Omigosh, I fell off the wagon!!! Not just a little, but a full face-plant fall off. I'm not even going to tell you how much I gained over the past couple of days. :( Are there any tips or tricks to get it off faster? I'm so mad! :(

Drink tons of water and eat lots of veggies - protein drinks- and even more water! :)

I lost 1 pound on weigh in today. I only have 12 pounds left to go now.

My problem is snacks.. Nothing stops cravings except the Atkins bars and I can't eat them as I gain weight on them.. I am better with sweeter snacks.

Yesterday I tried cream cheese /celery sticks
caprese salad

My biggest problem is latter afternoon around 3-4. Can't seem to control those cravings .

Please share your two snacks a day.

Thanks

Larry H 05-14-2015 11:23 AM

Down 2 pounds today!! :goodscale: :D:D:D

That makes 17 pounds in 23 days :carrot::carrot::carrot:

Just picked up Ketone test strips and tested for the first time. They show I have a moderate ketone level which means I am following the Atkins low carb plan correctly. :D:D

skelley331 05-14-2015 01:03 PM

Okay I'm struggling now and do not know why? Ever since I increased by calories to 1500 and 25 nc and gained back 2 lbs I have not been able to stay at the 1250-1300 calories I was in the beginning. So I pulled all my days prior from my fitness pal to see what all I ate to lose the 7lbs. So frustrating, I thought I had this but now I'm not so sure.

Geez!

Skelley, let us know what you come up with. I am struggling to find snacks that curb cravings.

Sugar free jello is great blended with cool whip! Any flavor
Beef jerky is a great snack and doesn't make me gain. Syntrax protein shakes :)

rpm3060.. that's sounds really good.. I will have to try that. I have yet to learn how to get creative with foods.. thanks for the recipe.. tonight for me just plain cherry sugar free jello...

Induction Day 24

Another Great day on plan. I do all of the cooking at home and my wife is not eating low carb. So I usually have to prepare two different meals. Our main meal today was easier. I cooked an Atkins friendly chuck roast with fresh steamed and buttered cauliflower. My wife also had a baked sweet potato but I passed on the starch. :D:

My Totals for 5/14/2015 are:

9g gross Carbs (NOT NET CARBS), 101g Fat, 83g Protein

Daily Goals:

18g Carbs, 109g Fats, 88g Protein

Larry congrats on the great weight loss.

Larry H 05-15-2015 08:38 AM

rpm3060 My snacks vary usually one of these. Dill pickle, hard boiled egg, Pepperoncini pepper, radish, or cheddar cheese. I read the labels carefully on the pickles and peppers to make sure nothing is in there to affect my Atkins diet. I also make sure I count all carbs.

skelley331 Sorry you are struggling. Have you though about returning to induction for a few days? I see you are counting net carbs as Atkins suggests. I do not subtract fiber and my daily carb count is somewhere between 5 to 12 grams. Extremely low but I seem to do OK with that.

Candy In Alabama Sugar free Jello uses the artificial sweetener aspartame. I am following the 2002 Atkins book which warns me to not eat anything with that sweetner in it.

bigdog Do you make your own Beef Jerky? I looked up the ingredients in a typical commercial brand listed below. I love beef Jerky but it would destroy my Induction eating Plan.
Teriyaki Beef Jerky: Ingredients: beef, sugar, water, soy sauce solids (wheat, soybeans, salt), salt, natural spices and flavoring, hydrolyzed soy protein, monosodium glutamate, garlic powder, guar gum,. polysorbate 80, caramel color powder, sodium nitrite.

WOW!! Down another 2 pounds this morning! :goodscale: :carrot::carrot::carrot:

That makes 19 pounds in 24 days. :thanks: Mr Atkins!! :D:D:D:

My test strips still show a Moderate Ketone level. This is great. Now to keep it that way!!

Hi All... Just thought I'd pop in and say "Hello"... :)

I'm doing well... Lost 4.2 lbs last week following WW, which I'm very happy about.... and even though I'm not "doing Atkins" anymore... for me doing "Atkins '72" was great to get me through what felt like a stall...

