6 today. I am slipping too. I think I'm still on track with my miles tho.

The half I wanted to do is this May 3rd. Tomorrow is the last day to sign up. My friend and I were planning to go together but she is not ready and will not be running. SHe is now back on track and believes she will be ready for a June half. I should just go by myself, right? I think it is a far drive and I'm nervous to race in the first place. DH needs to take kids have sports stuff locally so will not be there either, and besides, I wouldn't want to take 2 cars.

I will mapquest and get real info. Pretty sure tomorrow is deadline for reg.

river - I'm sorry to hear about your knee! Knees are pretty serious so take it easy and good luck!

shannon - you still have tons of time to catch up!

midwife - this is probably totally not what you want to hear but i find running really improves any sickness i'm ever feeling. because of it i haven't been in full blown sick mode at all this year. i hope you feel better!

jackie - i see the mississauga marathon is next week, are you doing the half?

14.55 miles for me. Finished with an overall pace of 9:30 feeling fantastic! I got a friend to run 4 miles of it with me. Really I just chose him because his place is 5 miles from me and made for 2 very good water stops hehe

kitty - i think if you feel ready mentally and physically you should definitely do it. but if you're hesitating i personally wouldn't. a bad race day could discourage you. it looks like you have enough training, so if you're pumped mentally about doing it, go for it!

My family's sched. is not too too crazy that day. I could go w/o feeling like I'm leaving too many obligations behind. And I checked mapquest, it says one hour away. So, even if it is 1.30 away, that is do-able. I will double check with hubbie and very likely sign up...

sm-- nice pace!!
river-- hoping for a swift recovery
midwife-- same hopes for a swift recovery... but not so much-- this had been going on for a while. feel better today!
shannon-- I can get shin splints on the tread. for me it is being cognizant of stapping lightly. Also when I run too fast for myself and starting banging my feet down, I set myself up for shin splints.
ez-- I love the idea of having my dogs depend on me for exercise.... I heart dogs

Default Good Morning!

Good Morning Everyone! I have been on this site before, but this is the first time that I have been on this thread. I love walking with my BF, especially in the summer. I am trying to start running as well. If you don't mind, I would love to join your challenge. I don't think that I am going to be able to make 1000 miles. Does anyone have a good suggestion for a first goal?

Heather

Thanks for the support Chicks. I just ran 4 miles and did ok on the knee. And I walked 4 miles last night. Going to ice tonight and have 2 therapy sessions next week. Judging by today, I'm ok to do the half. If I go back to my schedule I have an 8 mile tomorrow, depending on how it feels when I start out, I may shoot to do it.

25.5 miles this week. I had been planning on doing a little more (about 30-32), but I've had some weird stuff going on this week and decided to take it a little easier. (My friends think I'm nuts for the amount of I've done anyhow!)

Great job ladies.

Angie and I took the dogs to the duck pond and trails this afternoon. Got in at least 3 miles and only fell in the creek once! Dogs and Angie made it across...of course the dogs always jump in the water....Angie made all the rocks...I didn't

ETA - Thanks for all the support, everyone!

I've been looking for events in and around Atlanta - there are lots, including a couple of half marathons... I'm going to look around and see about signing up for something...

Welcome Heather! I would figure out what your weekly miles are now and also how much you want to build to and see where that puts you by 1/1/2010!

2 miles today....piddly, huh? I did some sprints though...

SM177: no I'm not doing the half which is a shame because its a day before my birthday but I have to work next weekend.

heather - I'd say between 400-600 miles. If you already walk a lot I'm sure the transition into running will be easy!

jackie - that is unfortunate. Will you do one of the two Toronto events? I'm contemplating doing a 10k for the Scotiabank one. I've never raced a 10k and I'll have all the marathon training under my belt.

shannon - signing up for something is great motivation! I don't know where I'd be had I not committed to something.

I stayed up until 6am to watch the London Marathon. Top man was 2:05:10 (Kenya) and top woman was 2:22:11 (Germany). The top guy's half split was 1:01! I think the leaders are asked to stay with the pack until around mile 20, which may have been why he slowed down. It's truely mind blowing to watch, human physiology at its very best!
