So happy to have found this thread! I'm getting back in the game after a long hiatus, so it's great to set a goal and join you all. I started the year at 292, and I would like to be 276 by the end of the month. I'm doing well this week, just gotta keep it up! Good luck all!

Woohoo, Jacqui_D! Forty pounds down is awesome!

SW: 75.2kgs
CW: 75.9 kgs (+1.15 kgs)
GW: 74.7 kgs

Whoa! That was quite a sodium bump. Oh well, shoveling snow and drinking water should take care of it.

WOW !!!

Stop the world and let me offff..................

This thread is MOVING

Usually we hit 7 pages on the 8th of the month, this month already half way down page 10 and only the 4th of the month

Jacqui: Congrats on the 40 lbs mark WTG And about those 5 posts I lost.... that occurred over three days, it was frustrating enough that I no way could do that 5 times in a straight in a row But thanks for thinking I could

shr1nk1ngme: About carrying 22 extra lbs with you on your two mile walks..... Extra weight that we carry destroys our knees etc as it is, were you to walk an extra 1/4 mile, about 10 minutes, would burn the same amount of calories and not endanger your joints, especially the feet and knees. They wear out too soon as it is............ think about it.

jennybutler357: I googled that phentermine, that stuff is in the methamphetamine family, and they are a rotten bunch

ajlee33: "Kinda cheated yesterday with a piece of bacon" Gosh, one piece of bacon is only 20-50 calories... No biggie But myself, I doubt that I could stop at one piece, LOVE THAT STUFF LOL Good going !!

kelijpa: You mentioned that weight loss makes things taste sweeter, YES, I REALLY noticed that. I mentioned in a few posts back that I bought an apple and a pumpkin pie and intended to eat some of that during Xmas..... Jazqui quipped in that she loved pumpkin pie. It is practically my favorite also, however, I got one slice, it was so darn sweet I could not stand it I only ate one piece of it but did not want to 'fess up to that. I bought some yams and will make my own sweet tater pie maybe next week, it is about the same as pumpkin. Or I just may make my own pumpkin with much less sugar. Thanks for the info

pnkrckpixikat: Thanks for mentioning those inclined pushups, I will find out how much of an incline I can handle and start doing some of those also. I have way too much artheritis in my shoulders, have not been able to do a pushuo for thirty years now, but I used to knock them off forever. Oh well.....

NightAngel: "Big Fat Rooster, 183stgb: sorry, didn't mean to mislead you, I'm not pregnant really " Thanks, I am very happy to be wrong And what a handsome baby........... WOW!! I must be the father..........

lemc87: Good idea cutting out the no-no junk foods, soda and chips etc. Speaking for myself, I have cut those out and all processed foods except for water packed canned tuna and a few canned goods, mainly beans. The only problem I see with those two is the large amount of sodium. I also cut out all dairy products (ugh) and all lunch meats such as salami, Bologna, ham, etc. For lunch meats now, I cook my own, something like chicken or turkey breast or tongue (my favorite) and slice them up for sandwichs. I have also cut way back on bread having way fewer sandwiches than I was having when first on this weight loss trip. I plan on remaining off processed foods entirely due to the unhealthy additives in them but will try to work a few dairy back in when I get to maintenance weight. But for now, for me, I am having a time wanting to go low carb but cannot go with too much meat due to risk of gout. Trying to work my way through all that. Catch 22 stuff.

Susan: "Hope everyone is staying warm and safe with all the snowing going on all over. I am in SC and it has been cold and windy here." That goes for me also Susan, I am in Southern California and we also will get just a bit of cooling off as the rest of you have to go through that super cold spell coming your way. Don't remember who it was on the frozen water pipes, but I bought a house up at Lake Arrowhead some years back and it had suffered a bunch of frozen and busted water pipes. First thing I did was purchase some of that heat tape made for running on water pipes and putting it on all exposed pipes then adding that foam rubber insulation over them. No more problems with freeze. I would recommend getting some very fast and getting it on there. It uses very little electricity, it only comes on when the temps get down close to freezing and only put out enough heat to keep them from freezing. Well worth it. Good luck all of ya, feel for you in this upcoming storm.