So my "Atkins '72" stats were... I lost 14 lbs in one month of strict adherence to the plan.... When I began eating carbs again gained back 4 lbs quickly, which is pretty normal because of the water needed for the replenishment of glycogen stores... So I had a net loss of 10 lbs for the month... Which I'm still very happy with... and I've managed to keep it off and after what felt like another stall... I'm happy to report that the weight is really coming off again... :)

One thing that is new is that I picked up a copy of The Beck Diet Solution which teaches Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques that work with any plan to help you lose weight and most importantly keep it off... It really is proving to be what could be a complete "game changer" for me... So I'm super excited about that... AND by the looks of things I'm on track to be at goal by July 4th... Which means I can celebrate my own independence from being overweight finally!!! I can't wait... :D

So as always, I wish everyone well here... YOU CAN DO IT!!! :carrot::carrot::carrot:

Congrats on the 5 lbs loss, didn't you rejoin MRC?

skelley331 05-17-2015 02:57 PM

Okay I gained 1.8lbs this week, WHY? I switched to OWL and I've been averaging around 20-30 nc eating my veggies and protein and fat. Also trying to watch calories and this is driving me crazy. If I eat too many calories I gain, but I surely won't have to stay at 1200 calories for the rest of my life will I? Don't know what to do, I'm so ready to just give up. I start out doing great on anything I try then my body seems to just stop, but I'm 5'7, 59 yrs young and weigh now 175.4. Got down to 173 and just can't get past it. I'm re-reading the Dr Atkins Diet Revolution again that was published in 1999. I'm just so tired of it all. :(

Skelley- are you drinking all your water? Last time MRC weighed you, did they tell you what your fat percentage was? Measure you? Are you exercising? Clothes fitting? Rings loose?
Sometimes it's not all about the scale :). You know we as women retain water- dang it!! Do what we did at MRC to kick start a weight loss- 1 or 2 days- just shakes and HNSs- see if that shakes up your metabolism ;)

Bigdog:
Hi, I'm drinking all my water and then some! The last time I weighed at MRC they gave me my fat percentage it was 39%, they hadn't measured me for a long time since I was in maintenance but it ran out and I didn't want to pay the $129 to buy another year! I walk a lot and do a lot of landscaping and gardening, clothes are okay, rings aren't loose since the weather has been humid my hands tend to swell up. Since I switched to OWL doing atkins I gained weight. I'm thinking of trying WW again maybe but I don't know! I'm missing my summer fruits like cantelope, watermelon and strawberries and they aren't allowed on Atkins until later in the phases.

I was thinking of maybe trying the green menu but I tried that three times and couldn't stick with it. maybe I'm just doomed!

You've lost 21 lbs.- that's incredible! I bet your gain is just water weight. My counselor was just talking to me about a weight loss stall- something about the fat cells --- she said to continue w the plan and that I would see a loss- I'll find the info and share it. I am loving my pink grapefruit w cinnamon and greek yogurt on the MRC plan. Atkins has a lot of recipes too that I'm using (the plans differ a bit but both are low carb and that def is the key to success. ;)
Just posted the weight stall info...

Weight loss stall info from Mayo Clinic

Getting past a weight-loss plateau
Just because your weight loss has stalled, don't revert back to your old bad habits. These tips can help you restart your weight-loss plan.

By Mayo Clinic Staff
You've worked hard to improve your diet and exercise habits, and your reward has been watching your weight go down and feeling better. Now, however, for no reason you can identify, the scale has stopped budging, despite your healthy, low-calorie diet and regular exercise. You've hit a weight-loss plateau.

Don't get discouraged. It's normal for weight loss to slow and even stall. By understanding what causes a weight-loss plateau, you can decide how to respond and avoid backsliding on your new healthy habits.

What is a weight-loss plateau?

