IdealPerson: My goodness!!! What an awful time you had with your wisdom teeth. I'm glad it's all over and you are on the road to recovery!! Take care of yourself and get all the the help you can. We women always try to do so much ourselves. I'm the worst...
RE: The 90 Day Challenge: I think my focus is going to be on making habits out of the things I'm doing right to lose this weight. I am trying to zero in on what has been the problem all those times I've lost weight only to see it creep back up. What am I doing now that I must continue FOREVER in order to keep the weight off?
So, I'm making a permanent habit of journaling. I'm weighing often and not avoiding the scale. I'm eating more protiens, veggies, fruits and soy products. I'm idendifying the hidden sugars and fats in foods and finding a substitutes. I'm also sticking with the daily workout. This is the hardest thing for me...I do not like working out...I just do it anyway.
I plan to go through my closets before the end of the 90 days and kiss goodbye my sizes 14 and up. I can't keep them around "just in case" ....I have to get rid of them.
GeorgiaLady-that is a great idea about getting rid of your too big clothes. It is so much easier to let weight creep back up on you when you have some big pants to throw on when your smaller ones get tight...you tend to ease right back on into the bigger ones and not even realize it until you have gained 20 pounds! Get rid of them! You are more likely to get back on the wagon after a slip up when EVERYTHING is getting a little snug.
Idealperson-I would say that the pie filling is on the list because of all of the processing to make it shelf stable, plus to tons of ugar and starches added to it...and the apple variety, the most widely used, has all of the skin peeled off of the apple slices, removing most of the fiber and vitamins. I much prefer to avoid pies with a regular pie crust altogether-all that refined starch from the flour, plus the fat-doubled with whatever sugary filling is in it. I use recipes for the low fat low sugar cobblers or crisps that use oats or wheat flour, and I replace the sugar with Splenda.
I am sorry to hear about the trouble with your teeth, but isn't it great to get a comment like that out of it all? I bet you felt wonderful!!!! When I lost all of my extra weight and got fit after my first baby, I still had that "fat" mindset, and went in for a routine doctor's visit...I don't remember a thing about that visit except for my doctor making a comment about me being "thin." It was kindof like what was said to you....a "Well since you're thin, blah, blah, blah..." and you are so shocked you don't even hear the rest of the sentence. Boy, I can't wait in a few months to get another comment like that!

Howdy!
I was having a giggle thinking about clothing becuase I have this little mind game that I have been plaing with myself. That is: I used to buy jeans that were "loose fit" becuase I could fit into smaller sizes (mens levis). Of course on me they were anything but loose, but hey, the numbers stayed small. So now that the pants are starting to become loose fit in truth, are they too big, or just right? It is all a little mind game. What does loose fit really mean anyway?
At any rate, I agree totally that it is good to get rid of the clothing that is too large. It clears up space and gives you a good idea of what you actually own that you can actually wear. A friend of mine lost a bunch of weight and kept her larger suits till one day she realized that nothing fit her even though every time she looked in the closet she had plenty fo suits.
I can't comment on why any of the food is on there. The list came to me in an email and I didn't click on any othe links for further information. But as long as you listen to your body and know what might set you off on an eating binge, anything is fine in moderation or occassionally in my humble opinion. It's that listening part that gets most of us; well me anyway.
The different jeans fits sortof go like so:
Classic fit-usually cut to fit the natural shape of the body with just enough extra fabric cut in for wearing ease. (The fabric cannot be cut to your exact measurements, you have to have an inch or so more than what you are to allow you to move. Classic fit jeans usually have tapered legs.
Relaxed fit-the same as classic fit, except a small amount more of room is cut into the rear and thighs, to make it a little more relaxed there. They should fit normally in the waist area, just looser in the rear and thighs.
Loose Fit-cut a little more looser throught the hips and thighs, sometimes even down through the bottom of the leg.
Boot Cut-cut in a slimmer, tighter fit through the hips and thighs, and gets a little looser through the calf and bottom opening. not quite flare leg, but a little fuller through the calf and bottom opening-originally meant for western boots to fit under the jeans.
Flare leg-a lot of times they are low rise-hitting more on the upper hip rather than your naval area like the classic fit jeans. Slim cut through the hip and thigh (less ease room cut into them) and flared from the knee down.
