Thanks for starting the thread, Carol! Managing diabetes or prediabetes definitely adds extra layers to the weight loss journey — from blood sugar spikes to medication side effects and finding the right meal timing. It’s great to have a space where we can share strategies and support each other. If you’re looking for tools that may help with blood sugar and weight management, some people with type 2 diabetes use medications like Ozempic as part of their plan. You can Buy Ozempic Online if it’s been prescribed by your doctor.

Today the scale went to 183 but settled at 182.8. I welcome that .2

Weight this morning was 167.2. FBG 115 that was eating the fries and bun, but I was thankful to see my ketone reading at 0.6 so I am still in ketosis. Slightly but it was there. Today will be much better as I am back OP. I don't want to use DS passing as an excuse to eat. There was a time I would have turned to comfort food. I remember her telling me before we found out she had cancer that she had a dream that our baby sister and I would be thin, but she never would be. I thought it was just a dream but now I feel differently about it. My carbs today will be 35 total grams.

Carol Sue Remember that article you shared on here about using ginger and ACV that is supposed to be like Ozempic shots? Well I am using that now. If you do it don't put loads of ginger in it, but I think it might be helping. I make it like we used to make the ACV, lemon and water we did years ago the way Dr. Berg taught us, but I add just a touch of ginger in it. I put too much the first time and it burned my throat. It might help you.

Have a great day everybody.

Trish, I dont understand how I missed that your DS passed away. Deepest condolences to you and your family. May she rest in peace. I have heard that many people start to feel better right before they pass. She is with The Lord.

The scale is still at 178.2. I dont know when or how Im going to turn this around, but I have to.

Today we are going to the casino and will use our comps to eat fish dinner there. He said we will not go next week at all. we'll see. I will make him stick to that.

Carol Sue Thank you for your prayers. Strange thing is that when I told the Hospice nurse that I thought she was getting better. I had heard of what old people used to call a person ralling (don't know if that is how you spell it) a few days before they die, but she got better and lasted several days. The nurse told me that she had never seen anyone do that like DS did either. Her body was shutting down, but we didn't know it. It was a shock to all of us. Although I cry and miss her a lot, I know in my heart that she is better off. She wanted to go and when she got sick this time, I actually asked the Lord to take her so she wouldn't suffer anymore. Hard to do, but I realized I loved her enough to let her go. It is really hard for her youngest niece. I haven't seen the other 2 kids and probably won't till we have a memorial service. She was cremated so they have decided to have the service on her birthday in September. I've seen in the paper where a lot of people wait to have memorial services like that. My nieces birthday is Monday and I told her not to do it on her birthday. Mama died on DS birthday and we never celebrated DS birthday on her birthday ever again it hurt her so bad.

Well, I've had some carby days this week. I'm blessed that the FBG was 114 and ketones 1.4 this morning, but weight jumped up 2 lbs today. The only good thing is it is still under 170... 169.2 lbs. I think a carby food might be okay occasionally, but not 3 in one week. Monday we had pizza, Wednesday we got burgers and I was so out of it when we came home from DS I was too tired to made a salad to throw the meat in and yesterday I ate 4 crackers. I don't any of them would have messed with the scale, as long as I don't do them all in one week. Of course when you do low carb semi keto, that can happen.

I'm giving up milk for a while to see if that is what is causing my potty issues. I listened to what a few keto doctors say. I was surprised to learn that FF milk makes you fat. Makes sense, I never had a weight problem till I moved to my aunts and I loved milk and always drank whole milk. She only bought FF and the weight started going up.

Carol Sue have a good day at casino. Y'all always eat fish on Friday, is that because your DH is Catholic? I am cooking salmon today.

Have a good day everybody.

Yes Trish, DH still eats fish on Friday even though the Catholic Church no longer requires excepgt during Lent. He no longer goes to church but this rule was embedded in his life. I do not cook fish because he only likes it deep fried with batter or breading. If we go out to eat and he orders fish I sometimes order something else because I am not Catholic.

Here is an article about rallying before death.

https://www.agingcare.com/Articles/when-loved-ones-rally-before-death-185452.htm. Ive heard about it but never saw it. What did they say was DS cause of death? I didnt realize she was that sick.

DH did not do well at the casino. He likes that we are home so quickly but I wish he would go to the old casino now that winter is over. But it is a one hour drive.

