Ooh, that was me today, too! You can do this!!! :)

I've done that too with asparagus and it is yummy! :)

Oh, and I saw you used a raspberry vinaigrette that you said had 6g of carbs... the other day I decided to try the Maple Grove brand "sugar free" raspberry vinaigrette (I picked it up at Walmart)... It's sweetened with Splenda, which I'm not a fan of, but it only has 1 carb per 2tbsp serving... and only 5 calories... Anyway, I tried adding a tsp or two of really good EVOO to it and put that on my salad and it was OK... So only 1g of carbs and some healthy fat that is pretty tasty as far as I'm concerned for my salad... So I think it might be my new solution in that situation... And it helps keep calories down too as well as carbs...

So today was the day that I finally did it.... I went RUNNING! :carrot:

And to be honest I can't believe how good I felt... Probably helped that I'm about 30lbs lighter than the last time I did it... But I was really surprised... I guess I'm not in as bad shape as I thought I was... So that is a very good thing!

Came home and had a very nice lunch... Big salad and some tunafish... But the only problem with running for me is that I'm usually ravenous later and feel "entitled" to eat whatever I want because I went for a "run" that day.... Which might work for maintenance but not for weight loss...

So I'm probably going to have to deal with some extra "cravings" tonight... Oh, well... C'est la vie! :dizzy:

Hello...

I had a Caprese salad today for a snack and that is so good and filling.. I started using the Atkins Community to log in my food and noticed that Under Atkins food, there is a recipe that one can put into their favorite.. I purchased the light fresh mozzarella cheese, vs. the full fat.. Not much difference really, but enjoyed it. I grow my own basil, so used that from the garden..

I went back and read some previous messages and saw that there were some MRC people here.. Me, too.. I could not stay on maintenance with them, it just did not work, so tried Atkins a long time ago and am back again. I will report my weight at end of week.

I am trying to use real food for snacks vs. Atkins, but we shall see, that may change. I am still in induction until mid next week..

Dee

Will weigh in Saturday and post hopefully a loss! Goodluck to everyone

I'm learning how to cook so if I can do it- anyone can. Lol! My DH is an Exec Chef- I now have a wok, griddler deluxe and crock pot :)
I had bought the Marie's Raspberry Vin. Before I started Atkins and am too cheap to throw out- crazy I know! 2TB is 50 cal, Fat 3G, carb 7G!!! Dang!!!!!! I'll throw out or add EVOO and vinegar and dilute it!! My MRC buddy suggested oil, vinegar and puréed raspberries w no sugar- I'll have to try that.
I did throw out my caramel vanilla creamer. Maple Grove brands is pretty good- much better than Walden Farms dressings.
Woo Hoo on the running high!!

bigdog 04-21-2015 11:15 PM

24.9 carbs and 1587 calories

B. 2 boiled eggs, Atkins strawberry banana shake, coffee w whipping cream
S. Celery w pepper jack cheese
L. Shredded cabbage salad w flank steak, sunflower seeds, grated Parmesan cheese, raspb dressing
S. 2 slices bacon, Atkins choc pnut bar
D. Same as lunch, coffee w whipping cream

Had the munchies all day and was hungry. Almost grabbed my DH's chips and chocolate cupcakes-,I then looked at the carbs on the cupcakes - 35G and was like - they are not that good or worth it!
Crazy day at work so glad I had the celery to crunch on when I really wanted Cheetos :(
If I show a gain in the am- the raspb vinegarette will b trashed!!

Larry H 04-21-2015 11:46 PM

I mentioned yesterday I tried the Caprese Salad.. Today I gained one pound. That is the only item added to my induction that I have not been eating, mozzarella cheese, so will hold off on that for not...

How many are on induction? Ones that are not, did you stay on the 14 days or longer?

Thanks
Dee

rpm3060 04-22-2015 02:42 PM

Bigdog

You mentioned you borrowed a Dr. Atkins Recipe Book from Library. May I ask the exact title of it if you still have it? I want to borrow from library.

Thanks
Dee

I did Atkins '72 and kept carbs well below 20g total (not net) each day... I did that for a month... Lost 14lbs, but 4 or that came right back (water weight) which is perfectly normal...

