Default Small change, big difference for diabetics !

Hi, I'm a type 2 diabetic but unfortunately i am also a rabid bread lover but all i did was switch from Wonder Bread to Bunny bread (less than half the carbs) so i'm able to still eat the bread i love while keeping my blood sugar count good ! Also a pinch of cinnamon in my coffee or drink help a lot too ! ;-)

My husband saw a bread with no carbs called Hero Bread. From what i understand you can only get it online, it may be coming to Whole Foods if you have one near you, (we do not ). Maybe worth looking into.

Default Increase in Meds

My doctor increased my Victoza to 1.8 from 1.2. I was so proud that my FBS was in the 120's vs the 180's+, but I guess she wants it lower.

Dportela I can understand about the bread. Since I have been fighting cancer, I allow myself some bread but I don't crave it any more like I used to.

Tam Tam Some doctors are happy if your FBS stays under 8 and some less. It seems to depend on your doctor. I hope I will be able to eventually to my A1c back into 4s. It gwas 76 the night I went into the ER but they fed me so much sugar and starches the almost 2 weeks I was in there and compensated with insulin (hospital routine according to my Primary) so I was never sure what it really was.

Carol Sue I am concerned about you waking up with sweats. I think you may need to see your doctor about it. I wake up some nights and find I have been sweating, but since my hysterectomy, my harmones are crazy to the point it is like when I went through the change. My sister who had a partial hysterectomy years ago says that it will settle down. So don't let that go on too long for you.

I think I am a little stronger today. Until today, I have been able to only go to the potty and back to my recliner by myself once in the morning. Today I was able to do it twice. This seems to be the way I measure my improvement these days and while this is slow, it is an improvement.

Dportela, I have been eating Sara Lee Delightful 45 calorie bread and it doesn't have as big of an effect on my blood sugar.

I read online about night sweats and there could be many reasons. One of the reasons could be low blood sugar. This just started happening since I have been having lower blood sugar. One night I checked and my blood sugar was low. A couple times I didn't check but I should have. Most things have other symptoms, such as unexplained weight loss. When I see that I know I don't have it!

I appreciate the concern.

Carol Sue I forgot about sweating when bs goes low. You need to be careful with that too.

I had a good day today. Don't know if I will reach my goal by Friday but I think I will be close.

Good morning all. My FBS was 126 this morning, which is much better than 143 of yesterday. I did eat a few more carbs Sunday, mostly watermelon, so that is why I had the higher glucose, BUT still better than I was a few months ago when on a DAILY basis it was 185+. Have a blessed day ya'll.

Last night I did not sweat. At 4am I got up for the bathroom and checked blood sugar. It was 97 which is good for me but not low. It just so happens that at bedtime I ate a half of DHs tomato sandwich with his bread. That probably saved me from getting a hypo. I take a beta blocker and that stops me from getting shaky which is a sign of a hypo. I do know I have to be careful. This is why I test when I get up during the middle of the night. It helps when I don't eat carbs at dinner because then I don't need Glimiperide. I am down to a much smaller dose.

When I was diagnosed in the hospital they had me take 1 G per day in the morning. Thing is,my eggs in the morning are very low carb. They told me to spread my carbs, evenly for 3 meals. But I do better with 2 meals and most of my carbs are at dinner. Maybe I should eat later at night to prevent hypos. But when I did that before I got the dawn phenomenon and had a higher A1c.

I think DH is dieting. He skips breakfast almost daily now and when he does eat its much smaller than mine. He eats a small lunch which I rarely eat, but he gets hungry earlier for dinner. I like 4-5, but he likes 3-4. I hate when he starts eating while I'm cooking but it is really funny. I told his, daughter that he stands there with a plate and fork while I'm cooking and she laughed and laughed. They eat dinner at 7-8pm. He would die eating that late!

Before we met,he ate donuts all day, then at night he would go out for a beer and an order of French fries. Very healthy.

I slept a lot today, but got around better. The guy came to change out our damaged garage doors but they were not the same as what we have. So they had to take them back and order the correct ones.

Headed to bed now. I have 2 more days before I start chemo therapy again Friday.

Good night.

