I missed anyone!
Julie

When I started LAWL I was in 8's, but in the beginning of my journey TWO YEARS AGO after my last child was born, I was so happy 6wks post partum to be wearing size 18-20 jeans. Its a long road.

Tiffany, congrats!

Julie, I didn't get the recipe since it used their Vanilla Lites. It was one of those, a little rum, nutmeg, and I don't remember what else. I'll try to get it at WI today.

Had something really good last night, a modification of an old recipe I had. Make hamburger patties the correct weight, and put each one on a big square of foil. Sprinkle with lite salt and Spike (or other seasonings). Top with whatever amount thinly sliced onion and baby carrots that you can have. Seal the foil well, leaving enough space for steam expansion. Bake at 375 degrees for an hour. Yummy! My old recipe called it Hobo Burgers and called for slices of potato, and to dot each with butter. I just left those out.