It's important to realize that day to day fluctuations of sometimes up to 3 or 4lbs are completely normal... If you weigh everyday it helps to average out the last 3 days to get a better picture of what's really going on...

Michaloula 04-23-2015 12:43 AM

My post disappeared!

Larry, welcome back! :)

Dee, I am (probably loosely) following DANDR and adding more foods in after induction by still trying to keep my carbs around 20/day. Ita with TripSwitch that it could just be a normal flux.

Today was *much* better! :)

I had a mock danish again for breakfast, taco salad for lunch and Denny's prime rib philly steak sandwich (w/o bread) and broccoli for dinner. My morale is much better today and I looked up a bunch of low carb recipes on Pinterest and Linda's Low Carb Recipes website. :)

bigdog 04-23-2015 01:51 AM

28.1 carbs and 1811 calories

B. 2 eggs. 2 slices bacon. Coffee w cream
S. Atkins peanut butter bar
L. Shredded cabbage. Flank steak. Sunflower seeds. Rasp vineg.
S. Sun Chips. (At an event and hungry!). I did skip the pizza at work lunch while everyone else was gorging on it!! Almonds
D. Same as lunch plus Atkins Strawberry banana shake and coffee w cream

Lots of water! My clothes are looser, my stomach is flatter- scared to weigh in though- lately have been hungrier.
We have been busy at work so have been stepping up the activity

Good luck everyone!

Good Morning Everyone!!!

And welcome to all the new people here, it's great to see it getting so active... And everyone sounds like they are doing well, which is great to see and for me very encouraging... I really love it!

So a little update.... I may have shared this here already, but basically I've lost just about 50lbs so far since I decided last May to really start working at losing weight AGAIN!!!... Anyway, I started with just calorie counting and MFP and lost close to 20lbs... And then last Oct. I started a prediabetes prevention program at a local hospital near me which met once a week, where we had to "weigh-in" and follow a low fat diet (my plan allowed 42g of fat a day? Not sure where they came up with that number?) and we had to do at least 150 minutes of exercise a week. I lost just about another 20lbs doing that for the 4 months of that program (we're still meeting once a month for another 4 months for follow up and "weigh-in" to help us maintain our "lifestyle" change...lol )... I then decided go back to Atkins to get things moving again and that was good for another 10lbs which came off very quickly and was VERY motivating... BUT now that I'm within striking distance on my GOAL weight (I can't believe it, this is really is going to happen!) I've decided to change things up a little bit... I actually decided to join WW with a friend (we just go for the "weigh-in" we don't stay for the meeting, we count "points" and we still can do low carb if we want) AND I'm going to take a look again at NANY to see if I can make some of that work for me, since I'm planning on eating somewhere in the neighborhood of 100g of carbs and possibly more once I get my running back in gear and start training seriously for my next marathon, which I hope is by next fall...

So that's where I'm at today... Not exactly strict "Atkins" but let's just say I'm very Atkins "friendly"... :D

TripSwitch,
Goodluck with WW, I tried that also and loved counting points but still couldn't control my hunger while doing it. Let us know how it goes.

Wow- thank you for update. I'm a former WW Lifetime member- joined 2 yrs ago after I lost 35 lbs with MRC 3 years ago because they closed the local MRC office. I live in a small town so they only have PM meetings after 6 twice a week - I hate late weigh ins. Gained - I quit. I wasn't into it and I Then rejoined MRC in Jan - (new office opened) lost 13 lbs and quit- don't care for the sales tactics of the counselors- very limited food choices and they push their products and pills.
Now am trying Atkins - love it so far- have a lot to learn and recipes to try. Do know if I slip up and eat 2 many carbs- wow- weight will come right back on quickly.
We have a weight loss clinic a lot of my friends go to when they gain I may join so I can have someone weigh me. Still thinking about it. $120 a month includes appetite suppressants and B-12 shots and counseling where they weigh you and go over your journal. They also open at 730 in the am so could
Weigh in before work. To be honest- I've never lost weight unless someone is weighing me each week (keeps me honest). w my DH being a Chef and w my fun social friends - it's hard!
I know that low carb is the way to go and I feel so much better and stronger. Anyone do B12 shots or app suppressants?

skelley331 04-23-2015 09:35 PM

Bigdog,

I tried the B12 shots didn't work, tried all the supplements and they work at first but my body got immune. I don't take anything now doing atkins and I'm loving it. I weigh myself everyday and that keeps me in check. This morning I was down another 1lb so by Saturday I hope to be down more but if I lose 1 lb a week I would be happy.

