Hello everyone!!
Larry- I live in SC on the coast and have to add potting soil and cow manure to our above ground little garden. This is my first attempt and started from seeds in a little planter thing a jig from Big Lots. Radishes, spring onions and tommy toe tomatoes. My daddy always had a big garden and I'm hoping I inherited some of his green thumb. Lol! Skelley - the MRC drinks I have seem to be 2 carbs so that's still good for this plan :). I love mixing them in my mini blender for a shot of protein! The grapefruit and kiwi melon are my favorite. I love the Atkins Dark Chocolate Royale for 2 carbs. I downloaded a Atkins buy one and get one free coupon and got the choc covered almonds and choc caramel squares. That sugar free choc though acts like a mild laxative which actually isn't a bad thing (haha TMI!!!). I admit it- I'm a chocoholic!! Tripswitch - great idea to be a member of WW even if it's for calorie control and ESP use them for weigh in. I'm pretty much sticking to the Atkins plan but I'll lose, then the weekend gets here, I gain a couple then Monday- start losing again. We are co-owners of a restaurant and entertain a lot - lots of festivals and events. Atkins is perfect but I need accountability and someone to weigh me. There's a local weight loss center I'll prob join next week so I'll be able to weighin weekly at least for a couple months. So today... B. Atkins pbutter crisp bar. 2 net carbs L: hamburger concoction (lean beef woked w shredded green cabbage, mushrooms, cubed green pepper- creole seasoning) served over raw shredded cabbage.( My DH is a chef and won't eat this but I love it!) S. Choc caramel square. 2 net carbs S. Atkins Dark choc Royale shake. 2 net crb D. Swordfish and spinach salad w walnuts and ginger rice wine vinegarette Will add up carbs and edit to update post :) Everyone please keep sharing! :). We can do this 14.5 carbs. 1459 cal 7000 steps |

Weekends use to be my downfall and I would gain but since I've started Atkins I haven't gained at all no cravings so I control what I eat |
Skelley I'm so excited!! I thought the Atkins choc. caramels were 1 per serving but it's 3 per serving! :)so 47 cal instead of 140 if I eat one :)
I'm not really having cravings - and not hungry w Atkins just too many temptations. My DH has almond joys, homemade pies, chocolate hi hos, etc and drives me crazy. I wish I never told him I was doing Atkins because then I have to hear, oh, too bad you can't eat this. He's definitely a food pusher. Makes me more determined to succeed ! For example he has homemade key lime pie on the counter right now. I want him to eat it and it will then be gone but he will prob leave it there for awhile. Last time he bought home a pecan pie. After3 days told him I was trashing it if it wasn't gone the next day. Just frustrates me to no end!!!! Grrrrrrrrr |

It's great to see everyone doing so well here... I'm still trying to find my "happy place" with carbs... Sometimes I just want to go right back to Level 1 of Atkins '72 and start all over, but I just don't know if that makes sense... But boy, oh boy... did the pounds drop off fast doing that... And even Dr. Atkins himself said you should lose the last few pounds very slowly... I'm really trying to be patient, but it really is starting to drive me a little crazy... :dizzy:
But here is the good news... I have a Fitbit and Fitbit Aria scale, so it keeps track of all my weights and you can see graphs of how you're doing week to week and month to month and so on... So I was down a total of 10.1 lbs in March and 3.4 lbs in April... :) I really need to get my head around the fact that losing these last few pounds isn't going to be easy and it's probably going to take a lot longer than I would like... I mean if April is any indication I won't reach goal until September or even October!!! So I'm really trying to get it together to re-group mentally for this final push! Anyway on a more positive note I really rocked my Fitbit yesterday with 17,286 steps!!! :carrot::carrot::carrot: |
I am thru the induction phase. I have 20 pounds to lose , as that is what I put on when I was on MRC maintenance, so if I take it off slowly that is ok.. As long as it comes off.. I lost 2 pounds on Induction, but I had one bad day, so added a day on to it.
Breakfast... 2 eggs scrambled with tomato and cheese, topped with 1 tsp salsa Snack.. 1 hard boiled egg Lunch.. Tuna in a large salad bowl , cukes, tomato, Light Italian dressing, 3 carbs in dressing. Snack.. Caprese Salad.. Mozzarella cheese, 5 cherry tomatoes, drizzled with olive oil, fresh basil from garden Dinner 6 oz. baked halibut, lemon on top, steamed summer squash and zuccini Snack.. 1/4 cup almonds |

ATKINS dark Choc royale Shake D. 3 cups Spinach salad w NY Strip steak, walnuts, ginger rice wine Vinegarette 3 ATKINS choc caramel squares 2 net carbs, 140 cal Meetings all day and Appts ...usually I don't eat the pizza - taking antibiotics for sinus infection so felt like I needed to eat something. I picked at one small slice for an hour and a half! So my DH did eat the pie and I will have to brag on him bringing me grilled swordfish, salad and NY Strip :) Congrats on everyone's losses! 19.6 carbs. Calories. 1,146 |