I cant find the drink with ginger. Do you use fresh ginger or powdered ginger? I have to do something because the scale is still at 182.2. I have been eating a lot. We talked about it yesterday and he said he will never give me food again. How many times has he said that? I want to see how long this lasts, or if it ever happens!

Carol Sue Thank you so much for the website. It was just what I needed. I know she felt like everything was done with her family the way she wanted it and she was able to go on and I like the way the article says it that she went on her own terms. It gives me peace. I can't say what really caused her to die except that she wasn't able to get the treatment she needed to fight the cancer. Also I think once they told her she had cancer and only had 6 months to live she accepted that. She fought for 10 months and couldn't fight it anymore.

My BIL, niece and her husband came over yesterday. She said to get her Dad out but I think she was checking on me. I took care of her while my sister worked from the time she was a year old until she went to kindergarten so she is like a daughter. In fact, I had a miscarriage on June 19th and on June 30th my niece was born. My sister called me from the hospital the day she was born and said "Get up here and hold this baby". She was like mine from day one. She is a RN and was checking me yesterday concerned about my legs being swollen and said "we'll have to keep an eye on that". I can see she is transferring her care for her Mama to me. She wanted to take me to my next infusion but I told her no I didn't think that was a good idea for her at this time because her trips to oncology with my sister wasn't a good thing. It is too soon. So she wants to take me the time after that. I think she needs some time for her own emotional healing.

Family is trying to pull together. My baby sisters oldest grandson called me the other day and told me he would see me this weekend so not sure if that is today or tomorrow. DS only son and oldest daughter are coming in sometime this weekend and I want to go see them.

I am back OP today. weight was 168.6 lbs, FBG 107 and ketone 0.5. BP is very good although I don't remember what it was. We ended eating whatever we could put together because we had company at our meal time so today we will have the salmon I was going to cook yesterday.

Carol Sue I saw a thing on FB about having a flat stomach if you drank a lemon drink twice a day that you make with fresh lemons. I don't know if that is true, but I could drink it because I don't drink milk now. As for the ginger, I bought the powder, but I personally think I would like the actual root better. I saw some doctor on line talk about making it with the root, but don't remember who it was and don't think it was supposed to have the same effect as ozempic type meds.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Scale is still at 178.8. like its stuck.

Trish, I started my first diet at age 21. I switched to skim milk and never went back. I sometimes use 2%. When DH had his heart attack they put him on skim. He didnt like it, so I weaned hin, first 2%, then 1%, then our grocery store had 1/2 %,then to skim. One time he accidentally bought whole milk and he said "Something is wrong with the milk. " I looked and saw it was whole milk. He no longer liked it. I never heard that skim milk causes weight gain. I will research.

I think your niece is transferring care to you because her mother would want that. I think its a good thing for her to have you to care for, and for you to have her.

I think we might go to Walmart today instead of tomorrow. I am completely out of bread. DH needs bread too,,and he uses Great Value white. The bread at the local store was hard yesterday, so he would not buy it.

For Friday I want hot dogs, potato salad, and baked beans. He can have hamburger if he wants. Then we will watch fireworks at night. Independence Day to me always signifies that summer is half over, but it really just started. Our weather is supposed to cool down to the 70s by the end of the week.

Things remain the same with the other situation.

Carol Sue I have no idea what we will eat for the 4th. I'm the one who used to cook and have everybody at my house but that changed when I had chemo. I will have to talk to DH. He might want hot dogs or burgers.

I had diarrhea yesterday so I went online to see why I would have it when eating keto woe. It said it was the fat. Then I went on YouTube and looked to see what Dr. Eric Westman had to say about it as I remember once hearing him say he was going to do a video on what happens when you eat fat. Sure enough he had one on why you would have stomach problems on a KD. It is the added fat that I was eating that is probably causing the problem. He said in the 15 yrs of teaching people to do keto, that is what usually causes the diarrhea and once his patients stopped eating it and follow his way of teaching how to eat on his plan the problem goes away.

He says you can cook with butter, etc, but don't add it to your coffee and you don't use MCT oils etc to get into ketosis. He gives 10 ways to start keto on his plan so I'm going to follow his plan only. He also suggests not joining an app or worry about macros. It is going to be difficult not to track on MFP, but this morning I tracked just a plain keto woe Dr. Westman's way eating only 2 meals so I can do it with IF and my calories are only around 730 and carbs are 29. So I can see that I don't need to track because I'm bad about adding food I don't want to try to eat 1000 calories. So I will get me a notebook to write down the carbs I eat and not count calories. If I decide to use MFP, I just won't complete the day so it doesn't fuss at me for not eating 1000 calories.

