Hello Friends

Today was an easy day of rest as I messed around playing computer games and even got in a little pool practice. I can bend over again! Son made a really good supper tonight of lean pork loin, portabella mushrooms, a little roasted potatoes and green beans. I am so lucky to have him preparing such great food. The gs is in trouble, though, because he didn't eat and so now he will get no snacks tonight. I was tickled when his dad told him "no, you can't have your yogurt tonight - you didn't eat your supper". I guess we are teaching him pretty well. I will wait for my yogurt til he is in bed

Yay Karenfl ! So nice to know that you are back. I hope that you enjoy reading everyone's posts.

Gayle, sorry about the family stuff. Sometimes our kids forget that we have our own needs and things to do. I'm sorry that your feelings were hurt. I think that sometimes even grown kids just want their "always there for me, totally focused on me, mommy" when they are having trouble. Just remember to take care of yourself. Just wondering, do the kids know that you feel stressed sometimes about work? And, congrats on the weight loss! I only weigh one time per month. I know that it works different for others. But, I would get discouraged looking at those numbers on the scale every day. Hang in there!

Mary, I went to the websight and looked at the peanut butter powder. It sounds lovely. I will have to order some. I ahve been wanting to do more with mocha and protein shakes but I will have to come up with my own as I just don't like the whey protein powders. Maybe if I came up with my own recipe. Good luck with the ebay ad. I had a hyst at 40, and they left my ovaries. I have been glad because I didn't have to deal with hormone replacement. I didn't realize that the cream has other implications. Hang in there.

Rosey, I am sorry that your skin is acting up. The ice cream sounds wonderful! I hope the weather clears up.

Zoe, wow, you are all over the state, aren't you? Yes, kids are so expensive - especially when they are grown! I have never been much for giving material things to the boys. I guess it's because I was so poor for so long while I was raising them. I like to treat them a little now, though but sometimes I go overboard on the presents for the little guys. Good job on being back on the wagon! I look at your stats and your height and I wish I was where you are. So close to your goal. You are going to look beautiful dancing - you just wait and see.

Marie, yup, we share a Bruce obsession. There are worse hobbies..... I can't wait to try the almond breeze as a iced mocha mix. I have a majic bullet and I love that thing but now that I am careful about sugar, most of my smoothie recipes are no good for me. Good Luck with the DIL.

Cindy, we are all about the baby steps. Good job!

Well, to Freda, lyn, lynn, Karenmo and others..... Have a terrific Saturday.

Good morning, ladies!

Karen--thank you for your warm welcome. I'm new to the forum and monster-sized lifestyle changes. Looks like the rainy season has finally arrived in Florida. Heading out to the pool this morning for workout because afternoon t-storms are becoming the routine. Last night I promised myself at least one round of water aerobics per day beginning in the morning. If weather permits, then another workout in the early evening.

I going to try this before my morning coffee. Decaf.

Good morning GG's,

Karen FL ~ so glad to see you here. Sorry you had a set back ~ looking forward to when you get to feeling better and can share with us some more of your adventures.

Welcome Floriduh and Cindy_Gail

Rie ~ glad you are feeling better.

Nancy ~ miss you ~ hope you are feeling better.

Sorry I can't get to everyone this morning. Headed out to work shortly. Hoping that maybe I can do some more of the personals this evening ~ never know though how things will turn out when I get home from work or who will show up But that is ok ~ I love that they live close enough by that they can just pop in when ever.

Last evening Maddie showed up (well mama brought her) and we pretended camping and swimming at the beach and some hide and seek

Yesterday at work was better than it is sometimes. And last evening when Jason and Sara showed up, it was nice and not stressful. I think I shouldn't write "in the heat of the moment". I vent, but then after a little bit of time passes, things don't seem so bad. Sorry for the times I have taken you all with me on that roller coaster ride.

Well, guess I'd better finish getting ready for work.

Hope you all have a nice day.

Take care

Good Saturday, All!

Oh, my.... it's Sunday! Well, I hope I had a good time during that day I apparently lost!

I have a baby shower to attend this afternoon. The mama is just 6 months along, but today is the shower. What do I know? It should be fun. I made a pretty afghan for her.

