Vortgirl: POP is "perfect on plan" which can be exercise-wise, eating wise, whatever you want it to be. For me, it was eating. I was snacking way too much, so I'm going to watch what I eat.

So last night was my first night training at the new gym. Not sure why, but I was really nervous - probably something to do with not working out due to ARP, so it's been 3 weeks since my last workout. It was strange not working out with back pain...that was a first. Jeff is really working me hard, doing 5 minute wall sits, isometric lunges, etc. In the course of an hour I burned 700 calories! That's just crazy...and I was using my own body weight most of the time. Crazy how it works. I told him my goal was to be down 2 sizes by October, and he said no problem.

Jeff is also really getting into the nutrition part of my workout...so I have to write down everything I eat. So, guess I'll have to be POP all the time now! I can tell he's much happier at this gym, he's more focused and really working me hard, which is what I need now. The tough love is coming, I can tell.

So, with my splurge over the weekend, I was up to 210, which nearly killed me. So, drinking lots of water and eating right, I got back to 207.0, which is down .2 pounds - so, this is my lowest weight in years. Onederland here I come.

Jeff is teaching a free class tonight, and since he's a new trainer, he's offering it for free. So, I'll see whether or not I like it, and perhaps I'll sign up for that once or twice a week. That, on top of my other workouts, will keep me busy. I'm going to build up to my 6 times a week and get this weight gone!

Have a great day ladies!

vortgirl - happy belated birthday!!! One day doesn't seem like enough to really gain 2lbs so you're probably just seeing water weight on the scale. I'm sure they'll come back off soon. I hope everything goes well for your grandfather.

maddiesmom - you are just a tiger - a 700-cal workout your first day back!??!! Wow! congrats on your new low!! I'm so glad things are going well for you - you really deserve it. And you're a great inspiration for all of us.

I'm planning on going to my 2nd zumba class tonight so that will probably help with some evening appetite suppression so I'm hoping to stick to plan exactly today. I'm thinking I'll fit in a run tomorrow morning and then maybe gardening again after work on Friday. I'm really going to try to get seriously back in the groove - thank goodness for you girls keeping me in line!

B: berries, lf yogurt (I know, I'm getting boring )
L: rotisserie chicken, fruit cup, green beans
D: turkey spag sauce on whole wheat pasta, salad

neesy - what's the latest on Korea? When do you leave?

burgundy - are you getting in miles today?

mygrits - ok, now that you're a lady of leisure (lucky devil!), we're going to expect to see you around here regularly! I have a feeling this is going to be your summer of skinnyness

Hope you all are having a great day!

Dance: Enjoy Zumba! I really should look into that, our park district offers it...but then again, when do I have the time with everything else I'm doing? LOL Thanks for the "congrats." It was good being back in the gym actually working out. Whenever I complained, Jeff threatened me with ARP, so that put a stop to that!

So tonight I'm going back to the gym. Jeff it teaching a "Sycofit" class that's free this week, so I'm going to check it out. It claims that you can loose 1-3 inches of belly fat and increase your endurance, so I'm all for that. It's for all fitness levels, so it should be fun. Jeff isn't expecting too many people tonight, so it could be another personal training session for me! I posted about the free class on FB, trying to get more people in the door for him so he can teach this class more often. Hopefully someone can come in with me.

Anyways, POP is still going strong...Day 3. I only had a few bites of the hot fudge sundae last night, so I'm still considering it POP, it was extenuating circumstances. So, here's the food today:

B: Special K protein shake
S: Almonds
L: Big salad with lots of veggies
S: Fresh strawberries / grapes (I have them in the car and snack with Maddie on the way home)
D: Rotisserie chicken with veggies, don't have time for much else - I'm dropping Maddie off at home, changing for the gym, and leaving again to get to the gym by 6.

How is everyone else doing??

Hi Girlfriends........

Thanks for understanding, and since not working my heel is a 'tad' better. It still hurts to walk, but I'm not having the burning feeling anymore, and that would literally may me clench my teeth. Maddiesmom I am not looking right now, and am focusing on the home business. I am giving it a month or so to see how it goes, and then I will re-evalulate at that point. I could fall into an office job fairly quick if I were closer to Orlando, but in little Deland it's not that easy. Time will tell, but for now 'pinching pennies.' LOL......

Hello Vortgirl and thank you to you too! I am sorry about your grandfather and will keep him in my prayers. You are allowed to 'have a day' for your birthday, remember it's a lifestyle change and as long as your back on track the next day - it's OK. Keep up the good work!!

Maddiesmom - man oh man I wish I lived near you! 700 calories!!! Dang! I would love to have Jeff as a trainer and would definitely attend his free class.......bummer. He seems to really care, which is awesome with a trainer and mentor. I am proud of you. I get tired just reading what you have done each day! LOL....