Being stuck at a weight-loss plateau for days or possibly weeks eventually happens to everyone who tries to lose weight. Even so, most people are surprised when it happens to them because they're still eating carefully and exercising regularly. The frustrating reality is that even well-planned weight-loss efforts can stall.

What causes a weight-loss plateau?

During the first few weeks of losing weight, a rapid drop is normal. In part, this is because when you cut calories, the body gets needed energy initially by releasing its stores of glycogen, a type of carbohydrate found in the muscles and liver. Glycogen is partly made of water, so when glycogen is burned for energy, it releases water, resulting in weight loss that's mostly water. This effect is temporary, however.

As you lose weight, you lose some muscle along with fat. Muscle helps keep the rate at which you burn calories (metabolism) up. So as you lose weight, your metabolism declines, causing you to burn fewer calories than you did at your heavier weight.

Your slower metabolism will slow your weight loss, even if you eat the same number of calories that helped you lose weight. When the calories you burn equal the calories you eat, you reach a plateau.

To lose more weight, you need to either increase your physical activity or decrease the calories you eat. Using the same approach that worked initially may maintain your weight loss, but it won't lead to more weight loss.

How can you overcome a weight-loss plateau?

When you reach a plateau, you may have lost all of the weight you will on your current diet and exercise plan. Ask yourself if you're satisfied with your current weight or if you want to lose more, in which case you'll need to adjust your weight-loss program.

If you're committed to losing more weight, try these tips for getting past the plateau:

Reassess your habits. Look back at your food and activity records. Make sure you haven't loosened the rules, letting yourself get by with larger portions or less exercise. One study found that off-and-on loosening of rules contributed to plateaus.
Cut more calories. Further cut your daily calories by 200 — provided this doesn't put you below 1,200 calories. Fewer than 1,200 calories a day may not be enough to keep you from constant hunger, which increases your risk of overeating.
Rev up your workout. Increase the amount of time you exercise by 15 to 30 minutes and possibly the intensity of your exercise to burn more calories. Adding exercises such as weightlifting to increase your muscle mass will help you burn more calories.
Pack more activity into your day. Think outside the gym. Increase your general physical activity throughout the day by walking more and using your car less, or try doing more yardwork or vigorous spring cleaning.
Don't let a weight-loss plateau lead to an avalanche

If your efforts to get past a weight-loss plateau aren't working, talk with your doctor or a dietitian about other tactics to try. If you can't further decrease the calories you eat or increase your physical activity, you may want to revisit your weight-loss goal. Appreciate the weight you've lost. Maybe the number you're striving for is unrealistic for you.

Because you've already improved your diet and increased your exercise, you've already improved your health. If you're overweight or obese, even modest weight loss improves chronic health conditions related to being overweight.

Whatever you do, don't give up and revert to your old eating and exercise habits. That may cause you to regain the weight you've lost. Celebrate your success and continue your efforts to maintain your weight loss.

Induction Day 28

I am doing great on Atkins Induction. I checked my Pre-Atkins food tracking and I had been eating betwee 200 to 400 grams of carbohydrates every day. Since starting Atkins I have cut that to back to 5 to 19 grams of carbohydrates daily. A huge change. :D:D:D:

5/18/2015 Total 7g Carbs, 128g Fat, 83g Protein

My daily goal: 18g Carbs, 109g Fat, 88g Protein

skelley331 05-19-2015 10:50 AM

Larry congratulations I'm so glad you are doing great! I'm struggling for some reason, I need to go back to induction I guess.

Larry H 05-20-2015 03:29 PM

I had a six month check up with my Cardiologist today. He is very pleased with my weight loss. BP was 118/70 and my resting heart rate is 60. my heart sounds good, my lungs are clear and I have no swelling in my ankles. Most importantly when I told him I was on the Atkins Diet he said that is good. :D:D:D:D:D

That's great... Did you have labs done before you started Atkins? I know for me the times when I've done Atkins I've had issues with my LDL

I had labs done about six weeks before I started Atkins I thought that was close enough. My chloresteral was great then. We shall see what Atkins does this time. When I did Atkins 25 years ago the diet gave me a great improvement in my lab numbers.

