Carol Sue I don't know why but I have really gotten tired of meat. Fish doesn't bother me but I noticed lately that when I am getting meat ready to cook that I don't like the smell of it raw. I remember answering a question sheet before a chiropractor would treat me. He was checking to see if I had diabetes. One of the questions was if raw meat was offensive to me. At that time it was not and it isn't all the time now. I have to wonder if it was because I ate too much for me when eating low carb. Not sure or if it represents the fact that my bs was becoming more in control. Not sure what causes me to feel that way. I have no problem as long as it is cooked. Maybe I should research that. Also I'm wondering if it is caused from the probiotic I am taking.
That reminds me that I can taste my homemade sauerkraut today. I chose to let it make for 7 days before tasting it so I will taste it in a bit.
I by no means am suggesting anyone eat like I am, but I'm finding that now that I am eating more of a variety of the WW Freedom or Simply Filling/Core foods, that I'm not wanting bread so much either. I do get hungry for a piece of cheese toast once in a while, but even that is rare these day. If I wait until I really want something and realize that I really want it and eat it that once that satisfaction is done that I don't eat as much as I normally did. So now I find that there are times that I just wanted the taste and no more. I'm really feeling freer and hope this continues to work that way for me. As long as my weight and FBS is improving it is a win win for me.
Ahh friends: this life and our blood sugars make things difficult.
Carol: what kind of oatmeal was it? instant? rolled oats? large flake, steel cut? Cooked in water or milk?
I am sad if you can never have oatmeal, its still one of my favourites. I still allow myself some once a month. maybe more when I reach goal, whatever that may be.
But we all spike to different things. Maybe the coeliac affected my spikes with wheat, even sprouted grain breads.
It is still very hard for me to stay off baked goods. Today I went into Tim Hortons (famous Canadian coffee and donut place) They also make the best steeped tea. Well the only place with steeped tea, but I digress. But just seeing the donuts, muffins, cookies, I still really want them. I swear if not for the coeliac disease I would cave it. I almost cave in, in spite of it. so how could I judge someone else for having a snack? How many times before I started IF did I cave in and have snacks, and inappropriate ones.
So be gentle with yourself. I am glad at least your appetite is back. I am not sure what the deal is with raw meat. But maybe save meat eating for meals out or take out if it turns you off. With eggs and dairy, you will still get enough protein, even if you only eat out occasionally.
Trish, we usually recommend getting used to 16/8 then 18/6 and getting adapted to slightly higher fat or high fat eating. You will have to experiment with what is right for you. Then you get to 22 hrs by going from supper to supper. Only then do you go past 24 hrs.
I suspect age affects our ability to fat adapt and adapt to fasting. Reading the facebook page, I get the idea that the older we are the harder it is to get to prolonged fasting. The younger people and the men seem to be able to do it sooner. Different bodies. Don't sweat it for now. Remember I was at it a while before fasting really happened for me.
DH is out, and I am going to fast tonight. I am not sure about tomorrow now, turns out he will be home tomorrow night, but not until fairly late. Let's see how I get through the night. I am feeling pretty hungry. Time for some salt
fatmad Thanks for the info and suggestions for working up to the 24 hr fast. I really appreciate your help.
We got the pills and plan today. I won't follow the diet plan exactly because I'm not willing to give up dairy. I'm sure DH won't either. However, I think the plan is a lot for people who don't normally cook or have time to etc. It has a kickstart but I won't do that either since I've already been dieting. The diet is basically the old 4 food groups but it does stress making healthy foods choices such as complex carbs rather than simple although it doesn't say it that way. Also it stresses cooking them healthy. Even tells how to plan meals for 7 days at a time for people on the run. So it is a good plan. It gives a plan for breakfast, lunch and dinner with suggestions as well as 2 snacks if needed for guidelines.
