AnaBee, take advantage of the fact you have no dependants, if I didn't it would make doing this diet a lot easier! I was like you before my husband and I lived together as well. I'd lay around and slack on cleaning and always ended up throwing out a ton of food. Doing Atkins with a husband isn't easy, I have to cook two meals almost because he wants to gain weight and I need to lose. Usually I give him the carb laden sides and I take more of the veggies and we have a meat.

Today is my first day starting! Man, I went all out last night with the bad stuff though. I had a candy bar, chips, went out drinking, my husband and I split a bag of candy while we laid in bed haha. The only reason we could do this is my MIL is watching our daughter, but we'll be picking her up this morning.

This morning I had bacon and eggs, and unfortunately while my back was turned my husband added non fat milk to the scrambled eggs. He didn't know that I couldn't have it and didn't know about lactose and sugar being in milk. That's okay, he says it wasn't a lot and it is my first day still.
Lunch will be a no bread blt, and dinner I'm thinking chicken with cheese melted on it and salsa on it. Snacks will be veggies to keep my carbs up with veggies.

Whoo hoo! Lets do this! I'm 196.8 this morning but I'm looking forward to that dropping! Hoping to be in the 180's by V Day

Stephanie once the nonfat milk is gone get half and half at least - then it doesn't matter if it ends up in things - I doubt it made that much difference since there wasn't much in it but I understand what you mean by wanting things to be perfect especially in the beginning.

I look up recipes that are LC and cook for me since I do the shopping and cooking lol but if it is something that usually has rice or potato or pasta I make a small portion for hubs.... Which kind of galls me because HE is the one on pills for elevated sugar and should be doing this plan! I don't think he is feeling deprived and I'm only cooking one meal with the addition of a starch of some kind for him ..

AnaBee one thing I do if I don't get out to walk is I walk in place or pace during commercials - I figure it is movement and counts even if it might not be ideal... I'm of the opinion that every little bit helps

I made the rest of my meals in advance today, this way I'm prepared for when I go to my in laws for dinner tonight. It brings me to 17 grams of carbs and 1841 calories. I seem to be having the same trouble as last time, which is getting most of my carbs from veggies. I'll have to work harder on this.

It must be way harder doing this with a spouse who isn't - I really need to quit whining and just do what I have to do! I gained weight over christmas not because I was eating really bad stuff, but because I found it really hard to resist the carby sides my mum and sister ate (rice, rice noodles, potatoes - they were already being gluten free for me).

I too finished up a bunch of stuff yesterday, mostly ground flax which I've decided is too much of a problem food for me. I also used up my block of cream cheese which I made into muffins, since I can never stop with just one or two of them. I just had lunch, burger patties made with ground beef, some curry spice and some chopped onion, half an avocado and a tomato. Apple cider vinegar on top. I also had a teaspoon of pesto on the side since that was something else I wanted to use up. Yummy!

Rho, the walking in place is great. And it will get me up to do post dinner clean up bit by bit, rather than it being a huge mess.

That sounds like a plan to me ... But I don't quite get what you are saying about your problem of getting your carbs from vegetables.. Can you give an example of what you are saying in your menu?

Made a yummy catfish last night - melted 2 TBS butter and put in 2 TBS lemon in the butter then put the fish in it on both sides and then patted on ground down pork rides one each side and put in the baking dish and baked at 350 for about 20 minutes ... The hubs even loved it! I used a rolling pin to grind the pork rinds down to a powder (or as much of a powder as I could get it in the bag with the roller)

AnaBee it's hard making changes no matter the circumstances and we all find things that are hot items for us .. I found a weird on the other day - cherry Chapstick! Hubs went to the store and brought me one back since he knew I liked it and the one I asked for was out - OMG sent me int cravings for sweets - it is now living in a drawer and I ordered a dozen of the one I wanted from Amazon

Can you halve the recipe for the muffins you like so you only have two and if you have to do it each time you want it it might not make them as often ..

Rho, because 12-15 g of carbs should come from veggies, only 6 g of carbs came from veggies with what I ate yesterday. Ate a ton of lettuce, but it's so low in carbs, most of it came from a tomato I put in my salad. 2.5 g of carbs each day come from my morning coffee alone (one sweet n low, one scoop of coffee whitener and the coffee itself I count as a half carb).