Rosey, you sound so contented! I’m so glad your “girls” have a nice home now! I keep tripping over mine; maybe I should check out your bra company?

Rie, so glad you’re finally feeling better!

Gayle, do you want to just run away from home? You’re welcome to visit! I think everyone is pick, pick, picking at you… and it’s not fair, because eventually you’ll take a deep breath and just implode! Given the above, I’m not surprised that you lost weight this week! Take care of YOURSELF, girlie!

PT/Zoe, I loved “Brothers and Sisters”, too, and I cannot, um, like, BELIEVE that they cancelled it! I’m nearly finished with #17 Stephanie Plum book (and #18 is coming out in the fall). It’s kind of ho-hum, I’m afraid! I would think Evanovich is getting pretty tired!! It’s okay, just not great.

Marie, the more I hear and read about Vitamin D, the more agog I am! Why did we not know about this????? It seems to be a heavy player in so many things, and we’re just ignorant about it.

KarenFL, glad to see you popping in! Hope you're doing well and getting well quickly!

Bobbi, pictures? And you haven’t mentioned the migraines lately (actually, you haven’t mentioned anything at ALL… where ARE you?); are they better? Did you have the tour and how did that go?

Nothing much going on. Granny/Mom is stable and getting better (I think). I'm stable (except for the drooling out the left side of my mouth...!), and all is well. No complaints.

I hope you're all doing well. Hello to everyone! Have a lovely weekend!!

Mary, I hate coffee but have a mocha obsession. I never tried a mocha until about 5 years ago and the obsession started. About 2 months ago I tried a sip of coffee and spit it out (was next to the sink). Funny part is I no longer like hot chocolate – it’s too sweet so I guess the espresso takes care of that for me. I agree about the risk of using the cream not worth it. I’m pretty much a don’t alter mother nature type of person. If the side effects are worse than the problem, I wouldn’t think twice about saying no.

Rie, I say a Bruce obsession is a good one. Non-caloric unlike my mocha obsession. I decided I need more than my London Hyde Park and Barcelona concerts for exercising entertainment. I’m going to join Netflix so I can watch TV and movies over the internet (I just bought a Roku box for streaming to the HDTV). I think I saw they had Bruce concerts. BTW, DH and I ended our 16 year relationship with DirecTV!!!! At 86/month and I only watch TV to exercise and watch concerts, it was a waste. So DD helped figure out how to do TV with high speed internet and over the air antenna. We live very rural and I found a high power antenna on amazon. BTW, I just adore amazon prime. Free two day delivery. Best shopping choice for us rural shoppers.

FL, welcome to the board and enjoy your water workout.

Hi KarenFL. It’s so wonderful to see you’re posting. It’s so appreciated and I’m hopeful you’re on your way to recovery.

Gayle, a lot of times, “Writing in the heat of the moment” helps make the moment less bad. You can always vent here. Most of the time, a majority of us are in the same boat.

Donna, I love your posts. You always make me laugh. Drooling out the left side of the mouth. Hope I enjoyed the day I lost. You have great humor. My expectations for the Plum books is no longer for romance and mystery. I like parts of the book more like abstracts. I laughed so hard at Lula driving the bus from the claims office lot. It was nearly worth the price of the audio download. I’d say I stopped liking the books for the plot and story at about #10. And #18 in the fall???? I figure wasting $$$ once a year isn’t bad. I don’t know if I could do it more than that.

So far a relaxing weekend. Got some chores done but mostly just enjoying 2 days off from work. I get a hair trim tomorrow (it’s been nearly 3 months) and an allergy shot. So my arm will be bruised and battered. I’m glad I see the allergist in July since I swear the allergies are worse. The asthma isn’t nearly as good as when I’m on prednisone but it is more stable. Maybe that’s the best I can hope for. Still don’t know if son and DIL and GD are coming over. DH made the “plans” and specifics aren’t his forte. We’re thinking of driving to town for a bike ride. We tend to go on long rides and I’m thinking a mini Blizzard would be yummy as a reward for a 20 mile bike ride – especially since it’s my no exercise day…

Hey GGs,
I’m still around. I’m just not spending too much time on the computer these days. I think it’s because the computer is in a “hot” location. My house is not very cool, only 3 window AC units. I hate turning them on & having to “shut out” the outdoors, so I delay it as long as possible! And I can’t figure out a cooler location for the computer. (I need a laptop, just can’t “justify” the expense!) I’m always having “conversations” with the GGs in my head, but just don’t get around to typing them out. I do check out the GG thread every day or two, just to make sure everyone is ok. And, to make matters worse, sitting at the computer seems to make my legs swell! (I’ve tried a different chair, & propping my feet up, doesn’t seem to help!) Taking a cool shower seems to make the swelling go away, so I’m thinking the heat is a major factor in this.

