Good Morning Golden Girls, We got more snow last night. Will this weather never end? By the time I got off work the roads were a slick mess. I had forgotton to put my scraper back in the car, but thankfully the snow was that light, fluffy kind that just brushes away.
Cat, The video was so cute! Thanks for sharing.
Karen31, "I can make you thinner" is on often. They have had 2 episodes allready. I've learned a few things. One of the things he stresses is, never eat something you don't like just because you think you should. Eat the things you love. Got to agree with him there. The last one was about tapping when you get a craving. You'll have to see the video to get that one.
Laurie, Zumba sounds like fun. The first time we try new things, they usually hit muscle groups that we haven't used. We find out we have muscles in places we never realized!! I hope you have a good trip.
Lyn, You are officially retired!!!! Set the alarm clock for the work time, just so you can shut it off and go back to sleep!!!!
Lou, I'm on basically the same program, eating healthy, watching calories. I've found that eating more often, small nutritious snack helps. And lifting weights. The more muscle mass you have, the more calories you burn. And besides, you look so much better when you're toned.
Lilly, So glad to hear that you are feeling better. That stomach flu has really made it's rounds this year.'
Linda, You know you have to take care of yourself girl! Those hypoglycemic attacks are ugly, and can get dangerous.
Karen3, I take some vitamins too. I know we should get the nutrition we need from food, but it's not always possible.
KJD, Welcome. Visit often. Starting any exercise program is great, but it's important to start gradually or you will end up hurting yourself. Go slow, take a walk in the morning and a walk after dinner. Start with the lightest weights and if you can't get through the whole exercise, don't worry about it. You will in time. I started with 3 pounds weights and now I use 10 lb. But that didn't happen over night.
May I join your group? I'm still 66 (until July) and have been retired since 2002. This is my second try going from morbidly obese to normal. (Last time, I only got to overweight!)
I have a problem. Last time I lost, I reached the point where my buttocks, especially the left one, hurt while walking. PT to strengthen my core seemed to fix that. This time, it is pain in my right leg, obviously coming from my lower back and, so the PT guy suggested today, my right hip. I went for an hour's walk on Tuesday -- really felt great. Wednesday, the leg ached slightly all day. Tried to walk in the afternoon, but it hurt when going uphill, so I returned home. Today, I've been limping the whole day. This puts a big crimp in any attempt to exercise. [I've got The New Rules of LIfting for Women and want to "look like a goddess"! Hard to do when I cannot do anything in the book - and not much out of it. ]
Hi KJD,
WILCOME! You have done GREAT with your weightloss & are almost at your goal - how FANTASTIC!
Sorry to hear about your back/hip - I've had surgery on both - that kind of pain is NOT fun.
After being married for 43years, I took a careful look at my wife one
day and said, 'Honey, 46 years ago we had a cheap apartment, a cheap
car, slept on a sofa bed and watched a 10-inch black and white TV, but
I got to sleep every night with a hot 20-year-old gal.
Now I have a $700,000+ home, a $55,000.00 car, nice big bed and big screen TV, but I'm sleeping with a 65-year-old woman. It seems to me
that you're not holding up your side of things.'
My wife is a very reasonable woman.
She told me to go out and find a hot 20-year-old gal, and she would
make sure that I would once again be living in a cheap apartment, driving
a cheap car, sleeping on a sofa bed and watching a 10-inch black and white TV.
Aren't older women great? They really know how to solve a mid-life
crisis..
KD . . . you are my new hero . . . you've done magnificently well on the weight loss, Chickie (I'm jealous) . . . and you are actually a tiny little bit (a few months) OLDER than I am (that seldom happens around here). BTW, I've got lots of places that hurt right now -- but a little less than they did 60 pounds ago and I hope a lot more than they will another 60 pounds from now. Hope those pains clear up for you soon.
Well now . . . here it is almost noon, and all I've really accomplished this morning is sponging a lot of cat hair off the furniture . . . although I think I could keep going over the same places for the rest of the day (year) and still keep finding more. It is never ending -- can anybody tell me whey my cats aren't bald yet.
We've got a dull and overcast kind of day on the go here in northern Nova Scotia and there is some white fluff falling out of the sky . . . will this Winter ever end? Had one of those OMG moments this morning when I suddenly realized it was almost the end of March. Sometimes I seem to miss whole chunks of time. This year is just speeding on by.
Well, I'd better get myself moving and shaking around the site. See you all a little later. . .
Folic acid is another if I ate that much oily fish a day I'd have cat breath!
Oh, Karen3 you just kill me. If laughter adds years to your life I'm guessing I'll live forever if I keep hanging around with you.
EEEE Linda Scary - and good thing you rescheduled that dentist. Would not be dignified to have the paramedics have to come revive you while you have that suckey hose thing in your cheek As for pet hair? I can sweep, vacuum and mop, go to the garage to start a load of laundry and come back in to find another 40lbs of dog hair wafting around. I think my rottie hides hairwads and sets them out to redecorate after I'm done cleaning. And I'm quite sure she's borrowing some of them from other dogs in the neighborhood because one dog can't possibly even grow that much hair, much less shed it. Thank heavens for tile floors and leather furniture.
HeeHee Lynn - I'm copying that one and sending to MILs and my other friends who are "ladies of a certain age". Maybe I'll send it to DH too just to keep him thinking
Welcome KJD Looking forward to getting to know you. I have issues with lower back as well. Docs keep suggesting surgery but I've found that getting my core in shape (OK better shape than it was anyway ) seems to be helping quite a bit.
Today is the day - Doc is going to let me know how blood tests looked Then off for a weekend getaway. Hoping doc won't depress me in to returning to a beer diet for the weekend. Kidding. Thinking positive about ability to stay OP. Wish me luck.
