Carol Sue Glad all went well even though he wants you to go for the testing. Let me know how the spiralized sweet potato goes. Since I'm now going less meat, I may try it too is you like it that way.

DGS is coming by for a quick visit today before he goes to work tonight. Of course, he was supposed to call and come over now, but no word. May have changed his mind. I was going to cook lunch for him if he was going to be here when we eat around 3.

I'm cooking cod fish today. The flexible part of my diet plan. I guess I am more of a Flexitarian than vegetarian if I had to put a name on it. I'm eating oatmeal for breakfast now. I read it helps us lose weight and it should as I started getting full about 1/2 way through so just saved it for tomorrow morning.

DH worked on cleaning up the living room last night. I didn't help much as I was just too tired. I did put the smaller boxes that I had packed in the closet in what was DGS room. This morning I spent time cleaning up my kitchen. I still have a long way to go with it, but I'm going through and throwing out things. I can actually see the top of the cabinets. I'm giving away some food we won't be using. I will take it to my beautician since her daughter and her family have moved in with her and I'm sure she can use them.

We have to get some Sunday newspapers on the way home Sunday after church for packing some what nots so they won't get broken. Also need to get some boxes too.

Well, break is over so I guess I better go. Will check back in when I can.

Trish, it's hard packing for a move, but at least you get things cleaned out and get rid of some things you've been hanging on to for too long. I have a lot of stuff like that.

I was wondering something. I remember a while back when your DH lost his sense of taste and was wondering if that has been resolved. I hope so.

We went to the casino yesterday so I ate a big dinner, but it was low carb. A lot of meat and shrimp. They used to have a good selection of veggies but there wern't many yesterday except for the salad bar. I am a little bit leary of eating salad bars because the preservatives some of them use cause me some digestive problems. My sugar was up because of the volume of food I ate, but it's not something I do every day. I don't expect to be hungry again until dinner.

I was reading online about spirilizing sweet potatoes and they showed a different way to do it. You peel the potato and stick a thin rod down through the middle. Then you cut around and around the potato and it creates curly fries, that you can either fry or bake. I think I might try this today. I have nothing else pressing to do, except laundry. LOL

Carol Sue Ever once in a while DH tongue gets tender, but his taste seems to be back.

We are about to get our living room nice and presentable. We went by Walmart on the way home from church to buy a bunch of Charlotte newspapers today because they are larger on Sunday so we can wrap and pack our nick-nacks. We have so many of them. Some were DH Mothers and some were his 1st wife's and then I have some of my own. Strange when people don't know what to buy for you that is what they buy you. I always wanted them but couldn't afford them now I have way too many.

It is so true that I do have to get rid of some things. I just am not going to have room for everything. I will give away what I can and throw out a lot of other things.

I have gained weight and then started losing again but extremely slow. I guess that is ok. Some days the FBS is good and some are not but the later readings are pretty good when I do check them so I guess I'm doing ok. These days are just so haphazard. Tomorrow we need to go see the pastor and tell him we are moving so he can get someone else to do the part of the prayer ministry that we do then go get our medications and we need to go to Low's and see them about getting someone to come stretch our carpet up stairs. We need find someone to come clean our carpet. I'm thinking about getting one of those house cleaning ladies to come do the woodwork for me since I just can't do that these days.

My Daddy and sister went by the house the day the builders got our earnest check and they had already put a sold sign in the front yard. I hope to be able to contact the lady who is interested in my house by the end of the week so she and her husband can come see it and decide if they want to make us an offer. Things are getting busy. DH and I are sore from all this activity. Need to wash the sheets from our bed, but I'm just too tired. I've decided to wait and do it tomorrow.

DGS came by long enough to eat lunch with us. Didn't say much or stay very long. It was good to see him.

I hope everyone is doing good. I'll try to check in again tomorrow.

Trish, my mother-in-law used to get mad when the kids always bought her knick knacks. LOL They never knew what to buy her. Now that she is gone I have a few of hers that remind me of her. I hope my step-daughter takes them after I am gone. She isn't really very sentimental about things like that, but I am. One of them is a ceramic cat that DH bought her when he was 10 years old. It means a lot to both of us to have that.

I did pretty good with my food today. Around 1000 calories. I had a bit too many carbs, around 100gm, but I am mainly working on eating less, and I am hoping not to eat anything now the rest of the evening. Then a late breakfast will give me a 16 hour fast.

Today I was reading from Dr Fung's blog of 7/7, recommended to me by another poster. In it he said that we as diabetics should not be eating a high protein diet, but should be including a lot of vegetables. I was so happy to see that because that reinforces my preferences for a diet of protein and vegetables. So many low carb diets tell you to reduce your vegetable consumption and I don't think I ever want to do that, or believe that vegetables are harmful. Things just work differently for diabetics. He also uses the word "reverse" when he speaks of diabetes, but I will forgive him for that. LOL

Well, we talked to our pastor today and told him that we are moving. He understood why when I told him my Daddy is 93 and I want to be with him and DH told him we want to be around my family as we have no family here and we need to move into a smaller house.