Dance I'm here! LOL........Zumba sounds like so much fun. I had a girlfriend a few years ago that went to Ft. Myers for training classes on teaching it. She loved it. I never went to a class, but heard great things about it. Gardening huh? I am doing that tomorrow.......

Ok, today was good for food, but no exercise. I know, I know.....I will be at it soon enough. I am trying to get my heel better, so I can hit the pavement. I will ride the bike starting Friday, but need to get a softer seat. My arse hurts...... Tomorrow I am heading at 5:30am to Orlando to work in my moms yard again. It is looking much better, but I still have more planting and weeding to get to. I am anxious for it to warm up, because I then want to get in their pool after the yard work. I think it would be good for my Dad.

K, calling it a night. Hope tomorrow is great for everyone. Burgund and Neesy HELLO......

Vicky-thanks, May is tough bt we are celebrating their lives. I was only 9 months when my dad died but I still miss him. I was so proud of myself yesterday at breakfast. I got an omelet made with egg beaters, with ham just a little cheese and peppers and onions. The waitress asked if I wanted pancakes, toast or hashbrowns and I turned it all down and just had salsa with my omelet. So happy for you that the treatments worked. Back pain is not fun. You are amazing burning 700 cals. I agree with Sandy, I want jeff as my trainer too.

Dance-didnt read any of the detox book today, want to finish just not sure its for me. I got 3 miles in today, wanted to do more but time got away from me.

Vort-I bet some or all of that 2 lbs is water and you will be back down soon. That makes me happy that I can be someones workout role model

Sandy-I bet in a few more days you will notice more of a difference in your heel. Glad you are getting to spend some time helping out your parents. Enjoy the pool when you get to.

Went out to eat AGAIN today for lunch but I was good AGAIN. Usually when we go out to eat I splurge and get whatever, I am changing that and making healthy choices now. It feels great. Then we went and go a lily and planted it in my yard in remembrance of my dad. I posted a pic of it on FB. Got my walk in and then spent some time with my Chris and the pups. We just laid in bed and talked for like an hour, something we never do. I usually dont like laying down during the day. Got 30 minutes in of wii fit. I've done 10 of my 20 miles this week. Its supposed to get cold again pretty soon and might even snow on Saturday so gotta get these miles in. Gonna go take a nice relaxing shower and go to bed. Gotta take my niece and nephew out to get their mom a Mothers Day gift tomorrow.

Following in Vicky and Dances footsteps, Im gonna list my food for the day.
Batmeal, turkey sausage
S:fresh fruit salad
L:1/2 of a club sandwich and cottage cheese
D:Boca burger on slimwich bum, asparagus and a few tater tots

LOL @ the how the : & O made for oatmeal

Burgundy: You are doing so well with workouts and eating...totally impressed. The fact that you are making small, sustainable changes is amazing. Good for you! So sorry about your Dad and MIL, but it is important to celebrate their lives. My hubby doesn't talk about his dad much, but I know it upsets him that I never got to me him and that he never got to see Matt reach his milestones: graduating college, marriage, baby, etc. Life goes on, but they can still live on if you keep them in your heart.

Momof2: So sorry you are feeling sick - that is the worst, especially when you are trying to lose weight. Hope you feel better soon. It's rough when your only vacation time is used when your kids are sick, it was the same with me and my daughter. Hubby was a contractor so if he didn't work, he didn't get paid, so I had to take my vacation time to stay home with Madeline. It's rough, but I can't imagine my life without my baby.

Sandy: Hoping that you can get some time to rest your foot (most important). I wouldn't push yourself to work out a lot if it's still hurting. Think of how much you can workout after it's healed! Good luck with the home business.

Well, last night I went to the class Jeff was teaching and I was the only one there - so it was more like a personal training session again. So, I burned over 600 calories and had a tough workout. He's giving me harder workouts, so I can definitely feel the difference. Then, last night, I had a breakthrough. I am realizing that Jeff was right, my problem isn't in my back, it's in my knees. I did a lunge and had the wrong form, and my back started killing me. So...when I had the right form, I felt it more in my knees/legs, so I have to strengthen them instead of overcompensating with my back. So, now I know what to look for at least and keep strengthening my legs. It's hard to change something that you've been doing for 20 years. I guess my back is always overcompensating for my knees, so that's my new goal - working on my form.