Had a good day today again:
1,285 calories
walked 3,906 steps
NC: 33

Michaloula 04-23-2015 09:39 PM

Today was pretty good, food wise.

Breakfast: mock danish
Lunch: "Cheese-its," deviled eggs (2), 1/2 c coleslaw
Dinner: Flat-out bread pizza w/mushrooms, pepperoni and olives

We'll see how I do in the next few days after the flat-out bread. It's 7 net carbs.

I hit right at 20 carbs today. Shopping tomorrow and will work on getting more veggies in.

TripSwitch 04-23-2015 10:01 PM

Thanks skelley and big dog... I am looking forward to "weighing-in" once a week and I can still eat lower carb... But even with really watching my carbs I still have to be pretty strict and keep my calories in check or I don't lose, so WW is good for that...but I'm still going to keep using MFP and of course I'm pretty addicted to my Fitbit as well... At this point after losing 50lbs and with 15lbs still left to lose, even if I kept carbs to 50g a day or under to stay in ketosis I still need a pretty big calorie deficit to keep losing.... It's not the ketosis anyway that is causing the weight loss it's the calorie deficit... the ketosis just helps with diet compliance...You can be in ketosis and still gain weight if you're eating too much... We'll see if this 15lbs refuse to budge, I'll seriously consider spending the money on IP... Those people lose weight fast... But that's because not only is it ketogenic (helps you to stick to the plan by reducing hunger) it's also very low calorie (850 to 1000 calories a day) so it creates a really big calorie deficit for rapid weight loss...

I was hesitant about joining because I can't take any type of diet pills and have a low tolerance to meds. My friend just told me they have her taking Phentramine - same stuff MRC was pushing. I def can't take that. They might have other plans they offer without the drugs? Anyway- Im trying to stay motivated and hope I can succeed on my own without weighing in anywhere :). It's silly really and I should be able to do this with reading more re: the plan, tracking and checking in with you guys daily. This forum is incredibly helpful!
I agree Skelley- I'm happy with 1-2 lbs loss a week . I did notice my friend hasnt changed her eating habits much- she's just taking the pills - most of them have gained after quitting the program.
I want to get to goal weight and maintain:dizzy:

you are exactly right! MRC was low carb and around 1000 calories and that was the first time in a long time that I lost 35 lbs and gained muscle. I liked the protein shakes too- was like dessert :). When I joined this year, they changed the plan and added more carbs and fruit- was not as successful.
With Atkins- I need to find lower carb products but also lower calorie because for a couple days this week been going Hog Wild!! Thanks for the reality check :)
Lower carb, higher protein works for me because I don't get hungry.

Hi Larry,
What are you using to track? I'm using the Atkins Carb Counter but don't know how to copy to this forum...

bigdog 04-23-2015 11:50 PM

Tracking app

What is everyone using to track to calculate net carbs? I'm using Atkins carb counter but it's limited. I love MFP but don't know what to set my goals at? I'm aiming for 20 net carbs daily. Using 1200 for calories.
Thanks!

bigdog 04-24-2015 12:21 AM

16.6 carbs. 1338 calories for today and I'm floating from a lot of H20!

Switched from the raspb dressing to Kraft Ranch. 7 g carbs vs 1.5 carbs :)

Most of the carbs from veggies and strawberries.
Weigh in tomorrow

Bigdog:
I use myfitnesspal to calculate my calories and net carbs, I just subtract the fiber from my carbs to see my net carbs, I'm 5'7 and I have my macros set at 5% carbs, 60% fat, 35% protein and it seems to be working for me. Sometimes I do go a little over the carbs but I always stay under 30-35 net carbs. On myfitnesspal if you go to nutrition it shows the pie chart but up in the top right corner also is the little pie chart and then shows like 4 lines, if you click on the lines it brings up the list of all your nutrient details. that's where I can subtract my fiber from my carbs and I love the pie chart because it shows me my macros %.