5/2/2015 Induction Day 12
I did not get to post this yesterday, I went to bed early tired. I spent a wonderful sunny day riding my motorcycle in a charity ride to supply service dogs for wounded veterans. About 300 bikers and we rode Florida's "Tail of the Gecko" 76 miles and 84 turns. The ride ended at the Floral City VFW for food, drinks and live music. I got a bottle of water and two hamburger pattys without the buns with a slice of tomato and chopped raw onion for lunch

I have decided to go to OWL and see how the week goes... I stayed on Induction for over two weeks, and lost very little, so will try the next step. When I came back to Atkins I had 20 pounds to lose that I gained on maintenance and know it will be slow..
Wishing everyone a great loss week. |
rpm3060: I too have decided to move to OWL, this will be my first week, I'm increasing my calories to 1500, net carbs 25. We will see how it goes.
I was on induction or 4 wks and lost 7 lbs. I only have 13 to go so I know it will slow down but that's okay. Keep posting and let me know how you do moving to OWL. |
Just joined today. Trying weight watchers which worked well in the past. Event to attend in 4 weeks, must stay motivated. Starting weight 154
|
Skelley..
This is my first day of OWL, carbs at 25 also. I tried an Atkins Carmel Chocolate Nut Roll just for the heck of it.. It curbed my sweet craving as soon as I ate it.. Plus it was real good. I put the box in freezer, so it would be more difficult to have more than one, but one did the trick for sure |
Induction Day 13
A good day today. I have been busy Grocery Shopping as I am cooking a BBQ Chicken dinner tomorrow for my Shriner's club. Serving Potato Salad and Coleslaw as sides. I will partake of the chicken but I will leave the sides alone. The advantage of being the cook is I know the ingredients of the chicken marinade. It is Atkins friendly.:D

For my sweet chocolate craving I have the peanut cluster bars and the chocolate caramel square's yummy. Sunday was my first 25 nc and being on OWL, I'm loving it so far, just hope my scales do to this Saturday. |
I am on Owl and enjoying it so far.. Carbs yesterday were 24. I get weighed in on Monday. I still have maintenance left on MRC and will get weighed in there till it runs out.. I need to be accountable for sure.

Hey guys! Looks like everyone is doing well. Been slammed at work, 3 events so getting home after 730 every night - will be happy to be on vacation next week at the beach!
I joined a weight mgmt center Monday because I want and need someone to weigh me each week and hold me accountable. My friends love this center and great results. They did a EKG, labs, weighed me and gave me a chart showing my fat ratio which is high. I told her I'm very buoyant and float very well in the river. Lol- sad but true!! So I'm keeping a journal and meeting w them next Monday for an eating plan. I told her I do better w low carbs, high protein for energy and she agreed that's the key to success. I'm still doing Atkins but am chosing lower fat stuff (turkey bacon instead of real bacon) , smaller portions .... I'm not losing like I thought I would be. Curious on what she'll recommend.. BTW - what is OWL? :) |
Induction Day 15

I am doing great on induction so I decided to continue past the 14 day induction period. I did heavy yard work (tree limb pick up) and mowing for three hours today until it started raining. My chicken BBQ yesterday went great. The chicken was cooked to perfection and I had so many compliments on the flavor thanks to my secret marinade recipe. :D:D:D TOTAL: 13g Carbs, 89g Fat, 112g Protein, 1,378 Calories Breakfast Swaggerty - Premium Sausage Patties, 2 patty (1.2 oz) Great Value - Cheese, Sharp Cheddar, Finely Shredded, 1/6 Cup Generic - Egg - Fried - Extra Large, 3 Egg Generic - Onion Yellow Sweet 1 Med Slice, 0.5 slice Peppers - Jalapeno, raw, 1 pepper Butter - Unsalted, 1 tbsp(s) Lunch Grilled Chuck Steak Boneless - Grilled Chuck Steak Boneless, 10 oz. That weight mgmt center sounds interesting... I know for me personally I do better when I feel like have to be accountable once a week or how ever often it is... I too decided that for me lower fat stuff made more sense, so that's what I'm doing and it's working for me... I hope you let us know how it goes... |

Is the weight management center sponsored by a hospital? I pulled it up online and that is what I found.. I need to find another place to weigh in , as MRC maintenance ends next week and I do not want to pay any more money there just to get weighed in... If there is any place that one likes please let me know. I am in Florida.
Today my carbs were 25. Breakfast.. Egg beater omelet with tomatoes, soy cheese , scallion greens Snack.. Caprese salad with low fat mozarella cheese, tomato , olive oil, basil and splash of balsamic Lunch.. Grilled boneless skinless chicken breast with herbs, 6 ounces, kale with mushrooms and one slice of turkey bacon Snack.. Atkins bar Supper.. Barbecued Turkey Sausage, 3 pieces large serving of salad, lettuce, cukes, tomatoes, few slices of turkey pepperoni, olive oil and vinegar dressing with herbs. |