Ok, just had to go take one of those cool showers. My legs felt like they were going to burst, & I’d only been sitting here less than an hour! They’re about back to normal now, but I don’t want to risk them swelling back up, so guess I’d better go. I’ll try posting first thing in the morning when it will be a lot cooler. I really do miss “talking” with you all!

Good Evening!

I didn't get any of my chores done today. I got started playing on my computer and spent the whole darn afternoon doing that. Oh well, I guess I am entitled to some fun time.

I am looking forward to going back to work tomorrow. The staff seems to be missing me and I really miss the intellectual stimulation. I get kind of depressed when I am home too much and I don't think all the pain meds have helped that any. Tomorrow, when I am midway through a hideous first day back, Monday, I will try to remind myself that I wanted this!

I did a weird thing today. I ate a very small breakfast - a piece of whole grain toast with a little peanut butter. Then, I realized at about 430 that I forgot to eat lunch! I was sweating and shaky. Not a smart thing for the diabetic girl to do! I guess my appetite isn't back to snuff. Son barbqued again tonight: fresh corn, baby portabellas, and pork loin. Served with sliced cucumbers (my favorite) and, it is WW ice cream bar night for me and the gs. All in all, I am in good shape calorie and carb wise for the day.

My dear Gayle, this is the place for venting! As your friends here on the gg thread, the only thing we ask of you is that you share with us how you think and feel. I agree with Donna, I am not sure that your kids are being very considerate. As I said yesterday, I think it is sometimes the way with adult children. I hope your day at work is relatively easy.

Marie, I love netflix. But, I think I will do the dish network thing because I want to get hbo and showtime back. With my other interests, I am a boxing fanatic. I used to get several channels of each and they were discontinued. I don't plan to make the change til fall because I don't watch much in the summer. You are too funny: "20 miles" is a non excercise day.

Donna, I hope that you enjoyed the shower. I find myself feeling less than charitable sometimes about all the showers. Especially, the current propensity to have a shower for every child! I always thought it was kind of a 1st baby thing. I also think that sometimes I get invited to showers for young women that I don't know very well. It feels like a request for a gift. Maybe I am just turning into a crabby old lady. LOL

Mary, thanks for the link. I was wondering if you had explored any naturapathic remedies..... I hope that you get to feeling better. How is your bs holding?

Karenfl. Hope that you are on the mend and doing well! We sure miss you here. Don't tire yourself by posting but I hope that you can check in here and see all our well wishes.

Bobbi, where are you? I think the garden tour was this week, right?

Nancy, I hear you about the heat. I don't do well with it either. I hope that you are able to catch us in the mornings. Take care of yourself.

Well, Zoe, Lyn, Lynn, Freda, and our new fokes Sherrie, Floriduh, and Cindi, and everyone else that I might have missed, have a wonderful evening.

Hello GGs! It was a beautiful day here in the NW and we enjoyed it as we went to church, then out to eat and then to three different stores to shop for the good deals plus a few items we actually needed. We had lunch at a new Indian restaurant and it was very good...I like Indian food but only knew a few dishes and there were a lot of dishes that were completely new to me at this buffet. I am glad I asked about them as some were desserts which I would have started to eat with my non-dessert items! One I actually thought was some kind of meatball! But it is fun to be adventurous and try new things. I just took a little bit of most things. I didn't count anything but felt pleasantly full but not stuffed when I left. I even forgot to go back for rice pudding as I had planned! I figure whenever I forget to eat something it's a good sign! LOL

Can't believe how fast June has flown by! I'd like to slow down the summer as it always goes so fast. Nancy - I'm glad our weather is not so hot as yours usually. Yes heat can cause swelling but didn't you have a problem with swelling even before it got so warm? Maybe you should talk to the doctor about it? Could it be sodium intake? I miss your posts but understand your need to keep cool.