FBS was 136 this morning. We are having a new church directory done and we had our appointment to get our pictures taken, well as happens, they were running behind. We were going to eat supper before we went. but the sky was black and we did not want to get caught in a rain storm and look like drowned cats by the time we got to church, so we left early. We did not get home until after 9pm, very hungry, so we just had a bowl of cereal and milk to give us something but nothing too heavy. Today should be a normal eating day. Have a blessed day all.

Trish, I dont remember how your garage doors got damaged. I hope they get the right ones, soon. It seems so fast that its time for chemo again. I hope this is an easier one. My step children's mother had chemo and she told them " By the time you start to feel better its time for the next treatment."

Tammy I'm sorry you had to go so long without eating. That's hard when you aren't used to it.

I had a terrible night. I couldn't stop coughing, then I felt like I was going to throw up. So I went into the bathroom for an hour but I just coughed, didnt throw up. So I got a can of ginger ale and went back to bed. Then I finally fell back to sleep. I feel ok now. I had ravioli for dinner at 4 pm but didn't eat after that. I dont know what was wrong but I didn't sweat.

Bad news. DH just told me he changed his mind about the casino, and still wants to go to the one an hour away. The only good thing is I will have a place to sit to read and they have wifi. We will see how it goes. Also, when we go there we don't eat dinner. DH gets a hot dog to eat on the way home and I eat a,few of his French fries. We used to split the hot dog but I stopped that.

This is how it always goes. He tells me what I want to hear just to calm me down. By the time he tells me he changed his mind I'm over it. Trish,I know you are not surprised!

Tam my sorry things got behind and y'all had to wait so late to eat. Hopefully today will be better.
,
Carol Sue I wondered if your DH would stick to the plan. I think the only way he will change is if he gets to the point where he has no choice physically and I would hate that because it could be difficult for you. I guess you have to look at the bright side you will have a place to sit and read and have wifi and pray he will be able to drive home.

Our garage doors were damaged when we had that hail storm that damaged our roof. Remember the hail was baseball size. Our roof has been put on, but we still have to have the garage doors replaced and someone to come out and fix a place in our wood fence.

I don't know if I have mentioned that I have tingling and numbness in my hands and feet. In my feet is from the swelling and I notice it is worse during chemo therapy. I've told doctors over the years but they just look at me and never say anything. I think because they don't know what to do either. Well lately I have found different doctors talking about it online. DH even found a female doc talking about it on YouTube. We've taken alpha lipoic acid for years, but I learned that unless it has a r in front of the alpha lipoic acid that it is synthetic and does nothing for you. I read all the reviews on the r-alpha lipoic acid and people are getting relief and some get rid of it completely. DH ordered 3 bottles of it for me which is a 3 month suppy. I also read the importance of taking natural supplements instead of synthetic so I also re-ordered my B1 and B6 making sure I am getting natural. I watched a doctor from John Hopkins who recommends taking B1 and B6 along with B12 and D3 to help with this situation. I already take B12 and I think the D we take is D3. Not only is this supposed to help with neuropathy but the reviews said it lowered their blood sugar. This r-ALA is kind of expensive, but I want DH to take one a day and ditch the synthetic one we've been taking. I'm sure we took the real one in the beginning 20 yrs ago when I ordered it from the health food store but some where along the way we started buying from Walmart. As we run out of our supplements, I will be sure we are ordering the real ones and not synthetic.

Have a nice day everybody.

Trish, now I remember the storm that damaged your house. I'm glad you're getting it fixed.

Last night, or early this morning I was reading about RALA and read that it prevents cancer but now I can't find it.

From what I read, the regular is just not as potent. I should take it because of the heart benefits but I'm buying so many supplements. I need to eliminate some.

We got home at 1:30am. I didn't go to bed until 2 then I slept til 6:30. I'm tired but can't fall back to sleep. I dont like staying that late. We didn't win but didn't lose. There were a lot of trucks on the road and a few deer running across. That's scary. But we made it.

Here is the article that says RALA prrevents cancer. It is the 5th or 6th paragraph.

Here is another one

FBS 130, my fault, kind of overate on popcorn. Why does everything I like have to have carbs!!! Although on the bright side I am down another pound, so that is a good thing. We are babysitting the grand-dog, so he and I make a lap around our street, he is part dachshund, so he has short legs and he is 8 years old, and with the excessive heat, I don't wont to over do it with him.
