Hello, all!

Coralee, that's great about the cruise. What a splendid thing to do.

KarenBee, I'm so glad you found this thread. It's nice to be able to talk about losing weight here.

Maryea, you could get a water gun and squirt the squirrels to keep them away. I only put out thistle seed for the finches in a "sock" I make from nylon net, and sugar-water for the hummingbirds. The darned squirrels are too much, without anything else to attract them. A rat terrier outside would help.... I miss having feeders for the other birds, but the squirrels tear and chew up too many things, and waste so much of the bird seed.

Dawn, am sending you lots of good thoughts. It's nice to have you post. Hope you are taking good care of yourself.

Jane,

I'm going easy on the exercise this week-end, pacing myself more, doing things in stages. I'm wondering if the high heat is making everyone a little slower.

Doing well with my eating plan. Down another pound. I may not be too speedy about this, according to the tickers I see here at 3fc, but I'm going in a good direction, and taking care of my health, which is as high on my list as getting sleek again.

Hope you are are having a lovely day!

Thanks Silver for the idea of a water gun for chasing the squirrel away! I think my dh might enjoy that!

My blood sugar was back up today. So confusing when you are following a plan. I was looking at the plan the doctor gave me and Tony and I decided to follow it and see what happens. Starting it tomorrow. It is a combo of Calorie/Carb counting plan. I've got to have some energy so that I can exercise in order to lose weight at the same time.

We did get up and go to church this morning. Tony had decided last night that he wanted to go. I got up and ate breakfast and felt terrible and checked BS 1 1/2 hours after breakfast since I wouldn't be able to do a 2 hr reading. My BS reading was 285 and boy did I feel it. For 2 cents, I would not have gone to church, but Tony hasn't be able to or felt like going since the clots in his leg and lungs so I made myself go. I set in church and felt like I was drugged... off in another world. When I got home, I checked the reading agaom 2 hrs after dinner and it was 138.

Hope y'all have had a great weekend. I'll catch y'all tomorrow.

Trish My BS seems to go highest when I eat rice, or fruits or am heavily stressed. I know each of us is different but some of my experience might help. Be patient, it takes a while for the body to adjust. If not by diet and the pills, there is insulin. You can beat this 'beast'.
Silver thanks for the encouragement. I agree we may loose slowly but heading "south" (down the scales) is the way to go. Even 1/2 pound per week would = 26 lbs per year.

Going to sit with my lady while she has a vascular exam to see if she is a candidate for surgery. Her age and body size make her an at risk patient. Seeing as I am facing similar surgery in the near future (knee is not being useful) I am paying close attention. I will be staying with her for a few days starting today.

Hope everyone reading this is well and happy.

Good Morning Everyone,

Chic This really is a journey of learning isn't it. This morning my blood sugar was back down. My scales are going down too so that is a blessing. I agree that even 1/2 lb a week is better than nothing and when you think about 26 lbs in a year... it is better than gaining that 26 lbs in a year. Hope everything goes well for you and your friend.

Well, Costco is on the agenda for us today. We have waited so long that we have to go today which is good because we will get some much needed walking to do and if Tony gets too tired he can use the riding cart. We will go eat at Sonny's BBQ which is diet/diabetic friendly. Already got my order planned.

Have a great Monday everybody.

DH reminded me of the Accu-Chec ads on TV so I went to their website and found some forms to copy to use as tools to help me with the journey. I have a step-sister whose hubby tested after evey food he ate to see how the foods affected his blood sugar when he first learned he was diabetic. He learned what he could and couldn't eat of the foods he likes and has kept his BS normal ever since.

So I am testing 2 hrs after meals and snacks. The website also gave the recommended numbers BS should read 2 hrs after eating. One is the ADA recommendation and the other is ACE (American College of Endocrinology). ACE's numbers is lower and I'm going by that one. Lots of work, I know, but I just need to feel like I'm in more control and keep the scales moving downwards.

Hi everyone! Just a quick check in before I start dinner. It's been a beautiful but busy day. Started my day watering and fertilizing all the plants. Missed 3 or 4 so will catch them tomorrow. Then because it's the first of the month, had to do the monthly budgeting and we went to the CU for some cash. We aren't spending much these days (with cash) but like to have a little in our wallets anyway. We did some grocery shopping while we were out. I am SO thankful for those carts for the disabled! Never thought much about them until my dh's accident but now I am very grateful for them!

Came home for lunch and then out again to return a light bulb that wasn't the right size and did a little shopping at Lowes too. My dh has decided to have the tree removed (the one that caused his fall) and we had to get some spray paint to mark the digging area for the utility people to make sure it's ok. So I have sprayed it and hopefully they will come tomorrow so we can have the tree guy come soon too.