Marie - You sound so much like me! I just started liking mocha a few years ago when I was given a sample at Costco. I had always turned it down before, but this time I drank it and thought hmmm...not too bad. After that I started craving it! Just from that one tiny sample!! I started getting the ones in the food court and other places, but they are way too many calories and esp carbs! I actually don't care that much for those at Starbucks because they taste too much like coffee! So gradually I stopped buying them and started making my own. About the cream, I will talk to the doctor further about the pros and cons if she mentions it again. I took Premarin (estrogen) for about 18 years before finally weaning myself off it due to the potential risks, even though my doctor wasn't concerned. I had discussed it with my GYN who warned against it. Have to admit I felt great while taking it though. BTW, what is it about men and "specifics" ? My man's the same way!

Not much to talk about...kind of a lazy day. I hope to do some meal planning tonight based on what I have on-hand. We seemed to buy a lot this month. Hope you all have a good evening!

Good Morning GG's

I suppose we are finally getting our summer weather. With no spring. We went to DGS's football tournament yesterday. Son was one of the coaches. They lost on the 4th game but we were still there from 8-3. And it was hot. I did put on sunscreen and even took the bottle with me but left it in the car. I got burnt! right side of my face and my left arm. Can't figure that one out. I went to sleep last night with a cold wash cloth over my arm. After preaching sun screen I feel dumb!! I didn't eat too much, in spite of allt he junk food that was there. We ordered pizza at lunch time and I only had 1 slice and a banana. When we got home I made chicken and corn on the cob. So, an ok day calorie wise. The rest of the week is in the 80's so looks like a good week. I would like to get the family room carpet cleaned, if it stays warm and dry. It's been so damp I didn't want to get it wet.

Rie, I'm happy to hear that you are feeling so much better. I hope the first day back to work is ok. I am always anxious to get back too. guess I'm not much of a stay at home person. I don't like to work either, any more. Don't know what I am going to do with myself when I retire. Maybe I can find something fun to do. I share the Bruce obcession. the last time I saw him in concert it was sooo hot! They kep bringing buckets of water on stage and pouring them over him. Imagine that....wet t-shirt and all.

Floriduh, Welcome. Did you get your second round of pool exercise in yesterday?

Karen3, So glad to see you back. Feel better! We miss talking to you.

Gayle, It's hard when the kids pull you into their problems. especially when they get back together and you are still upset with the spouce! How are you supposed to be nice to someone that treated your child badly? But you are there for support so I guess that is good.

Donna, I hope the drooling as stopped! ha! Did you enjoy the baby shower? I find those things so boring I can hardly set throught them. I'd rather just send a gift and stay home. Like Rie, I hate getting invited to showers for people I hardly know. I hope this was at least a friend.

Nancy, I think it's time you had those swollen feet check out. I don't think it's just the heat.

Marie, 20 mile bike ride is not an exercise day? What, exactally, do you call an exercise day?

Mary, I love Indian food too. I used to work with an Indian lady who brought me stuff in all the time.

Bobbi, miss you. Hope you're doing fun things. BUT, if you don't check in soon, i'm calling...

Everyone, make it a good day,

Freda

Good Morning GGs,
Much cooler in the house right now, so let’s see if I can manage to stay & chat for awhile. First of all, I’m happy to report that I now have a platform bed with drawers underneath - Yay! Only had to add a sheet of plywood across the top, & lose the box springs (or whatever you call it/them now?), to make what I bought, work. Of course, now the bed is awfully “firm”, but SO loves it, & I think I’ll get used to it. Supposed to be good for your back, right? I solved the problem of the old mattress poking me, by adding a foam pad - wasn’t ready to commit to the expense of a new mattress yet. I really like the idea of having drawers under the bed. I think that will help me keep track of what’s under there (maybe?!). Didn’t make any “great discoveries”, when cleaning things out from under the old bed. Bit of a disappointment, because I really expected a few of those “so that’s where I put that!” revelations.

