Well I have been getting that daily exercise in. I haven't done the strength training yet. I really don't know what to do. I guess it will come soon enough. I have been getting on my stepper and ab roller daily. However the scale is showing a big hike right now...I guess it is because it is that TOM for me and there is no way around it. So I am determined to get the daily workout each day this week.

Holly~~~Fantastic abs...my goodness! I hope to look as good as you at your age. Gracious! The job thing didn't go as well as I had hoped but it is probably for the better. Employers don't want to work with my schedule at school and I am just not ready to give up on school that quick. I waited 10 years to get back into college.

Amy~~~You have an awesome will power and I hope that I can gain some control of food at some point. I figure if I can get the exercise down then the rest will follow. How did your sewing come out?

Jacklyn~~~I hope you get to feeling better soon.

GottaLoseIt~~~Is there any kind of exercise routine you follow?

Missy~~~I know how you mean about the exercise and the food...I sometimes feel the same way. I usually don't get my exercise in in the morning which gives me the chance to not get it done at all but before the days ends I jump onto my stepper or ab roller. I don't know what it is that gets me to do it but I guess I just know in the long run it will pay off.

Doni~~~How is the Firm working out for you? I have heard great things about that routine.

Christine~~~How are you and Kiari (sp) doing?

Nola~~~Wow a perfect size 10...it must be wonderful! I am so happy for you. I hear that BFL it a tough routine and you have to have a mind set to get through it all. Do you have to go out to gym to get the full effect of the whole thing?--or can you do it at home?

TryinHard~~~Maintaining is probably is the 2nd toughest thing to do after getting the weight off? Kudos to you; you are obviously doing something right! Let me know your secret! LOL...wave your magic wand this way!

Well it is getting late and I have to get up early for work. Luckily I have done my exercise for the day. Talk to you all tomorrow!

Hugs & Smiles, Kina

Good morning everyone!

a quick note before I get ready for work. Here is the url for our trip slide show - www.vtwebco.com/slideshow

There's a bit of a delay from the text that appears, to the corresponding picture - oh well.

In the pics where there are just three of us, my husband is the bigger guy with glasses, and the other guy is Steven, who rode 2400 miles with us! He's a great guy. The others - Dennis, tall lean guy, rode from California, by himself, to meet us; there's a couple of Memphis, Tenn., and a guy who lives in St. Louis ("Viagra"), who hosted us.

Thank you, Kina! That is just a part of my body that responds very well to targeted muscle work.

Yes, Jacklyn, I do hope you're feeling much better!

Your friend,
Holly

Holly--that slide show was AMAZING!! You guys look like you had the experience of a lifetime! That pic where the guys are holding you up--YOU LOOK SO GOOD!! Your arms and your abs are what I dream about!! Where to next???

Kina--remember, you are doing all the right things. The scale will move when it's ready, but don't go by that! I haven't gotten on the scale since January. As long as my tight jeans still fit, I know I"m in good shape. I also go by my bra. After our trip to Florida, I noticed my bra was getting a little tight. I watched my eating for two weeks, and now it's back to normal.

Aphil--how's the sewing going? Congrats to you for walking away when it got frustrating. SOmetimes we wait too long and then make a really big mistake! I am so proud of your food choices at your family get togethers! Any negative comments I am sure are just coming from jealousy. Who knows, maybe you're planting the seeds of inspiration within them!

Have you tried the Kashi waffles? I am not a big waffle fan, but these are really good! 2 of them are 170 calories and 6 grams of fiber. I had two this morning with some raspberry jam on them.

Well girls, I hope you all have a terrific day! If it would just warm up here a little bit in the northeast! It was 44 this morning when I walked--usually by now we're hitting 60 at dawn! Make it a great day, everyone!

Hi girls!! It is almost sleepy time for this chicky babe, but I had to post!!

