  • Good Morning Ladies,

Good news yesterday. When I had my physical a few weeks ago, the doctor question some places in breasts and lymph glands under left arm so he ordered a mammogram and ultrasound. Had that done yesterday and everything is okay. So looks like the only thing I have to do is take care of getting BS under control and what goes with that.

I decided that I felt so bad doing such a strict low carb so I joined the online South Beach Diet. That is what I had told the doctor I was going to do and he liked that because SBD does improve so many health problems. I just needed a little more carbs than what I was getting.

Jane Keeping your family in my prayers.

Em I miss sitting on back porch early in the morning. It has been too hot for that this summer. Of course, going through the shingles experience may make it feel hotter to me. I told Tony that when he gets to where he can do the lawn again that I'm going to get out there and help him. He thinks it is too hard for me, but like you say it is good exercise. I'm learning that exercise doesn't have to be a structured thing... the important thing is to get moving doing things we enjoy.

Hope everybody has a very good OP day!!!
  • Hello everyone! Thought I'd drop in again. Feeling lazy today yet trying to get things done but it's getting done VERY slowly!

Patty - glad you got a good report from the doctor! That's very good to hear! Good luck on the diet. I just count carbs for my bs issue and as long as I don't go over on what they told me, my bs stays pretty good. Of course I also have to count calories for weightloss. I'm also going to do more yard work when my dh gets back to working outside again. I've decided I like it and I feel better getting outside more.

Em - everyone needs a day off now and then. Sounds like you have a good plan. I like the resort idea...you also get to pamper yourself a bit at a resort, don't you?

Yesterday my plan was to clean the office and bedrooms thoroughly...moving any furniture, dusting and vacuuming and spraying the bug spray (preventative) along the outside walls. Didn't get to it yesterday as we went out and today I figured I'd do it. Well, I have pulled out the small bed (twin) in my office and vacuumed behind it, but I forgot this bed had been dropped (like I recently did our big bed) to make it lower and safer for our youngest gs. Before we did that, we used to keep an extra mattress under it for when the gc were here so two could sleep in my office. It was easy to pull it out when needed. So I was just thinking that was what it was. But the box springs is heavier and when I moved the bed the box springs came out crooked (in relation to the bed) and I can't get it back in. And I thought the big bed was hard! I can't budge this box springs so am thinking maybe I'll have to remove the mattress and then maybe I can move back the boxsprings in place and then drop the mattress on top. Will try that after my break. Can't lose my title of "bed wrangler" can I, Coralee?!! In the past I would have just called my dear husband. I hate to even tell him my troubles these days as I know he wants to help me.
  • Just a pop-in to say hello!

Too many things to do, and too little time!
  • Trish That is good news about the tests, and I like that you and your doctor agree about the food plan. I was in South Beach (Miami) last October.
Looked and looked but did not see one fat person (except me) so the diet must work...... .
Mary Bed wranglers can also lie and say the 'feng shui' in the room requires a crooked mattress for a while. You asked about hypnosis. I used the technique sparingly with my clients as I wasn't certified as a hypnotherapist in my state. I learned the method years ago. It is an interesting technique and one that I use on me!. When working with clients I pretty much taught the relaxation stuff, and gave them a suggested 'key word' that they would use to help them regain mental/emotional balance.

Attended my first birthday party in years yesterday. My lady's daughter turned 38. There were 9 people and the party, three of them 5 years and under. Too many people! <I am turning into a curmudgeon> My BS was 109 post last night. Yay me, I thought... so I overindulged with cashew nuts. This morning the BS was 135.. bad me I thought.. let's learn to avoid those darlin' little nuggets of fat.

Hot again today, but yoga and weight training are scheduled and by goddess they will be done. (my self hypnosis at work.. I am getting very sleepy.. zzz must go exercise... zzzz

  • Well I'll try this again. Was typing and hit a wrong key I guess and lost what I wrote.

Mary - I find myself hating to ask DH to do things to help me. It is difficult when they aren't able to do things. Hope you got the bed back in place.

Chic My FBS was 113 yesterday morning and today was 125. I have no idea what happened. I do know that stress or not enough rest can affect it.

Jane Hope things went well yesterday.

Hope everyone is having a good day!
  • Hello, all!

Trish, I agree about any kind of moving being good exercise. Glad you got a good report from the doctor. Having shingles is rough. Hope you are taking especially good care of your immune system.

Mary, I like the pamper idea. I decided to stop pushing myself so hard about the exercise these days, and just enjoy my walks because I like them. The Callanetics can be my go-for-it department. I like rebounding because it feels a bit like being young and has something carefree about it. The gardening has its hard days and its lighter days.

Jane, am sending you good thoughts!

Coralee, did you get your yoga and weight training done? Did you post what kind of yoga you do? I'm not always good about keeping up with posts.

This is quite late for me, so will wish you all a lovely evening.
  • Just a quick one today. Slept in today, but have a busy afternoon. Got to go do some shopping. Y'all have a great weekend.
  • The kiddos are here for overnight, so I'm busier than a one-armed wallpaper hanger. Just wanted to wish you a good day.
  • Hi everyone! Been busy finishing up the week's chores but I got them done. To those that asked...yes I finally got the bed back together! Loved the Feng Shui idea though, Coralee, but it would make it difficult for me to use my office as it is a small space!