Now for my “bad” news: at weigh-in on Sat., I’d gained 3 pounds! Amazingly, I’m not too upset by that. I was sort of expecting it, because I ate more than usual last week, & I haven’t been getting out to walk much because of the heat. But, it was the first week I managed to stay under 145 lbs. all week (even on the “new” scale that weighs me at 2 lbs. more than the “old” one). I’ve just about got myself convinced that between 140 - 145 lbs. is a good weight for me. Maybe?!

Enough about me…. Oh wait, did I mention my DSD is in MN visiting her boyfriend, left last Mon., & won’t be back until Fri. night - almost 2 weeks! Yay! again. Anyway…. I am so glad you are able to stop by & say Hi! every now & then KarenFL! Sorry about that setback. You take it easy, & concentrate on getting better!

Rie, glad you’re feeling better. It’s so nice that you have your son there to fix nice healthy meals for you. And of course you deserve fun time - you're recovering!

Rosey, sorry about that sun allergy! Your snacks sound yummy! Can you make icees/slushies in your ice cream maker? I’ve been trying & trying to make sugar-free, low calorie ones, but they just don’t turn out right in the blender. I’ve been thinking I might need to try an ice cream maker. Any ideas, anyone?

Gayle, 2.2 lbs. lost is great (I think I found them). Yay! for you! Sounds like you’re back on the wagon (like Zoe). Sorry you had such a stressful day on Fri., but you know you’re SUPPOSED to come here to vent when you need to! I’m glad Sat. was better.

Zoe, sounds like you’ve been busy, busy as usual. Remember to take some time to rest. And you know you already look way better than “presentable”, & you’ll be beautiful at your son’s wedding! You’re our GG’s “glamour girl”!

Marie, your Iced Mocha recipe is a lot like mine, except I use powdered milk (1T) & regular coffee. And I use fat-free Reddi Wip instead of heavy cream. I use a little hot coffee, or hot water, to dissolve the cocoa powder & milk. Like you & Mary, I used to hate coffee, but now that I’ve learned to add the cocoa & powd. milk, I love it, & drink it every day! Hot & iced. Oh, about the new Stephanie Plum books - my local library usually gets them in shortly after their release, so I just check them out. Can’t afford to pay new book prices!

Donna, so glad Granny/Mom is doing good, & should be around for many more years. I understand your “joy” about that. I’m really glad to have my mom around, but there are times she can be, shall we say, “trying”? And glad you’re “stable”??!!

Mary, what kind of filter did you get that smells like gardenias? I love their scent, & have been looking for something like that. I tried growing them, but the plants didn’t last long, & wouldn’t bloom for me. And, isn’t it frustrating trying to figure out what medicines & supplements are good for you? Seems like the so-called experts all have different opinions, or change their mind every month or two! I'm impressed that you tried new things to eat at the restaurant yesterday. I always stick with the restaurants & foods I know & love. I'm not at all adventurous. And, I never would have forgotten to go back for rice pudding - it's one of my favorite things! Oh, & my previous swelling went away when I reduced the amount of water I was drinking. Now, the only time I seem to have a problem with it, is when I sit at the computer when it's hot inside (I'm fine this morning).

Freda, sorry about your sunburn. Left arm & right side of face?! How did you do that? Hope it's not too painful this morning. You sure did great with the eating. About my swelling, it's my legs, & it HAS to be the heat, because I have no health insurance & I can't afford drs. or health problems! So, I'm sticking with "positive thinking". And, as I told Mary, if I avoid that one "activity", I seem to be ok.

Bobbi, where are you? Just busy with your garden, I hope? Lynn, hope you’re enjoying your time in Asheville, or are you back at home now?

Hi! & Welcome to the new GGs, Cindy Gail & Floriduh! Nice to meet you. And Hello! to everyone I missed.

Well, I managed to sit here for three hours with no “ill effects”. Guess the trick is to do it when it’s cool. But, I have things I need to get done! And I’m supposed to pick my mom up in a couple of hours, because she wants me to help her pick out a new microwave. I’d better get busy. Bye!

Good Morning, All!

Marie, there’s a book site from Book-of-the-Month, called zooba.com. For $9.99 (no shipping), you get a hard covered book every month. You can choose your books, like any membership club, and that’s where I get my Plum books, as well as lots of others. I’ve belonged for several years, and it’s a fairly inexpensive way to get a good collection of hard covered books.

