I know its a bit of cultural difference. Asking a Canadian to get Nascar is like asking an American to get lacrosse or hockey.

Here in CA we got to see both NASCAR and the Oscars!

DD got to go see the qualifying on Friday with her boyfriend.

On another note, and back to car issues.....

I'd like to ask all of you to boycott Jiffy Lube. Here's what happened. DD, 18, away at college, sees that her car computer (Honda) is telling her she needs an oil change. She goes to JL where they see that according to their records, she's gone 2500 miles past when THEY recommend oil changes (you know--they want you to go in every 2500 miles regardless of what the manufacturer recommends). So they tell her that she needs an engine flush (which is a whole lot of bunk--you and I know that!). Unfortunately, she didn't question them until afterward and then she was stuck with the bill that should have been an oil change only and ended up being over $200. And to top it off, Honda specifically states in their maintenance stuff that engine flushes are detrimental to the engine and should not be performed.

At this point, DD calls DH and DH gets on the phone to talk to JL and the manager there. After the phone call, the guys at JL laugh at my DD saying she was being babysat by her father!

All I can say isHOW INCREDIBLY RUDE, INCONSIDERATE AND JUST PLAIN WRONG!!!! YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF A YOUNG GIRL AND THEN LAUGH AT HER!!!

Needless to say, we'll be writing a letter of complaint to JL, not that it will do any good. If you Google anything about them the consensus is that they don't really respond to complaints.

But they have lost our corporate fleet--we used to take all our trucks there for oil changes. No more. You'd think that in the economy that companies would be trying to KEEP not ALIENATE customers!

Can you tell I'm P.O.'d?

alinnell-so sorry that happened to your DD. All those places are crooks. DH won't ever take our cars to a quickie place, because he says they only do half the job in the first place and then, if it's a place that does any kind of other work, they'll mess up something so you have to bring it back for them to fix it! We've boycotted Aamco for 20 years after they refused to put my mom's car back together when she went for one of their "free estimates", but she decided not to have the work done and wanted to trade the car. The dealership had to send a flatbed tow to take the car and parts so she could get a new one. I tell everyone who ever asks about car stuff not to trust them ever! I'm just really fortunate that DH knows cars and how to build and repair them. Saves us a lot of $$ Here's a for your DD!

Wow, Allison, I would be really ticked, too. Those quick lube places make me angry anyway, so I go to my local Joe Blow mechanic. I have to make an appt and it isn't always quick, but I would much rather put up with that than the annoyance of the quick lube places.

Hey Julia, my son is taking a class in Lacrosse (offered through the school). He really likes it! They actually have a high school club here, too, and it is a growing sport in our county. Cool stuff!

Worst part about moving is having to find a new mechanic. They really screw with you, especially if you're a woman. Big O tried to convince me that damage to a bead of my tire wasn't them giving me a s**t tire in the first place. Huh. No damage to the rim. Been leaking from the day I got it. "Oh, well MAAA'AM, maybe your husband had work done to it." he says. "No, it's MY car. He doesn't drive it or take care of the maintenance." I says. After 20 min. of going back and forth I called my X and, in front of the manager asked if he snuck off in the middle of the night with my car to have tire work done. Then, I asked him to come down. All of a sudden the manager decides to replace the tire.(Small town, once he realized who my X was, he knew he'd be dealing with the biggest SOB in the county, who was on graves and he'd be ticked. Everyone knew Big John. Also, my BIL was a city attorney. Everyone knew him cause he handled the DUIs,) I never went back there again.

Be sure the little pr*cks at that shop know about the fleet they lost as well as corporate, Al. Sorry your DD had to get this lesson away from home.

Yeah, we have a great mechanic here, but DD, away at school, can't always come back for these things. She used to go to the dealer, but they're so darn expensive. Who knows what she'll decide to do in the future. But she did learn a lesson--don't listen to the blowholes at car shops! Listen to your grandfather who was a mechanic all his life.

Oh Geez, I am so sorry that your dd had to endure that at JL, Allison. What bung-holes. Good thing my dh and fil and dad are car freaks and can fix near anything.

I'd call corprateand even BBB. Take it all the way...
My dh had to get a part at a parts store for his truck and it didn't work properly, so being at his parents house we went to the same store but in a different time. The guy was giving my dh and fil a horrid time... well after a bunch of B.S. my dh went to the one we usually go to and they said send us in your receipts (copies) and we'll reimburse you... as in the damage of their Non-working properly part ruined two other parts in his truck so inturn it was a lot more $$$. That and they are doing a search on that guy who was an A$$ to my dh and fil. Serves him right for yelling and screaming and REFUSING to give them the managers Number. So we went even higher up and well.. now that guys job is teetering.

another place where we have had problems is our local Wal-Mart. we had a pick up that had a power stearing leak, and a bad wiper blade among other things .so the next time we took the truck back to wal-mart for the next oil change we made a point in asking them to check it and make sure it was full. they did the work and we left we had to add more fluid a couple days later. the next time we took it in we checked the fluid level and it was low now this is where the wiper blade comes in as well this time it needed replacing and there full service checked the wiper blades. we told them what we wanted and that we would be checking to make sure everything was done because we had complained before that work was not getting done that they had claimed that they did we had told them to make sure that the fluid was checked and that we would be checking to make sure that it was done before we left. when we got the truck back we said again that we would be checking the fluid level and the wiper blade this was to the manager and that if it was not done we would be back and they where not checked and according to the check list they where marked as fine. when we went back into the store to complain no more than two minutes later the manager was already gone to lunch. needless to say that after that we have NEVER taken a vehicle back there.

We've had issues with Aamco before and have never returned and never will.

Some little (by Operator standards) trucks - Forestry trailer.
With a Forestry Dozer on top.

Another view of fire vehicles.

Pumper truck.