I am excited to say I went from 196.8 to 194.8 already I love the whoosh of water weight you lose right away with Atkins, it motivates me a lot until the real weight starts coming off. I'm hoping I can be in the 180's by VDay!

This morning was scrambled eggs with salsa and cheese, yum! For lunch I'm thinking of cutting a green pepper in half and filling it with tuna mixed with mayo, maybe melting some cheese on it too. Dinner will be chicken with some sort of veggie.

I hope you guys don't mind me posting my food here, it helps me stay accountable

That's so funny about the chapstick Rho! I haven't had that one in ages but do love the smell of that flavour, I won't risk trying it again.

I wish I could have small portions of those muffins but so far I've not been able to show any restraint I'll see how I go in a few months. It's good at least to know there's something I really love that isn't high carb. I might save it until my birthday (late March).

Stephanie, happy to have you posting your food, it gives me ideas.

I had chicken stir fry last night. I made it like singapore noodles with the curry powder spice and I cooked a beaten egg through it at the end. Yummy and you don't miss the rice noodles at all.

I had a cup of cottage cheese for breakfast. It's not atkins allowed but it was one of the options the Eades suggest in Protein Power, a cup gives me 3.6g carb but 28g protein and that fills me up. I have it with a bit of apple cider vinegar and some salt and pepper. Really quick and not eggs. I was really struggling with breakfast so it's a relief to find something so quick and enjoyable. I'll have chicken and salad for lunch and probably lamb chops and broccoli for dinner.

If anyone else wants to post what they eat, that's cool with me! I like getting ideas too

I tried the tuna in a green pepper, it was yummy! Dinner was a chicken breast with just a small tomato and some cucumber cut up, so I definately got more carbs from veggies yesterday. I did have some bratwurst yesterday though, and I don't know if there were carbs in it. I looked up how it is made and most recipes have it either being carb free or having carbs from heavy cream.

I'm 194.2 today, so down another half pound Going to try to work out today, not sure if it will really happen though. Had 3 hard boiled eggs for breakfast, not sure about lunch. May just be some bison pepperoni and cut up veggies.

Best of luck to everyone else!

Default Day One

I am starting back on Atkins after trying WW. I am commiteed 100% as I would love to lose 20 lbs before my Vegas trip on April 16th. I am the type of person that can eat the same thing every day and not get bored. I am not much of a cook so I tend to stick to the easy stuff. I am so glad I found an active board. My meals so fa today: 2 eggs and sausage for breakfast, 12 almonds, three tomato slices, and 4 cucumber slices with greek vinigerette for a snack, lunch will be a slad and atkins shake, dinner will be corned beef...

Buckaustink, do the Atkins shakes affect your weight loss? I find I can't have them or the bars at all or I stall completely. Are you starting on induction?

If you do it right and stay strong you'll have no problem at all losing 20 lbs by then

Stephanie I worry about the Bars too I do have one occasionally if I am dying for something sweet but I try not to do it all the time - and I'm not much for shakes at all (it's a consistency thing lol) but I know some people have no problems with them at all.

Sooo... Fresh vegetables ---- my current obsession is brussel sprouts steamed cut in half and with browned Kerry Gold butter drizzled over them - Oh So Good.. Any one have a simple fresh veggie they are currently hooked on too?

Felt better today right up till around 1 then wham - yucky again - so frustrating but hubs reminds me that's how these bugs go as you are starting to get better ... No patience at all I just want to feel great again

Welcome, Buckaustink!

I hope you feel better soon, rho! My favourite veggie right now is steamed broccoli with butter and a bit of lemon juice. Yum! I generally have it with 2 lamb chops, this is probably my favourite meal right now.

Hey Rho, I noticed you are only a pound away from hitting goal for our challenge, congrats! I have some catching up to do

I'm so boring with my veggies, I just like simple things like tomatoe, green pepper, cucumber, lettuce, and sometimes onion. Green pepper is probably my favourite though! I should grill them or try something new other than eating them raw.
