The latest updated protocol is now posted under the phases thread. Some of the veggies changed and the meat portion can be bigger.

Thanks for your inspiring post. I just had my second weigh in on Friday, and it's amazing how quickly we get caught up with certain expectations. I would have been thrilled with a 2.5 lb loss when I was doing weight watchers. Somehow I was somewhat disappointed with 2.5 on IP. Why do we do this to ourselves?

I'm going to commit to hiding the scale this week. Whenever I want to weigh myself, I'm going to drink water instead. I also pledge to get outside more since it will be light enough to walk after work.

I'm in week 8. My losses have been 5, 4, 3, .5, .5. 2, 0. We have to turn in our journals every week and those are scrutinized by the local IP sales rep - who then has the Dr. call us at home and tell us what we're not doing right. They get confused, they forget some of my medical history and things that we've already discussed she brings up again as if we never talked about them. I'm constantly explaining myself, they make me feel like a child. I hate going there. I started to lose steam 3 weeks ago, I just felt crappy about going in to the office, I started to question the program, I ate more protein than I should - never ate foods off program, just more than I should. I started this diet (my coach is my cardiologist) because my blood pressure was 180/110. Three weeks in she checked my blood pressure again (right after picking a fight with me) and it was still 150/90. She yelled that this program probably wasn't going to help me, that I was obviously a Type A personality - told me I should get therapy - then closed the door and proceeded to tell me that she was now in therapy for the first time in her life because she was having marital problems !! - I'm not a type A, am no stranger to therapy. Anyway, I have had minimal weight loss the last 3 weeks (3 lbs. and some inches) but when they took my blood pressure yesterday it has come down to 120/80. I was euphoric, so happy. They were pleased for my BP victory, but told me that if I didn't lose 3 lbs a week from now on, they're going to "terminate" me. It's all I can do to remain positive and try to convince myself that this diet is for me - not for them. And not for them to make me feel like s***.

I can't believe they allow people like that to be a coach! I think I would have told her when she started talking about herself that this wasn't the place or time...this isn't about her but you. And I won't even say what I would have been tempted to say....

Is there no way you can find another coach at another facility? I would be out of there faster than they could shake a stick. If you're like me, you've probably already tried most everything offered out there and this was yet another try. We're hard enough on ourselves without adding humiliation from someone who's supposed to be helping me. Congrats on your BP reduction...I can't believe it actually showed it went down after all you endure there. Please try and find another place to go for your own sanity and self-esteem.

Sorry if this sounds like a rant but I'm so tired of people thinking they're so much better than us for whatever reason. We're all here for a reason, no matter our shape or size.....and we all count for something good. Be a little kinder to yourself and get rid of this bad penny.

Hugs,

Mary

Hello fellow Ipers, I hope you have a wonderful sunday! Today I decided to include yoga and strechng to my routine. Nothing too much just to lean my muscle a little!

I have to confess, on Friday night I had a huge cheat :( Now this is behind me and OP for the rest of my weight loss ( I HOPE!)

mamarix1 03-13-2011 12:20 PM

exercise

I asked my nurse about exercise and she said it was ok after week 5. I haven't gone to the gym since I have been working in the yard, clean steamed the carpets, etc. (mom is coming on Wed.)
But, ya'll said not to exercise and I trust you more than I trust the clinic!
My scale is broken, I have to weigh everyday, I did weigh in the middle of the night when I got up to pee. I know, I'm obsessive! So I'm off to WalMart for a new one.
On a side note, I have noticed that the days that the scale moves is when I've had some extra protein the night before. Anyone else notice this? I have grilled chicken breast in the frig. for emergencies and since my husband cannot and won't cook, it's always there. It used to be a big pot of meatballs in marinara, now it's grilled chicken. My how times have changed.
Everyone have a great day. Happy Spring Forward. It won't be long now and it should warm up.:encore:

If I was you, I would report this poor treatment to Ideal Protein in Canada. They should know how their reps are treating clients. It's not acceptable!

Maybe try to prepare some bags of measured veggies, drink your water. and tell yourself each day that you can and will do this. You are human, you will make mistakes, and if you do, you face the consequences, the diet will take longer, cost more, and getting back on plan is harder then staying on plan. Just keep going with the diet, you will get there. Stay away from the sugar and carbs that will knock you right out of Ketosis.
Maybe you just feel the need to cheat?
Try chopping up the bars into 3rds-4ths, freeze and have a little piece, when you need something "cheat like"- but that bar would be your restricted packet-you can have up to 4 packets total per day. Maybe try to put a teaspoon of Parmesan cheese on your food. Its really not permitted- but if it keeps you on plan with little impact. Even a bar for my evening snack keeps me in line. Make the diet work for you, while you are adjusting. The worst thing you could do is stop trying.

I've got 10-15 pounds to go and it feels like the last bit of weight loss is now crawling off. I'm still sticking with protocol but feeling on and off discouraged and today is just one of those days. I want the 120's just gotta take it one day at at time.

You have been doing so great keep up the great job you are doing.

I had 2 good things happen today..
First I was in the 150's... (Barely) this morning!!
(Woo hoo 5 1/2 weeks on IP lost 23)
Second, going through all my clothes ..none of my bigger jeans fit(they were super tight when I started IP) one pair of 14's fit, so that was good news considering I was a tight 16 over 5 weeks ago. But I went to kohls to try on and get one more pair of jeans and the 14's were a little big , so I bought some 12's. I can't believe it! The 12's fit, but will be super comfy in a few pounds. This really works.. It gets easier as time goes on...

