Cheryl - I just read this post more closely and realized that is how my arm has been feeling since Sunday. My left shoulder is sore and a little crunchy when I rotate it, and my upper arm feels like there is a band wrapped around it. Do you know what you did to injure yours to cause this initially?I started out with some neck pain about two weeks ago, it got better and worse over time, neck is nothing but a twinge now but the shoulder and arm has really started to hurt since about Sunday... I'm thinking I must have done something to it while trying to protect the neck. Ick. Oddly, it felt great the rest of the night after beating on the punching bag on Monday, and while still sore since hasn't been any worse.

Not a lot of exercise for me in the last week. Worked out Fri & Sat, off on Sun. Kickboxing and some treadmill HIIT Monday, Tues had to drive to Athens and terminate someone so no exercise and a late work day. Planning to exercise tonight, provided I can keep the arm and shoulder safe.

Rabbit - hope your trip goes well.

Mel - two job offers, wow! Congrats! Mergers are often complex.

Pat - I have to say, I wouldn't want to go back out to the gym and would definitely try to make the at home work. I got day 1 & the UB day, did you ever post the LB day? What do you think of the new program so far?

Kim - I'm not a total Olympics junkie myself, but there are a lot of events I really enjoy. I've been streaming some today at work, actually.

Lydia - kids out of school so much must make it hard to get in the exercise. I'm snickering at 'interfering with my secret mom life' - picturing capes and costumes.

to anyone I missed!

Hello to my favourite people!

Sorry to be no-show lately but we spent Valentine's day trying to install a new toilet and we just could not get it right (for the tank to not leak). Oh well, it was fun, and there is nothing like spending quality time together, whether over a toilet or a bottle of champagne. LOL Not mention the fact that BF smartly put the tank lid on its short (rounded) side and it fell and split into three pieces (and that was a brand new toilet).

There was no workout on Sunday and Monday as we were going from one thing to another (Avatar, among other things) so I figured oh well, I will let it slide. Yesterday, I did cardio with dumbbells at home and tonight I am planning to hit the gym again.

Cheryl, congrats on the cert! Woohoo! BTW, SHAME on you for looking 15 when you are 40! I bet you get carded when you try to buy smokes (and thumbs up on your decision to quit. I actually can't believe that you smoked until now - I would have never suspected).

Not sure if I mentioned that but last week, I spent $2,500 on a new tankless water heater & its installation. Hot shower - what a bliss! The old one was going downhill very quickly and we have extremely hard water and I am not using water softener so the output from the old one was slowly decreasing and it was only a question of a few weeks til it would go down to its knees entirely. Of course, on Friday, my microwave died (I have to admit it was ancient - microwave combined with convection oven that cost me a pretty penny over 15 years ago when I bought it). So I had to get a new one and last night, my computer (at home) died. I am not sure if it only a video card at this point, I was not in the mood to take it apart (besides, I don't have another card to test it with handy), so for now, I can only check and post from work.

Umm, I showed The Most Gorgeous Abs In The World (aka Kim's) to BF and he demonstrated zero enthusiasm. He mumbled something about it "being too much". Ah, silly men! :-)

Alena - silly boys. So you love the tankless water heater? I used to sell them when I worked at THD and covet one.

So, can one stupid yoga fall cause permanent neck damage? I fell out of a pose, bakasana (crane) actually, and landed on the top of my head right before the current saga of neck/shoulder/upper arm pain. (Rolled forward on my arms, and landed crunch on my head before I could stop it.) My neck didn't hurt at the time, though the top of my head ached. The neck crick didn't start for about 8 hours... I've been googling, which I hate to do for my own medical questions, and it is talking about radiating upper arm pain for compressed vertebrae.... and rotator cuff damage... and all number of other scary things. I need to stop using Google Health & WedMD.

Oh Shannon, I just saw your most recent post. Gosh I hope you didn't injury yourself this way. Please have it checked out. What a scary predicament to fall out of a pose.

Alena: @Kaw's abs being too much. That's great! I'm still smiling over that one. You have a lot of replacements going on. Bummer. I hope it's not the beginning of a trend for you.