Larry H 05-21-2015 09:38 PM

Good on plan day today. :D: I wanted to do yard work today but it was very hot and very humid. 95 degrees in the shade. :sunny: I thought to myself should a 70 year old heart patient go out in that level of heat and humidity and work? I chose reason and stayed inside which was the best choice. Usually I throw caution to the wind and push myself way too much.

rpm3060 05-22-2015 07:05 AM

This is my story....I know some of you are having problems not losing, as U an so I thought I would share.

I lost very little on Phase 1 of Atkins diet, but I have 10 pounds to lose that I gained on maintenance on MRC and could not take it off. Rejoined maintenance, and still could not get it off and I was not cheating , was eating their 1200 program that they gave me.

I had to stop MRC, because I was at Mayo and had serious medical problems , and after many tests we went thru diet, and I was told to get off all the protein drinks and supplements of MRC..
and not to take any weight loss supplements. I did, went back to Mayo and tested well... I can eat protein, but they want me to stay away from protein supplements, why I was not sure, but just glad I was ok..

When I went on to phase 2 of Atkins, I gained weight..

A friend of mine had same problem, and tried the 40 carb of Atkins, but she limited the grains you can have. She has 15 pounds to lose she gained on maintenance and she is doing well. It is slow, but with not much weight, that is fine. She has lost 3 pounds in 3 weeks that she started, and is never hungry.

Sorry to be so long winded, but wanted to share.

skelley331 05-22-2015 08:35 AM

rpm3060,

I'm so glad you shared because this sounds so much like my problem I had.
I lost 32 lbs on MRC but once I hit maintenance I gained 20 lbs back, I have 18.6 lbs to lose to make goal but its been rough. I started atkins induction on 3/30/15 and so far have lost 7lbs but when I tried to go to phase II I gained back 2.8lbs so I went back to induction this week and I've lost the 2.8lbs. But I also have to stay around 1200 calories if I go above say 1300 seems like I stall or gain. I think the MRC program messed my metabolic system up. I haven't checked out the atkins 40 yet I'm still going to stay with induction but I have found I can do 20-30 carbs and still lose at least 1.2 lbs a week.

I will never hit the 40 carbs, but there is more variety there, and I will not have the grains, etc that trigger my weight.. Please keep us informed on how you are doing, and I will do the same.. I can't go above 1200, like you I gain weight.. Good luck to you.

Induction Day 31

It is a Great day today!! :carrot:

My scale allowed me another 2 pound loss. :goodscale :D:D

That makes 23 pounds in 31 days.

I have averaged 9 grams of carbs a day for the 31 days. Before Atkins MFP shows I was averaging 300 grams of carbs a day. I sure cut them back and I lost my constant hunger as a result.

Skelley...

I have a question about weight loss at MRC... I was 98- 102 pounds most of my life and went up to 154 . I lost it all at MRC and went down to 117, as that I could maintain and maintained for a long time, and then I started to gain again.. I was wondering, how long did you maintain? I often wonder why that happened and nothing I did with that program would work anymore...

Thanks

I don't know your age but I did MRC june 2012 and was 180 and dropped to 155 and I was 55 yrs young and I'm 5'7. I hit maintenance in jan 2013 and maintained for about a year and rejoined feb 2014, I gained back 20 lbs hit my goal june 2014 then gained and re-enrolled with the new more plan and I gained on it. They only way it will work is not ever going off plan. But the first time I hit goal and maintenance they just told me to follow the maintenance menu and stay around 1330 calories. I couldn't eat the same food over and over and that's why it wouldn't work for me. The other two times I think my metabolism is so messed up from being on such a low calorie diet on MRC that now I can't eat over 1200-1300 calories or I gain and also I can't eat a lot of starchy carbs. Atkins seems like the only thing that is working for me.