Today was spent watering the lawns and a little watering of one raised garden. Didn't bother with all the plants since it is a cooler day today and the sprinkler hits some of them too. Finished thoroughly vacuuming the bedrooms..well as thorough as I could...I can't move all the furniture...and finished the bug spray prevention thing. Then my dh wanted to do some under-the-hood car maintenance and was itching to get out there so I went with him and assisted a bit. Then he wanted to fix the broken shelf in the fridge so I helped him gather the tools he needed and got him seated in the kitchen so he could do it. So now I have another shelf in my fridge! Nice as it was getting a bit crowded in the main part since the shelf broke. I had no clue how to fix it but he's been wanting to do it ever since it broke.
He loves to fix things and normally I'm happy to see him do it..LOL but I'm perhaps a little over protective of him right now, I don't know.

We have also been getting estimates on our tree...both for possibly just cutting back the limbs and for complete removal. I am leaving it to my dh to decide. I like the way the tree looks in our yard but the roots are all over, messing up the driveway etc. and he thinks it is leaning a bit. We don't often have strong winds but of course they happen now and then. I used to want to keep it but since his accident I don't really care about it. We are getting 4 estimates...the last one should be here any minute. So far they have ranged from $200-350 for trimming and $650-775 for removal. I suspect we will go with removal and keep the firewood. We have promised at least some of it to a neighbor who wanted to cut down the tree but we won't let him due to liability issues.

I've been so busy and haven't done any exercise (other than being active) nor have I listened to my hypnosis tapes. Hopefully will do both tonight.

    Talk later...
  • Hello, everyone!

Seems as though folks are especially busy these days.

Maryea, how nice to have help with the repairs. Efficient space in the fridge is a big help. I'm glad your DH is doing so much better.

    Jane,

Am keeping my food and movement plans and enjoying not pushing myself as hard as I was for a few weeks. Guess my homemade "weight loss resort" was long enough. I will indulge in a little eye, and hand, cream a little while longer.

Sending you all best wishes for a lovely weekend!
  • Hello everyone -- thought I would jump in and join the conversation -- nice to see you here Silver/Em, and thanks again for the info in that other thread....
  • KarenBee welcome aboard!
Maryea Can I borrow your dh to come to my 'fixer-upper'? I am pretty independent however sometimes ya need a guy's strength to do stuff. -like the leaking roof.
Jane are the kids still willing to hear bedtime stories? East o the Sun and west o the moon was one of my favorites for sharing to the older grades.

Folks! I am going on a cruise!!! My lady is treating me to a caribbean cruise in March 2011. If this is not an incentive for me to stay OP, I don't know what is. Wow. no one ever has treated me to something like this. My first thought was. I don't deserve this. countered quickly by. Yes.YOU.DO.
    boy oh boy.

ps. the yoga and weight training happened for 3 consecutive days and one of those stinkin' little devils in my signature is history.

have a great week end everyone
    Coralee
  • Hi ladies,

Em - good for you, not pushing yourself at a pace that might cause burn out. You're doing great! Thank you for the good thoughts!

Trish - YAY for the great report from the doctor! What a relief, right? Hope your blood sugar is lower today.

Mary - you've been a busy little bee! And whoo hoo for your hubby fixing the fridge shelf. He's coming right along, isn't he?

Karen - I'm so happy you joined us!! I think you'll like it here, and I look forward to knowing you better.

Coralee - wow, a cruise! How wonderful for you! Yes, that will give you extra incentive to stay OP. Thanks for the tip on the book!

Well, the kiddos are gone with their daddy, so I've got time now to catch up with reality, lol.

    See ya next month!
  • Good morning everyone!! It's another cooler day today. We had our usual pancake breakast we have on Saturdays and we've been watching the antics of the squirrel in our backyard. For years we have had one or two squirrels but the first time I saw this particular squirrel, I sensed he/she is a different squirrel. Don't know whether the others died or what but we only see this one now. It appears younger and is not afraid of us at all. It will sit and eat and I can get within 3 ft of it at least. Haven't really tested how close I can get as I don't really want it to get TOO tame! I'm making sure our doors are kept closed though as I have a feeling this little guy would come indoors if we let him! Like all the others he is not content with the seed that the birds spill from their feeders and he climbs out and wounds his body around the feeders to get to the bird seed. Looks so funny, but makes my dh so mad as he says he bought that seed for the birds not the squirrel!! He goes to the door to shoo him away and the other squirrels used to run but this one is not worried about him at all. And if he does run away, by the time my dh can get back to his chair, the squirrel is up on the feeder again. LOL Such is the retired life, nothing to do but watch the squirrels...

Coralee - if you lived nearby and if my dh were up to it, you can bet he would be happy to help you fix things as he loves to help people in that way. That's just the way he is and our neighbors all know it and appreciate it.

Wow! A cruise sounds really cool...we have never traveled that way but think we will one day. I used to think I might get seasick as I am prone to motion sickness but everyone tells me the big ships these days aren't much of a problem that way. And you can always wear the patches just in case. I'm happy for you!! Also was noticing your sig...you are losing...GFY!

Not much to do today since I've been diligent the last few days and got caught up. Guess it will just be a relaxing weekend.

    Have a good one, folks!
  • Summer has been a bit crazy.....not in control of my foods all the time.

I am home now and starting back tomorrow with diet and exercise.

I am not going overboard today or anything, but am in a bit of pain with some health issues so am not exercising.
