So glad I found this forum. Been on hundreds of diets over the last 40 years but believing IP is the one for me. Been on the plan for almost 6 weeks now and have lost 30 lbs. It's going to be a long journey to get to my goal weight and maybe beyond! Thanks for your encouragement and direction.
Welcome! Like you I'm so glad I found this program. Though I "know" so much about food and weight loss being a lifetime yo-yo'er I never really understood the effect carbs have regarding fat storage. I'm a firm believer in the program and know that a lower carb diet will be a lifelong path for me! I'm looking forward to watching the scale continue to move down for us both!
I reviewed these tips and understand how to quote but how do you include a multi-quote? I tried clicking the multi quote button but then what do I do?
Thanks for the help!

Well back home from camp and I am proud to say that I did not cheat...did not even lick a chip although I did sniff a few...lol
I walked everyday, went on the lake with my kayak and also went on stand up board everyday.
It was easier I find to say no this weekend when everyone was going around the fire with junk food...well as for the alcohol...I dont drink so that part isbsuper easy for me.
L13 - *raises hand* we're heading off for some camping this weekend too with DH's family on his uncles farm. Tons of junk and booze to be available - I am taking my world famous deviled eggs (low carb, but not IP-friendly...and yes, I am planning to indulge) and there will be hamburgers and hot dogs. Taking a bag of goodies too when I need something sweet while everyone has s'mores - and the cooler will be packed with veggies. We got this lady!
Oh - and I don't think I've ever said anything out loud to my scale, but some of the stuff that runs through my head when I see the number sometimes would put a Navy sailors vocabulary to shame [/QUOTE]
I hope you had a great IP weekend! My scale and I have this love hate relationship...lol

i will try to figure out how to put a picture...fair warning...it is not a preety sight. When my daughter, who is now 15, looks at these picutres of us during those days she says....is that really you. I lost my first 50 lbs be myself, then 50 (took lots of tme)with ww but after that...no matter what i did the scale would not move. So i heard about ip...and then discoverd this site...
I know that if i follow the program it will work...eventhough i had a bad stretch i am learning from it and decided that i did not want to cheat myself out of being healthy.
Day 20 and proud to say that i have not cheated...i am committed...i wrote it on this site and i am gonna do it!
Have a great week ladies...for me it is back to school tomorrow.
Good morning all! I took a little hiatus over the summer (I went off IP in April) since then I've been lifting heavy weights 4-5 days per week, eating healthy, tracking everything in MFP and living life. I gained 20 lbs since April eating 1300-1700 calories per day! I recently found out I have adrenal fatigue which has led to low thyroid function. So, while I get all of that sorted out I'm back on IP to deal with the weight issue. I'm using partial alternatives as I have to be GF for the thyroid issue and there isn't a lot of GF IP options. I look forward to losing with everyone again!
Kimo/Kira !!!! Yay!!!!! So happy to hear from you.
Maintenance is hard to work out isn't it?
So glad that you figured out about the thyroid. I figured out the thryoid issue at the beginning of IP Phase 1 and it made a tremendous difference, but at the end of P1 going into P4 I started to have weight gain and similar issues, and they had to raise the thyroid and also my progesterone. I was up about 15 lbs but am 3 weeks into a reboot and back down 12 lbs. I just posted over in the Maintenance thread about a few things I've learned.

Thanks Amber! I'm glad to be back. I'm happy to see you're still here too! I always loved your posts! Congrats on the loss! That's unfortunate about the weight gain that preceded it though. Currently they're working on the adrenal fatigue for me, then they can address the hypothyroidism. I'll have to check your post in the maintenance thread. Hopefully the get you figured out so that you can actually maintain in maintenance...it's so frustrating!

Yes.
I did fairly well until July, with some bumps here and there, but then had a sudden uptick on the scale that I wasn't comfortable with.
Definitely maintenance takes some trial and error - I'm still learning what my body can handle, esp. with exercise added in.
Kimo - I know you didn't ask for advise but an FYI - Google "hypothyroidism and soy" / "hypothyroidism and goitrous vegetables"
My PCP warned me away from soy when I was diagnosed in 2008 and after my own research, also avoid non cooked goitrous vegetables 80 - 90% of the time.
I tried IP almost a year ago. And then life got in the way. Now a year later I've been through a nasty break up with my partner of 6 years. He basically told me my weight gain had a lot to do with his lack of interest in me anymore.
So here I am, ready to start again. However, I'm using my own alternative products. I bought the EAS Carb Advantage to begin with.
Beth, thank you for that info!! Even if I don't ask for advice I'm ALWAYS willing to take it! Especially since this is fairly new to me. Now, I have to figure out what IP products have soy in them. Sounds like quite a few do though. I'll be scouring the alternatives thread for sure now!
Amanda, welcome to the forum! I'm sorry to hear about your ex partner...that's a pretty terrible thing to say to someone. Oh well, on to the next (hopefully better) chapter of your life!

Welcome, Amanda! So sorry about the breakup, but maybe it's for the best. I've always believed that if a man's love is based on your weight, he's too shallow for a real relationship.
I've never done "real" IP, at a clinic. I started on June 8, with EAS shakes, just like you, and then started trying alternative products from Nashua Nutrition. As of yesterday, after exactly 3 months on the protocol, I've lost 42 pounds. Alternatives work!