Holly - your photos totally ROCK!!! I love 'em!!! I can relate to the one with the caption... Oh my butt!!! he he he I had hubby come see them too we had a long laugh of the bike in the hotel room!! That is something I would have done too if I had a Beemer!!

Kina - I am enjoying BFL. It is definately a learning experience. I am waiting another week or so to do some measurements, and I will let ya'll know. The weights workout can be done at home, and it would be a good start. I would check your local library for the book.

One other book I highly highly recommend is 'Strength Training Anatomy' by Frederic Delavier. I ordered it on Amazon and had it shipped over here about a year ago. The photos are amazing, although a bit physiology textish and there are numerous exercises for both machines and free weights for every body part!! I just flipped it over (it lives near my computer along with my BFL book) and it is $18 US.... so I paid shipping and handling and a horrible exchange rate for this book.... can you tell I loves it!! The reviews for the women's version were crap, but there are many women illustrated in the book I recommended.

Well.... I will post more tomorrow. I am totally exhausted and need to pack my gym bag for tomorrow yet *sighs* there are just not enough hours in the day it seems

Have a good day everyone!!!

Nola.

Hi everyone!
Well, the problem I had with my machine yesterdya is now fixed...I am taking a little break now...they will all soon be finished, and I will get a picture up here of the girls in them.
Kina-yes, you can do strength training or the BFL strength training workout at home. If you do BFL or some other sort of more serious strength training workout at home-you will need some free weights (dumbells) and I would recommend a weight bench. Not a home gym, but a weight bench that can either be flat or come up to an incline. I actually bought mine through an ad in the classifieds for cheaper than in the sporting goods stores. If you have never weight trained before, you will need to start out with some lighter weights-such as 3 pounds, 5 pounds, and 7 or 8 pounds, and then a good strength training book that shows the workouts. There are also some workouts that do not need the weight bench, but just the weights-they usually use a kitchen chair for some of the exercises. If you pm me with your mailing address-I would be glad to send you a copy of a basic strength training workout so you can get started.
siamese-we actually had a tornado up here in Columbia City on Friday night-it wasn't a big one, but we had some decent sized hail, and tons of rain and lightening/thunder at our house. Luckily, there was no damage on our street. Sunday we had the terrible winds up here...but last night was all right.
Well, it is back to sewing...I need to get kickin! The deadline draws near...I have one week to finish things up!

Good morning all!

Boy, it sure is nice to have the day starting to get light at 5:00 a.m. now. It makes it so much easier to pop out of bed and get that exercise done, doesn't it

Aphil, yay that the sewing maching problem is fixed. We wish you no tangles this last week! We're anxious to see the pics, when they're up.

siamese, hello and welcome! Your animated avatar is so cute! I tried one "Firm" tape last year, and found it too difficult; maybe I should tackle it again. They were a whole series, weren't they? Do you go for both aerobic conditioning and weight?

tryin'hard, I know what you mean about the rain/clouds! I think it's been cloudy/rainy here since...last week?...I forget, it's been so long! thank u for the compliments! I still view my arms as having too much flesh, but I am glad that the muscles are visible. When the "gang" was thinking of next year's trip, someone tossed out "Vegas" - I don't know, but we'll see!

Hi Kanola! Watching Dennis navigate his bike into his room was a riot - and the conformist, responsible-citizen-part of me was thinking, "oh, jeez, the motel wouldn't like this, I hope his tires don't leave marks" - but the carpet stayed clean, and his bike stayed safe with him for the night. He had to climb over the bike to get into the bathroom - in the pic where he has the towel over his hand, the caption for the pic should be:

Bike - "Vroom, vroom!"
Dennis - "I said I'll be out in a minute!"

Hi Kina! I would highly recommend starting weight training, but taking it light and easy. Anything aphil sends you would be sensible and effective, I know. I just love how the strength and stamina that using weights gives you helps you through your day. Plus those exercised muscles keep metabolizing (burning) calories even after your workout is through.

Hello to everyone else! Hope that you'll all have a great day.