Tripswitch;
I'm down to 15 lbs to lose and it always seems like this is where things slow down, but as long as I'm losing even if it's 1/2 lb a week i'll take any loss. I have realized if I go over 1400 calories I seem to gain. Not sure where atkins says you should be eating 1500-1800 calories a day for women, maybe if I were younger but I'm 59 yrs young still active but don't need that many calories, if I ate that much I would never lose. :carrot:
Look forward to your progress with WW

It's silly really and I should be able to do this with reading more re: the plan, tracking and checking in with you guys daily. This forum is incredibly helpful!
I agree Skelley- I'm happy with 1-2 lbs loss a week . I did notice my friend hasnt changed her eating habits much- she's just taking the pills - most of them have gained after quitting the program.
I want to get to goal weight and maintain:dizzy:

I still go once a week to weigh in because I've been on maintenance but tomorrow is my last day and I'm not going to re-sign. I do love the grape concentrate protein drinks, I put them in my diet 7 up and it's wonderful so I will still buy those. Even after I'm done with maintenance and don't resign I can go in and by products if I want. One of their products I do really like is the EFA essential fatty acid gel capsules for omega 3's& 6's. It does great for my skin and hair and I don't eat a lot of fish and they are cheap

I met w a nutritionist a few years back and she reviewed my journal weekly. She said if I was 10 years younger I'd be losing weight w what I wrote down. I'll be 56 in May - sluggy metabolism! More exercise is what she recommended.

Good Morning Everyone! Hope everyone is doing well!

Hey skelley and bigdog... Sounds like my metabolism is pretty similar too... All the various online calculators seem to tell me I need 2000 calories a day to maintain... But my experience so far is showing me it more like 1500 right now... And 1200 to 1400 is about as low as I can go and not be really hungry... So that means from here on out it might be really slow going... But I'm determined to get to my goal... Just might take a lot longer than I would like...lol...

I'm hoping that once I get down to goal and my body accepts it's new "set point" I will be able to maintain on more than 1500... But if that's not the case I know I can be satisfied with the really big salads and lots of veggies, along with the moderate amounts of really good quality protein and the right amount of healthy fats for me.... Which for me is looking like 4 to 6oz portions of protein per meal and a couple of tbsps a day of good fats... for me that's mostly really good quality EVOO... But also some occasional organic pastured, grass fed, butter and cream... And I know I can still eat that way on 1500 calories a day too...

Just have to accept that I need to really watch my portions as well as my carbs...

And if I'm gonna count carbs... Well, carbs are calories, right? So I might as well just count all my calories too... ;)

Big Dog I use My Fitness Pal for tracking carbs.

I Set my goal for weight then I let the program set my plan automatically. That gave me an idea of daily calories. Then I set goals a second time manually. I left the calories at the level previously set by the program but I changed the carb, protein and fat percentages as follows:

5% carbs, 35% Protein and 60% Fat. This works really well for me. At this time I am not trying to track net carbs. I just track total carbs and try to keep them around 20 per day. Usually I find myself a little on the low side for carbs and have to force myself to bring them up to the Atkins suggested level for induction.

Before starting Akins I was a calorie counter I and used MFP for tracking. I have used it for many years and I feel very comfortable using it

I might as well post for the day. I was up this morning, but don't know if it was the Flat-out bread or digestive issues.

Bigdog, I use Fit Click diet tracker to track my food. (I think they have an iPhone app, but not one for android last I checked.)

Larry, I *love* your signature! :D

Breakfast: almond butter/chia seed pudding
Snack: cashews
Lunch: Atkins crustless chicken pot pie
Dinner: date night out again but I will be eating low carb.
Edited to add: I ended up having half of the inside of a carne asada burrito! :D Yum!