Suggested meals are Breakfast 2 servings proteins, 1 veggie serving and 2 carbohydrate servings and 1 fat serving; Lunch is 2 servings Protein, 2 servings veggies, 1 serving carbohydrate and 1 fat, Dinner is to be 1 serving protein, 2 veggies, 1 carbohydrate and 1 fat. Snacks are supposed to be either a Protein or a combo of a protein and a carb. That one is familiar. LOL
This came before our lunch, but I had already taken the pills I have been taking so I didn't start the new ones yet. DH took one of his today. I will start this tomorrow. Although I read that you don't use dairy, it does talk about eating yogurt and eggs which usually are listed under dairy. So I may be able to follow the plan after all or at least close to it. I mean I am trying to build up my bone density because I would like to have the test done again in a couple of years to see if I can improve it. So I will keep the lowfat milk and dairy that I use. I don't over do it but I want to get the recommended 2 or 3 servings a day. I will take your suggestion fatmad and start with the 8:16 and work up to the 6 etc to get to the 24 hr fast. If I could do just 24 hrs 1 day a week for a while it would accomplishment.
I did 2M and 1 snack yesterday and today. Yesterdays was stretched way out, but todays was within 7 hr window. I count that as a good thing today. Got my new pills ready for me to take tomorrow and am shooting for a 6 to 7 hrs eating window tomorrow. I am really excited about this.
If you remember the Low Carb for Dummies book said dairy, fruit and veggies free foods and eat no more than 5 servings of complex carbohydrates, but no simple carbs. Even the protein was no problem as long as lean. So I figure that I can use my old idea of a minimum amount of 3 carbohydrates. I don't think I need more than 2MAD and I'm hoping I can leave off the snack most days but will plan for it just in case I need it. I really want to fit this into an IF plan. That is the great thing about IF is that you can follow any plan that works for the individual.
I made the pizza and loaded my half with riced cauliflower blend and broccoli that comes chopped really good. Then I chopped some fresh onion toppings. I usually cut in half the pizza so DH can have his with just the sauce, cheese and crumbled turkey sausage. Once I get all together for a sausage pizza, I load my half with veggies. I usually can eat two slices and all the toppings on the 3rd slice. Today, the 3rd slice went down the disposal. All those veggies on my half just filled me up so much that just the site of the 3 slice made me sick. This is so amazing to me. I am thrilled with this.

Trish, does the plan tell you what amount constitutes a serving, such as Protein, Carbs, Vegetables etc? Also, does it say if the carbs include starchy carbs?
I just googled about eggs being considered dairy. It said eggs are definitely NOT dairy. Dairy is products from milk of mammals, such as milk, cheese, yogurt, butter, but that does not include eggs. Many people consider eggs to be dairy because they are usually sold in the dairy case, but that is because they need to be refrigerated. I consider eggs to be protein, and they also contain good fat.
I am thinking of adding a DRINK of ACV with water into my routine. Lots of info about increasing satisfaction with a meal, etc.
Some on the sites claim it helps reduce hunger when fasting. According to the above info, it needs to be taken just before a meal.
A little of the "water" trick before a meal to reduce appetite, with the benefit of lowered glucose response after the meal from the vinegar?
I figure its not harmful as long as I don't overdo it, and can be taken while fasting. It might help me get past some difficult times. So if I am successful today, this is my 2nd day of fasting now. I may eat tonight, or wait until tomorrow. On my original plan I would have eaten at lunch and supper, now I will wait at least until supper, but if DH will be home later (he is no longer staying away tonight) after supper, I plan to wait for lunch or supper tomorrow. Get that autophagy going stronger.
I notice the article doesn't talk about ACV capsules, and I wonder about dose. 2 teaspoons seems to be the dose that would be 10 mis, and depending on capsule size that would be many, and depending on the substance making the capsule, may not be good for me, especially while fasting. I tried drinking 2 teaspoons diluted with water, and its just like slightly sour apple cider to me, so no problem. I like pickles generally, so I think if you are a pickle person, its not bad. I understand that some really hate it. DH does not like pickles, so I would not expect he would like ACV.