Sum38: "Even after a trip to a Brazilian steak house I stayed the same" LMAO thanks for the laugh Sum, and keep up the good work, U do great

I did not find where it was on this second trip through in reading the posts, but someone mentioned that they heard that if a person eats way less, their stomach shrinks. That is VERY true, and the last time I lost weight it did exactly that for me. However on that time, my weight loss plan was similar to this time as far as eating went but I was able to exercise and did so heavily and lost a lot of weight really rapidly. One very important thing I did was to do a lot of exercise before breakfast. Being as it was winter and we got a lot of snow in the mountains, a large part of my exercise was indoors, and my stairs was the most important part. I would run up and down the stairs several times, do some pushups and other exercises, then run up and down some more. Doing exercise before breakfast makes one lose their appetite, the body gets it's energy source from the stored fat reducing the fat, the liver converting fat to glucose and releasing that into the bloodstream. Then when I did feel the need to eat, I had made my mind up to eat just enough for what I thought the body needed. Two months into that and down more than 40 lbs. I was down in Riverside visiting my best friend and doing some construction report work gratis for his wife. Anyway, we went to a Chinese place and he ordered orange chicken. I had never heard of it, but ordered same. We got a heaping plate each. I ate about a third of mine and was feeling full.... He was chowing down on his. We used to eat the same way. He asked what was wrong, didn't I like it? LOL It was absolutely delicious, but no way could I eat that if I wanted to, nor did I want to. That was when I realized my stomach had indeed shrank, and shrank a lot. And now with this diet, I do not eat to feel full, and stop way short of that........ Usually

Joy, and all of you, you have been doing great. I counted 44 people on this thread while ago Due to the great posting by most of you, and especially Jacqui with her outstanding personals which are uncannily right on Thanks again all of ya with a special thanks to Jacqui.

Being as I relaxed my goal amount down to a more reasonable 8 lbs, I started having more difficulty sticking on plan. Doing much better today and hope to get it tightened back down right, goal or no goal. Something I gotta do for me. What do they say........... "Give a kid an inch and they will take a mile." From my 5th grade teacher, Ms Boley, 95 years old, maybe 90 lbs and spry as a 30 year old Guess I had better give my inch back

Thanks again all of ya

B F R

AJlee33: "big-fat-rooster do you eat before you workout In the morning??"

No, I don't. That would defeat most of the purpose. Eating prior and one would not feel as much like working out and the food gets in t he way, for one thing, and the second thing is the body will immediately start converting fat to glucose to provide energy for the body and start burning the fat store. However, I am one of those whose body releases glucose very early in the morning to provide energy for the body and I do not need any added energy. Then when exercising, the body will pick up fat from the fat cells, carry them to the liver for conversion to glucose, and still no hunger for most of the time a person is very active and then for some time after. I seldom eat earlier than 10:am and often, like today, go til noon before I eat.

Good luck with yours

Default howdy...

well, I figured I'd update today...I had my first pasta in a while. We went to dinner and I really didn't want to offend so I ate a half portion of lasagna and a piece of garlic bread and salad. I hope it doesn't hurt.

Also, thanks everyone who's been writing to me.

BFR: you're so funny.... and boy you wrote a bunch today!! I know this thread moves fast doesn't it? your "stop the world" comment....have you seen that play?? it's funny but omg long. Also ty for chiming in on the smaller stomach concept I thought I had heard that before and it seems reasonable.

Also..... anybody want to recommend their favorite tracker thing to wear? I'm looking intently at the fitbit force....would like it to track sleep as well as burn, calories, etc.... I have android devices or can use my computer...not so much mac but we do have a mac laptop. So, best thing? kinda like the armband but prob the wrist is more stable....??

Default First time I have tried dieting in decades

I'm in. My apathy is so yesterday. I am doing Ideal Protein. Start weight as of January 2 was 235. Goal for January. Stick to the Ideal Protein diet and see how far I can go in a healthy manner. So far 2 days and I (and the children and husband) are still breathing. Question? how do I do the scale that you all have on your threads?

good morning

I'm still doing well with studying - go me! 2 more days till class comes back (and the library opens, haha).

kelijpa glad to see the scale is moving the right way!

susan1975 nice drop!

NightAngel26 I'm not sure if a stomach can really shrink or if the brain just tells you you're full faster if you eat less for a while. I just googled that and those two options came up. In any case, we should eat less :P
my belly ain't perfect either - but working on it I love the 30 day shred! Hope you got to do your workout DVD!

pnkrckpixikat you have no idea how glad this entire dorm was when the hot water came back Keeping my fingers crossed you're losing the water weight!

allyp amazing drop! well done.

Jacqui_D congrads on being down 40lbs! Great milestone in this journey.

ajlee33 stick with your plan and you'll see a loss soon good luck.

finale happy to see you join us. 16lbs is a big goal for one month, but if you stick to your plan you can do it. I like the "I'm in control of my life and my future." -- because it is so true.

Big Fat Rooster I noticed I am less hungry when I exercise before breakfast, too. Research actually supports that (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/ar...-body-fat.html). But I also noticed that when I exercise in the morning (especially running) I am tired and worn out the entire day, so it isn't really worth it when I need to be productive... also I like my bed too much.
Anyways, for staying on plan!

SharShar1, freckfrecks and Joyfulme We can do this!!

Have a great day!