Hope you are all doing well, I will check in later!

momof - hope you feel better soon! Having to work when you're sick is so tough.

burgundy - I'm so impressed at how you're being super disciplined even when you go out to eat! You are really changing your lifestyle - tracking miles, making great choices when eating in or out. Seems like life skills that will serve you well in the long run (for decades of skinnyness ) and I think we should all officially refer to it as atmeal now

mygrits - sounds like you are going to burn calories galore today - a dip in the pool sounds so nice! Glad to hear your foot is improving - continuing to do something (standing for 8hrs/day) that hurts your body seems like it wouldn't give you a chance to heal. Hopefully that will change now. It's been ages since I've been on a bike but I thought they made covers to go over your existing seat that added a bunch of padding - you might check that out.

maddiesmom - how was the class? hope you liked it!

Did really well on food yesterday and am happy to call it POP. I took a benadryl to fall asleep early so I wouldn't stay up late and get the munchies which is definitely not a long term plan to follow but here and there shouldn't be too bad. I went to zumba for the second time and enjoyed it - I wish they had a number of routines and cycled between them but instead they do the same one for a few months then change it. I like variety apparently but I'll definitely keep this up for a while as it gives other parts of me a workout that don't usually get much exercise. And of course, the whole humiliation factor of seeing yourself in a mirror. Why do I look so much worse in their mirror than in my full length one at home??? Mysteries... Went to the grocery store after and got a bunch of higher protein stuff as I've been having a hard time keeping up my protein percentage and I'd like to have a good balance between protein, fat and carbs. Left to my own devices, the balance gets really carb heavy. I got turkey bacon, light string cheese and a bunch of eggs to make deviled eggs and egg salad. I'm going to cook a bunch of chicken breasts in the slow cooker and shred them so that I'll have shredded chicken in the freezer to make other stuff with. Any other good suggestions for having healthy high-protein stuff on hand? I'm open to ideas

Have a great day, girls!

ETA - Maddiesmom - I missed your post. Good for you on the super tough class! And I agree - getting the right muscles strong around our knees seems to be one of the big secrets in life You know how bad I am about anything strength-training related but I do my knee exercises (simple leg lifts) every morning before I get out of bed and voila - no more knee pain when I run or hike, at least so far. And as you know, nothing feels as good as the absence of pain when you've gotten used to expecting it. I hope things continue to get better and better for your back!

Dance: Congrats on your POP. Glad you are enjoying your class, but it can get a little boring doing the same routine for a month - I'm surprised they don't change it up a little more. As for my knees, I need to work on my isometric exercises: wall sits, lunges, etc. Jeff said that I need to hold these for more than 2 minutes. If I'm only doing 1-2 minutes I'm not engaging my muscles enough. Of course it's as much mental as it is physical...it starts to hurt, so you have to really push yourself. I think if I blast my ipod while I'm doing it, it will help me hold out for a longer period of time.

POP is still strong - day #4. Last night after class I had a muscles milk to help with my protein intake and when I got home, I wasn't hungry. I stopped at Wendy's for my hubby and daughter, and didn't eat any of it on the way home and it smelled SOOOOOOO good. I ate 1/2 of a fry and it was way too salty, had 1/2 of a chicken nugget and didn't care for it either. So, my dinner last night (other than the muscle milk) was a fuji apple with some reduced fat peanut butter at 9:00.

Here's the food today:
B: Special K protein Shake
S: Special K protein bar
L: Salad with the fixings: artichoke hearts, hearts of palm, carrots, etc.
S: Almonds, fresh grapes/strawberries
D: Not sure yet, something light

Not going to the gym tonight, I'm pretty sore. Depending on how I feel I may try and do the lunges and wall squats. Tomorrow will be my day off from the gym, have to run to Wisconsin to sell the hubby's car, and then I have Jeff again at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday. Busy busy days.

Have a great afternoon!

maddiesmom - you are just a special K advertisement these days - I can just see you in one of those tv commercials! And great job on resisting fast food - very impressive!

Upped my mileage on my run today to around 4 miles and am going to work up to a double loop that is 6 miles long if my knee will continue to cooperate. Last summer I was doing around 5 for a while but I was heavier and my knee was weaker so we'll see - fingers crossed.

Okay, so the jennie o turkey bacon sucked - couldn't stand it so that didn't work out but I got Flatout Light Flatbreads that are awesome if you haven't tried them. 90cal for a giant wrap/flatbread/tortilla thing and 9g(!!!!!) of protein and tons of fiber. I made light quesadillas with smoked turkey and lowfat cheese and the flatbreads get nice and crispy. It says on the package that they're good to make pizzas with so I will definitely give that a try soon. Definitely the yummiest guilt-free new thing I've tried! Off to a much needed hair appt (last one was in Jan!) - will check in later...

Dance: I know, it's kinda scary how much Special K I have. I have to give Jeff my weekly menu and I'm sure he's going to say something about it. I also have the Special K protein water, but I don't have that every day. The other girls at work are starting to drink it too, so it's all over the office. I just like them because it fills you up and it's quick and easy. I don't have time in the morning to really prepare anything since I have to get Madeline ready for daycare.

