Hello Chicks! I have also been missing in action for about a week. I took the job with the Probation, Parole and Pardon Board, I start right after the fourth of July. I went to eight graduation parties this weekend, and I would like to say that I stayed away from the bars and cakes and salads... but I can't. I didn't do as bad as I could have though... tonight will tell, I weigh in at 4:30 It has been two weeks since I last weighed in due to Memorial Day, and the two weeks before that I hadn't lost anything, so I am hoping...
I have to share a treat with you all, for Weight Watchers it's virtually free, but I count it as one point:
Ideal Rootbeer Float:
1 can diet Root Beer
1 scoop of frozen Cool Whip Free
That's it! Try it and enjoy! I'll post tomorrow to let you know how the WW went... bye!
I do a similar root beer float with diet root beer and 1/2c. serving of low fat vanilla ice cream-so the entire thing is usually 90-130 calories, depending on the brand of ice cream-and they are yummy!!!

Is this where you have general chatter? I'm having a wee insecurity. I posted exercise goals for June and now I'm worrying. I said I'd walk everyday!!!! I only have been going about 4 days a week. Goals make me nervous. I'm not much of a "follower througher".
On a better note .... I tried on the small blouse and size 7 shorts that have been hanging on the outside of my closet and they fit (kinda) I'd have to wear the blouse hanging over, but I could do it.
Aphil, had you had the rummage sale yet? Hope you're able to pick up some $$$ and gain some more space! Your daughter's dress sounds lovely, but pricey! I'm sure you'll be able to re-sell it.
silence, hang in there, girl! It is so hard at the beginning. You'll "get your groove" and then take off!
idealperson, congrats again on the new job! Wow, alot of grad parties you went to! Big family, or friends also?
Hi jacklyn! All over the pneumonia? Hope you're feeling recovered.
Hi zadie k! Yes, we all agree that the only answer is to eat less and exercise more. I'm also slightly suspect of the BMI - because we're all so individual. With my weight being 143-145, and height at 5"6", I'm sure it would say I could lose more pounds. But I wear size 6 and 8 jeans...we're all different.
Hi Kanola! Is this the week you have the BFL seminar? cool! Still putting the miles on your bike? Can you ride to work?
Kina, how are you doing? Hope you and your family are fine.
Snowey, thank you for the pictures link! I haven't looked at them yet, but will. I am so sorry that you're just not feeling well That is amazing that you dropped 5 of the 6 vacation pounds already!!!I hope you can find a GOOD doctor soon!
hi missymont! don't be afraid to be here, if you've "drifted" a bit. That's why we're here, to help (kick ) you along!
Hi GeorgiaLady! Hope everything's fine with you!
welcome also to rooround, and it's_my_life! you will find these ladies so wonderful, and they were the help/support I needed !
Last night my husband and I went for a nice, long motorcycle ride...and a deer hit my husband! It came from the left, and I immediately started to slow down, thinking, "watch out for the other one!" because they tend to run in pairs...then the dang deer just runs right into Joe's left leg.
We had been going about 60, so I guess we had slowed to at least 50 by then. I dont' know how he did it, but Joe managed to keep the bike upright. The deer clipped off and FLEW and spun like a frisbee in front of me, then landed by the side of the road. We pulled over, and once Joe ascertained that his leg wasn't broken (!) we went back to look for the deer; if it was dead, then we should report it to the Fish and Game warden. BUT it was gone, so I guess the poor thing was just dazed!
Joe has a lump the size of half a baseball on his leg, and it's pretty bruised. We are LUCKY that it did n't turn out much worse! Now Joe's laughing about what the deer is "telling" his relatives, back in the woods. "You wouldn't believe it, guys! I went to cross the road, and thought the traffic would stop for me, but this guy on a bike just ran into me! I flew like a freakin frisbee!"
Wow Holly...your husband is really lucky that he kept the bike up after hitting that deer, and that his leg wasn't hurt more seriously.
tooround-this isn't really a general chatter thread, it is a thread for those on balanced eating plans-calorie counting, points counting, exchange plans-nothing drastic like no carbs, etc. We are all commited to exercise and a healthy diet-no diet pills or anything like that.
The only thing I have to say about following through and sticking to your plan is this:
You are the only person who puts food into your mouth, and you are the only person who chooses whether or not you exercise. We tend to blame our families, holidays and vacations, our busy schedules, and so many other things-when it all comes down to it, you have to say "I am responsible for me." If I skip a day of exercise, or eat Twinkies...it is my fault, and noone elses.
Usually people struggle with their weight until something just "clicks." As Dr. Phil would say, before that revelation-their weight problems have just not cost you enough yet. When the cost of being overweight suddenly is larger than doing what measures it takes and making those sacrifices to get it under control, then you get the determination to follow through and succeed. For some of us it is a health problem that raises that cost, for others a sudden realization that they are tired of abusing their bodies, and for others a cruel comment or experience replaying in their mind my have finally made that "click." We all need to think about why we are doing what we are doing to better ourselves, and keep that up front in our minds.