Strange thing is he mentioned talking to the man who owns the real estate company we thought of using just recently and he told him that they have no houses to list as they are selling so fast. He seems to think we will get a really good price for our house selling it at this time. He also thought we should sell it ourselves and save the 7 or 8% realtor's fee. So now that he knows, I will talk to one of the ladies at our church who used to work for title company owned by her best friend. I had an idea of how much I wanted to ask for the house but had decided not to ask that much, but pastor told us what he thought we should ask and then come down. It was exactly the price I originally wanted to ask for it.

I haven't felt like we needed to rush to sell the house since I know we need time to let them get our home ready for us to move in. It looks like things just might fall in place for us if homes are selling as fast as they say they are. They say people are moving here from up north and they are paying cash for our homes. Amazing.

Hi everyone

My laptop died, so I haven't been on. I hope everyone is doing well.

I'm ok, but worried about my wife. She's been having higher than normal blood sugars and is very overweight. She is not diagnosed as diabetic or pre diabetic, but when she eats a lot of carbs she doesn't feel well and gets very sweaty (so we've been checking her blood sugars). The other night it was pushing 200!!! Since then it's been between 115 and 140, but I'm concerned she's walking herself into my shoes She has an appointment with the doctor at the end of the month. She recently got her A1C tested and it came back ok, so we're both concerned and a bit confused too... Anyway, that's what's up on my end.

Hope everyone is well. Have a great day!

Carol Sue and Trish my chatty friends ... I just saw a you tube video about how to spiral a potato an easy ways to neatly slice other things (the things kids watch that help mommy) ... hope you're both having a great day

Trish, I think it's a great idea to hire a cleaning crew. I want to actually do the same thing. Someone to help us get better organized

JesikaBeth, I never thought about too many carbs and sweating. I know caffeine will cause excessive sweating. I'll have to try a no carb afternoon and evening and see how I do during the night. Hope she feels better soon

p.a. hope you're enjoying your vacation

I haven't tried my spirlized sweet potato yet because I'm trying to keep my food volume low. I am down 1 lb this morning, a recycled pound from what I gained, but a loss just the same. My blood pressure and blood sugar are both good, and I have cut back to only half of my Glimiperide.

Hello all. My name is Broccoli and I'm new to these boards. Very close to hitting rock bottom, so time to make some changes.

36 years old.
224lb
5'5"
Diabetic for 3 years.
7.3 A1C.
Taking Metformin along with anti anxiety and anti depression medication.

Weight in the past 3 years has been anywhere from 175 to 228, most of the time spent around the 200 mark.

I was once 250lb (about 7 years ago).

Very high triglycerides.

And in the midst of all of this, trying to conceive baby #1. Been trying for about 10 months.

For the past two months, I've been trying half-assed, with some exercise, and some food swaps. Now it's time for a full out pledge to truly change, and to truly try... so I am here.

I look forward to getting to know all of you and for the mutual support.

Thank you for reading.

Hi everyone
Welcome broccoli!
JB, people have asked me if I had any symptoms before being diagnosed and one thing I tell them is I was always hot and sweaty and always had red cheeks! I used to blame it on menopause but other then the occasional hot flash now That I'm on meds and have my diabetes under control I'm good. It has a lot to do with hormones and insulin.
Carol when I get knock knacks now it's usually things my grandkids had made. I can't keep them all out so I rotate them as I get them. Put the older ones away to keep and replace with newer ones.
Trish I'm slowlyyyyyy getting rid of summer pounds to. I'm noticing my clothes arn't fitting as well as they did! Time to reign eating back again. I threw away 'treats' I had here and back to low carb. Fun is over.
Thanks lovetobe ,,,

I had no symptoms that I can think of, but then, I was having heart symptoms, so they were more of a concern to me. It was the day after heart surgery that they diagnosed the diabetes. I did get very sluggish and sleepy after I ate sweets, and I notice that same thing happening now when I eat something that spikes my blood sugar. Sugar is supposed to give you instant energy, but it gives me a snooze. I have heard it said that many people have type 2 for a long time and don't know it unless they get bloodwork done. DH's friend found out when he went into a coma and was rushed to the ER.

Wink Is Fuzzy Vision a Pre Diabetic Symptom?

This past year especially my eyes get dry and fuzzy. This also seems to happen when it half way through the day and I feel tired before dinner. After dinner it seems better. I still am always using eye drops though.

1BlueRose68, Those symptoms could be signs of diabetes, or they could be caused by something else. Best to get it checked by a doctor. Let us know how it turns out. If you are suspecting it's diabetes, then it's a good chance it is.