Freda, the baby shower was nice. The games (ugh!) were at a minimum and low-annoyance. She got lots of nice things! I thought it was interesting (well, two interesting things) that the only hand made gift was my afghan. Everything else was “store bought”, and I just thought that was, well, strange. The second thing is that this girl, while absolutely delightful, sweet, and loving, cannot, CANNOT, write a thank you note. (I’m still waiting for the bridal shower gift thank you! And since I’m so cranky about things like that, I did make a point to ask if the wedding and housewarming gifts were even RECEIVED)… anyway, she received TWO packets of thank you notes as part of her theme gifts. I chuckled, ever so discreetly! Hey, it’s a start!

Nancy, about your weight gain: if your ankles are swelling, you’re retaining fluid. Hence, probably, the weight gain. Try elevating them…

Saw Granny/Mom after I left the shower yesterday, and she’s looking really good! Her color is good, and the cold seems to be diminishing quickly. What a boon that she’s not smoking anymore! I finally feel like she’s getting back to her “old self” again. She mentioned how “cranky” (ummmm, CRANKY????) she’s been, and even THAT is getting better!

My weight has been absolutely steady for the last two weeks, not any up or down. And I know the hated scale is registering variations, because I weigh SamCat regularly and can see his changes. So, I guess it’s very good, especially considering the two-week visit with AZ Brother and all the socializing I’ve done this month! I think, though, that July or August would be very good for another all-out assault on the oogie, gooey, fat globules!! I think I’ve mentioned that Granny/Mom thinks it’s cute (apparently) to describe me to long-lost folks as being “big as a house”, and I agree, after seeing the baby shower pictures! I do not like the way I look. Do not. Do not!!

Welcome to all newbies! KarenMOFL, PT/Zoe, Bobbi, Lyn, Lynn, Everyone, have a lovely, lovely day! Later!

Good Morning and Welcome to our new GG's!! Had a pretty lazy GOOD day yesterday. Went to church and my Aunt and her Great granddaughter came with us. Then we had a good lunch at a small family diner in Webb City. Just very good downhome food! Then spent the afternoon doing a whole lot of nothing!! I did do a couple loads of laundry but that was about it.

Today I am going to vacuum the pool and then hopefully spend a lot of the day out there!! I have set it up so if someone wants to see the house that I want at least a 2 hour notice so I'm glad for that! We have had a lot of lookers but no offers have been made. We have decided that if it sells that is fine, if not, well we are fine with that too! I am not going through and packing up a lot of stuff like I did in Colorado---don't want to live like I am in a motel room!!

Karen-- glad that you are feeling better. Take it easy and don't try to do too much at once. Take care of you!!

Gayle, I think we have all been here and whined at one time or another (me maybe more than others!) But we are all here to give and get support and I think we have a great group!

Zoe, sounds like you are staying busy as usual! Don't forget to save some time for just you!

Well, I need to get busy so I will try to get back here later for more personals. Take care and have a great day!

Good Morning Golden Girls

Typical of our weather here, the sky is brilliant blue and it looks like a gorgeous day. Of course, it is the work week. I can't believe that it is almost July and neither of my boats have been in the water and I haven't been camping. Bummer! Oh, well, every day that it is not raining is a bonus.

I worked out for 25 minutes of light wii aerobics this morning. I can't believe how weak I feel after a whole week of laying around. I hope that changes quickly. I wanted to just power through it but I decided to work back slowly.

Nancy, I am glad that your ankles didn't swell this morning. Hopefully, it is just the heat. I have a platform bed in my office/spare bedroom. I really like the storage.

Donna, aren't our mothers cute sometimes? (not really) I don't think that you could possibly be "big as a house" at your height and weight. The thing that worries me, will I start doing those kinds of things to my kids? I would like to hope not, I guess I will never know....

Freda, sorry about your sunburn. Isn't it weird how that can happen? Good job on your eating. You give me lots of hope for the maintenance part of this journey.

Karenfl, I hope you are having a really good day! Keep getting better.

Hi to the newbies - I look forward to hearing more from you.

Off to work. Rie
