January Weight Loss Challenge
 
HAPPY 2010! Let's start the new year right by making time for ourselves and our health!

Hope to see everyone from our previous months and also any newcomers who may be joining us. All are welcome :).

Here's how it works: Just state your goal, whether it be a loss in pounds, inches, size, or even an intangible feeling! You need not state your weight if you feel uncomfortable, just your goal, even if that goal is to maintain or whatever the case may be. Though the thread is titled "weight loss" please bear in mind that the overall goal is toward a healthier us and so your goal may not revolve around weight loss, it may be maintenance, eating healthier, and/or kicking a soda habit...whatever the case may be.

Note: We try to keep a members list with our goals and if/when those goals are met, we put red print and goal met next to our goals. Please don't feel bad if/when you may not reach a specific number, goal, etc. Always remember that making positive changes along the way (the journey) are wonderful accomplishments in and of themselves.

Monthly weight loss challenge FAQ's

Do we weigh in on a certain day and how frequently? No, we don't have a specific WI day and WI on the day we choose. When and how frequently we weigh in is a personal matter and specific to each of our own indivual needs.

Do we need to post personals? Absolutely not. Sometimes we do and sometimes we don't . We are a large group and it is difficult to post personals sometimes. The time just does not exist sometimes. If you don't have time for personals it's okay.....post anyway.

Is everyone on a specific plan? We all have various plans. Some of us are on WW, South Beach, our own plans, etc. Though we do believe in and follow the guideline of not going below 1,200 cals a day and along these lines also strive to follow the site guidelines.

What day do we count our loss, the last day of the month or the first of the following month? Either way. Most people report their loss the last day of the month and if they have another loss that following morning (on the first) they either add it to the current months total loss or roll it over to the new month. Think of it as a bonus day.

I am in! My goal for the month of January is to lose 15 lbs which would bring me to a weight loss of 10% of my starting body weight. Here we go!!!:carrot: I am excited!!!

I am so bad at making goals and I just started my diet again so I will start small. My goal is to just make it into the 150's range of weight. At least to finally hit 159 again would make me happy, but more would be better. I am 165 currently.

I like this thread. My goal is to reach 275. Currently I'm at 280.4 and yo yo'ing between 280.4 and 279.6. I want to average 5 pounds per month in the new year, so I'm going to round January down to 275. I usually weigh in on Sundays.

My goal for January is two fold.
1. Lose 8 lbs - from 173 to 165
2. Close, if not into, a size 10, comfortably

Hi Im in~ by the end of Jan I want to 159, want to exercise 6 times a week 3 cardio 3 yoga or strength training. More water less diet soda.

Hey Everyone!

I've been seriously MIA in December but I did manage to lose 5 lbs so that's fine by me. I'm going to go for 7 lbs instead of my normal 8 as I think my weight loss is slowing down.... soooo let's see that would put me at 177 and only 2 lbs from goal... Holy Cow!

:newyear: My goal for the month of January is to lose 5 pounds. 1.25# a week for me is doable. (More would be a BIG bonus since we are going on vacation from January 23-30th. A cruise, no less. . .)

Ok. so I know that this has been my goal for 2 challenges but this is really gonna be it.

228 by the 31st of january. That would put me at 50 pounds lost. With a body fat % below 40. A tough chore, but attainable.

Now my starting number that is a question. TOM is here. He is showing no mercy this month. Almost like he is punishing me or something. Any who....... 228 is it. I am done saying I will do it. I need to just do it.

Yeah, well the other challenge with the guys is the first one to lose 20lbs wins. And going up against guys is hard enough, all they have to do is sneeze and they lose five pounds. So I figure its very doable to do 10 pounds this month, especially after the few months I've had and my calories being so high, getting back on track, should be quite the boost to the metabolism and hopefully it will work with me this time around. Hoorah!

Like several of you on this list, I really WANT to lose weight but how many times have I tried and gone off track? Too many to count. I made too close of a friend of Haagen Dazs ice cream this fall (dulce de leche is SO good when you're stressed out!), so I've hit my all time max again and am determined to get it off!! So my January goal is to eat fruits, veggies, beans and whole grains every single day so I lose weight. No idea how much I can lose, but I'm aiming for superb nutrition and a low glycemic diet because in the past weight has simply fallen off if I do that. Right, after a fairly disasterous 2009 I'm giving it a go again. :D

I will also go for a goal of 10lbs so that I hope to weigh 148.8lbs at the end of the month.

New to the thread!

My goal is going to be 15lbs! I need to really get a good kick start to this weight loss to motivate me, so 15lbs is about 2lbs a week... still healthy and doable, but I'm getting ready to kick my own a** this month with exercise!

I hear ya ladies, it's time to get motivated and commit ourselves to getting our butts, firmly back on the wagon. Make no mistake, some days won't be easy, but we will persevere. It's time to take control of our choices. So lets make January one for the record books.

Ok. So TOM has put the scale at 243.6. What a jerk. Doesn't have anything to do with the crappy food that I have been putting in my mouth either.

So, Here is day 1. Worked out good. did a lot of strength training with the physical therapist. Now to do alot of cleaning in the house. That should help.

Hey, another Newby here, but ready for a little jump start to start my year right. I've been working hard at putting a plan in place, for both exercise and eating, so I'm going to set a pretty high goal for the month: 14 lbs That's exactly the weight I put on over the holidays, so I'm determined to take it off just as quickly

So I hit 275 near the end of the month, but sadly by today I am back to 278. So I guess by the end of January I want to be to at least 271. 7 pounds isn't the hardest, but being motivated when I'm not in school just isn't happening.

Wow, all this motivation! I am very excited for this month!

I think I'm going to make my goal to loose 10 pounds this month, though more would definitely make me happier. I'm a little behind on my valentine's day challenge and I will make it up this month!

Well ladies I'm off for a bit of a vacation and will be back on the 8th and I just wanted to wish everyone a very determined start to the month, we are all worth the time it takes to get this right.

Welcome to all the new faces, please pop back in as much as you can it will help us to get to know you and support each other the best we can.

And oldies but goodies, you guys are my salvation some days and the number two reason why I am sitting where I am, in the size of jeans I am (did I mention they are a 4!! lol) And the number one reason is a whole lot of hard work ;)

Ok ladies am back and ready to go. We start back to they gym next week and next Saturday the nutritionist will be here can't wait. I am hoping to finally be able to meet a goal I set. I am so scared about setting a goal since I have started I have only met goal one time... It has been a crazy roller-coaster for me but I am haning in there with all the support you all give me I know I can do this. Thanks for hanging in there with me.... Okay ladies...Love seeing people, new and old here! This January will be the first step in a long series of steps to success for many of you and HOORAY for taking the step!!! Some of us are well into the "journey" and still learning...HOORAY for NOT giving up!!!!!!

I will post the list of everyone's goals and such this weekend. I'm guessing there are still some who will want to sign up in the next few days...though anyone can sign up at any point during the month, too! You'll be added as you join throughout the month. My family and I will be gone for a day here to ring in the New Year at my parents' house. After that I'm back on my regular food and exercise plan to see how much it'll take to get to my body fat goal. I hope it's doable in a month. Once my scale tells me I've reached it, I hope to go get tested (by immersion or bodpod) to confirm my percentage. Enough from me tonight. Time to sleep!

@Tummy ~ I'm with ya. If not for you gals and these threads, I wouldn't be sitting here almost at goal. You girls motivated me and held me accountable and for that, I'm deeply in your debt. Yeah, I was the one that lost the weight and exercised my tail off, but I couldn't have kept it up as long as I did without you ladies pushing me every step of the way.