Hello everyone! Just thought I'd check in...seeing that I haven't been posting lately. Yes Holly! I do believe that I am FINALLY over the sickness. I still have a cough but it is nothing like a few weeks ago. I was going to the gym and hitting the weights lightly because I still had a minimal amount of energy. However, this week I hit it hard and it felt great! I got up this morning before work to get on the bike and I plan on walking a couple of miles before hubby and I go to hit some golf balls. When I was soooo sick I made promise not to take my health for granted anymore!! I promised myself that I would get out and keep moving...not only for weight loss but for overall health!!
Aphil~I am a Dr. Phil fan as well. Did you happen to catch yesterday's show? It was on weight loss and how we have to make goals, plans of action, and make ourselves accountable to stick to our goals. By being accountable, he mentioned if we did not stick to the plan, try to imagine the "punishment" being going to work the next day without brushing your hair or wearing make-up!! That thought alone would make anyone accountable! Pretty good show.
Holly, I'm glad your husband is okay! That must have been scary to watch and try to maintain control at the same time.
Right now, my eating has slipped. I am back to taking this journey one day at a time. Yesterday was my first 100% on plan day in a long while. I am shooting for the same today. Wish me luck. Right now it's about 11:30 am and so far so good. Check in later!
Hello everyone--wow, what a close call with the deer, we have alot of that in Wisconsin and alot people don't live to tell about it...I usually hit one deer a year and it smucks up the SUV pretty badly.
Well, last night was weigh in and I lost 6#!!! It was for two weeks, but I am so pysched! I have only six more to reach my WW goal! I haven't been this light in over six years! My husband thinks I am "looking good" and I feel so much more energized and sexier. It is all worth it...thanks to everyone here for the support, this place is great and Aphil you are a world of wisdom!
Hello - Here at work and going well. I am still on plan still, which is unprecidented for me. Almost two weeks in a row! The exercise thing is not really going so well because my knee is messed up a little. I think meaybe I will switch to swimming for a while a give my knee a rest.
I can realate to the close encounter of the deer kind. Sometimes when I go to visit my parents in Wisconsin I see as many as 50 deer in a short stretch of road between Tomah and Adams. Sometimes there is just no way to avoid deer, especially at night. I have been lucky, but my parents hit one a couple of years back. Very scary stuff.
Ya know, I have never watched Dr. Phil, but I totally agree about it clicking. It was just that one day, after years of waffling and going on "kinda a diet but not really that only lasts for a couple of days" I finally just decided that I was on a diet, it was ok to tell people I was on a diet insted of hiding it, and that a diet actually takes effort. I am certain that it will get harder in some ways than it is now (once I hit a plateau), but so far the effort has been far outweighed by the rewards.
Hi-wow two posting from me in one day..
Zadie k- I live about 15 miles south of Tomah, so I know what you mean by all the deer, they are a real nuisance with my garden and driving at dusk is very dangerous.
I kept my dieting a secret for awhile until people started seing my weight loss-then I became proud that I could do this and be successful. Of course there are always those who will ridicule and hope you fail-just strive to prove them wrong! It was so great for me to see my skinny sister-in-laws, they had all put on weigh... they are asking me for advice now! Great feeling! Stick with it and you will reap rewards.
Hey everyone!
Just a quick note before I head to dance class...
I think the last few posts have been just wonderful, although I would like everyone here to throw the word "diet" out of their vocabularies, unless they are using it in the context of "I eat a healthy diet" or something like that.
Let's not use the phrase "I am on a diet." A diet in that sense means that you are following a certain plan and then stopping. Let's use the words "total lifestyle change" or "livng a healtheir lifestyle." The changes that we are making need to be kept up throughout the rest of our lives. My husband's friend goes on "a diet" about once a year, and loses 30-40 pounds each time. He then goes back to eating like he did before, and 6 months later all that weight is right back on...he always asks me how to keep his weight under control, and I tell him that he needs to make small changes that he can stick with for life, and take it slowly if he has to-rather than go super strict and stop as soon as he reaches a goal weight or size.
If you are not a water drinker-start by drinking 2 glasses a day in place of other beverages...then the next week up it to 3, and so on until you are at 8-10 glasses per day. If you struggle with hunger pangs and have trouble making it through the first few days of a healthier eating plan-start with small changes-omitting sugary sodas from your diet, or replacing a donut breakfast each day with oatmeal and fresh fruit or an egg and a slice of whole wheat toast unbuttered.
It will do you no good to go from eating unhealthily and never exercising to starting a strict diet and tons of exercise if you can only stick with it for a few days. If that seems to be your trouble, then start small and once you stick with a small change, add another.
When it comes down to it-it really doesn't matter if you prefer to dance or walk or do aerobics for your cardio exercise....or if you are calorie counting or points counting or doing a more structured eating plan...what counts the most is that you find what it is that you can stick with for life when it comes to your eating and exercise.
I let everyone know about my lifestyle, and some people in my life are supportive and others are "saboteurs," but it does help to get things out in the open. Don't apologize to Aunt Ruth for not eating a dish at a get together, and don't let anyone make you feel guilty for trying to better yourself.