Dinner tonight was some Green giant mixed veggies, a small baked potato, some roasted chicken with sauteed mushrooms. Not too many calories, but I'm stuffed, so I'll be good for the night.

I'm not doing any exercise tonight, I am so sore from the past 2 workouts. I'll do the lunges and wall squats tomorrow when I get home. Jeff said I need to hold the position for more than 2 minutes, which doesn't sound like a long time, but when you're holding these isometric positions, you really feel it. I gotta build up the mental endurance as much as the physical.

Have a great night ladies!

momof2-feel better soon. Sounds like you are busy busy, no time to rest.

Dance-I am hoping all the changes start showing on the scale soon. atmeal from now on, lol. Deviled eggs, yum. My hubby only likes them with miracle whip though, yuck! Im not a fan of turkey bacon, but I eat it sometimes. I've been eating turkey sausage lately.

Vicky-I impress you? You impress the heck right outta me, lol. You are amazing with workouts and eating. I mean 700 and 600 cals burned. You are gonna be in onederland soon and passing me right up. Walk sits are the hardest, good luck. Good job resisting the fast food. Chris went to KFC today for lunch and I didnt order a thing, waited to eat when we got home.

Todays food
Bmy walk of shame) 2 butterscotch cookies.
no snack, took nephews out to get Mothers day gift.
L:the other half of my club sandwich from yesterday
D: atmeal, turkey sausage, and fresh fruit(yes I was lazy today and didnt cook)

Kept myself busy today taking nephews to walmart(ruined my streak of not going in there, last time I was in Walmart was in March) came home, waited for their mom to get here. Then cleaned and rearranged living room after they left, so I kept myself busy so no time for snacks today. Not even sure I ate enough calories today, but I wasnt really hungry today

Walked 6 miles tonight, 4 more to get to 20. Gonna do those 4 tomorrow and take Saturday as a rest day. Gonna have the boys tomorrow night and part of Sat. Then their mom is having a birthday party for herself Sat night so I will probably be there all day and night(at least it wont all be "work", gotta find her a gift. Me and the boys grandma are trying to think of healthy foods we can make to take to the party. I have hummus and pita chips, there will be a veggie tray too, so I can make good choices there.

Have a good night!!!

Morning, girls! I did well on food yesterday although after the turkey bacon fiasco, it was less protein oriented then I had hoped. Thanks, Maddiesmom, for getting me to shoot for POP this week - the extra pounds above ticker are slowly coming back off. Can't wait to be back to 165! And I'm having fun with the idea of increasing my mileage again - I will probably take a rest day today and go furniture shopping after work. If it's still light out when I get home, I may do a little gardening (throwing dirt, such fun, I'm trying to even out a sunken spot) for the upper body workout. Saturday, I'll try to get in an early run (maybe 4.5 mi?) then I have a walk that afternoon with a friend so that should be a great calorie burning day. For mother's day my parents are out of town so I'm having my sisters kids over in the morning to help me make lunch for their mom and I'll walk to meet them at the light rail so that will be a 3 mile walk for me. Not sure if I'll do any other exercise that day.

What's everyone else up to this weekend? Special mothers' day plans?

I talked to my bf last night and it sounds like he's gradually coming out of his mood but not sure if I'll have any company this weekend. I'm having fun really re-committing to the diet and exercise stuff so maybe it's better if I have the time to focus without any distractions. I'm curious when you guys find to be the easiest times to stick to diet and exercise plans - when you're super busy and have no time to think about snacking? when you're traveling on your own?(I know mygrits thought that was the easiest)

Planned food for the day:
B: 2 eggs
S: strawberries
L: subway tuna, apple slices
D: chicken, veggies

ETA: Holy cow, burgundy - six miles!! You rock! Would you have been able to do that at this time last year?

Down to 191 this morning!!!!! 180s here I come!

Boys mom texted this morning, their grandma wants them tonight so I dont have to keep them. Kinda wanting to keep them more to save for our trip to AL. Oh well, she will need me again, I know that for sure.

Dance-I know for sure last year I wouldnt be able to do 6 miles. I will have to look back in my notebook to see what weight I was this time last year. I find it easiest to focus on diet and exercise is when I keep myself busy like yesterday. No snacks and the scale was down this morning. Gonna try that again today.

Gotta get 4 miles in today and keep myself busy today. Have a great day ladies.

woohoo for 191!!! You are doing great!!

mygrits - saw an interesting post in another thread about how wearing sketcher shape-ups (or other brands' versions of the same funny shaped shoes) helped a ton with plantar fascitis and heel pain. Wanted to mention it in case you hadn't tried them. Apparently Kmart and Walmart as well as costco have some version of them for sale.