What I find terrible about all this, is that I love the flare leg jeans, but I like the way the classic fit fits me in the rear and thighs. I am very hourglass shaped with a larger butt and smaller waist, and the flare legs always fit me too tightly through the butt and thighs and too loosely through the low rised waist-so I end up pulling them up all day long, lest I look like a plumber. The classic fit tends to have a smaller, higher waist and fits me better there. I love the flare leg athletic pants that have a bit of spandex in them-I wear them to dance class a lot-the elastic in the waist keeps them from falling down and I get a smooth fit through the hips and thighs.
zadie-in the loose fit I would go by how they are fitting in the waist-if they fit well there and loose everywhere else then they fit correctly-this is your true size as of now. If they are getting big in the waist as well-you may be seeing a smaller size pretty soon!

Here's to smaller sizes I have gone from an 18 to a 10-they feel so good and I can't stop looking in the mirror-"is that me?" My teeth are still hurting-I think it's the stitches that are dissolving, but my mouth aches-I have 15 stitches in there! I am craving salads and chips with salsa-neither of which I can have at this time, so it's back to applesauce, yogurt, jello and soup!
My challenge is to exercise more and to continue to drink water-I have no problem with getting in enough H2O, I am hoping to lose 1.2 this week to hit the 50# mark on Monday at WW. I want that magnet...best of luck to everyone...and send suggestions my way for soft foods .....
zadie k - I see that you're almost at your 10 pound loss milestone! Congats to you! I love to make cakes, also I think I became a pastry chef 'cause I never got an Easy-Bake Oven when I was a kid! what color is your KitchenAid?
missymont - so glas to hear you're back on track!
Idealsperson - OMG, 60/40?! No wonder they were worried! but that is so cool that you hear from someone clinical and unbiased "because you're so small" - woohoo!!
tooround, you should change your name :smile - you've lost 23 pounds, you can't be "too round" now!
GeorgiaLady - everything you listed as to what you are doing right, is terrific! and yes, dump (or give away to second-hand) the too-large clothing. No need to keep them around anymore!
Aphil, I laughed out loud at your description of pulling up your pants so you wouldn't look like a plumber and reveled in your telling of when your doctor said "because you're thin...: ("Now, my dear, this is very important - because you're thin now, blah blah blah" - aphil tunes out!)
re 90 day challenge - duh to me - I got my big-*ss water bottle filled up last night, and in the fridge chilling, for me to pack this morning. Well, after getting all my bike gear on (first jeans, t-shirt and socks; then long-sleeved shirt, wool socks; then Joe Rocket pants and jacket; scarf; boots; gloves; helmet) then clumping out to my bike to cram in my little trunk the big bag of fresh rhubarb that I needed to bring to work - I forgot my water bottle. So I drank from my little bottle, but not often enough. Big bottle goes to work tomorrow!
Hello to everyone else! Snowey, are you OK? a big hug to ya, girl! Hello to jacklyn, Kina, Christine, tryin'hard, Kanola, and everyone else!
Idealperson-some great ideas for soft foods while your gums are healing from the surgery:
Mott's HealthyHarvest flavored unsweetened applesauce cups-the peach medley and strawberry are really great! I buy these for my son instead of the sweetened applesauce.
You can make a healthy smoothie/shake in the blender by blending yogurt, a banana, some fruit-whatever-just use your imagination- a great way to get some fruit in.
Edy's whole fruit bars-in the freezer section-80 calories and the strawberry ones are to die for!
Campbell's Soup at Hand-they are thicker sipping soups with all of the veggies, etc. pureed in them so you can sip on the go without a spoon. They have 3 or 4 flavors-the vegetable one would be a great way to get your veggies in without chewing!
Holly-I am glad you got a laugh out of my pants mishaps....hee hee hee (reaches under the sink and says "I think I see your problem...")

Good Morning,
Today is very quiet at work. Everyone is out except me (lowly law clerk) and the Secretary (ruler of the kingdom without whom nothing would ever get done). It is kind of nice becuasse I can turn up my music without bugging anyone (namely my boss who has the office directly across from me). And what good is buying the new Gillian Welch album if you are not aloud to turn it up?