Holly, I'm so glad you and your husband are alright after your "close encounter" with the deer. That had to be frightening!!
I tried the berry cobbler recipe with the Diet 7-up (I had to use Diet Sprite) and the Cool Whip Free. It was wonderful!! And that ended up being dinner for me tonight. Great idea!!
Has anyone tried the new GourMayo? There are 3 different flavors and they have only 50 cals per tbls. Kinda nice on a sandwich or as a dip.
Banquet had a new chicken patty that is non-fat and is only 100 cals each. I had two cut up on my salad today.
Also, the Blue Bunny 60 cal ice cream bars made with Spenda are not bad at all. I just love all these new products coming out that I can add to my "arsenal".

Good morning everyone!
Class was great last night-we have one last class to go to in our beginners class. They are skipping next week for some reason, and it is the next Tuesday. After that I move on to the "Continuing Belly Dance" class throughout the rest of June-August, where I will be learning to play finger cymbals in deeper depth, and some more advanced moves.
Our last beginners class is supposed to be pretty fun-they are trying to get a hold of a tribal drummer/percusionist for us to dance to live drumming...FUN!
I am really excited about moving on to the next level at the end of the month.
Georgia Lady-I have an "arsenal" of my own. I love coring an apple, and pouring a bit of cinnamon and Splenda down the hole, and microwaving it until it is cooked through. Reminds me of Cracker Barrel fried apples without any added calories or sugar-just 80-120 calories, depending on the size of your apple-be it small or large sized. The skin is a great source of fiber as well. I think it tastes best with Golden Delicious or Granny Smith Apples...the Red Delicious ones tend to have too tough a skin for this.
I also love fresh strawberries sliced thin in a cup of vanilla light yogurt-mixed up real well it is reminiscent of cheesecake to me-you can add a pinch of Splenda if you want it a touch sweeter.
My favorite summer standby is having my husband cook on the grill...he can make a large steak or burger for himself, and cook me up a great skinless chicken breast, or shrimp/peppers/onions type of a kabob on a skewer with a little spice on top...and a small baked potato or ear of corn cooked on the grill with that...add a fresh salad and you have a great filling meal with lower calories and lots of vegetable content.
As far as running around, Iam a busy person, and I tend to have to snack or eat on the go a lot-so one of my tactics is to buy the dried apricots and divide them out into single servings into the smallest size Ziploc bag. I keep one of them in my purse for munching on the way to class or running around in the summer. It is a small 110 calorie snack-just about 4-5 dried apricots, but it is high energy, a good source of fiber and vitamins, and I don't have to worry about keeping them cold, them melting, or anything like that while I am running around-plus it is a fruit serving, and it satisfies my sweet tooth.
Ages ago dried fruits and nuts were used as traveling foods for men-because they are small serving sizes (less bulk while traveling) and they do not need to be kept cool or prepared-and they are high energy foods. There is your history lesson for today!
Well-today is my Pilates day...gotta go and work my abs...everyone have a great day, and if you are having trouble staying on plan...just take it minute by minute or hour by hour if you have to. Do what it takes to stay out of that fridge-even if it means going outside and walking around the block. Some days are easy-and it seems we just sail right through them, while others need "baby steps."
Have a great day!

Hello,
One of the things that I really like about being at work (as opposed to being a full time student) is that there is a water cooler. I have not been keeping track, but I swear that most days I could float home from work on what I drank.
So, what are peoples feelings about caffine? I drink about two cups of coffee a day, but I am thinking that it may be time to cut out the caffine becuassee it dehydrates epople and it causes hypertension. However, it is also very tasty and good ffor a jolt in the morning when I enter the land of flourescent lighting.
Yes, this is a total lifestyle change (not a diet). I tend to be someone who does things without a lot of planning, but for changing my eating and exercise habits I have made charts to track everything that I can use year after year (slight adjustment for leap year). It is a way to keep myself aware of what I am eating and how much I am exercising over the long term.
I think for the caffiene-coffee tends to have a lot more than tea or soda-that you have a few options. You can take your 2 cup a day habit to only one, and make sure you drink an extra cup of water each day to counter the dehydrating effect it has, or you can buy the lite 1/2 caffiene coffee they have in the stores, or if you go to a coffee shop-order it half regular, half decaf mixed-and stay with your 2 cups. This may ease the transition to no more coffee or decaf if you plan on making the change.