I have been interested since you have been talking about it here, and its easy to add. I have a natural type with a "mother" that I have been using in home made salad dressings, so no new purchases needed.
Have a good day everyone.

Mad, I have tried the ACV with water and didn't notice any real difference, but I was using it for blood sugar not appetite suppressant. I have tried adding lemon juice to it to mask the taste, but then I got used to the taste and it's OK. I have heard of other people who used the supplement but don't know if they work the same. ACF is said to have many healthful properties.

Trish, my DH has a bit of a belly and he does not drink beer, either. Some who drink a lot of beer might get it, but I think it's caused by carbs. DH eats a lot of carbs, such as sweets and potatoes, potato chips, etc. He doesn't really gain much weight anywhere else.
fatmad I took ACV pills and drank it but never thought it helped me at all, however, there was a time that I did eat my salads with ACV and EVOO and for a while nothing happened. Then all of a sudden one day my FBS started being good most of the time. So it can't hurt to try it. This new plan I'm on has homemade dressing that is made with 1 c water, 1/4 c ACV, 1Tbls Garlic salt (to taste) and 1/4 c Olive oil. 2 Tbls spoon is a serving with a fuel value of 20. I haven't figured out what the fuel value is yet. I need to spend the day reading it. I would probably add my Mrs. Dash Garlic seasoning in it instead of Garlic salt just because I like the flavors in it. Since using ACV and EVOO as a dressing did eventually work for me, perhaps I didn't give the pills or drink time to work. It won't hurt for you to try it.
Carol Sue Yes the information is there for the size of servings along with the amount of fuel value of each. I just have to figure out how that part of this works. I need to read more but I think the carbohydrate can be either a starch or a fruit choice, but I need to read more.
It has a 7 day Reset which I do not understand. I think eggs are allowed as a protein. Protein is 3 oz servings of chicken, turkey or fish eggs or 2 oz raw nuts. Veggies are broccoli, carrot, cucumber, lettuce spinach, onion and tomato. Carbs are apples, berries, melons, orange/grapefruit, beans or potatoes/yams. Fats are olive oil Other staples are ACV, cinnamon sticks and seasonings which are considered a 0 fuel value. There is an Extended Food List to pick from which has a gray list to avoid during this 7 weeks but can be added the following week.
At this time, I will not follow the 7 Day Reset plan. I pretty much already eat this way any way except for the oatmeal. If after a week or 2 I decide I need to go back and do it then I will.
FBS was 154 this morning which is good. I didn't take the other supplements I was using for diabetes since I want to give the Release pills a chance to work. I did have oatmeal, bacon, eggs and yogurt this morning along with the 1st pill. I felt a little foggy and some jitteriness, but checked my bp and it is good so I assume it is just stopping the other supplements and starting the new. I will be very careful. I haven't been feeling good the past 2 days any way so probably doesn't have anything to do with the pills. If I didn't know better I would have thought I was reacting to the flu shot but I took it weeks ago.
I really think a lot of my problem is that I need to pull back on some of the fiber carbs. Remember I said the other day that the oatmeal blend I make is too much so I may have to cut it back some more. I'm trying to get the full benefit of the oats and yogurt, but since I threw away 1/4 of it I might as well not make that much any more.
I suspect the ability of ACV to moderate blood sugar is small, but appreciable. Also its another in the "probiotic" line apparently so thats good too.
I have been rinsing mouth with water, apparently its acidic enough must be careful about brushing after these highly acidic drinks. I am on call soon, but hope for some sleep tonight none the less.
I broke my fast with supper, later than supper on Tuesday, so it was 48 hours. Had a big feast-like supper, with spaghetti squash with sauce and parmesan, "whisps" with guacamole, and pumpkin pudding with cream. That will do me all night. Enjoying some decaf tea now, and will get in the hot tub soon. DH and I will have a good sleep tonight I suspect.
