I've been taking extra gelatin and I've noticed that my hair doesn't seem to be falling out anymore. It was really bad when I was on Atkins years ago, but this time only a little bit of hair loss which I think was because I was already taking fish oil. Now I think the extra gelatin helped even more.
Dana, how do you take the gelatin? Is it in capsules or do you drink it?
Heard that 5000 mcg of Biotin works well to stop hair loss and promote growth. Bought Nature's Bounty, Hair, Skin & Nail Formula, Extra Strength, w/ 5000mcg Biotin. Bought at Walgreen's, well under $10. I started it a week ago or so.
I have also lost a significant amount of hair with 35 lbs. gone and so have two of my friends. This also happened when I did Atkins. I am taking Biotin and that seems to have slowed the loss down.
Thanks Ishbel, this is some good information. I have been taking biotin for a few months now and now am taking keratin and recently started collagen. I hate loosing my hair. I have Hashimoto disease (thyroid) and have experienced hair loss before and it has grown back so I am hopeful.
I think I will have a blood test to make sure my synthroid is at the right amount after a 65# weight loss.
I will keep everyone posted!

I'm going to start taking Biotin - your mixture sounds good Chloe222. I'll look for something similiar.
I'm concerned because for the past 2 weeks I've had a very itchy scalp. I haven't noticed significant hair loss, but can't help but wonder if this new 'scalp itchiness' is some sort of signal that hair loss is coming.
Hi, Update on my hair loss issue. I began IP November 2011 and began maintaining April 2012. I now have tons (TONS) of new growth all over! It's all about 1/4 - 1/2 inch long. YAH!!!
My hairdresser said I won't grow back "more" because we don't grow more hair follicles. She did say my hair may appear thicker because of the layering that will occur while it grows out!

Thank you for the 'bump' as I am facing this issue as well!
Hi, You're doing awesome with your loss!!! Keep it up!!!
Your hair loss will improve...eventually! I went through the same thing and wanted to know when to expect it to come back...I'm still happy with going through the hair loss considering the FAT I loss too!!!
I just wanted to comment on this. I went in for a haircut last week. As she was combing and pulling my hair up to cut layers, I had a great view of all of the regrowth I have. It's about 5 inches now. I knew I had lost a "ton" of hair during the last couple of months of IP, but I guess I didn't realize how much. Seeing how much of my hair is only about 5 inches long was almost unbelievable. I'm just so thankful it all came back.
Bump for 2elite....I posted the IP response and started taking the antioxy and omega 3 immediately after my coach get me the pamphlet. I never used Biotin as by the time that came up on the forum my hair loss had stopped.
I did post when I saw it coming back in (in this thread).
Mine stopped after a while and about 4 months of hitting maintenance my hair dresser said "hey, your hair is thicker".
You may have a combination of this diet and your thyroid? I never did have a bald spot but I had thin hair from PCOS and IP made it worse....:/.
Feel for ya, if you want to stop IP then please take the time to phase off properly.

Good luck!
Thanks so much! I appreciate this. :-) I don't want to stop as I love IP but I know I really need to focus on my total health. I'm halfway to goal and I'm loving how I look.
I had this problem, did quite a bit of research and there are no studies that high dose biotin causes adverse effects, even as much as 40-50,000 mcg daily, so I started 10,000 twice a day and my hair began to regrow and my once thin, peeling nails are now much stronger, too. There are a number of companies that make the 10,000 strength, Natrol is one, and you can get it at any drugstore, WalMart, Target, etc. Glad to her that regrowth has occurred with maintenance! I hate taking pills so the fewer the better once off IP for me!
I didn't realize how much hair I lost until it began to grow back once I was in maintenance. I had tons of spiky hairs all over! It was a lot that I lost and now it's filling back in. I'll never do P1 for a long period of time...I can't imagine what else it was doing to my body....