I'm sending in more Nantucket Nectar caps today; I promised my son that he could have a gift certificate from FYE (some electronic/music store) and a pedometer for me! If our drippy, grey weather ever stops, I'll try to get back to some walking. I'm curious to see how long the "10,000 steps" would be for me.

Your friend,
Holly

Good morning everyone!
Holly-that is so cool that you are still getting all of those caps!
I also liked the bike in the hotel room picture...reminded me of that episode of American Chopper where they had to fix a bike on the road and used a hotel room-they even moved the bed out in the hallway! Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do!

I need to make my hotel reservation today for the night of the show next weekend...the show is about 2 hours away, and it won't be over until 10pm...so none of us really want to drive after being up there all day shopping for bellydance stuff-there will be a ton of vendors-and going to the workshop and the show.
I have 2 tops to finish up this week and I am all finished. The dress rehearsal is on Monday, so maybe I can get a few pictures then so I can get them up here-I hope so!
My food intake has went really well the past few days, I have really refined it this week, hoping to break this plateau...I have cut out the treat foods and a lot of the starches-concentrating on only the lean proteins, fruit, veggies, and some whole grain cereal. My sister in law asked me yesterday how much I have lost though...I have been getting a little more "frisky" in my dress for class...I started out wearing a leotard top and athletic pants, and now I wear a half top or choli with stretchy leggings that have flared legs at the bottom, and a bunch of jingly stuff around my hips. I told her I haven't even lost any pound/scale weight in a few weeks, that everything is just firming and shaping up with the exercise lately.
Well, I best get moving, I have a lot of work to do!
ps-Holly-I believe they sell the whole Firm tape set and the special step at Target if you have one nearby, otherwise at Collage. Maybe hint at the husband for it for a birthday, anniversary, or some other gift? hee hee

Default Belated Mother's Day

I was so anxious to see the new "Matrix" movie that I told DH and DS that I wanted to go out this Sunday and see the movie to celebrate Mother's Day. They didn't protest. We're going to Outback Steakhouse after and I am going to try to bring home half of my dinner and skip dessert.

Looks like everyone is doing great...summer's a good time to eat fruits and veggies and get outside. I've been cleaning out the garage and working out in back of the house....amazing what bleach can do!!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!!!

Good Friday everyone!,
I am finally on the last costume piece for the dance show...and will be finishing it up this weekend! YAY! I will get the pics up of them in about a week-after the show!
Kina-I got your pm-I will send it out this week!
I went to the grocery store last night and bought a huge 4 pound package of strawberries for me and the kids...Jason said, "Don't they usually sell those huge ones for making pies?" Not in my case-we are going to be eating plenty of just plain strawberries for a couple of days....I just love them, and for 50 calories a cup and all the antioxidants and fiber they contain-you can't go wrong! I also bought a bag of Holly's special "diet sized apples," and some bananas-so I have plenty of fresh fruit this week around the house to enjoy.
You know last night, I had a little bit of a treat-but I kept it within my calorie range with a simple little trick...I bought a 2-cup package of those limited edition white chocolate Reese Cups-and before I even took a bite-I gave one of the cups to my daughter. I only had one cup left to eat, and it was 115 calories instead of 230. I got to enjoy it, without eating the whole thing-and Jasmine was excited because we were "sharing." It was a good thing, because normally if you start eating one, you eat the other-but since I gave it away first-I couldn't.
I actually have not been yet to see the Matrix sequel-I liked the first one, and I actually have a friend making a Trinity costume.
Today is my strength training day...woohoo! Off to work out...

Thanks for the words of encouragement girls.

Kairi and I are doing great. She rolled over (back to tummy) for the first time 2 days ago! She's started giggling... its all too cute
I love babies! She even sleeps through the night! What a perfect child

I think I found a motivator. Well, it should motivate me for a month anyway I'm getting Kairi baptised in New York in a month. I haven't seen some of these people since my wedding 2 1/2 years ago. I weighed 20 pounds more then but still, Id like to lose as much as I can before then so I can show off Unfortunately, some of the people saw me last year before I got pregnant, when I was 20 pounds LESS than I am right now. Not much I can do about that though!!
I know if I can get motivated and through a month I will keep going... its just that starting part that is so tough!!