Congrats that is awesome keep it up. :bravo:

Hey everyone, just got home from a girls mini getaway and trying to catch up here. I am wondering if I can toot my own horn here for a little as I had a HUGE NSV this weekend and want to share. There were 6 of us girls staying at a hotel/spa this weekend to celebrate some birthdays and I'm happy to report that I stayed 100% OP as I have since I started....I had not a drop of the wine being drank, none of the huge, surprise desert the restaurant brought to us to celebrate, NONE OF IT. My friends were all saying how proud they were of me and it felt so good :) To be honest, it wasn't even that hard, I'm so focused on what I need to do and as suspected, I really needed this kind of plan which is very structured and doesn't have much, if any, room for error. I ordered a chicken and spinach salad off the menu with no dressing, asked for oil and vinegar and drank nothing but water and STILL enjoyed myself. After dinner, everyone was complaining how full and bloated they felt yet I felt GREAT! And that was an awesome feeling :) I almost feel like I enjoyed myself that much more, simply because instead of focusing on food which I normally do, I really focused on the time I was spending with my girls :) Thanks for letting me share! Congrats to everyone on their successes this weekend and to the person with the ABUSIVE coach, she NEEDS to be reported NOW.

to brown or not to brown veggies!

[QUOTE=Gentlehyena;3755465]My weight loss has slowed to a crawl, in my 5th week. I don't have a coach but mentioned it at the Spa where I purchase my IP products and she thinks it is because I allow my vegetables to brown, when I saute or bake them. What do you think, anyone? I know I am not drinking all the water I should so that may be it too?? HELP. I feel discouragement creeping in..........

:book2:I have 1-2 zucchini sauteed til brown at least 5 days a week and have since I started the diet. This has been done on the weeks with my biggest weight losses and the weeks I had smaller ones or stayed the same.
In an ideal (no pun intended!) world we should probably eat our veggies raw, gently steamed or gently sauteed.

From the first time I browned them I asked my coach if this was "illegal" because they were so sweet and good. She laughed and said it was fine and they sounded delicious.

Because somewhere in me I have this "food issue", I asked her on at least 2 more occasions if she felt they could be a problem for me, and her answer was an emphatic, "No."

So the moral of the story for me is to take in all the info and do the best I can. If for right now browned sauteed zucchini is what helps me get through the day and this diet with the success I am having, I'm going for it, with a mindful eye on a commitment to improving my diet as my "food issues" improve one day, one meal at a time. Hope this helps.:dancer:

the stretch marks are on your face? If that's the case see if microderm abrasion will help. For your body there is a treatment that puts tiny holes into the skin, which makes the body heal itself. Try Yipit, Living Social, Groupon, Tippr, or spa finder to see about spa deals and read reviews. you can get really reasonable treatments for skin. Haven't seen any deals yet for the stretch mark treatment. Takes time too. Perhaps go for an airbrush tan. you can find some deals at the following sites for that too. Until then exfoliate, lotion up, and eat the jello.
You will look great with an airbush tan!

This is what I've planned with my coach so that I don't get overwhelmed and defeated with the big goal--20 lb chunks seem more attainable.
But I'm worried how long will this prolong my whole process? I tend to be a run/walk kind of person rather than a long slow jog. How hard is it mentally to "keep in the game" for (maybe) a year?

(about 3 months of phase 1, 3 months in the other 3 phases, repeat). you might be really surprised at how quickly you lose that 80-100 lbs if you stay on plan straight through. like i said, i've been on plan for only 9 weeks and i have lost almost 40 lbs. my goal is 75 lbs and i'm already half way there! i estimate that i should be done by june. it's really not that bad if you think about how long it actually took you to put the weight on. for me it took 29 years to get as heavy as i was, but only 6 months to get thin. not a bad trade-off.

I wasn't loosing that fast to begin with but I slowed down due to a lack of following the program perfectly. I have lots of mini goals that keep me from being overwhelmed. I just met a milestone weight and got into the 170s. My next goal is 169.5. I also write down on a cheat list everything I want to eat on my cheat day when I'm done and it helps me not feel like I've said goodbye to it forever. I did that for Christmas and found that a lot of the cravings didn't appeal to me when the time came to have them.

My opinion is to stay on plan as long as you can and lose as much of the weight as possible as quickly as possible. I lost the first 40 in about 9 weeks. I was perfect protocol (not a single bite, lick, taste) off protocol for four months. Since then....I have had on and off times. I have not had trouble getting back on and I get into ketosis very quickly. I have continued to lose (just slower). I am taking on the mentality that this is a marathon not a race and I am learning how to have moments off and to jump right back on. I feel like I am changing my long-term eating habits. Any cheat I have planned I have stuck to it and have not extended it in any way shape or form. I think when you have a large amount of weight to lose (I had 80ish) it is difficult. It felt so easy for the first four months and I thought I would be done by now, but again I have learned such good habits and anytime I have planned to go off...I am back on as planned. This will be my last diet ever.

sounds great! I will have to try that. I like garlic, sea salt, pepper, and just our allowed EVOO makes it feel less "healthy" I love it.

My mom also bakes the zucchini with marinera and a bit or paramajan cheese. So I slice the Zucchini use a small bit of WF marinara sauce and a maybe a teaspon or graded cheese.

hollybear1 03-13-2011 04:02 PM

In NJ all of the highway farm markets have a huge variety WF like a separate stand for all of the different products. Turns out WF is packaged in Linden NJ, 10 min from me. Guess that why I have a large selection.

I have tried the peanut butter on celery and it was just wrong. Has anyone found anything useful to do with it.

I also got apple butter, not bad. I think it would be a great way to sweeten up a meal and shakes. My mom used to put apple butter on our chicken nuggets as kids. So perhaps I will try with chicken? or an asian inspired dish?

I also got WF marinera, scampi sauce, Asian salad dressing is great and just got sun dried tomato.

I enjoy picking up a new one each week. Something to get excited about while veggie shopping.