If you like the counselors at MRC, that would be cheaper. Maint is $129 a year w MRC. The MRC in my small town uses reg scales, don't measure fat ratio, they don't measure me, they are untrained and confusing. The larger center I liked is an hour away. |

Induction Day 17
Great day today got in a lot of Yard work and stayed on plan. I am going to reward myself tommorrow by riding my Honda Shadow. I will be joining a group motorcycle ride with a lot of friends. :D:D:D

I had mentioned that Atkins bars that I took as a snack curbed my cravings as soon as I ate the bar... However, I notice every time I eat one, I gain 1 to 1/2 pounds next morning.. So unfortunately will have to omit them for now and eat real food for snacks..

Larry, enjoy your ride today! (I'm jealous!)
Dee, that's too bad! I hope you find a good replacement that takes the cravings away. I found this recipe the other day and we all liked it. (My oldest son had the leftovers for breakfast two days in a row, lol!) 3-4 c cooked, cubed chicken 1 lb pork sausage 1 stalk celery, finely chopped 1 T minced onion 1 carton of sliced mushrooms 4 oz cream cheese, softened ½ c mayo 16oz frozen cauliflower, cooked, drained and roughly chopped 8 oz cheddar cheese, shredded Salt and pepper to taste Paprika to sprinkle on top (optional) Preheat oven to 350.* Brown sausage with celery, onion and mushrooms. Stir the softened cream cheese and mayo into the sausage mixture until well blended. Add in cauliflower and mix well. Spread in greased 9x13 pan. Sprinkle with paprika if desired. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until bubbly and top is lightly browned. |
Beautiful weekend!
Helping my DH build a marsh room (kind of like a Florida room but we don't live in FL!) lol Larry - hope u had a great time on your bike ride! Still not understanding the net carbs vs carbs so will be counting real carbs on the MVP. For example - the Atkins shakes are 10 real carbs and 2 net carbs. I know it's carbs-fiber but seems to me that's a false read. I do better w the sugar free protein bars w less carbs that I can order online if I really need a treat. Or sugar free fat free jello blended w cool whip. This am had turkey bacon and an Almased protein shake (out of eggs!!! Yikes - will have to go grocery shopping) Yesterday, 2 fried eggs in Olive oil Turkey bacon S. Half Atkins protein bar L. Lettuce and cabbage salad w turkey bacon S. Celery w cream cheese D. Sushi and won ton soup, shrimp (at a Japanese buffet). I should have took off the rice. For the soup- one wonton and rest broth. I know - not on plan. I rode exercise bike for 45 min and construction helper all day so hopefully the activity counteracted the carbs lots of activity planned today! Have a great Sunday! |
Induction
After re-reading the 2002 Atkins book I have decided to stop counting calories and only count Carbs, Fats, and Protein. Today is the closest I have came to my daily goals. :D:D I have not gone over since starting Atkins but I am usually too far under especially in the fats which along with low carbs and medium protein are the key to this diet.
Total: 11 Carbs, 135 Fat, 110 Protein :carrot: Goal: 23 Carbs, 140 Fat, 113 Protein |
The scale was kind to me today with a 3 pound loss!! :D:carrot::D:goodscale:

I have b een using the Atkins site to log my meals and snacks.. Sure is not easy to log in things. They say it will be new and improved next month.
Bigdog, I found something out about counting net carbs.. Re: Atkins Caramel Chocolate Nut Roll. This is how they calculate it.. Total carbs = 19 g minus fiber of 6 grams minus sugar alcohols of 10 grams = net carbs of 3 grams. Congrats on your weight loss Larry.. |

Monday was pretty good day I have been having terrific Carb control. :D:D
Monday Total: 5g Carbs, 106g Fat, 139g Protein My Goal was: 18g Carbs, 93g Fat, 123g Protein After re-reading the 2002 Atkins book I realize I am eating too much Protein which the body can convert to glucose and take me out of ketosis. So my new goals starting today are: 18g Carbs, 109g Fat and 88g Protein. This is just a little fine tuning to keep me in ketosis.. I have been on induction for 21 days now and below is my daily carb counts. Theses are gross carbs not net carbs. In other words I did not subtract fiber grams from these counts. 4/21 12g Carbs 4/22 19g Carbs 4/23 15g Carbs 4/24 8g Carbs 4/25 7g Carbs 4/26 14g Carbs 4/27 15g Carbs 4/28 16g Carbs 4/29 13g Carbs 4/30 21g Carbs 5/1 8g Carbs 5/2 12g Carbs 5/3 16g Carbs 5/4 7g Carbs 5/5 19g Carbs 5/6 13g Carbs 5/7 14g Carbs 5/8 9g Carbs 5/9 11g Carbs 5/10 11g Carbs 5/11 5g Carbs |