Mel: Awesome about the two job offers. Mergers are very stressful. Hang in there. OH, and yep. Arlington rocks! As soon as the weather breaks we have asphalt again. They even hit all our little parks so we can take the little people out on sleds. Unfortunately, most of the side streets and especially the cul de sacs of Columbus City will probably not see a snow plow in the same amount of time. The added problem with German Village are the cobblestone streets and well they are pretty narrow too. Major inconvenience for your daughter I'm sure.

Cheryl: How 'bout that...your fifteen again. :

Rabbit: Sending you lots of : for your business trip. Hope you return victorious!

Pat: Still perfecting the art of purchasing online...was thinking of you and how you do a lot of shopping online when I decided to order this dress. It actually fit JUST RIGHT with the size that was delivered. But JUST RIGHT is a little uncomfortable for me...so I decided to order a second size just for comparison. One of them is going back.

(I think this could be a thread all of its own, struggling with the mental image of being previously obese and continuing to use clothes to hide bumps and bulges that really are part of the way women are built...or What is appropriate for a woman in her forties to wear and what might be crossing the line. I think we have a forum for that though, Looking good, Feeling Great right?)

http://www.google.com/products?q=hor...ed=0CCIQrQQwAg

Even on the model it has a little pooch in the middle. I don't know, its not clingy it's just well...fitted. Gosh I wish DH was here to give it a thumbs up or "Lydia, get a reality check" comment. Anyway, it's a fun dress. It hits just above the knee and I'm throwing it in the suitcase. DH can see it in the hotel.

Lydia - I love that part... Thunderhead, Stratogale, Metaman, Dynaguy, Splashdown... all lost to the vanity of the cape. My cousin works for Pixar and worked on that film, and several others actually. Must be a cool job.

Do I go to a regular doctor for this kind of shoulder thing or do I need a specialist?

So much going on. Please look after yourselves.

Endurance event for me today. 7.5 hrs by bus, underground and on foot round 3 medical establishments across London. Ended up at A&E (ER?) at St Thomas's, just across the river from the Houses of Parliament. I knew it was le vrai Urban Trek when the H of P underpass was flooded.

But. I do not have TB. I do not have pneumonia. I have some chronic congestion in the lungs. I have antibiotics. All good.

And... I think this is interesting following our earlier discussion of looks. The doc took one look at me and said, 'You obviously don't smoke and you're generally in good shape.' All numbers (BP, O2, RHR) were good despite all the schlepping.

Thank heavens for our free National Health Service. A bit flaky round the edges but I've been treated properly a long way from home. And paid nothing.

to all. Keep at it. As some of us have found, you never know when you're going to have to dig deep into the health, fitness and stamina fund.

Ohhh. If it were me, I'd see my sports doc instead of my general prac. But my general prac dismissed a stress fracture as a pulled muscle so I'm a little biased.

Wasn't that GREAT MOVIE! It must be a wonderful job. I love ElastaGirl. They made her character so BELIEVABLE! This scene from the movie is forever etched upon my memory. Even "she" as if she were real has image issues:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ksw2XcKT-wM&NR=1

And this is ELASTAGIRL! sigh.

Oh Birch. You sound like you've had a terrible day. So much running around when you are sick enough to need antibiotics. Put your feet up with a hot mug of tea and then get some sleep.

By the way, how cool is it that your level of fitness was evident even though you are so obviously ill.

Shannon- Years and years ago I fell out of a yoga headstand. By the time I went to a doctor, I was a hunchback with constant arm pain. He was an internist and referred me to a chiropractor. At the time, I thought that chiropractors were for nut cases. I finally went after I could no longer dress myself. About 8 sessions fixed me up fine. Go see a doc!