I lost 1.2 lbs this past week so at least I am slowly losing. Weight was 168.6 lbs and FBG was 108 and ketones were still 0.5 and my bp is very good. We are having pork chops today and I will have cooked veggies with it and my yogurt. I am not going to be eating salads for a while because I read they can cause stomach problems too.

Have a blessed Sunday everybody.

It seems you have your WOE worked out to work best for you.

Here is can article I found abour Whole vs Fat free milk.

https://trainerjosh.com/nutrition/does-milk-make-you-fat/

It seems to say that the lower calories in skim milfk get replaced with sugar and carbs and that makes youvgain. I was doing low carb so I know I didnt add sugar or carbs, so thats why skim worked for weight loss for me. I like to use 2% too, so I might continue with that. It is closer to whole milk..

Hi Trish, I am really sorry to hear about your DS. It is hard losing someone so close. There are no words for how hard it feels.

Popsicle Thank you. I have to say I feel like there is this emptiness where DS left. I do miss her and will for a long time. Only God can fill and heal that feeling.

Carol Sue Thanks for the article. That is pretty much what I heard Dr. Berry say about milk however, he still says don't drink it on keto/low carb. However, I also understand from the article why Dr. Westman said if you are going to drink milk then be sure and drink whole milk. DH prefers whole milk and if I can handle it, I will go back to using it.

What I've learned from this and all my research is this. In Westman's original book End Your Carb Confusion, he had 3 phases of low carbing... Phase 1 - 20 grams a day, Phase 2 - 50 grams a day and Phase 3 - 150 grams. He says eat within those grams eating lower than those #s. I've also learned not to add extra fat but you don't have to cut the fat away from your meat unless you want to. Both these doctors also like IF woe with their plans too. This is becoming my basic woe. I want to keep my carbs between 20 and 50 grams. There may be a day like today that it will be a little higher, but most days they will probably be around 30 grams and I count total calories as Dr. Westman suggests.

This morning weight was 167.8 lbs. I lost 5.4 lbs this month. If I can lose 5 lbs in July I will finally be under what I weighed on January 1st. Weight then was 163.2. FBG 111 and I want to work at getting my A1c back to 4 this year. BP is very good 119/60. Ketones were 0.7. I will continue checking the ketones until I'm out of the strips I have and by then I should have my plan going well enough so as to keep myself in ketosis without checking it.

Hope everyone has a great day.

I forgot to post today. Rhe scale was down to 182.0 from 182.8. It was because i had potty issues from dinner yesterday. It will be up tomorrow from what I ate today.

Starting weight today for July 1st is 167.0. lbs. Down .8 lbs from yesterday. That was with us eating a fairly carby takeout meal, but I still am in ketosis because I still kept the carbs low. I am happy with the way this woe is working. Drinking oolong tea this morning instead of coffee because I can drink it without any calories or carbs. So true Intermittent Fasting. I will also be drinking green tea until I have coffee with Brunch. I have also decided to start drinking real lemonade throughout the day. I am trying turkey bacon today. It is 0 carbs and more protein. I only got one package to see if I like it as I really like my pork bacon.

Carol Sue I do have a good plan I'm using a lot of ideas from Dr. Westman and now I'm just tweaking it. He does say you can eat pretty much what you want as long as you can work it within your carbs. This gives me more leeway. Today we are eating the hot dogs that DH DD sent us from Omaha Steaks. They are very high calorie and have 4 carbs each and loads of sodium. However, I am working things around so that my carbs will be less than 40 grams and I always take a Lasix after dinner. I drank approximately 3/4 c whole milk for dinner. No problem so far. I think my problem was high fat added to woe.

Are you going to casino today? I know DH said no casino this week, but I didn't believe it.

Have a good day everybody.

Weight up today 168.2 lb because those Omaha Steaks hot dogs were extremely high in sodium. FBG 105 and Ketone 0.5 and bp 138/5? so that is good. Today isn't going to be much better because DN wrote yesterday and she, her DH and Dad are bringing pizza for dinner today so we can visit. Today is one week since DS passed. Carbs will be high but calories will be ok. I will do the best I can. Sticking to my 2MAD woe. Looks like the key to my woe may be more IF than anything else.

Many are starting their 4th of July celebration today having a long holiday weekend. So everybody have a great and safe holiday.