Hi Ladies, If a lurker may add her brief experience with ACV fwiw A couple of years ago, I drank 'good girl's moonshine' a mixture of 1 TBS ACV in 1L water with some ginger and a couple drops of stevia every day for 2-3 weeks.Shortly thereafter, my dentist tried to sell me a night guard because my teeth looked so worn. She assumed I was grinding them. EVen my front teeth looked pretty worn, suddenly. Once I stopped the ACV (and got a new DDS), my teeth looked normal again. I didn't think to try a straw. The beverage was really good, and satisfying--I felt that it did help with appetite.

Wt 197 FBG 167. It was 136 around 7 AM but I went back to bed until 9 and it went up during that time.
Hi Sundove. How are you doing? Always good to see you stop in here. Lurk away, and jump right in anytime!
Thanks for the information about your experience with the dentist. I never drank the ACV water long term so no dental problems. I thought of drinking it through a straw because I always did that when I drank any cola products, too to avoid the acid on my teeth. I drank Diet Coke for years and years but never experienced any dental problem from it so maybe the straw helps.
My FBS has popped back up into the pre-diabetic range. There are couple of things going on that may have contributed. I ran out the the digestive enzyme supplement. Also, I was not successful in running the Walmart gauntlet of candy and bought some. I hoping with some minor changes I can get it back into the normal range. Also, I haven't had much luck with getting the scale to go in the right direction.
With regard to the GOLO supplement, I took a look that the ingredients and think it is an interesting mix. I've read about most of them when learning about different things. Aside from the ones aimed at blood sugar, some of them are good for thyroid function. One ingredient is considered an adaptogen (helps the body deal with stress). I took it at one point. It is not suppose to have any side effects but I got a mild headache after taking it for a while. That happens with me for a lot of supplements so I think I am just an odd duck. Another ingredient has an epigenetic affect (change gene expression).
It was weight day this morning. and I was back below 159 even though I ate last night. Bowels have also been sluggish, and movement there (haha) may help too. Today is a 2MAD day for me. I had to run shortly after weight check this morning to attend for a delivery. Every thing went well, except that I was crouching/bending for the delivery, because of the mama's position, and seem to have pulled a muscle in my back.
Its unexpected, I have felt pretty healthy and well, and in good shape. It was bad enough, was hurting to move and breath enough that I called another midwife in to provide the aftercare so I could do minimal work, just paper/computer stuff. She sent me home after an hour of that, I took some pain meds and had a hot tub and am feeling better now. Hope that its temporary. The meds are making me sleepy. Codeine also really constipates me, so I took some senna with it, in hopes I won't have that problem.
I think DH wants wings for supper tonight too, so that plan is made.
Sundove, thanks for your perspective on ACV. People on the other sites do say to be sure not to brush for an hour afterward. I have been rinsing with plain water after as well, but Carol, a straw is a great idea. I have a firm plastic reusable one, so no worries about the litter.
It was also very nice at the hospital today, all the nurses noticing my weight loss. I am not there very often so they see the effect more sometimes. It was nice validation.
Pipsicle I know the evil of the candy aisle. The smell alone will raise blood sugar, I swear. I am making DH do the store shopping right now. I am avoiding.
He was talking about buying some and I reminded him, only on Hallowe'en day, and it all goes out that night. I will not promise not to eat any that night, but it will be limited. On the other hand, I really want my weight into the mid 150s by then, so maybe I will be motivated not to have any. My birthday is just after Hallowe'en so maybe I will promise myself my low-carb, gluten-free hazelnut torte cake and forego the chocolate. The cake is so good, its worth giving up candy for it.
DH usually takes me to the Keg for steak, but if we could find a good seafood place, that might be fine.
Hmmm, listen to me get excited about food, after all the fasting I have been doing this week.
Have a great day friends.