Vermont Mom - My KitchenAid is red. It was a gift from my sister and my parents. I love it madly. Before that I was using a really lame mixer which you had to hold onto the top of when mixing frosting otherwise it would vibrate off the counter adn would not really mix anything. It messed up the texture of the batter. The first time I used the KitchenAid I was so happy I called by partner into the kitchen. Fortunately he was suitably impressed. I too was deprived of easy bake, but for the life of me I cannot make the connection between this and becomming a lawyer.
Aphil - My jeans are currently fitting almost perfectly around the waist (maybe a bit loose). I tend to be more hips and but and less waist. I also have a very high waist and large chest and no torso to speak of, so I tend not to tuck things in. Maybe after I shrink a bit more I will go for something a little more low rise.
Idealperson - wow, even one person saying "since you are thin" would make my month if not my year. I am very unimmaginative about soft foods. I will not be too much longer though. Maybe Daal (spicy smooth red lentil soup)? Mashed potatoes?
Thanks Girls for your suggestions...this is one way to lose weight! But I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, right now I am having shredded wheat, softened in 1 percent milk.
Where is everyone today? Missing all the chatter...
I made a great recipe last night...aand it was soft...
Crazy Pizza-give it a try, my whole familiy loved it and I will definitely make it again.
Saute green peppers, onion, and mushrooms in ICBINB spray. add a jar of Ragu pizza sauce, a small can of sliced black olives, and 16 pepperoni slices* (quarter them).
Take one can of biscuits and quarter each one, add to the sauce mix and stir to coat. Put in a sprayed 8x8 or round pan, bake at 350 for 20 min. Top with low fat mozzarella cheese and bake for 10 minutes more. Let sit for 5 min. before cutting. 6 servings= 5 points each.
*I calulated with reg. pepperoni and 2 percent cheese, so it would be lower with turkey pepperoni and free cheese, I just don't care for either.
zadie-it seems that we have sort of a similar build...I am a touch taller than average-about 5'7", and am large chested (D-DD) and full in the hips and thighs with a smaller waist-I am longer torsoed, so even still being heavy I look better in a two piece bathing suit or in my dance costumes-I just try to find a swimsuit with shorts type bottoms or with a sarong to wrap around my butt. My legs tend to be the shorter, stumpier part of me. (Big thick tree trunks. ) I love to wear formal or dressier gowns and such that are fitted through the bodice to show that part off, and then go long and flowing to hide my legs-with some heels to add length there, I actually look proportioned! My husband teases me abot my short legs all of the time. When we are walking in the mall or somewhere, I always have to yell at him to slow down, because I am taking 3 steps to his two, and huffing and puffing the whole way-because he walks fast anyway, plus me stepping 50% faster to keep up!
I feel really sorry for my sister in law though...she is very short-about 5'2", and is very large chested, small waisted, and very large hipped. The hourglass figure is a great thing, but when you have a very short torso to work with-it tends to go "BOOM, tiny, BOOM", instead of gently curving along a longer torso. Her hips are very large and her bust is very large-DD, so it is realy exaggerated, and if she wears something like a sweatshirt that hides her waist, she looks very "boxy" rather than have any shape.
Aphil
aphil - I actually have almost exactly the same build as your sister in law. 5'2'', large chest, large hips, small waist, very short torso. The one advantage that I have is long legs for my height, but I do tend to look boxy. It means that I hide weight gain well, but also that I hide weight loss as well.
I think that none of this would be a big deal if someone designed cloths with this shape in mind. Pants tend to fit in the hips and be loose in the waist. T-Shirts tend to be too long and tight arround my hips (which they invarribly reach if they fit over my chest). Dresses are ok if they are not fitted at the waist (if they are fitted at the waist it is too low becuase they expect a torso in there somewherre), but then I look boxy becuase I have the chest and butt.
My boyfriend is 6 feet tall and I am always struggling to keep up. I feel like that little scotty dog in Lady and the Tramp that has to take about six steps for every one of the other dogs. Very cartoon feeling.

Howdy All!
Just poppin in for a quick hello and to say sorry for being such a stranger. We have had out of town company from BC and its been very busy here. They will be here for about another week and maybe then I can catch up on all the postings. All I want is to average 1-2 pounds a week and hopefully get to goal this year
Ill be back as soon as the company is gone and I can have time to spend at the computer. Take care everyone and big hugs