So, I am going to give myself some goals here...
1) To do the new Pilates DVD I got.. 4x per week
2) Drink water, water and more water
3) Aim to lose 5 to 10 pounds before the baptism (I'd like to be in the 160's!)

Think I can accomplish this?

silence-your goals sound good-I know if you stay 100% OP, that you can lose 5 pounds before the baptism and be in the 160's...for your mini goal if 169. Having something to motivate you sure helps doesn't it?

Silence - we believe in you! I bet that you can achieve the 5 pound goal in a month. You know what to do; you've done it before; now you have a real goal to work towards! Your daughter sounds so cute. and hooray to her for sleeping through the night!

aphil, good idea on sharing the treat. Really, can we tell the difference if we eat one or two of those delicious things...a sensible way to have a limited treat. I thought of you, as we were at a medieval fest today - it wasn't any big production; was put on by a Lutheran church about 30 miles from here. No, we're not any religious denomimation ourselves; just looking for someplace to ride to on an absolutely gorgeous day. I'm sure your costumes would have totally outshined the ones there, but they were nice to watch.

I realize that this is the first summer EVER in my life, that I am entering, happy with my body, and not dreading the heat, as I never wore shorts before, even if it was sweltering. It is SUCH a wonderful feeling!!

Summer is great, as aphil pointed out, for the abundance of fresh fruits and veggies. It is now a habit, what with the husband doing the Atkins, for us usually not to prepare a starch (potato, rice, pasta, etc.) with dinner; but I tell the boys that if they want a slice of whole wheat bread for toast with supper, they can help themselves. Some nights we do have pasta, but just not as often. And sometimes a small baked potato is included. I do love a nice piece of grilled meat and a BIG serving of green salad, and try to cram in some cooked green veggies such as green beans or broccoli. Plus a handful of baby carrots. Good eats!

A kid (18) that I work with, made a comment, that previously would have upset me so much; but I interpreted it as good. I had to dash to the bank to get some change; it doesn't take long, as the bank is just across the street and half a block up from the store. Anyway, I got back even faster than usual; another co-worker said, "Holly, what, did you run there?" and the young guy said, "with those legs, she can get there pretty fast!" Now he had commented on my emerging leg muscles a few weeks ago (the day I started wearing shorts to work, I think) so I took it as a compliment, whether he wanted it to be or not!

Does anyone else have to deal with blackflies, where you live? I don't know if they are regional to just here...I sure don't remember anything like them in NJ, where I grew up. They are small bugs, bigger than gnats but smaller than houseflies. They emerge here just now, in mid-late May (JUST when all of us, who are so starved for warm weather, want to be outside) but don't last too long; they're gone by the second week of June.

They can collect in swarms around you; the head is where they love to be. If they land on you, (and they are slow, so you have time to brush/squash them), they BITE, and daym, it hurts! Leaves a welt bigger than a mosquito. They do itch a bit, but mostly just hurt! Rotten little things! But they're a rite of spring; so I'll put up with them. Some people will work outside, gardening, in those net-covered hats and shirts, they are so bothered by the blackflies. Or maybe they're more reactive (allergic) to them. I do find the netting rather goofy-looking, so I go without.

Well, I "played" today before I exercised, which I normally don't do; but the fine weather called us out to ride, and I'm glad I did. So now I just have to wait for the boys (all 3 ) to finish their Sega game; then I commandeer the TV/VCR and will do a tape. I do the longer ones on my days off, so it will be the Gilad Step 'n' Tone, which is about one hour.

Have a great Saturday night, everyone! Drink your water, exercise if you need to; just throw away any junk food in the house! No one needs it, especially not us!

Your friend,
Holly