Hello..am home for the night. Contra to what I thought we played really well and came in. First in our group and 5th overall this morning. Didn't stay for final scores, but were doing good with one round to go. Absolutely exhausted and brain dead. Didn't eat enough and need to get more calories in.(water intake ok) Wonder what I can find that requires no fixing, chewing or work and will bring itself to me. They had tables of snacks and I didn't cheat. Brought my lunch....the Darn Diet God better let that scale fall big this week or else....i'll cry
Checked fitday and I have everything in red....(not good)It's a good thing I took a vitamin this morning.... Nite...karen3
This morning I'm picking up my Little Sister & we're going to a Teen Leadership conference conducted by the Big Brothers/Sisters organization. After that, dinner (at my DD's or at a restaurant) and then, off to a sing-along where my professor will be singing/playing. Hopefully, I'll be able to stay awake for all of this.
Boy, did I sleep in . . . almost 9 am when I finally got up . . . and my blood sugar was awful (must have been the timing -- the almost 2 quarts of ice cream I ate yesterday couldn't have had anything to do with it -- ).
Anyway, after two bad, bad (and uncounted) days in a row, I am determined to make the last 3 days of March POP days. No treats or triggers for me and I'm going to make that my major theme for the entire month of April -- NOTT -- Treats are pretty obvious; things like candy, cookies, cakes and other high calorie, high carb desserts; Triggers includes certain kinds of high GI carbs (white flour, and/or highly processed) and, of course, anything with an excess of HFCS and/or a lot of artificial sweeteners, particularly the sugar alcohols. Now, there is nothing wrong with a lot of these things if you can control the portions. Unfortunately, I cannot.
Okay . . . having got that off my chest . . . the sun is trying to poke out off and on today and it looks so pretty shining on the almost 4 inches of fresh snow. I am not going anywhere today and that's a good thing because the radio has been talking about some pretty nasty accidents on local roads over last night and early this morning.
While I was out yesterday (as well as the Ice cream ), I bought a couple of new Health/Weight related books . . .
Eat This - Not that, by David Zinczenko (the Abs Diet guy) So far, I'm a little disappointed with this one -- mainly because it is very US oriented. It compares a lot of restaurant meals and different brand-name products that we, unfortunately, do not have here in the frozen north called Canada. There are some real eye-openers though; but you do have to read the fine print because sometimes the main differences that they are quoting are not instantly clear in the pictures (it's very visually driven).
Magic Foods for Better Blood Sugar, by Robert A. Barnett (one of the authors of TheVolumetrics Weight control Plan which is one of my favourites). At first perusal, I like this one a lot. It is aimed at the current epidemic of Metabolic Syndrome sufferers rather than those of us who already have full blown diabetes. It's based on the GI (Glycemic Index) -- actually the more recent GL (Glycemic Load) which improves on the GI shortcoming by taking into consideration the actual impact of a 'serving' of food rather than a predetermined amount of net carbohydrate -- and I am a firm believer in the GI/GL theory of Good Carbs/Bad Carbs.
Anyway . . . enough of my babbling for now . . . I've got other places to visit around 3FC and it's heading for the noon hour already . . . so I'd better get myself moving and shaking . . . Hope you all have a great day, doing lots of good stuff . . . see you later.
Good Morning! Well, I am up a pound this week! Darn It! But I'm not surprised since it has been so hard to get back on track and stay there since we got back from Mo. And then tonight we are celebrating our oldest grandsons birthday (missed it while we were in MO.) and he wants spaghetti and I made a cake) So tonight sure won't be on plan! But after not being able to see him in about 10 years because of a bitter break up --- I'm definitely going to enjoy it tonight!
Still no serious bites on our house but I'm tryingto be patient! I saw several people stop and pick up flyers at the end of the driveway yesterday so hoping that they call the realtor and come to see it!
Just wanted to pop in for a minute and say Hello.. Better get busy and get everything done. Take care and have a good day!
Okay . . . I set up my page in the April Accountability Thread and made it a Sticky . . . how about the rest of you? Go take a look at Lynn's Introduction.
Lynn, I have watched you try to leave the 150s and am so happy to see you are now working on the 140s.
Freda and meowee, my condolances on the snow. We have finally reached spring. The bad winter we are overdue for has yet to arrive.
Freda, once I can walk without limping, I'll try a fifteen-minute walk or just one around the block. I felt so good on Tuesday -- wasn't pushing it at all. When I saw my PT guy on Thursday, he pushed me around and finally decided it must be my right hip that is bothering me. We've been working on core, but the hip must be different. (Hmmm, I have always had German Shepherds; think I may have contracted hip displasia? ) Anyway, I follow up with the doctor on Thursday.
Karen, it must be such a relief finally to be able to see your grandson. Divorce is so hard on children, parents should really bend over backwards to keep them in touch with their relatives. On another note, I've been told the housing market is beginning to turn around. Good luck on getting a good price.
Right now, I am pleased with my weight loss. Started fasting on Wedneday and Saturday, except for fiber, omega 3's, and coke w/Splenda. (The Splenda satisfies my sweet tooth.) So far, I've noticed I'm not hungry when I'm not eating. Unfortunately, when I do eat, hunger kicks in. Usually, I lose at the beginning of the month, then stall. Now, I am losing even at the end. I hope to be in the 160's before April.
Hi from Ohio,,,,,,we finally arrived and moved into our new condo Friday. It still seems very strange to finally be here but I guess after one night I can't expect it to feel like home yet.
Not going to get on the scales for a week....all we have done is eat out for 7 days...had our first home cooked meal tonight. Maybe all this unpacking will help lose some lbs.
Just wanted to ck in and let you all know we made it safe and soundl.

Hi Phyllis,
Welcome home to the Golden Girls & home to your new condo in Ohio.