Today I gave notice at work, and am taking a different position internally. I'm moving from Wealth Management to Ultra High Net Worth- so I guess it's a step up the ladder It really should be a great job, but the downside is a much longer commute into center city Philadelphia (I live way out in the burbs). Luckily, I'm close to a train station and the regional rail lines are reliable and there is an express just the times that I need it. I actually rode the train into the city this morning before accepting the job at the time I would need to do it, to make sure it was all doable. I will just have to make food and workouts work. There is a 6:15 cross fit class that I can get to- so it will be a longer day, but a much better work environment.

Cross fit today really kicked me:
8,6,4,4 dead lift for max
WOD:
row 750 meters
21 dead lifts at 135 pds.
3 ring dips (I have to modify)
18 dead lifts
6 ring dips
15 dead lifts
9 ring dips
.
.
.
3 dead lifts
21 ring dips
row 750 meters.

40 medicine ball sit ups.

That last row was slooooooooooow.

That would be 84 dead lifts at 135 pounds...that's a lot of weight!

I'm beat.

Alena- I thought dh and I were the only people who had quality time installing toilets and replumbing or rewiring! Your post made me laugh. Sorry about the tank lid!

Lydia- I'm sure your dh has the sense to give you the thumbs up on ANY dress! Have fun When do you leave?

Falling asleep...

wow, such a busy thread!

Alena - love your post. makes me realise that NO, I'm not the only one installing toilets, repairing computers, getting to & from airports & in general just keeping up with the 2nd law (everything goes to chaos unless you put in work)

Shannon - how's the neck? You surely can get arm & shoulder issues from a neck thing. Look at RSI...same thin, moving from wrist to elbow to shoulder, neck & down the other side. Did you scedule a doctor yet?

Lydia - love the movie fragments! I had not seen them before

mel - congrats on the new job!

Birch - ouch! That cannot have been the fun London sightseeing you had in mind! Was the boy with you? There certainly is something to be said for national healthcare, and I'm glad you got antibiotics. If it is not pneumonia and you've got congested lungs, what is inflamed then? Take care! (and congrats on the health compliment!)

I'm off work today, got to pack my bag and do some last minute things before I leave tomorrow very early. I'm flying to california on a business trip and I'm nervous. I always am, and it always turns out all right the moment I'm on the train to the airport. Strange. it's just that I am soo anxious to not forget important details. I really should male a checklist or something.

Have a great day all,
Rabbit

Wow, busy thread. And I'm up too late, having watched the Olympics, loved loved loved the snowboarding. Shawn White rockse! Women's downhill was good too, but so many gals falling...

I did go back to the gym with DH yesterday. And this morning I went - again - to zumba. Went much better when my legs weren't sore. I was just my usual klutzy self. TOmorrow I'll do the full body workout, and then take all my rest days, and do a cardio on Sunday. That means I start right out again on Monday, but it also means I can go guiltless to my quilt retreat. Yay!

Shannon - here's the lower body workout:

Perform a dynamic warm-up, choosing 3-5 lower body exercises 1-2 per exercise
Numbers are : Sets Reps Rest
(1) Barbell front squat (treat as quasi warm-up) 3-4 5-8 1:00
(2a) Barbell back squat 4 9 :30
(2b) Alternating dumbbell rear lunge 4 7 1:30
(3a) Trap bar or dumbbell deadlift 3 10 :10
(3b) Alternating lateral squat 3 6 :10
(3c) Alternating single-leg hip bridge 3 AMRAP :40

Congrats on the new job, Mel! Glad you could make it work

Rabbit - have a good trip.

Silver - hope the antibiotics have kicked in and you're on the road to recovery.

to everyone else. I must go to bed....

There's some really awesome workouts here! Mel, that is KILLER crossfit eh?

"Ring dips"... sounds so girly/pansy. The rings were crafted by the devil himself. I still can't do one.

I'm debating between doing a full kettlebell workout or doing technique Olympic lifts. Maybe a Crossfit workout too. Who knows, so many possibilities I've been slack with posting but my workouts have been consistent. It's been difficult now that I'm in my 3rd trimester. Lots of modifications.

I went to Seattle this weekend, a lot of fun. Got engaged Of course, we are already practically married and I don't think we'll do anything more than a backyard summer BBQ.

Ok, I'm inspired.