So far this summer since he has been unable and I've been so busy...all I have gotten too is yard maintainance and we have planted no flowers at all. We usually have pots of flowers in front of the house and often some hanging plants. But this year all the pots and annual flower areas look so bare so today I picked up some flowers on sale (got several little plants for $3.50) and my dh is going to plant them in a pot by our front door. So finally we will have a spot of color once again. I'd like to do it but I just have too much to do right now and he wants to do it. So I'll get everything set up for him so he can sit and do it.

He is able to move his leg much better now and we go to the doctor tomorrow for x-ray. He is looking forward to it as thinks he will be able to bear more weight after that and perhaps start out-patient PT. Yesterday I got the water for him and he wiped down the car. Later I found out he even lifted our large cooler into the trunk in anticipation of our shopping today. So he can do a lot now!

Good Morning, all!

Maryea, I sure can understand about not getting to plant flowers. I have given away about 2/3 of my plants since doing my own yard work. I intend to give away a few more.

I'm glad your DH is doing so much better.

Trish, I'm glad you're taking such good care of yourself.

I'm pacing myself carefully this hot month of August, and keeping on my plan.

Sending you all good thoughts.

Hi ladies,

Trish - my sister started testing her bs after eating certain foods, and found that carbs help keep her sugar lower. Sounds wrong, but it works for her. Every body is different, that's for sure!

Dawn - to our group! I look forward to knowing you better.

Mary - so glad your DH is better! I have to admit my flower gardens looks scraggly. The heat is just too much for me, and I haven't kept them up like I should. Neal takes good care of the yard, thank goodness.

Coralee - hope all went well for your friend.

Silver - my weight loss has been slowish, too, but I'm not in a big rush, anyway. What gets me frustrated is the ups and downs, even when I've been OP! I'm six months in, now, and have learned to accept it. Keep in mind that each 1/4 of a pound is equal to a stick of butter. Sounds better that way!

Another day with too much to do! Spent 59 minutes on the phone with Hewlett Packard re my new printer yesterday. After all that, they couldn't resolve the problem and are supposed to call me back in a bit. I'm just a few days over the limit to return it, or I would!

We are headed for temps over 100, with the heat index of over 110. Siberia is looking pretty good right now!

Have a good one, and stay cool, ladies!

I posted in the other thread but the best news today is that my dh can now bear weight on his fx leg!! The doctor said probably soon he won't even need the walker.

Wow, Jane it is hot where you are! We were suppose to have low 80s...not sure what we actually got but it was warm but felt good. Sorry about your printer problems. Hope you get it figured out soon. I'd rather have computer problems than printer problems because I don't understand my printer at all. I've had three printers and they have all done wierd things!

Silver It's been a busy day, but I think my dh is going to pot the flowers tonight that I bought the other day. So we will have a little color at our front door at least. We do have a few other flowers but nothing like usual.

Hope to listen to my hypnosis tape tonight. I have missed the last couple days. They started charging me since I did not return them, so guess I am keeping them. I need to listen more consistently and hopefully they will help me. I have done better with my eating recently so maybe they help me more than I know. I have not been exercising though. I need to get back to that. If my dh starts doing really well on his own, I'll probably start back to the gym. Hate to in a way as I'm enjoying all I'm doing right now.

Take care...

Good Morning Everyone,

This will be a quick one. I've been doing a lot of reading online as I learn how to keep this bs in line. I'm settling into a healthy way of eating for me. Now I'm trying to help hubby to do the same. It is easier for me to do this because I've had to do it most of my life, but harder for Tony. He has never had to watch what he ate much. I think he did too much yesterday as it seems that his leg was swollen more. I think we have another month before we are supposed to see any real change. I've never asked our Primary what Tony should and should not do. The Cardiologist said he could do what he felt like doing. I think I need to ask the Primary doc about that. Tony goes to have his blood check for he Coumadin. I think I'll have the nurse ask the doctor when she gives the doctor the report and get instructions from him.

Mary So glad your hubby is able to bear weight on the leg and I know he is.

Jane I have a book that says that the carbs would keep my bs down and it would stay level. I looked so forward to eating oatmeal for breakfast. But it doesn't work for me. Shoots my bs up almost to 200 and once was almost 300. I am using 1400 calorie high protein... using more SBD plan and the bs is back down to 113 this morning. BP is staying down as well. I don't think my doctor divides bs readings into 3 stages... normal, pre-diabetic and diabetic. I am more in the pre-diabetic stage. Losing weight and eating right plus moving more will help get it back into the normal range. I am starting to feel normal again so that is a big help in the moving department.
